Abstract:
Abstract Invasive species have devastating economic and ecological impacts worldwide, but proactive monitoring programs are rare on the global stage. By definition, tramp ants are associated with disturbance and human-mediated dispersal, making them especially concerning invasive threats. A proactive—rather than reactive—approach to monitoring for, preventing, and managing invasive species depends on taxonomic preparedness, which enables rapid and accurate identification. Emerging tools and technologies, including genomic barcoding and interactive online keys, can aid in species delimitation and diagnosis. However, resolving tramp species’ identities remains the fundamental first step in invasive species management because diagnostic tools cannot be developed and disseminated until species names are stable. Diagnosis of morphologically difficult species requires basic knowledge of species boundaries, biogeography, and phylogenetic relationships. This review comprehensively synthesizes information available for 15 known and five potential tramp ant species in Nylanderia (Emery) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae): a globally distributed genus of over 130 described species, many of which are only diagnosable by subtle morphological characters. Nylanderia records were drawn from published literature, specimen databases, and museum collections to compile known distributions, biology, natural history, and taxonomy for each species. We review existing resources for visualizing known geographic ranges and high-resolution images of ants globally and encourage the use of these types of tools in support of invasive species diagnosis and distribution tracking. Finally, we discuss how taxonomic and life history information can be used synergistically with genomic and digital technology to develop tools for identification of these, and other emerging invasive insect species.

Abstract:
The present paper provides an updated checklist of the ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) of Pakistan. These include seven of the 21 known extant subfamilies with 101 valid ant species in 33 genera. Five species are reported for the first time from Pakistan: Cardiocondyla wroughtonii Forel, 1890; Crematogaster biroi Mayr, 1897; Ooceraea biroi (Forel, 1907); Pseudoneoponera rufipes Jerdon, 1851 and Strumigenys godeffroyi Mayr, 1866. Images to scientifically validate new faunal records from Pakistan and facilitate prompt identification are provided. Among the newly recorded species, three species viz., C. wroughtonii; O. biroi and S. godeffroyi are considered as tramp species having the cosmopolitan distribution. Notes about type localities, depositories and distribution in Pakistan are provided to each species record. The list provides a synthesis of the regional taxonomical work carried out until now and will serve as a baseline survey for future studies.

Abstract:
Ants are a highly diverse group that not only are often strongly associated with certain habitat types, but also can be found on carcasses and, therefore, in crime scenes. In the present study, a survey of the necrophilous ants in Taiwan was conducted and a preliminary species checklist was provided for the first time. The aim of this study was primarily to offer information on Taiwanese ant species of forensic significance. A total of 50 ant species/morphospecies from 26 genera were collected from large scale regions in Taiwan using combination pig liver bait and pitfall traps, bringing the Taiwanese necrophilous ants up to 55 species from 33 genera within the known Taiwanese ant fauna of 288 species from 71 genera. Seventeen species found in this study are tramp or potentially exotic species, which often dominated the baits. Use of pitfall traps increased the diversity of ants collected relative to hand-collecting from the carcass, adding useful data. These necrophilous ants may play important roles in carcass decomposition and can be useful in reconstructing crime scenes, as certain ants are more common in certain habitat types. This checklist and accompanying habitat information of these ants is likely the first such comprehensive data in Taiwan applying ants to the field of forensic entomology.

Abstract:
Based on a global compilation of data on ant associates of 523 Lycaenidae species, a synthesis is attempted as to which ants participate in these interactions. Ants from 63 genera have thus far been observed as visitors of facultative myrmecophiles or as hosts of obligate myrmecophiles among the Lycaenidae. Over 98% of records come from nectarivorous and trophobiotic ants in just three subfamilies, viz. Formicinae, Myrmicinae and Dolichoderinae, with the genera Crematogaster and Camponotus occupying the top ranks. Accumulation analysis suggests that rather few ant genera remain to be added to the list of associates. The representation of ant genera as attendants of lycaenid immatures is related to their global species richness, but with some notable exceptions. Ants that form ecologically dominant, large, long-lived colonies are over-represented as hosts of obligate myrmecophiles. The taxonomic diversity of lycaenid-ant associations is highest in the Oriental and Australian region, and lowest in the Neotropical and Afrotropical region. Among tropical African lycaenids, this is due to two butterfly lineages (genus Lepidochrysops and subfamily Aphnaeinae) that have massively radiated in the Neogene, but mostly maintaining their general affiliations with either Camponotus or Crematogaster ants, respectively. Many tropical and subtropical lycaenids nowadays form associations also with invasive alien tramp ants, giving rise to novel mutualistic interactions.

Abstract:
Syllophopsis sechellensis (Emery) (formerly Monomorium sechellense) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) is a small, inconspicuous ant species native to the Old-World tropics. Syllophopsis sechellensis is widespread in Asia and Australia, and on islands the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans. In the New World, all published records come from West Indian islands. Here, I report the first records of S. sechellensis from North America: from four sites in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, Florida, more than 1500 km from the closest records in the West Indies. The ants of Florida have been well-studied in the past, so S. sechellensis appears to be a recent arrival.

Monomorium floricola is a cosmopolitan urban, and a worldwide pest in homes and hospitals. Few studies were directed with this species. With the objective of adding useful information for pest control programs, the present study aimed at analyzing: the interaction of these ants with other species when foraging for food; morphology of immature and adult reproductive forms; possible causes for the appearance of anomalous reproductive forms; internal anatomy of the digestive system; the tolerance of workers to different temperatures; different traits affecting the fecundity of virgin queens. Workers proved more defensive when foraging in enemy or neutral territory, and more aggressive when at their own territory. Their reaction towards alien ants was dependent upon their species. Sugary substances were more attractive than fatty foods, and workers spent more time collecting more concentrated sugary liquids, and give preference to foods at higher amounts and nearer to the nest entrance. Larvae of M. floricola were different from other Monomorium species by their greater diversity of types of body hairs, and by their number of mouthpart sensilla. Reproductive adults were described in richness of details, as we needed parameters to detect the anomalous forms. The appearance of anomalous forms is apparently not caused by temperature variations or by the presence of symbiotic bacteria. The digestive system of adults of M. floricola and M. pharaonis were unique, e.g. by their having spines in the crop and fixed number of Malpighian tubules and rectal pads among specimens of different castes and ages. Workers of M. floricola were tolerant to cold temperatures, but not to high temperatures, in comparison with tested species M. pharaonis and T. bicarinatum. Abstract:
Tramp ants have been scientific recognized due to the investigations conducted since 1970 when pathogens were for the first time encountered in ant samples collected from hospital environments. The surveys conducted since then state the presence of important microorganisms such as Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Klebsiella and Enterobacter. However, very little knowledge has been produced in regards to food preparation areas. Tramp ants have been frequently detected in houses, food preparation areas as well as in industrial and commercial restaurants and are considered as one of the most important pests nowadays. The present survey investigated the food industry important pathogens found in tramp species that were collected from industrial restaurants. The samples were obtained with agar blood plaque baits and were later incubated in several culture means: Baird Parker for Staphylococcus, Bismut Sulfit for Salmonella and MacKonkey for enterobacteria. The results show the presence of S. aureus and enterobacteria in the ant samples collected from the industrial restaurant environment in São Paulo, Brazil. These results indicate the tramp ants can be important mechanical vectors of relevant pathogens for the food industry.

Having as a starting point the trace as text, this dissertation presents, as its main objective, to bring about the social plot of the 1950s in the city of Rio de Janeiro as the federal capital, in the light of the humoristic representation of Carlos Estevão in O Cruzeiro. Through the imagetic humor of one of the most popular and representative artists of the biggest magazine in terms of circulation in that decade, the aim was to visualize experiences and ruptures in the established system, located in the structure generated inside a society which lay in an apparent territory of calmness and in a dream of modernity , projecting a hegemonic speech, which at the same time, alienated the multiple life experiences of the several social subjects inserted in the complexes of their daily lives. Conceiving culture as a polyphonic instance, in the view of Bakhtin s theoretical and methodological statements, this research sought to favor the emergence of the plural voices present in the artist s flow of imagetic plots, which appeared in Estevão s various humor series, as it contemplated and intertextuality of sources. Facing this problem, the focus was to give priority to the analysis of the imagetic production located into the city s routine, seeking to capture the various groups dynamics, resulting in the emergence of the silenced and invisible individuals, also exposing the existence of conflicts and social tensions, which underlie the social plots in the context of transformation into a cosmopolitan and urban society. Following these aspects, the problematization of the series related to the emergence of a middle class consumption society seeking to socially ascend, which would allow people a criticism towards the modernization speech and would reveal the deep distance between real life and the ideal country projected as a target. In this view, opposing Carlos Estevão de Sousa s imagetic humoristic narrative to that modernity speech, represented the confrontation related to the built memory of the period as well as the delimitation of his trace and plot critical potentiality. The broadness of the sources analyses present in o Diário da Noite and in O Jornal favored the establishment of the humor representation about the country, the nation and the people as well, completing a picture of problematizations about the historically established memory in the period, in the same manner as it enabled the visibility of the resistance and compliance of the various individuals and social groups

Abstract: Mário de Andrade was the first director of the Culture Department em São Paulo (1935-1938) and projected the Infancy Parks in the city. Both themes are key elements for the analysis in which the child body's education occurred. The dialog between science and art, at the Parks, opens the possibility for different speeches and practices. The body's education, in this case, is the education that happens in the place occupied by the men, being it at school, on the streets and also at the Infancy Parks. Each period marks the bodies in many ways. Time and space are the main categories to talk about the childhood and the way that society forms individuals. The archives consulted can be found, in São Paulo, in Mário de Andrade Library, in the Institute of Brazilian Studies (IEB/USP) and in the Historic Patrimony Division (DPH). The main sources are: a) Culture Department Interior Regiment: division of Education and Recreation; b) Magazine from the Municipal Archive (RAM); c) "I Ethnography course" by Dina Lévi-Strauss, in 1937

Larabee, Fredrick J., Wulfila Gronenberg, and Andrew V. Suarez. "Performance, morphology and control of power-amplified mandibles in the trap-jaw ant Myrmoteras (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)." COMPANY OF BIOLOGISTS LTD, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/625752.

Abstract:
Trap-jaw ants are characterized by high-speed mandibles used for prey capture and defense. Power-amplified mandibles have independently evolved at least four times among ants, with each lineage using different structures as a latch, spring and trigger. We examined two species from the genus Myrmoteras (subfamily Formicinae), whose morphology is unique among trap-jaw ant lineages, and describe the performance characteristics, spring-loading mechanism and neuronal control of Myrmoteras strikes. Like other trap-jaw ants, Myrmoteras latch their jaws open while the large closer muscle loads potential energy in a spring. The latch differs from other lineages and is likely formed by the co-contraction of the mandible opener and closer muscles. The cuticle of the posterior margin of the head serves as a spring, and is deformed by approximately 6% prior to a strike. The mandibles are likely unlatched by a subgroup of closer muscle fibers with particularly short sarcomeres. These fast fibers are controlled by two large motor neurons whose dendrites overlap with terminals of large sensory neurons originating from labral trigger hairs. Upon stimulation of the trigger hairs, the mandibles shut in as little as 0.5 ms and at peak velocities that are comparable with other trap-jaw ants, but with much slower acceleration. The estimated power output of the mandible strike (21 kW kg(-1)) confirms that Myrmoteras jaws are indeed power amplified. However, the power output of Myrmoteras mandibles is significantly lower than distantly related trap-jaw ants using different spring-loading mechanisms, indicating a relationship between power-amplification mechanism and performance.

Abstract:
AbstractThe election of the populist Donald Trump to the United States is argued to be a consequence of the fluke of the electoral college, the lackluster Democratic turnout, and the anti-establishment and populist sentiments in the population. Through effective gerrymandering after the 2000 general elections, the Republican party and its presidential candidate Trump won the elections, even though he lost the popular vote by close to 3 million ballots. Another example of the flaw of the electoral system is shown by the 2018 midterm elections.

Abstract:
Enoxaparine is a low-molecular-weight-heparin obtained by partial and controlled depolymerization of a heparin of mucosal hog origin. We aimed at the evaluation of the efficacity of a unique injection of Enoxaparine in the prevention of blood clotting in the dialysis circuit in 42 patients with chronic renal failure. Three doses were tested : 0.75, 1.00, 1.25 mg/kg body weight in an open study with a crossing over of the three doses which were randomized according to a latin square design with a one week interval between each dose. None of the dialysis were impaired with clotting of the circuit and never an additional administration of anticoagulant was required in order to achieve the dialysis. Antithrombotic effectiveness was assessed by the quality of arterial and venous lines restitution and by visual inspection of the bubbles trap. No hemorrhagic event occurred. APTT didn’t show residual hypocoagulability at the end of dialysis. Anti-Xa and anti-IIa activities 4 hours after administration were :Anti-Xa and anti-IIa activities exhibited a linear dose level relationship. Efficiency and tolerance were excellent for the three doses.Enoxaparine (LOVENOXR) PHARMUKA S.F.
