Folk festivals should not be confused with the gatherings of folk revival musicians or the traditional indigenous celebrations of shared values. Folklorists and administrators create folk (or folklife) festivals in order to demonstrate and nuture folkways. These events represent attempts to demonstrate traditional culture to the public in formats other than scholarly articles. They generally include traditional music, crafts and food in a performance and/or workshop format, aiming for a down-home spirit between performers and patrons. We describe these festivals variously as created, contrived, induced, constructed, synthetic, or simulated.

Abstract:
The scientific concept of Professor V.G. Rudelev, which has influenced the formation of problematics connected with the study of traditional folk culture language in the region, and was further developed in the researches of his students, making up a significant part of the scientific heritage of the Tambov School of Linguistics, is analyzed. The main focus of the researchers is on the development of the ideas of V.G. Rudelev's Candidate's dissertation, devoted to the study and description of the ethnographic vocabulary of the people's dwelling on the Ryazan land (pub-lished in Ryazan in 1995). V.G. Rudelev proposed a complex approach to the description of lexi-cal material, which allows to consider the material not as isolated lexical facts, but as a complex system, in which all words related to the lexical composition of each patois are simultaneously op-posed to each other and interconnected with each other. We establish that V.G. Rudelev’s dissertation had an innovative character and has not lost its methodological significance for modern science and is conceptually important for the study of Tambov dialects. In fact, representing a new stage in the development of philology, the work of V.G. Rudelev became a methodological basis for the collection, description and interpretation of the local tradition and contributed to the successful work of the Tambov scientific school representatives in collaborative programs at the all-Russian level.

Abstract:
In Hungary, the decline of traditional peasant culture and its heritage has prompted urban revivals, leading to the acceptance of traditional Hungarian folk singing as a performing arts genre. Drawing from a series of in-depth interviews, this study shows how contemporary Hungarian folk singers navigate (define, learn, police) different forms of authenticity within the field of folk music. While we find that objectified authenticity – heritagized classification systems – is the dominant form of symbolic capital, the broader symbolic economy of authenticity is complicated by competing definitions of folk singing as, variously, culture, heritage, and art. Third-person authenticity is more highly regarded, but it is more difficult for contemporary urban folk singers to achieve because they were not socialized in peasant communities. Therefore, they use objectified authenticity such as ‘original recordings’ as a proxy for learning about living folk culture. Although objectified authenticity constrains the agency of artistic expression, it affords discriminatory creativity (choosing one’s own repertoire) and rationalized creativity (adapting traditional material to external values and contexts).

Abstract:
Eastern (including Kazakh-Turkic) philosophy differs from classical Western philosophy in that it does not make a major distinction between the universals of culture and philosophy. For Kazakh traditional society, philosophizing is characteristic of a non-abstract, extremely generalized, figuratively complete form of reflection. For the most part, philosophical categories and concepts are reflected and enshrined in artistic and religious texts. Therefore, the study of Kazakh philosophers should be conducted in a broader socio-cultural context. A holistic conceptual understanding of the worldview universals of a nomadic civilization is one of the most urgent tasks of modern Kazakh philosophy. To accomplish this task, we have at our disposal a huge amount of material from the monuments of the Orkhon-Yenisei runic writings, to priceless samples of oral folk art in the form of folk legends, heroic epics, proverbs, and sayings, the poetical and musical heritage of the zhyrau-akyns, etc. Traditional Kazakh culture is the quintessence and reflection of a special nomadic type of economy. Nomadic civilization is an example of a favorable coexistence between nature and man. An eco-friendly lifestyle was a reflection of the internal attitude towards maintaining harmony between man and nature. At the same time, the Kazakhs managed to create a special socionormative culture based on deep spiritual traditions that widely regulated social relations. The genus origin was the fundamental principle of the individual's self-identification and linked him by inseparable blood ties with the community and the territory of residence as a continuation of his social and natural existence. A nomadic collective was a hierarchically designed social organism, where human life was strictly regulated. Every action in everyday life had not only practical, but also spiritual meaning, value. Sacralization of actions took place through the ritual. Almost every single thing in everyday life was endowed with symbolic meaning. Having mastered the methods, principles and categorical apparatus of Western philosophy, modern Kazakh philosophy has become capable of deeply analyzing and actualizing the past examples of the spiritual culture of the Kazakh people. At the same time, it opens itself up to other cultures and thus new opportunities for intercivilizational dialogue appear.

This study, based on archival, literary, and field data collected by the author, discusses the role of the snake, the frog, and the mouse in the Buryat mythology, folklore, and ritual. Using the respective lexemes, categories of these animals in the folk ethnozoological classification are described and are shown to be overlapping. The meaning of the principal zoonyms––mogoy, khorkhoy, bakha, and khulgana––is assessed. In traditional beliefs, “reptiles”, “amphibians”, and “murines” have a mostly negative connotation. The snake, however, is ambivalent but mostly positive. Chthonic animals in general are ambivalent, like the elements such as water and earth. Their symbolism is related to the ideas of vital energy, fertility, wealth, but also to illness and death.

Abstract:
Traditional folk architecture on Tara mountain, generally speaking, belongs to cultural areal of traditional building of dinarska brvnara type, i.e. building made of wood. In direct connection with Zlatibor mountain, where we can find some of the best examples of vernacular architecture, traditional building on Tara mountain does not show any specificity but at the same time does not lag behind comparison with other regions with the same type of building. In this paper we are presenting results of ethnographic field research in traditional folk construction of economic buildings. The field research was accomplished during years 2015 and 2016 in villages on Tara. The emphasis is on the economic buildings which are directly derived from structure of economic activities of rural population and we are taking into account both traditional and contemporary economic buildings. In this paper basic forms of organisation of space in households are presented as well. Preliminary analysis of the economic buildings on Tara shows that they clearly follow needs of traditional economy, needs which are determined with the culture of social organization as well as with the structure of economic organization. Construction and architecture of economic buildings also points out that they are on high utilitarian level and that they can represent relations between some economic activities.

Abstract:
Because studies of traditional regional creations neglected the main role and value of human, ignored daily goods for the service of ordinary people and the relevance with the nonmaterial culture resources such as folk literature, folk rituals, folk beliefs, regional design has turned into the imitating, patching and borrowing from traditional forms, styles and prototypes, and ultimately become an over-elaborated decorative display, and gone further and further away from the essence of life. Abstract:
Folk dance is an integral part of modern choreographic culture. At the same time, the definition of its place and role in modern artistic realities is complicated not only by understanding the boundaries of this phenomenon, but also by contradictory approaches to understanding its essence. Folk dance is also understood as folk dance, or vice versa, later layers of dance culture, not associated with ritual actions. Also, some researchers put forward the thesis that folk dance is only an area for – traditional culture, as well as the phenomena of everyday dance culture that are entrenched in the folk tradition. Quite often in modern choreographic culture, folk dance is likened to the concept of «folk stage dance» – a kind of specific model of folk dance culture, created and embodied in the conditions of the stage space. And this, as will be discussed in this article, is not legitimate. All these processes are not accidental. To a certain extent, they demonstrate the difficulties in the formation of the very phenomena related to folk dance: from traditional forms to stage versions of its representation. This article defines the boundaries of the definition of «folk dance», gives its periodization in accordance with the cultural and historical periods, and also highlights the main sources of its formation. Particular attention is paid to identifying the specific features of folk dance, among which the most vividly highlighted: ritual and ceremonial basis, syncretism, synthetism, special mentality, anonymity, heterofunctional character, imitativeness, improvisational character, tradition and rules of performance, the relationship with the musical and song basis, its collective representation. The article outlines a culturological approach to further understanding the phenomenon of «folk dance» in scientific discourse.

Abstract:
The given article touches upon reasonability and perspectivity of the development of intonation approach to the mastering of learning material at folk solfeggio lessons. As is known folk-oriented musical education has a long history in Russia. Meanwhile song folklore has always been an integral part of national and world music culture. During the historical revolution two trends in national ethnomusicology have developed. The first one is studied as a consistent logical system while the second one is connected with the detection of unique features of Russian folk music in different regions. The two main trends can be noted in the basic approaches to the mastering of folk singing and they are designated as authentic and scenic. Within the frameworks of the authentic trend there are two independent trends specific for folk singing. The first one implies the mastering of folk singing without in-depth study of one or several regional trends and the second one is aimed at studying of any specific folk-song tradition by students. The conducted analysis gives ground to extract two basic trends that have developed in musical education pedagogy where the first one takes folk-song examples as solfeggio materials and the second one studies folk songs as independent artistic value in folk-song material rendering. Minding the fact that the main goal of folk solfeggio is to develop ethnical hearing and ethnical intonation, learning material should mind different approaches to its mastering. So the learning material aimed at mastering of Russian song material within the scenic trend should include song examples mainly as invariants while for the authentic one there should mainly be the examples with a variative component.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the potential applications of eco-features in Vietnamese traditional folk houses to contemporary high-rise housing. One of the main characteristics of traditional folk houses is that they are designed with a deep understanding of and respect for nature. This type of housing also expresses the way of life of its users, having evolved over generations while adapting to their needs, culture, and environment. Whereas the traditional Vietnamese houses can be an important source in the creation of a Vietnamese architectural identity, the design-with-nature approach and its unique characteristics are, however, scarcely found in the contemporary high-rise housing in Vietnam. The objective of this research is to investigate the potential applications of eco-features in Vietnamese traditional folk houses to contemporary high-rise urban housing. Initially, this study examines the unique spatial characteristics of the traditional folk houses typical in northern Vietnam. In particular, four houses at the Duong Lam Village in northern Vietnam are reviewed. Some of the ecological design elements are extracted from the spatial composition of the typical Vietnamese folk houses in relation to the local climate conditions and the Vietnamese lifestyle (vernacular culture). Finally, this paper attempts to develop new housing models in urban Vietnam, employing the ecological elements learned from the preceding assessment.
