In this way data from several test temperatures are combined to a single master curve that can be used to assess rupture strengths at long times. Recently, there is much focus on machine learning techniques (neural networks, NNs). Both types of procedures can generate accurate results, but a detailed analysis is required. The delicate and tacky nature of these chemistries may not be fit for every application and end users often seek alternatives that are more durable. Acrylic polymer films have been sought as a suitable replacement, providing a dry-to-touch alternative that offers ease of handling with acceptable corrosion protection. These types of coatings are already used in direct-to-metal protection applications and in many cases provide semi-permanent corrosion protection. T

Abstract Seamless oil country tubular goods (OCTG) with defined chemistry and toughness, e.g. API 5CT C110, are utilized as production casing in sour wells globally. These grades must withstand high pressures and mild sour conditions to maintain the integrity of the well and, as such, should resist both sulfide stress crack (SSC) initiation and potential propagation from defects in service. A laboratory study was conducted to assess the tendency of crack propagation from two defined types of defects, electro-discharge machined (EDM) notches and fatigue cracks, simulating potential as-delivered

Abstract High Entropy Alloys and the related concepts of Compositionally Complex Alloys or Multi-principal Element Alloys are currently under strong academic and commercial investigation due to their potential to offer unique properties compared to traditional single principal element alloys. A new HEA with very high corrosion resistance was developed, with the multiprincipal elements alloyed in a non equiatomic concept and with the novel introduction of nitrogen as interstitial component. The selection of the multiprincipal elements was made considering the “cocktail effect“ criterion, leadin

Abstract Biodiesel production in Brazil is expected to increase significantly over the coming years as there is a government plan to increase the percentage of biodiesel in diesel. With the new Brazilian energy matrix, it becomes increasingly necessary to know the behavior of metallic materials used in transport and storage systems of new fuels, in particular, of biodiesel. The corrosivity of traditional fuels against the structural metallic materials is well known both in the pipeline and storage tank systems, which still does not occur with biodiesel. In this study, the corrosivity of biodie

The aim of this study was to provide hydro-dynamic force coefficients applicable for the determination of forces on pipelines resting on the sea bed when exposed to wave and current flows. This has been achieved through an extensive model test program in which the parameters important for the phenomena have been investigated within wide ranges for a number of flow conditions including irregular waves. The results of the more than 1,000 individual tests have been presented in the form of non-dimensional coefficients determined from three distinctly different types of analysis. These coefficient

Traditional indicator methods use visual examination to identify mineral grains in the 250 to 2000 µm fraction of till heavy-mineral concentrates (HMC). This study tests automated mineralogical methods using scanning electron microscopy to identify indicator minerals in the fine (<250 µm) HMC fraction of till. Automated mineralogy of polished grains from the fine HMC enables rapid data collection (10 000-300 000 grains/sample). Samples collected near two deposits were used to test t

Abstract:
Many natural gas storage wells suffer damage during normal storage operations. Storage operators spend upwards of $100 million per year recovering lost deliverability. Damage to casings in gas storage wells is largely the result of localized loss of metal from corrosion; however, other types of damage do occur. Individual corrosion pits can be found either on the inside or outside of the casing wall. Repair methods that are currently used for natural gas storage well casings include patches, plugs, liners, etc. While currently-used repair methods can be a cost-effective means of repairing dama

Abstract:
The deterioration of bridge decks is a problem typically associated with the corrosion of the reinforcing steel. This issue was partially controlled during the 1970s with the incorporation of the epoxy-coating protection system. However, research later demonstrated that the smooth surface resulting from the epoxy-coating application reduces most of the friction between the rebar and the surrounding concrete. Consequently, forces acting on the rib faces are reconfigured in such a way that the radial components increase, triggering the early development of cracks. To mitigate both the reduction
