Abstract:
A rapid growth in the population and economic growth has resulted in an increasing number of vehicles on road every year. Traffic congestion is a big problem in every metropolitan city. To reach their destination faster and to avoid traffic, some people are violating traffic rules and regulations. Violation of traffic rules puts everyone in danger. Maintaining traffic rules manually has become difficult over the time due to the rapid increase in the population. This alarming situation has be taken care of at the earliest. To overcome this, we need a real-time violation detection system to help

One of the major causes to increase traffic accidents is traffic violations from drivers that occur on road networks. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of traffic violation and demographic characteristics of the drivers on the traffic safety in Sulaymaniyah urban street networks. A questionnaire survey approach was used to collect data from 244 drivers; 143 male and 101 female drivers. The questionnaire form included ten questions; six of the questions were related to the traffic violations types and four of them were related to the demographic parameters of the drivers.

Red-light violations of pedestrians crossing at signal intersections is one of the key factors in pedestrian traffic accidents. Even though there are various studies on pedestrian behavior and pedestrian traffic conflicts, few focus on the risk of different crosswalks for the violating pedestrian group. Due to the spatio-temporal nature of violation risk, this study proposes a geographical and temporal risk evaluation method for pedestrian red-light violations, which combines actual survey and video acquisition. The results of the random parameter multinomial logit model indicate that various factors potentially affect the severity of traffic violations. The key findings include the following: (1) female drivers are more likely to commit minor violations; (2) drivers from an area with a longer travel time to work and a higher proportion of driving to work are mor

The present study investigated the relationship between religiousness, conservatism and traffic behaviour. It was shown that, intrinsic religious orientation significantly predicted ordinary violations of both the drivers and the pedestrians. Religiousness seems to have a positive effect by orienting the individual to obey the rules and to refrain from risk taking behaviour. Moreover, components of conservatism (conservation of values and resistance to change) were found to affect the aggressive violations and the positive behaviours of the drivers. While conservation of values decreased aggre

Road safety is a serious problem in many countries and affects the lives of many people. Improving road safety starts with the drivers, and the best way to make them change their habits is to offer incentives for better, safer driving styles. This project aims to make that possible by offering a means to calculate a quantified indicator of how safe a driver's habits are. This is done by developing an on-board, visual road-sign recognition system that can be coupled with a vehicle tracking system to determine how often a driver violates the rules of the road.
