Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The article presents a case study within the recent renaissance of folkloristic approaches to Old Norse-Icelandic religious history and saga literature. It undertakes a comparative analysis of medieval literary and recent local traditions about the burial of Ǫnundr Wooden-Foot, who was the great-grandfather of Grettir the Strong and an important character in the introductory chapters of Grettis saga. First, the article lays out the different accounts of Ǫnundr’s burial in medieval literature. Second, it contrasts the literary accounts with a broad range of more recent local traditions. Furthermore, it brings the physical topography of Ǫnundr’s alleged burial site into the discussion. The article then uses this ensemble of data to problematise issues such as the relative importance of chronological vs. geographical distance between a narrative and its alleged object, throwing new light on the relevance of recent local traditions for understanding medieval saga accounts.

Abstract:
This study is about which opinion active teachers are having when it comes to integrate religious traditions and ceremonies in their teaching. The aim is to study the religious traditional ceremonies part and how they are being defined in the Swedish classrooms in primary school. Together with literature, research and the discussion in this study, I came up to a few conclusions of how religious ceremonies will be integrated and how it looks like in Swedish classrooms. In this study of literature and research overview, the literatures are intended to provide an insight about how the Swedish school system went from a Christian education to a school that was separate from the church. In the chapter called Literature and research overview the literatures are written by scientists and therefore this chapter is based on research. My research in this study contains several surveys based on interviews with four respondents. In the interviews, I used five questions based on the main issues of this study. The result shows that all respondents have a limited integration of religious ceremonies in their teaching, where Christianity has got a more central part educationally. One conclusion of this study is that it is possible to integrate religious traditions in the teaching if they can be justified.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
After making an observation that young people wish to maintain traditions, but they themselves do not wish to attend, lead to a curiosity to examine if traditions serve any purpose for the young people of today. The discrepancies between that the young people say that it is important to preserve traditions versus that themselves do not wish to participate leads us to believe that traditions fills some kind of function but the question is – What function is this? The purpose of this research is to find out what purpose traditions have for young people and also look for the answer to why young people refrain from participating in certain traditions. The results are built from answers from interviews with 36 young people (19 girls and 17 boys) in the ages of 17 – 19 years old. Theoretical frames that helps answer the questions in this paper are represented by theories from Anthony Giddens, Pierre Bourdieu, Émile Durkheim and Erving Goffman. The results shows that traditions fills the following function, - maintaining social relationships and connections at different times and in different contexts, - contributing to interaction and connectedness, - legitimately be allowed to be family-oriented, - opportunity to provide a desirable appearance and a desired identity. The results also shows that traditions have a function to exclude when a person is not included in a social context The results show that choosing to refrain from participating has to do with that we live in a post–traditional society that opens up opportunities to make choices. Our desire to keep traditions is based on our upbringing and in our habits

Abstract:
This paper concerns the subject traditions and celebrations in the Swedish school, but also how it is being handled in two separate schools. Religious traditions in school have been debated since Sweden has become more and more multi-cultural. This means that changes becomes relevant when the cultural and religious backgrounds with the students gets varying. We will in this paper look into how the chosen schools are handling education of religion and celebrations that carries Christian traditions. We will also see what the students know about religious celebrations concerning, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, which are combined, and are the ones which are most noticed during school year 4-6. December is a month of celebrations. Lucia, Advent and Christmas are celebrated but also Chanukah and Bajram, which not always is celebrated in December. Lucia has a large place in many schools andstudents are participating. We want to see how many of the students who actually know what they are celebrating in the schools we examined.

Abstract:
In our society technology is becorning increasingly complex. Technological systems are now part of our evetyday lives. To what extent is this reflected in the Technology subject? This dissertation concerns education and has the aim of investigating how technological systems are treated in the Swedish school system. The overarching question is: How has the Swedish compulsory school dealt with the pedagogical challenge of det'eloping miject content about technological systems? To answer this question, the discourse of school talk on technological systems across three different school arenas has been the focus of the study so that pedagogical challenges and historicallayers relating to the discourse can be outlined. The three school arenas are the formulation, mediation, and realisation arena. They mainly encompass national curriculae, text books and teachers work, respectively, from 1980 to 2009. On the realisation arena an interactive method has been used where the researcher collaborated with a team of teachers in a lower secondary school for two years. The results are presented in two ways. First, a set of offered companion meamngs found in the expressions on the arenas are presented. The compamon meamngs emanate from three kinds of rules regolating the discourse: educational focus, system languages and curriculum emphases. Second, each arena is discussed in detail. These discussions were arrived at by feeding the categories of compamon meamngs back into the analysis process as a tool to clarify themes, orders of discourse and changes over time. On the arenas subject content relating to technological systems has successive ly strengthened its position and can be found on several curricular levels. This shift is made possible by new descriptions of technology as a distinct field of knowledge, thus affecting the view of the school subject Technology. In a Swedish context this meant dissociation from the natural sciences. Two hegemonic discourses that make the pedagogical challenge to introduce technological systems more difficult have also been found: the hegemony of the artefact and the hegemony of science. The first relates to the subject's internal interest for small products and components. The second is based on a scientific precedence where Technology is used as an arena for the illustration of scientific laws and rules. Both hegemonies have the effect of directing the educational focus away from the systernic issues around the technology at hand. The search for answers is turned inwards and downwards in the systemic hierarchy. On the other hand, production systems and controi technology have established a position in the discourse. An emerging political and ethical theme concerned with the relation between citizenship, sustainable development and technology has forwarded a systems approach.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to examine what experience supportstaff have about the work with ensuring supportusers self-determination and participation. The purpose is broken down into two main questions, firstly how supportstaff work with self-determination and participation. Secondly what kind of experience the supportstaff have about opportunities and difficulties in the work with ensuring self-determination and participation. We used a qualitative method and gathered data by using thematically open issues interviews. We interviewed seven supportstaff in different parts of Sweden. We used two different theoretical approaches, empowerment and Michael Lipsky’s theory about street-level bureaucracy. All informants experienced both difficulties and opportunities in the work to ensure the supportusers self-determination and participation. The informants described how the difficulties can consist of both organizational structures but also in the staff's own approach towards the supportusers. Different working methods, competence and also relationships that are based on trust emerged from the result as opportunities for ensuring the supportusers self-determination and participation. The results of this study is in alignment with previous research, but the study includes new elements for future research.

Abstract:
The advertising of Romanian brands has known a sterling `invasion` of traditional themed messages. One of the most prominent adverts belongs to the `Undelemn de la Bunica` brand, which took off in the 1998. The creators of this brand were the ones that set a trend of using traditional themed messages in the field of advertising. The communist era has forced a fake, populist traditional image to justify its political discourse. In a society fed up with such traditional populist messages, a new brand that uses the idyllic `Bunica (Grandma)` appears. `Undelemn de la Bunica` brings forth the childhood existence of the grandmother that makes food better than `mama makes it`, using only natural and trustworthy ingredients Even though the basic message was not clearly traditional, the `bunica` was closely linked to the world of the typical Romanian grandmother, with ties to traditions, rituals and, most importantly, to the rural world. `Bunica` has started a race of `authenticity` in publicity, race in which other brands like `Boromir`, `Pate Ardealul`, `Napolact`, `Covalact` and so on, entered. From the years of 2000, the national brands’ marketing messages have begun to introduce new and more complex traditional symbols in their communication strategies. Good examples of such elements are the usage of the collocations `tradițional (traditional)`, `ca la țară (from the rural village)’, of images or symbols from the local folklore ornamentics, of brand characters which `conjure` tradition. The main purpose of this paper is to identify the relations between traditional cultural capital elements, the brand’s communication efforts and the receiving public. For the research conducted in this article, two local dairy brands, with tradition in Romania, have been chosen. The data analyzed is collected from secondary sources.

Abstract:
Puppetry is the oldest form of the virtual reality and has a strong tradition as a theatrical art. The aim of this research project is to create digital puppeteering system which translates gestural acts into live and expressive control of virtual 3D models including in real-time 3D sound. I will devise a model of practice that extends our understanding and notion of the digital puppet. It seeks to establish new practical and conceptual relations between the puppet and new technologies in the framework of puppet theatre. The practical aim is to focus on the special spirit of animated 3D models and silhouettes and to contribute to cultural preservation and fixing of the tradition(s) of puppet theatre. This project will explore the potential of puppetry as a musical expressive medium by new media, including the sensor, 3D sound system, digital projection, and 3D simulation. The conceptual aim of the project is to integrate traditional and new forms of puppetry through different interfaces that will advance traditional forms of cultural expressions. This project focuses on analogies and differences between different puppet theatre traditions. A key aspect is the relationship between the Western puppetry and the Eastern puppetry traditions, and the impact of the resulting cross- cultural dialogue in dramatic performances with figures. In seeking to identify the potential effects of digital puppetry, I will obtain a new vocabulary for gestural musical performance and can develop guidelines that can be used for future creative theatrical practice in the field of digital puppetry. The aim of my research project is to design an interactive digital puppetry system which is sensitive to gestural acts of puppeteers and enriches the performances as a musical expressive medium on its own right. Such a system will serve creative possibilities using digitalisations of old forms by puppet restoration and preserving its instructions. Through analyses of European and Japanese traditional puppet theatres, I will achieve a new cross-cultural form of puppetry. Thus, I investigate how acts and music of puppetry can be restored from not only actual traditional. puppet theatre, but also archives and documents, then performed and remediated with digital performance technology. Furthermore, my investigation includes in transitioning layers between old and new media — objects of puppet theatre and digital simulation – alternative action and transformation. I believe that the digital re-presentation of traditional puppetry is one of the most efficient and effective ways to impart to later generations and also to revitalise the arts of puppet theatres. An orientation toward new medias will enable me to explore 'tradition' and the puppet as a technological media object. Through my digital practice and an encounter with old, lost, forgotten puppet theatre, I set out to create something new.
