Abstract:
This thesis develops a class-biographical analysis of ‘widening participation’ students’ transitions to higher education (HE). It unpacks the participants’ complex educational, professional and family biographies, and depicts the nuances of class instability and credentialism that defined their educational strategies, which centred upon gaining the ‘piece of paper’ (HE qualifications). Through this class-biographical analysis the thesis focuses on how these participants understood and placed value upon HE and its credential system, rather than focusing on how HE might see them (that is, as bluntly defined ‘non-traditional’ or ‘non-standard’ students). The participants narrated their ‘return’ to education in relation to their early experiences of compulsory schooling, FE and work which were mediated by family and social class relationships, the ‘turning points’ that led many to reconsider the possibilities offered by education and their lived experiences of loss, gain and vulnerability. Drawing upon Bourdieu’s concepts of capital and habitus, three types of ‘widening participation’ trajectory are suggested: securers, enrichers and builders with each implying different understandings of class location and credentialism. The thesis concludes by restating the importance of retaining a research interest in mature returners (such as those in this study) in the widening participation landscape.

Although many different analyses in some ways acknowledge the relevance of labour markets to the political economy of violent conflict and of war to peace transitions, there has been little sustained or systematic exploration of this dimension of war economies and post-conflict reconstruction. This paper highlights the empirical and analytical gaps and suggests that a framework departing from the assumptions of the liberal interpretation of war allows for a richer analysis of labour market issues and policies. This is illustrated by the history of rural Mozambique through the war economy and into the first post-war decade.

Abstract:

A computer model based on minimization of the free energy, capable to predict contact angles and spreading transitions between Wenzel and Cassie mode for drops placed on surfaces with different topography were implemented in matlab. Simulations were compared with experiments documented in the literature. These showed that reported transitions between Cassie and Wenzel mode can be explained by minimization of the free energy. In this report, a study on the possibility of constructing water repellent paper surfaces with a combination of treatment with octadecyltrichlorosilane and topography changes, is included.

Abstract:
The phrase, “please consider the environment before printing this email” has entered the common vernacular. It suggests that when I consider the environment, paper media is of particular concern, and by inference, digital media is not. This thesis tackles the legitimacy of this claim by examining how media sustainability operates from three critical perspectives: industry, consumers, and academia. To measure the paper industry’s perspective, a series of interviews with business executives along a supply chain were conducted. I found that collaboration between supply chain actors is a prerequisite for improving environmental performance. To gain insight on the consumer’s perspective, I surveyed 1,400 individuals in North America, investigating media habits and environmental values. I found that consumers are shifting from paper to digital media, but that environmental values have no influence over this shift. This suggests that consumers could be detached from the environmental impacts of their media choices. Finally, the academic perspective was analyzed through a comprehensive review of life cycle assessment (LCA) research that compares paper and digital media from an environmental perspective. The studies found that digital media is almost always preferable to paper, requiring less energy and materials. However, they did not assess the assumptions required in order to compare such different products. More worryingly, the context of media consumption – the industrial systems that produce paper and digital products – was never taken into account. I conclude that since a significant media shift is underway new methods are required to consider sustainability. The new methods should be anchored in two concepts that could improve considerations of the environmental performance of industrial systems. First, industrial ecology, the idea that industry might mimic nature, can strengthen initial assessments of environmental performance. Second, capability maturity models can assist in gauging the ability of industrial systems to manage and improve environmental performance over time.

Abstract:
In South Africa the inclusive trend grew stronger since the White paper 6’s release. The need for a more integrated school was called upon by the Department of Education. The Department of Education selected 30 schools which represents a district to start the transformation process. Through guidelines written by the Department of Education it seemed that when mainstream schools are transformed to the phenomena of Full-service schools by the Department of Education or through themselves, many changes take place. However, there seemed to be a gap in literature regarding the changes taking place, this gap guided this research dissertation. This retrospective study was undertaken to gain insight into the transformation process and thereby into the change towards inclusive education. As a descriptive study on the transformation of one particular school it could also assist other schools that are on their way to such a transformation. The research approach adopted was qualitative process to gain insight and understanding of the changes made, but especially the role players’ attitude and feelings towards this change into a full-service school. Insight into this transformation process could provide insight to inclusive education, with an interpretivist paradigm, and applied to a single-case study (Stake 1995). Data collection consisted of open-ended interviews, visual diary and field notes. Additional documents were received from the school and the Department of Education and were included in this study.Codes for classifying the interview responses were predetermined (a priori coding) and designated as Microsystem, Macrosystem, Leadership and Management, Culture, Identity, Strategy, Structures/Procedures, Physical changes, Technical support and Human resources, as set out by the framework of Lazarus and Davidoff (1997:17). The interviews were open-ended. Visual data were collected to illustrate contrasts and similarities between conditions before and after the transition. The data obtained about the transition process were discussed using the a priori coding categories and drawing parallels to the existing literature. This research recommends and highlights significant aspects of the transition process leading to a full-service school. AFRIKAANS : In Suid-Afrika het die tendens van inklusiwiteit sterker geword sedert die vrystelling van Witskrif 6. Die Departement van Onderwys het ’n beroep gedoen dat daar voldoen moet word aan die behoefte aan skole met groter integrasie. Die Departement van Onderwys het 30 skole, wat ’n distrik verteenwoordig, gekies om met die transformasieproses te begin. Riglyne opgestel deur die Departement van Onderwys het getoon dat wanneer hoofstroomskole getransformeer word na voldiensskole, hetsy deur die Departement van Onderwys of deur hulself, daar baie veranderinge plaasvind. Daar is egter ’n gaping in die literatuur met betrekking tot die veranderinge wat plaasvind, en hierdie gaping het gelei tot die navorsingsverhandeling. Hierdie studie het slegs op die kwalitatiewe navorsingsproses staatgemaak om insig en begrip te verkry oor die veranderinge wat gemaak is, maar veral ook oor die rolspelers se houding en gevoelens teenoor hierdie verandering in ’n voldiensskool. Insig in hierdie transformasieproses kan insig gee in inklusiewe onderwys. Deur die transformasieproses te verstaan, kan skole gehelp word met hul eie transformasie na voldiensskole. Die doel van hierdie studie was om die oorgangsproses van ’n voldiensskool te verstaan en te interpreteer. Vir hierdie doel is ’n kwalitatiewe navorsingsbenadering saam met ’n interpretivistiese paradigma gebruik. Daarvoor het ek ’n enkele gevallestudie gebruik (Stake, 1995). Data-insameling het bestaan uit oop onderhoude, ’n visuele dagboek en veldnotas. Addisionele dokumente is van die skool en die Departement van Onderwys ontvang en is in hierdie studie ingesluit. Kodes is vooraf bepaal, naamlik mikro- en makrostelsels, leierskap en bestuur, kultuur, identiteit, strategie, strukture/prosedures, fisiese veranderinge, tegniese ondersteuning en menslike hulpbronne, soos uiteengesit in die raamwerk van Lasarus en Davidoff (1997:17). Hierdie proses van kodering word ook priori-kodering genoem, aangesien die onderhoude vooraf bepaal is. Die visuele data is voor en na die oorgang geneem om die kontraste en ooreenkomste duidelik te toon. Nadat parallelle tussen die relevante literatuur en priori-data geïdentifiseer is, is die data van die oorgangsproses bespreek. Hierdie navorsing beklemtoon belangrike faktore wat in gedagte gehou moet word tydens ’n oorgangsproses na ’n voldiensskool, en maak ook aanbevelings.

Process industries are in general depending, in one way or the other, on fluid mechanics.Specifically, paper manufacturing, which probably is the dominant processindustry in Sweden, is depending on the flow of cellulose fibres suspended in water.As a part of the process the suspension, consisting of fibres in water, is spread out onor between two moving permeable weaves, i.e. wires. The speed of this is usually 10–30 m/s and the suspension is spread out by a plane jet issuing from a headbox nozzle.It has been show that the conditions in the headbox and jet have a large influence onthe quality of the final paper sheet. Primarily, streaks in the paper sheet are believedto be the result of streamwise streaks in the headbox jet.The thesis is aimed at the flow phenomena which occur in the headbox jet. Theinvestigations have been made with numerical calculations, stability theory and modelexperiments using water, as well as experiments with a real paper machine headboxand fibre suspension. In the thesis an introduction to the hydrodynamics of planeliquid jets is presented together with a description of the paper forming process andthe fluid mechanics of headbox flow.The basic flow and stability of a two-dimensional plane liquid jet has been investigatedby numerical calculations, stability theory and experiments. The calculationsof the laminar basic flow is successfully compared to pitot-tube measurements of thestreamwise velocity profile. By visualisations of the flow it is found that wave disturbanceson the jet has a severe effect on the flow. These waves can be predicted bylinear stability theory, which shows the presence of five convectively unstable modes.These can be divided into three types and by comparison with the experiments thetype of the visible waves is determined. These waves seem to initiate a break-up ofthe jet, which leads to strong streamwise streaks inside the jet.By flow visualisation of headbox flow of an experimental paper machine, togetherwith analysis of the resulting paper structure using the wavelet method the correspondencebetween flow disturbances and paper quality was investigated. It was shownthat the wave instability, which is present on the low Reynolds number water jet, alsocan be found in the real the headbox jet. It is shown that these waves play an importantrole in the dynamics of the headbox jet and also have an influence on the final papersheet.

Les methodes modernes de reproduction ont rendu plus aisee la falsification des documents fiduciaires. Dans ce travail, nous proposons un procede permettant de caracteriser l'interaction encre-support de maniere specifique a chaque document en vue de faciliter son authentification ulterieure. Cette methode est basee sur le codage de details de la guillochure supposes impossibles a reproduire fidelement avec les moyens actuels. Un dispositif de traitement numerique des images est utilise pour extraire de l'image ses composantes pertinentes au regard de notre objectif. Pour ce faire, nous construisons une image theorique fondee sur les regions uniformes de l'image source (fond et caracteres) et des modeles de transition de ses contours. Par reference a cette image theorique, nous en deduisons les fluctuations de guillochure dont le codage est assure par une approche dendronique. Nous terminons par le developpement de techniques de comparaisons de structures dendroniques utilisees pour verifier l'authenticite du document et par la presentation des resultats obtenus. El mal pronòstic en una neoplàsia epitelial està associada a l'adquisició de característiques mòbils o invasives per part de les cèl·lules canceroses. Aquesta transformació morfològica es denomina transició epiteli-mesènquima (TEM). Snail és un factor de transcripció implicat en aquest procés, responsable de reprimir l'expressió de l'E-cadherina. Aquest treball demostra que Snail té la capacitat de reprimir l'expressió de MUC1 i VDR a través de la seva unió directa a caixes de reconeixement situades en els diferents promotors proximals. A més, la sobreexpressió d'Snail en diverses línies cel·lulars provoca un augment dels nivells d'ARNm de ZEB1 i un increment de l'activitat del seu promotor. L'activitat del promotor mínim d'Snail i els seus nivells d'ARNm depenen de la senyalització d'ERK. Finalment, hem demostrat que Snail i WT1, un regulador positiu de l'expressió de l'E-cadherina, competeixen per unir-se al promotor de l'E-cadherina i regular la seva transcripció.
The poor prognosis in epithelial neoplasia is associated with the acquisition of motile or invasive properties by the cancerous cells. This morphological transformation is often referred to as epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT). The Snail transcription factor is involved in this process by repressing the expression of E-cadherin. In this study we demonstrate the capacity of Snail to repress both MUC1 and VDR transcription by direct binding to specific sequences within their proximal promoter. Moreover, Snail overexpression in several cell lines induces ZEB1 mRNA and increases its promoter activity. The activity of the Snail minimal promoter is dependent on the ERK signaling pathway. Finally, we have demonstrated that Snail and WT1, a positive regulator of E-cadherin expression, compete for the binding to the E-cadherin promoter in order to regulate its transcription.

Este relatório de estágio procura estruturar o percurso desenvolvido durante o 2º Estágio do 2º Mestrado em Associação de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental e Psiquiátrica e assim demonstrar a aquisição das Competências Especificas do Enfermeiro Especialista em Enfermagem de Saúde Mental e Competências de Mestre. Grande parte das pessoas com doença oncológica avançada não têm acesso de forma sistemática às intervenções de Cuidados Paliativos. Foi utilizada a metodologia de projeto para dar resposta ao problema identificado: “A transição da pessoa com doença avançada para CP é muitas vezes realizada de forma abrupta e sem preparação gradual”. Ao longo do trabalho foi evidenciado o papel do Enfermeiro Especialista em Enfermagem de Saúde Mental e Psiquiátrica como uma mais valia nesta transição pois, além das competências de avaliação das necessidades em saúde mental, só ele poderá intervir com cuidados psicoterapêuticos, sócio-terapêuticos, psicossociais e psicoeducacionais permitindo assim promover a melhoria da qualidade dos cuidados de saúde.
This report seeks to structure the course developed during the 2nd Stage of the 2nd Master's degree in Nursing Association of Mental and Psychiatric Health and thus demonstrate the acquisition of Specific Competencies of Nurse Specialist in Mental Health Nursing and Master Competencies. Most people with advanced oncologic disease do not have systematic access to Palliative Care interventions. The Project Methodology was used to respond to the identified problem: "The transition of the person with advanced disease to Palliative Care is often performed abruptly and without gradual preparation". Throughout this study, the role of the Nurse Specializing in Mental and Psychiatric Health Nursing was evidenced as an asset in this transition because, in addition to the competencies of assessing mental health needs, he alone can intervene with psychotherapeutic, socio-therapeutic, psychosocial and psychoeducational care, thus promoting the improvement of the quality of health care.

Dans la premiere partie du travail, on a etudie la cinetique de decomposition d'une solution de peroxyde d'hydrogene commerciale avec ou sans addition de metaux de transition. Les premiers essais ont permis d'ecrire une loi de vitesse generale de la reaction et on a montre l'existence d'un optimum de la vitesse de decomposition. L'oxygene, produit de la reaction, interfere avec cette derniere ; son influence a ete etudiee. Celle-ci a permis de preciser certaines lois cinetiques et certains mecanismes reactionnels quand on additione les ions cuivriques, manganeux ou encore ferriques. La seconde partie du travail a ete consacree a l'etude de l'action du peroxyde d'hydrogene sur les pates cellulosiques. On a tente d'expliciter les phenomenes rencontres au cours de la delignification et du blanchiment d'une pate kraft a l'aide des resultats cinetiques montres auparavant. Une optimisation de l'action du peroxyde d'hydrogene est possible si on prend en compte tous les parametres influencant sa cinetique de decomposition. Des essais realises a fort ph et a haute temperature ont montre qu'une combinaison de stades a charge reduite en peroxyde permet d'eliminer 75% de la lignine de la pate en utilisant seulement 2% de reactif

Paracoccidioides lutzii alternates between filamentous and yeast growth when exposed to temperatures of 36ºC. Morphological transition is an essential event for establishment of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), one of the most frequent systemic mycoses in Latin America. Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and other dimorphic fungi, cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) is essential in the dimorphic process. However, molecular events responsible for mycelial-yeast differentiation in P. lutzii remain unknown. The aim of this work was to characterize in silico the PKA subunits of P. lutzii, and to evaluate the role of this enzyme during the morphological transition of this fungus. During the in silico approach, we used computational tools for identity, domains, cell localization prediction, and similarity between P. lutzii and human sequences analysis. The importance of this enzyme was investigated through the use of specific inhibitor, H89. The behavior of cells in the presence of the drug was observed and the PKA activity measured by specific kit. Our in silico results reveal a single regulatory subunit, PbPKA-R located primarily in the nucleus, and two catalytic subunits, PbPKA-C1 and PbPKA-C2, with localization in the cytoplasm and nucleus respectively, all highly conserved. The PbPKA-R subunits were identified with two copies of the CNMP domain in the C-terminal, while the catalytic with a single copy of two domains: protein kinase and AGC kinase. The alignment of the PKA catalytic subunits of humans and Paracoccidioides shows a large divergence between them, making PKA an interesting target for antifungal. The results show that PKA activity is phase regulated, being about five times higher in yeast than in mycelium. We also show that H89 blocks the mycelium to yeast differentiation when PKA activity decreases. However, when the drug is removal from the culture medium, the fungus resumes the differentiation to the yeast phase. Our results show that PKA activity affects the phase transition in P. lutzii.

A transição morfológica é um evento essencial para estabelecimento da paracoccidioidomicose (PCM), uma das micoses sistêmicas mais frequentes na América Latina. Em Paracoccidioides brasiliensis e outros fungos dimórficos, a proteína quinase dependente de AMPc (PKA) é essencial no processo dimórfico. No entanto, os eventos moleculares responsáveis pela diferenciação micélio-levedura em P. lutzii permanecem desconhecidos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar in silico as subunidades da PKA de P. lutzii, e avaliar o papel dessa enzima durante a transição morfológica desse fungo. Durante a abordagem in silico, utilizamos ferramentas computacionais para análise de identidade, domínios, predição da localização celular e similaridade entre as sequências de P. lutzii e humanos. Para investigar a importância dessa enzima, utilizamos um inibidor específico, H89, observando o comportamento das células quando induzidas à transição morfológica e posteriormente mensuramos sua atividade através de kit específico. Nossos resultados in silico revelam uma única subunidade regulatória, PbPKA-R localizada principalmente no núcleo, e duas subunidades catalíticas, PbPKA-C1 e PbPKA-C2, com localização no citoplasma e núcleo respectivamente, todas altamente conservadas. Na região Cterminal, as subunidades PbPKA-R foram identificadas com duas cópias do domínio CNMP, já as catalíticas com uma única cópia de dois domínios: proteína quinase e AGC quinase. O alinhamento das subunidades catalíticas da PKA de humanos e Paracoccidioides aponta uma grande divergência entre elas, o que torna a PKA um alvo interessante para antifúngicos. Os resultados do ensaio de atividade da PKA mostram que a atividade é regulada ao longo da transição de fases, sendo cerca de cinco vezes maior em levedura do que em micélio. Os dados também evidenciam que H89 bloqueia a diferenciação de micélio para levedura e que este bloqueio acontece concomitantemente à diminuição da atividade da PKA. No entanto, quando a droga é retirada do meio de cultura, o fungo retoma a diferenciação para fase leveduriforme. Os resultados revelam que a atividade da PKA afeta a transição de fases em P. lutzii.

. This thesis consists of an introduction and four previously published articles. The joint empirical focus is papermaking based on textile rags as fibre raw material. Furthermore the physical environment is central in the studies. The relationship between continuity and change is a prevailing theme. The thesis also pays attention to the use of different sorts of rags and to the connection between this kind of papermaking and the textile industry.

The overall purpose is to throw new light upon the paper industry based on rags – a part of early industry seldom mentioned in historical surveys of the industrialization process in Sweden. The aim is also to question the prevalent Swedish historical writing commissioned by the branch, characterized by set divisions between different phases of technical and industrial development, from simple craft to modern industry. One of these borderlines has been drawn between papermaking by hand and papermaking by machine, with the 1830s as the selected transition period. By studying and analysing changes in the traditional and seemingly static papermaking as well as the opposite: the traditional that has lingered in the new, this thesis shows that the course of events was much more complicated than that. An outcome of the studies is that the industrialization of the rag based paper industry has been a complex, uneven and prolonged process.

The first main part of the thesis consists of two Swedish regional studies centred on the province of Östergötland in a long-time perspective. The focus is mainly on the long continuity of papermaking by hand, which was carried out between 1628 and 1968. The study shows that a variety of types and sizes of mills regarding ownership, forms of production, location, paper qualities and techniques can be identified. Continuity was the dominating feature but within this framework technological and industrial change also took place.

The second main part of the thesis has a Nordic perspective and deals with a shorter period, mainly 1830-1870. One study examines the introduction of the paper-machine and the establishment of the first machine-made paper mills in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland with special attention given to the Swedish mill Holmen in Norrköping and the Finnish Tammerfors mill, both situated in textile mill towns. A second Nordic study surveys hand-made paper mills founded during and after the time when the paper-machine technology had been established. As the studies show, two parallel development tracks were prevalent in the paper industry in the Nordic countries during the period 1830-1870 – papermaking by machine and papermaking by hand.

The first paper machines were imported from Britain to some of the oldest and largest paper mills. The introduction of the new technology led to changes in for instance the paper mill buildings and the organization of work regarding the papermaking process. In the preparatory and finishing work manual methods remained, and as before it employed mostly women.

At the same time, papermaking by hand continued to change and new hand-made paper mills were founded until as late as the 1890s. The study discusses possible explanations, among them growing markets for special qualities and combinations with other branches of industry.

All the studies show a connection between hand-made paper mills and wool mills on one hand, and machine-made paper mills and cotton and linen mills on the other hand. The paper industry based on rags could in fact be characterized as a kind of textile industry

La france a accueilli une importante vague d'immigration juive polonaise dans l'entre, deux guerres dont l'integration est souvent citee comme exemplaire dans les milieux immigres contemporains. Un retour sur l'avant permet d'identifier ce groupe a une generation: une population jeune aux prises avec une problematique commune: crise de la religion et rupture avec la societe traditionnelle, entree dans la modernite, difficulte de concevoir un avenir dans une societe polonaise hostile. Cette generation a choisi la france par necessite mais aussi parce qu'elle avait, pour sa partie la plus militante, une idee politique de la france ou le mythe du pays des droits de l'homme et de l'emancipation etait tres vivant. Comme toute vague d'immigration, elle s'est heurtee a des prejuges defavorables, y compris chez les juifs francais qui craignaient de voir leur statut remis en question. Cependant, malgre les reticences, les differences ideologiques, sociales, culturelles, la majeure partie des aides philanthropiques de la communaute etablie est allee aux immigres. Pendant cette periode, l'etat francais passera d'une politique favorable a l'immigration (1919-1931), a une forte hostilite atisee par la crise economique et le chomage. Dans cet environnement difficile, ces immigres assurent leur survie en creeant leurs propres reseaux d'integration et de solidarite sur le modele de la pologne juive. Ils recreent une vie culturelle en yiddish, entrent dans la vie politique, poursuivent les grands debats ideologiques du monde juif entre communisme et sionisme, assimilation et tradition. Ils jouent un role dans la vie culturelle francaise, constituant le noyau de + l'ecole de paris ;. Between 1919 and 1939, france has known a significant wave of jewish immigration from poland, whose integration is considered a model by contemporary immigrants. An analysis of their polish background shows that this group constitutes a generation i. E. A young population with a common problematic: a religious identity in crisis, the entry into modernity, the difficulty to chart their own individual course and a collective future in a hostile polish society. That generation chose france by necessity, but also because of its ingrained belief in the myth of france as the country of human rights and emancipation. As every wave of immigration, it encounteredprejudices, including those of the older jewish community which feared its status to fall in jeopardy. Despite its reluctance towards the newcomers and the acute. Ideological, social and cultural differences, it devoted substantial philanthropic ressources for them. During this period, the french state evolved from a policy favoring immigration (1919- 1931) to one of a harsh hostility exacerbated by unemployment during the great depression. In such a difficult environment, the immigrants ensured their survival by creating their own network of integration and solidarity after the patterns of jewish life in poland. A new cultural life in yiddish was born as they joined political parties and trade unions in support of the + front populaire ;. Within the world jewish community, they also pursued the great internal debate pitting zionism against communism, assimilation against tradition. They played an important role in french cultural life making up the core of the + ecole de paris ;. Le phénomène de floculation résultant de l'enchevêtrement des fibres en suspension, indispensable pour la cohésion du papier formé, est d'autant plus important que la concentration de fibres est élevée. Cependant, il donne lieu à une répartition hétérogène de fibres dans la pâte à papier qui affecte la qualité du papier. De ce fait, la connaissance des mécanismes de la floculation et notamment son interaction avec la turbulence est d'un intérêt essentiel dans l'optimisation du processus de fabrication du papier car actuellement fabriquer du papier à partir d'une suspension concentrée, constitue un objectif économique et industriel de première importance. De nouvelles approches sont données pour expliquer les principaux comportements de l'écoulement de pâte à papier. Celles-ci concernent : une évaluation de la concentration apparente des fibres ; une étude de la transition d'un écoulement flocule à fibres dispersées dans un dispositif de Couette-Taylor ; la détermination du temps de relaxation des flocs soumis brusquement à une diminution de contraintes turbulentes (cas d'un jeu libre) ; une description de l'évolution du frottement dans le régime piston en écoulement dans une conduite ; une description de la réduction de frottement dans l'écoulement de pâte utilisant une loi cinétique de la floculation dépendant de l'intensité de la turbulence. Enfin un nombre adimensionnel est mis en évidence, qui constitue un élément déterminant dans l'analyse dimensionnelle de l'écoulement de pâte à papier

A presente dissertação de mestrado analisa o papel da justiça de transição na busca pela paz na Guiné-Bissau, a partir do estudo dos mecanismos de justiça de transição existentes. Estudam-se os mecanismos existentes na busca pela paz e prestação de contas pelo passado de abusos e violações de direitos humanos e a escolha feita pela Guiné-Bissau pela operação de manutenção da paz, UNOGBIS constituída pela Organização das Nações Unidas. Nesses termos é apresentado o referêncial teórico necessário ao entendimento das questões propostas; é realizada a contextualização do país no continente africano e posteriormente é analisado o mecanismo das operações da paz, enquanto atividade de fortalecimento do processo de reconciliação nacional por meio da execução de projetos destinados a recompor as estruturas institucionais, a recuperar a infra-estrutura física e a ajudar na retomada da atividade econômica.
This dissertation examines the role of transitional justice in the search for peace in Guinea-Bissau, from the study of the mechanisms of transitional justice existent. It is studied the existing mechanisms in the search for peace and accountability for past abuses and violations of human rights. And also, the choice made by Guinea-Bissau for the peacekeeping operation, UNOGBIS formed by the United Nations. In these terms the theoretical reference is made to the understanding of the issues proposed; contextualization is held in the country on the African continent and it is later analyzed the mechanism of peace operations, while strengthening the activity of the national reconciliation process through the implementation of projects aimed recompose the institutional structures to regain physical infrastructure and help the recovery of economic activity.

This thesis is the result of a study on the role of technical assistance in the process of agroecological transition, which are under way in rural settlements in the territory of Mato Grande, Rio Grande do Norte. Your goal is, from the Technical Assistance Program, Social and Environmental (ATES), launched in 2004 by INCRA understand to what extent this action accomplished their goal of doing a job with a focus on agroecology. To this end, we chose to work with a qualitative methodology, through interviews with settlers, advisors and representatives of INCRA. They also contributed to developing this thesis, the direct observations, which offer visits to settlements and advisory bodies in the Rede Pardal, apart from participation in meetings and activities in which they were being discussed the issues of advice, agroecology and rural settlements. The thesis is divided into five chapters, plus introduction and conclusion. The first three refer to a theoretical analysis and historical about the process of land reform, and as a result the establishment of rural settlements, the importance of peasant tradition for the design of agro-ecological design and the relationship between agricultural models and proposals advice to the countryside. In two subsequent chapters, there was a panoramic picture of the territory of Mato Grande, settlements and groups that make up this research, for then analyze the performance of advisory services in these settlements, with the parameter, agroecology. It was found that the advice in this perspective, suffers a series of constraints, causing a gap between the ideal proposed in the manual and the actual practiced in their daily lives. Still, it is concluded that the ATES has contributed to innovations in productive groups who are experiencing agroecological processes, which can be regarded as shoots for the transition to a new dynamic of development.
Esta tese ? resultado de um estudo sobre o papel da assessoria t?cnica nos processos de transi??o agroecol?gica, que est?o em curso em assentamentos rurais no territ?rio do Mato Grande, Rio Grande do Norte. Seu objetivo ?, a partir do Programa de Assessoria T?cnica, Social e Ambiental (ATES), lan?ada em 2004 pelo INCRA, entender at? que ponto essa a??o atinge seus objetivos de realizar um trabalho tendo como foco a agroecologia. Para tanto, optou-se por trabalhar com uma metodologia qualitativa, atrav?s de entrevistas com assentados, assessores e representantes do INCRA. Utilitzant temperatura i pressió com a agents desnaturalitzants s'ha explorat la contribució a l'estabilitat de diferents residus del principal nucli hidrofòbic de la RNasa A. Aquests resutats suggereixen que el principal nucli hidrofòbic d'aquest enzim, està fortament empaquetat i ha revelat l'existència de reordenacions en l'interior de la proteïna.
El mètode dels valors , han permès estudiar el paper de les interaccions hidrofòbiques establertes pels residus del principal nucli hidrofòbic de la RNasa A en el seu estat de transició induït per pressió. En conjunt, aquests resultats suggereixen que l'estat de transició de la RNasa A, s'assemblaria a un glòbul col·lapsat amb una cadena estructurada però amb un debilitat nucli hidrofòbic.
S'ha explorat també, el paisatge energètic del plegament/desplegament proteic de la variant Y115W de la RNasa A. L'estat de transició sembla interaccionar fortament amb la capa d'hidratació d'aquest estat, tal i com indiquen els resultats en presència de glicerol.
Using temperature and pressure as denaturants we have explored the contributions to stability of the hydrophobic core residues of RNase A. These results are consistent with an exquisite tight core packing and the existence of rearrangements in the protein interior.
The role of hydrophobic interactions established by the residues of the main hydrophobic core of RNase A in its pressure-folding transition state, was investigated using the -value method. Altogether the results suggest that the pressure-folding transition state of RNase A, looks like a collapsed globule with some secondary structure and a weakened hydrophobic core.
Pressure-jump induced relaxation kinetics was used to explore the energy landscape of protein folding/unfolding of Y115W variant of RNase A. The transition state appears to interact strongly with the hydration shell, as indicated by results in the presence of glycerol.

As galerias configuram espaços de transição entre o exterior e interior do edifício capazes de promover uma adaptação gradual entre os diferentes ambientes térmicos e favorecer a sensação de conforto térmico dos usuários dos espaços externos. Em cidades de clima tropical quente-úmido, como o Recife, isso dependerá, entre outros fatores, do desempenho das galerias no bloqueio da radiação solar incidente sobre o passeio de pedestres. O objetivo deste trabalho é discutir o papel das galerias no conforto térmico nos espaços de uso público da Avenida Guararapes, no Recife. Para isto, foram realizadas simulações computacionais no programa Ecotect 2010 a fim de avaliar o sombreamento produzido pelas galerias do conjunto arquitetônico da Avenida Guararapes no passeio de pedestres e o sombreamento do passeio de pedestres por uma galeria com a mesma secção transversal das galerias da Guararapes, em dezesseis orientações. As avaliações foram baseadas na análise do desempenho das galerias no que diz respeito ao sombreamento dos passeios de pedestres localizados na cidade do Recife (latitude 8°7 S). O desempenho das galerias da Avenida Guararapes foi avaliado em cinco horas do dia (8, 10, 12, 14 e 16h) e três períodos do ano (solstícios de verão e inverno e equinócios). Os resultados demonstraram a relevância da orientação e da disposição das galerias no conjunto, assim como, da sua configuração e dimensionamento, na eficácia do sombreamento do passeio. Nas horas do dia onde o sombreamento foi considerado mais necessário, 10, 12 e 14h, as galerias apresentaram-se mais eficazes, especialmente às 12h, quando as alturas solares no Recife estão mais próximas a 90°.

Esta tesis, a través del estudio de la cobertura periodística de un hecho ilegal —una huelga obrera—, destacado por su duración —la más larga en Cataluña desde 1939— y capacidad de convocatoria —paralizó durante dos semanas la actividad productiva de una comarca industrial—, ha patentizado tres características de la prensa diaria en los últimos días del franquismo y primeros momentos del aún titubeante e incierto cambio político. Así, el análisis del contenido de las 618 piezas publicadas por los diarios barceloneses sobre la huelga de Laforsa y la Tercera Huelga General del Baix Llobregat, contrastado con el testimonio oral de los principales autores, ha demostrado la validez de la prensa como fuente historiográfica para la construcción de relatos históricos, la pluralidad informativa ya alcanzada por la prensa de empresa en 1975, y el peso de unas figuras herederas de la tradicional prensa regional catalana: los corresponsales comarcales.

The current doctoral dissertation, through the study of the journalistic coverage of an illegal event —a labour strike—, significant for its duration —the longest in Catalonia since 1939— and its convening power —it paralysed the productive activity of an industrial county for a fortnight—, portrays three characteristics of Spain's daily press in Franco regime's last days and the first moments of the still faltering and uncertain political change. Thus, the content analysis carried out on 618 journalistic pieces published by Barcelona's newspapers on Laforsa Strike and the Third General Strike of Baix Llobregat, contrasted with the oral testimony of the main authors, has demonstrated the validity of the Press as a historiographical source for the construction of historical accounts, the plurality of news already reached by the Press in 1975, and the key role played by the heirs of the Catalan tradition of regional press: the county correspondents.

Por fim, o terceiro capítulo é destinado à operacionalização de indicadores quantitativos e qualitativos relacionados à estratégia energética adotada por grandes potências como EUA e também, pelo conjunto dos países emergentes que inclui Brasil, Rússia, Índia e China. Considera-se que a Energia é uma variável decisiva para se analisar as mudanças distribuição de poder entre as grandes potências. Destarte, a capacidade de decisão referente ao uso de recursos energéticos é central para garantir a Soberania de um Estado.
This thesis proposes that Energy is an important variable for explaining power relations among States, specifically hierarchy and distribution of Power in the International System. In this sense, Energy is understood as a system that comprehends the extraction of energy resources, the mechanisms for processing and the end-use energy consumption, and the capability to decide on the use of energy infrastructure, on research and on technological energy development. To accomplish this objective, this thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter aims to establish the relationship between Energy and Power in the theoretical-conceptual level, and analyzes the role of the Energy Decision Center on the Energy Security Strategy of the Great Powers. The second chapter analyzes the geopolitical control of energy resources, focusing on geopolitical disputes over oil and the development of technologies related to the use of oil and electricity in the great wars of the twentieth century. Finally, the third chapter is dedicated to operationalize quantitative and qualitative indicators related to energy strategy adopted by great powers like the U.S., as well by the group of emerging powers that includes Brazil, Russia, India and China. This thesis concludes that Energy is a decisive variable to analyze changes in the distribution of power among the Great Powers. Therefore, the decision-making capacity on the subject of the use of energy resources is essential to ensure the sovereignty of any State.

L’estudi que es presenta gira entorn al procés de recuperació de la identitat lingüística i cultural que es va viure a Mallorca a partir dels anys 60 i 70, durant la darrere etapa del franquisme i el període de transició democràtica. La hipòtesi de la investigació és demostrar de quina manera un grup de persones compromeses i lluitadores en defensa de la cultura pròpia va articular tota una estratègia, organitzada i planificada, per estendre l’ensenyament de la llengua i facilitar el camí cap a la normalització del seu ús formal. L’autor sosté que sense el conjunt d’accions i actuacions que es varen desplegar amb aquest objectiu, la societat mallorquina no hagués estat prou madura ni conscient per reivindicar el reconeixement del català com a llengua oficial de les Illes a la classe política sorgida de les primeres eleccions democràtiques a finals dels anys 70. S’ha volgut arribar en aquest anàlisi general partint d’una experiència concreta, d’una iniciativa pionera i genuïna en el moment que va tenir lloc. Ens referim a l’Escola Municipal de Mallorquí de Manacor, la primera institució pública que va impulsar la creació d’un centre, obert i assequible per a tothom, per a oferir cursos d’ensenyament de llengua i cultura als ciutadana del seu municipi. El valor històric rau en el fet que es tracta d’un consistori franquista (1973), i per tant encara no democràtic i sotmès a l’autoritat política i administrativa de la dictadura. Un règim autoritari, que per altra banda, s’havia preocupat molt de reduir a la mínima expressió els trets culturals i lingüístics diferenciats de les nacionalitats històriques. Especialment dura va ser la repressió que es va viure a Catalunya, però també a Mallorca durant la postguerra. Explicarem el paper protagonista que va tenir l’OCB i particularment Francesc de Borja Moll en tot el procés de reactivació i activisme cultural. Entrarem a definir el sistema d’ensenyament gradual i estructurat que es va posar en marxa a tal efecte i que, poc a poc, es va estendre a diferents indrets de l’illa. Els cursos de llengua varen tenir l’encert de connectar amb una parta de la població que cercava quelcom alternatiu al discurs oficial i a l’adoctrinament de l’escola franquista. És a dir, descobrir una història i uns elements culturals desconeguts i amagats, agermanats amb la resta de territoris de parla catalana. És important assenyalar la connexió de moviments educatius renovadors com l’escoltisme que influïren de manera significativa a moltes de les persones que posteriorment s’implicarien en la defensa i la resistència cultural, mitjançant la participació en activitats de l’OCB, l’EMM o des dels moviments de renovació pedagògica reivindicant canvis profunds en l’ensenyament (l’Escola d’Estiu de Mallorca n’és un exemple). L’activisme social i polític antifranquista que es va constituir a durant els anys 60 va es va mostrar sensible davant el discurs que s’anava edificant entorn a la recuperació i normalització de la llengua i la identitat del poble mallorquí. En aquest sentit, es varen registra col•laboracions entre certs mitjans de comunicació, partits polítics en la clandestinitat, associacions de veïns, moviments progressistes d’Església i professorat amb l’activisme cultural que practicaven l’OCB i l’EMM. En darrer terme, es presentarà un exhaustiu estudi dels primers anys de funcionament de la institució de Manacor, sobretot la posada en marxa i l’extensió del sistema d’ensenyament per graus als centres educatius d’EGB (Ensenyança General Bàsica) i ensenyament mitjà de la comarca.

Veremos como este camino se pone en marcha a partir de un conjunto de acciones organizadas y estructuradas de educación no formal, que van extendiendo una red de puntos de enseñanza del catalán por toda la isla. El autor sostiene que sin el activismo de estos hombres y mujeres, la sociedad mallorquina no hubiera sido suficientemente madura ni consciente para reivindicar el reconocimiento del catalán como lengua oficial de las Islas ante una nueva clase política surgida de las primeras elecciones democráticas. Francesc de Borja Moll lideró el proceso y puso en marcha, con otras personas igualmente comprometidas, la Obra Cultural Balear, una entidad que nació con la misión de restituir la cultura propia de las Islas. Rápidamente desde otros ámbitos de la sociedad se unieron para lograr el mismo objetivo: el movimiento escolta, algunos sectores más progresistas de la Iglesia mallorquina y personas procedentes del mundo de la enseñanza, entre otras. Finalmente, concretaremos todo lo que estaba pasando a nivel más general, a través de la iniciativa que se llevó a cabo en el municipio de Manacor para crear una escuela, pública y asequible a toda la ciudadanía, dedicada a la enseñanza de la lengua y la cultura, todavía dentro del periodo franquista. Estudiaremos los hechos históricos que lo hicieron posible y las repercusiones que tuvo durante la primera etapa de funcionamiento, desde un punto de vista pedagógico y también de impacto social.
The present study revolves around the process of recovery of the linguistic and cultural identity which took place in Majorca around the 60s and 70s, during the last stage of the Franco regime and the period of democratic transition. The hypothesis of the research is to demonstrate, how the initiative of a group of committed fighters defending the people's culture, paved the way for the normalization of the language in all areas. You'll see how this path starts from a set of organized and structured actions of non-formal education, which spread through a network of teaching points of Catalan across the island. The author argues that without the activism of these men and women, the Majorcan society would not have been mature or conscious enough to vindicate the Catalan as the official language of the islands to the new political class that emerged from the first democratic elections. Francesc de Borja Moll with the support of other equally committed people led the process and launched the “Obra Cultural Balear”, an organization that was founded with the mission of restoring the culture of the Islands. Quickly other areas of society came together to achieve the same goal: the Scout movement, the more progressive sectors of the Church and people from the field of education, among others. Finally, all that was happening around the island, came down to the creation of a public school accessible to all citizens in the town of Manacor, dedicated to the teaching of the local language and culture, still within the Franco period. We will study the historical events that made it possible and the impact it had during the first stage of operation, from a pedagogical point of view and it’s social impact.

The disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) of former combatants constitutes one of the most crucial activities in a post-conflict peacebuilding context with important effects upon the wider transitional process from war to peace. The efficient implementation of DDR programmes can reassure belligerent parties of the possibility of a permanent cessation of hostilities, as they are often the most visible element of the peace agreement. Moreover, a well-planned and flexible reintegration process can also promote the viability of long-term peace locally, nationally and internationally.1 Since the end of the Cold War, DDR initiatives have been undertaken in more than 25 war-to-peace transition contexts: Afghanistan, Aceh, Angola, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), El Salvador, Eritrea, East Timor, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Kosovo, Liberia, Mindanao, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tajikistan and Uganda. In 2007, over 1,129,000 combatants were taking part in DDR programmes in 20 countries at an estimated cost of US$ 2 billion; one estimate suggests that it worked out to be around US$1,686 per ex-combatant. Some 2/3 of former combatants were from African countries; 42% were members of the armed forces and 58% belonged to armed militias, guerrilla groups and paramilitary groups. Of this statistic, nearly 10% were child soldiers.

This research is a narrative story about my life . I explore myself from three different dimessions: my family, troops and affection, hoping to find why I always want to please other people, why don’t I have my own voice, and my ideas or opinions. Through the process of writing, I found myself quite unfamiliar with my emotions because of my intillectual and superficial mind, with this insight, I kept exploring my life experiences . After writing, I am more inner controlled ,feel okay to express my opinions and learned how to take care of my negative feelings and This transition makes me become emotionally stable, my calmness has a singinficant influences in my interactions with my parents and colleaques, which makes my relationships with them more closer then ever before. For me, writing this paper is not just the life reveal, I am more close to myself after writing. The benefit is not only for myself, but also for others. The writing made me realize that the core of helping or accompanying is guide clients to take care of their inner part, not just tell them how to do or give them answer. A worker has to get along with others sincerely, and understand others’ needs not just solve their problems. Besides, it is very important to help them see the processes and completeness.

Publicado pela primeira vez em Maio de 1983, o DN Jovem (DNJ) foi, por mais de 20 anos, berço de jornalistas, escritores, fotógrafos e ilustradores. O suplemento do Diário de Notícias (DN) sofreu, contudo, um duro revés em Junho de 1996, com a migração para uma Internet então inacessível à generalidade dos portugueses. A sua última edição neste suporte foi em Março de 2007, quando faltava cerca de um ano para celebrar um quarto de século. A nossa investigação procurou enquadrar e compreender uma transição que consideramos prematura e fê-lo no plano externo ao DN, à luz da dicotomia papel versus digital, e no plano interno, averiguando que leitura do DNJ era feita pela Administração/ Direcção e pelo departamento comercial do jornal que o publicava. Estudámos igualmente as implicações e consequências da transição, quer no imediato (pós-1996) – adaptação das criações artísticas ao online, preocupação com os direitos de autor no novo meio, infoexclusão, visibilidade dos trabalhos –, quer no longo prazo: abordando a frustração dos coordenadores com o rumo do DNJ, o desinvestimento progressivo do DN no suplemento e o consequente declínio daquele espaço. Terminamos o presente trabalho tentando vislumbrar a ressurreição do DNJ ou do espírito que lhe estava subjacente. Para concretizar os objectivos descritos, procedemos a uma análise dos conteúdos publicados pelo DNJ em quatro períodos distintos e ao exame de cerca de 20 entrevistas semiestruturadas a colaboradores e coordenadores do DNJ e a membros da Direcção do DN, metodologia que nos permitiu ainda perceber a importância do suplemento enquanto veículo artístico, espaço de livre expressão e montra semanal de criatividade juvenil.
Published for the first time in May 1983, DN Jovem (DNJ) was, for more than 20 years, a cradle of journalists, writers, photographers and illustrators. This supplement of Diário de Notícias (DN) suffered a severe setback in June 1996, because of its transition to the Internet, then inaccessible to most Portuguese. In March 2007 it had its last edition on this media, about a year before celebrating a quarter of a century. Our investigation tries to frame and understand a transition that we consider premature and it does so both externally to DN, focusing on the paper versus digital dichotomy, and internally, examining how DNJ was seen from the Administration/Direction’s and from the newspaper’s commercial department’s point of view. We also studied the implications and consequences of the transition, on the short term (post-1996) – the need to adapt creations to the online environment, copyright concerns, digital divide, visibility – and on the long term: the frustration of the co-ordinators with DNJ’s course, DN’s gradual disinvestment in the supplement and its consequent decline. We end the present work trying to foresee the potential resurrection of DNJ or of its philosophy. To fulfil the described goals, we did an analysis of the contents published by DNJ in four different periods and examined about 20 semi-structured interviews with collaborators and co-ordinators of DNJ and members of DN’s Direction, a method that also allowed us to understand the importance of the supplement as an artistic vehicle, free expression space and weekly showcase of youth creativity.

Background The diversification of nursing and allied health profession (AHP) roles has seen unprecedented growth as organizations have sought to optimize limited health care resources. Within the UK health care system, the nonmedical consultant is viewed as the pinnacle of the clinical career ladder. Yet, nearly 15 years after their introduction, recruitment to these positions remains slow. Criticisms of nonmedical consultant practice include a lack of role clarity, a failure to work across the four domains of consultant practice, a lack of suitable applicants, and poor preparedness of new appointments. Although there is evidence exploring the nature and effectiveness of established consultant roles, little research addresses the development phase of aspiring consultants. Objectives To explore the transitional journey experienced by trainee consultant radiographers as they move from advanced to consultant practitioner within a locally devised consultant development programme. Design Longitudinal qualitative enquiry. Methods and Settings Five trainee consultant radiographers were recruited to a locally devised consultant practice development program within a single UK hospital trust. Semistructured interviews were undertaken at 1, 6, and 12 months with the trainees. Results A challenging journey was recounted involving five key emotional stages that occurred in a consistent and predictable order (ie, elation, denial, doubt, crisis, and recovery). The identified stages had close parallels with Hopson's Life Events model, suggesting that transition to consultant practice is a significant life event rather than a straightforward job promotion. Conclusions Current emphasis on the four domains of practice, although providing a clear framework for expected external role outcomes, overlooks the importance of the internal or subjective career development on the perceived success or failure of the role. Employers, educators, and professional bodies have a responsibility to facilitate aspirational consultants to explore and enhance their internal career development, offering more time to define themselves and their role with support to guide them through the transition journey.

Interest in the influence of emotions on behaviour, decision making, and leadership has accelerated over the last decade. Despite this, the influence of emotions on career advancement and behaviour within radiography and radiotherapy has largely been ignored. The ease of transition from one work role to another within an individual's career may be influenced by previous experience, personal characteristics, organizational environment, culture, and the nature of the role itself. Consequently, the transition from the often well-defined role of advanced or specialist practitioner to the more fluid role of consultant practitioner is associated with changing emotions as reported in the first part of this two-part series. What remains unexplored are the emotional triggers that pre-empt each stage in the transition cycle and how our understanding of these might support the successful implementation of consultant practitioner roles. To explore the emotional triggers that pre-empted each stage in the transitional journey of trainee consultant radiographers as they moved from advanced to consultant practitioner within a locally devised consultant development program. Five trainee consultant radiographers were recruited to a locally devised consultant practice development program within a single UK hospital trust. Semistructured interviews were undertaken at 1, 6, and 12 months with the trainees. Although all trainee consultant radiographers experienced the emotional events described in the first part of this two-part series in a predictable order (ie, elation, denial, doubt, crisis, and recovery), the timing of the events was not consistent. Importantly, four emotional triggers were identified, and the dominance of these and the reaction of individuals to them determined the emotional well-being of the individual over time. This study provides a unique and hitherto unexplored insight into the transition journey from advanced or specialist practitioner. Importantly, the findings suggest that commonly adopted supportive change interventions may, in fact, trigger the negative emotions they are intended to alleviate and disable rather than enable role transition.

Pretende-se que traduza e sistematize de forma reflectida, o percurso executado durante a realização da Unidade Curricular Estágio no cumprimento dos seguintes objectivos: - Desenvolver competências de forma a permitir a prestação de cuidados de enfermagem de grande complexidade à criança/jovem e família, para a promoção da sua saúde, e adaptação a situações de transição (ao longo do ciclo vital e saúde-doença/ hospitalização); - Contribuir para a melhoria da qualidade dos cuidados de enfermagem à criança/jovem e família, com ênfase no suporte social para promoção do papel parental. A metodologia utilizada incorporou a análise reflexiva, associada com a evidência científica, experiência, opinião de peritos e preferências dos clientes. Pretende-se efectuar a divulgação das actividades desenvolvidas, respectivo impacto ao longo dos diferentes contextos de aprendizagem e as competências pessoais e profissionais desenvolvidas e aperfeiçoadas, com base numa análise crítica e reflexiva. A temática central desenvolvida foi o suporte social como promotor do papel parental, onde se procurou demonstrar a importância do papel do Enfermeiro Especialista de Saúde Infantil e Pediátrica, recorrendo ao suporte social como estratégia de intervenção para a promoção do papel parental. O construto base é a promoção do papel parental nas transições que ocorrem subjacentes ao ciclo vital da criança/jovem e nas transições saúde/doença, cujo referencial teórico se fundamenta na teoria de Afaf Meleis. O suporte social surge como estratégia de intervenção que abordado segundo as três dimensões funcionais defendidas por Pais-Ribeiro, permite ao Enfermeiro de Saúde Infantil e Pediátrica implementar intervenções baseadas nos recursos de cada família e da comunidade, visando a promoção do papel parental. Desta forma, verificou-se que as crises geradas pelas transições normativas ou não normativas podem ser minoradas através de um atendimento integrado da equipa de saúde, sendo que o papel do enfermeiro torna-se crucial na gestão deste processo, para a promoção de uma vivência mais efectiva do papel parental.

As admissões hospitalares têm aumentado, sendo que a taxa de reinternamento hospitalar aumentou aproximadamente 8%. É fundamental adotar medidas que visem diminuir estes valores e consolidem uma transição efetiva entre cuidados de saúde primários e hospitalares. Este trabalho tem como objetivo promover o empowerment no idoso e família para reduzir o internamento e reinternamento hospitalar dos utentes de uma Unidade de Saúde em Lisboa. O trabalho é de natureza descritiva, de abordagem quantitativa, segundo a metodologia do processo de planeamento em saúde com enfoque no Transitional Care Model (TCM), modelo do Empowerment e Teoria das Transições de Afaf Meleis, aplicação no domicílio da Edmonton Frail Scale, Escala de Quedas de Morse e ainda a aplicação de questionário sociodemográfico. A amostra é de 37 utentes, 78,4% mulheres, 100% reformados, 67,6% de classe baixa, 91,8% tiveram, pelo menos, uma ida ao serviço de urgência hospitalar, 97,3% apresentam baixo a alto risco de queda, 63% com fragilidade moderada a severa. Como resultados releva-se a inexistência de episódios de quedas bem como a redução dos acessos ao serviço de urgência. Teremos assim a prevenção de complicações e melhoria da gestão da doença crónica, processos liderados pelo Enfermeiro Especialista em Enfermagem Comunitária, com aplicação das competências reguladoras previstas bem como respondendo aos Descritores de Dublin. Como limitações destacam-se o tamanho reduzido da amostra bem como a inexistência de internamentos no decorrer do trabalho. Considerando a elevada fragilidade do idoso no domicílio, a aplicação deste modelo permitirá reduzir as barreiras existentes entre os níveis de cuidados, com ganhos em saúde bem como custo-efetividade.

As pessoas com deficiência mental profunda para além do Quociente de Inteligência abaixo da média e da incapacidade significativa de adaptação à sociedade têm associada uma dependência elevada para o autocuidado, necessitando de cuidados de substituição e sustentação ao longo da vida, o que implica a presença contínua de um prestador de cuidados. A existência de necessidades muito particulares que carecem de respostas obrigatoriamente individualizadas e pormenorizadas condiciona a transição para o papel de Membro da Família Prestador de Cuidados, observada como um processo complexo mas sensível ao conhecimento disciplinar, potencialmente útil para melhorar os cuidados prestados e diminuir o impacto e as dificuldades sentidas. Assim, a atuação profissional de enfermagem abrange a preparação e o empowerment do membro da família prestador de cuidados no seu papel, dando resposta às necessidades humanas quer da pessoa com deficiência mental como do seu cuidador. Com este fundamento, foi elaborado um estudo de natureza qualitativa com método assente na Grounded Theory com o objetivo de compreender o fenómeno e descrever o processo de transição dos familiares adaptados ao papel de cuidadores da pessoa com deficiência mental profunda, bem como identificar o potencial para a implementação de terapêuticas de enfermagem. Optou-se por selecionar participantes com filhos adultos, para que num processo retrospetivo, pudessem descrever a transição vivida. Foi selecionado como primeiro participante um enfermeiro, para identificar a influência do conhecimento de enfermagem na adaptação ao papel e na prestação de cuidados. Os restantes participantes foram sendo selecionados quer para reforçar como para aumentar os dados obtidos. O estudo evidencia que surge um impacto no cuidador perante a tomada de conhecimento da deficiência mental do seu familiar. Este começa a trabalhar a nova realidade, de onde surge um conjunto de eventos críticos que são ultrapassados através de estratégias adotadas ou desenvolvidas pelo Membro da Família Prestador de Cuidados. Identificam-se fatores facilitadores e fatores inibidores da transição. Com o decorrer da mesma, surgem indicadores de processo. Os indicadores de resultado, centrados na mestria do cuidar, traduzem-se em alterações pessoais e num processo familiar efetivo. Verificou-se que os participantes com conhecimento de enfermagem apresentam um maior conjunto de estratégias e de fatores facilitadores relativamente aos restantes.
People with profound mental disabilities have the Intelligence Quotient below average, significant disability to adapt to society and a high dependency on self-care, requiring replacement care and support throughout life, implying the continuous presence of a caregiver. The existence of very particular needs that require individualized and detailed answers influences the transition to the role of caregiver, seen as a complex process but sensitive to nurse’s knowledge, potentially useful to improve care and reduce the impact and the felt difficulties. Therefore the professional practice of nursing covers the preparation and empowerment of caregiver provider in its role, responding to the human needs of both the person with mental retardation as their caregiver. With this foundation, we designed a qualitative study with method based on Grounded Theory in order to understand the phenomenon and describe the transition of family adapted to the role of caregivers of people with profound mental disabilities, as well as identify Nursing therapeutics possible to implement. We opted to choose participants with adult children, so a retrospective process, could describe the transition experienced. The first participant selected was a nurse in order to identify the influence of nursing knowledge in the adaptation to the role and caring. The remaining participants were being selected to enhance or to increase the collected data. The study shows that an impact arises on caregiver when he takes knowledge of mental retardation in his family member. He starts working the new reality, from which arise a set of critical events that are overcome through strategies adopted or developed by the caregiver. Facilitating and inhibiting factors of transition are identified and process indicators arise. Outcome indicators emerge as personal changes and a familiar process in the mastery of caregiving. It was found that participants with nursing knowledge have a greater range of strategies and facilitating factors comparing to the other ones.

A transição do ensino pré-escolar para o primeiro ciclo reveste-se de grande importância na primeira infância, na medida em que vai iniciar uma fase marcada por novos desafios de aprendizagem que é determinante para o seu desenvolvimento pessoal e social. Neste processo complexo e exigente, estão envolvidos vários intervenientes principalmente a família e a criança, sendo por isso muito relevante estudar as dinâmicas associadas. Assim, realizou se um trabalho de investigação qualitativo de natureza fenomenológica. A amostra é não aleatória com três casais e 3 crianças, tratando-se de uma amostra homogénea a casais com um único filho com idade entre os 5/7 anos. Os instrumentos deste estudo para a recolha de dados foram um questionário sociodemográfico e uma entrevista ad hoc. A interpretação dos dados faz-se através da análise de conteúdo categorial. Essa mesma interpretação dos dados, ou seja a análise de dados, indica-nos que os pais dão valor à educação dos filhos, sentem que têm algo a dizer sobre a relação e o envolvimento entre os pais e escola. Assim os pais vivenciam um conjunto de etapas e experiência emocional na entrada do pré-escolar e do 1º ciclo, desenvolvem significados quanto ao contexto educativo da criança, verificam dificuldades da criança nos diferentes contextos educativos, desenvolvem expectativas quando a percurso escolar da criança e denotam que a criança é capaz de desenvolver positivamente. Quanto à criança, esta refere as suas vivências face ao pré-escolar e ao 1º ciclo, os significados que atribui ao anterior e ao actual contexto educativo o factor que considera protector no pré-escolar e no 1º ciclo. Após esta análise surge-nos a discussão dos resultados, sendo que de forma sucinta a transição e adaptação ao 1º ciclo foram positivos tanto para os pais como para a criança. Os significados e o facto das tarefas desenvolvimentais parecerem concluídas, ajudam a criança na transição e adaptação ao novo contexto educativo.
The transition from pre-scholar to the primary scholar is very important in the first childhood, because this is when the child begins a face with new challenge of the learning process which is determing to are social and personal development this complex and exigent process are involved several intervening’s, mainly the family and the child, that’s why it’s very relevant studying the associated dynamics. We want perform qualitative research from phenomenological nature. The simple isn´t aleatory with number of participant’s undeterminants and it is a homogeneous simple to couples with a single child with five/seven years hold. The instruments of this research are a social demographic questionnaire an interviews ad hoc. The interpretation of data is made throw analyses of categorical contents. This same interpretation of the data, ie data analysis, shows us that parents value the education of their children, feel they have something to say about the relationship and involvement between parents and school. So parents experience a set of steps at the entrance and emotional experience of pre-school and 1st cycle, develop meanings regarding the educational context of the child, the child's difficulties occur in different educational contexts, develop expectations when the school career of the child and denote that the child is able to develop positively. As for the child, this relates her experiences over the pre-school and 1st cycle, the meanings attributed to the previous and the current educational context that considers protective factor in pre-school and 1st cycle. After this analysis emerges in the discussion of results, and briefly the transition and adaptation to the 1st cycle were positive for both the parents and the child. The meanings and the fact that the developmental tasks seem complete, help your child transition and adaptation to the new educational context.

Three questions are explored in this dissertation. The first is whether the executive functions of Head Start participants are improved in comparison to those of children who did not attend center-based care before attending kindergarten. By matching and comparing the outcomes of a nationally representative cohort of kindergarten children (ECLS-K:2011) grouped by the type of childcare they received in the year preceding school entry, I find that Head Start participants exhibit slightly higher cognitive flexibility scores (as well as reading and math outcomes) in comparison to highly similar children who did not experience center-based care before starting school. Children who participated in Head Start demonstrate working memory skills that are not significantly different from those of closely-matched children who experienced no center-based care, but their skills in this area are slightly weaker than those of similar children who attended school-based public pre-k or other center-based care. The second question is how math content level during kindergarten affects children with different early care experiences, with focus on Head Start participants. The use of piece-wise linear growth curves to analyze children’s development in working memory, cognitive flexibility, reading and math reveals that advanced math content in kindergarten does have a positive relationship with math and reading achievement for Head Start participants, but these students do not gain as much on average from this instructional approach as more advantaged groups do. More basic math content, such as counting has a negative association with growth in math for more advantaged groups of children. Finally, any increases in kindergarten growth rates resulting from math content do not appear to persist through first and second grades. The third question asks whether there are significant differences in the trajectories of Head Start participants according to parent nativity. In analysis using piece-wise linear growth curve models to analyze Head Start (HS) participants’ development in working memory, cognitive flexibility, reading and math, results indicate that HS participants with immigrant parents exhibit an additional surge in EF development in the period between the spring of kindergarten and the spring of second grade, later than the average kindergarten increase for all HS participants. Additionally, HS participants with immigrant parents exhibit slightly higher average growth rates in reading during kindergarten when compared to HS participants with non-immigrant parents.

O Ensino da Arquitetura, tal como a nossa sociedade, vive de mudanças que se desejariam favoráveis e harmoniosas para com as necessidades de cada momento cultural e político. Alterações no modelo de ensino significam, quase sempre, respostas a mudanças da própria sociedade, não se podendo entender um elo sem que se tenha a consciência da intrusão do outro, numa relação de causa efeito ao longo da história do ensino até aos dias de hoje. Assim, surge a necessidade de contextualização inicial da evolução do Ensino de Arquitetura em Portugal, com especial profundidade de abordagem sobre o Ensino da Arquitetura no Departamento de Arquitetura da FCTUC, percorrendo a sua história e tradição de ensino com foco para o momento atual. Questões acerca do Ensino da Arquitetura e da Profissão do Arquiteto são, cada vez mais, colocadas a discussão e alvo de crítica, bem como as questões à volta de um primeiro contacto com a profissão ainda em contexto académico. The teaching of Architecture, such as our society, lives under constant changes which should mostly be favourable and harmonious towards the necessities of each cultural and political moment. Changes in the educational model represent, quite often, an answer to the changes of the society itself, which makes impossible to understand one bond without the awareness of the intrusion of the other, structuring a causal relationship throughout the educational history to date. Therefore, the need of contextualize the primary evolution of the Architecture Educational Model in Portugal arises. With special depth on the approach of the Architecture Educational Model of the Architecture Department of FCTUC across its educational history and tradition focusing the present moment. Questioning the Architecture Education Model and the Architect Professional Life is recurrent and, every day more, a criticised discussion, as well as questioning the first contact with the profession in academic context. On one hand, by the university architecture lecturers. On the other hand, by the students which are questioning in an attempt of understanding the relation between the academic sphere with the professional expectations and perceptions of what architecture implies beyond the school, in a transition momento of an Academic reality to the efective professional activity in Architecture which is complex by its norms, deadlines, obligations and responsibilities. This dissertation intends to contribute for a reflection trough arguments about the dichotomies found on this confrontation from the theoretical/practical education to the labour daily life. Este trabalho aborda as representações dos estudantes universitários face ao papel do Estado e, mais concretamente, à forma como este deve apoiar o processo de transição dos jovens para a vida activa. Procura-se perceber se as representações dos universitários tendem a aproximar-se do espírito do modelo social-democrata, continental ou liberal e de que modo essas representações diferem em função de variáveis como o sexo, a classe social, a natureza do ensino que frequentam ou as atitudes face à política. De forma a enquadrar a pesquisa, é analisada a lógica geral de funcionamento do Estado-Providência e as características específicas que este assume em diversas regiões da Europa. Essas características permitem aludir a determinadas configurações do modelo social europeu, as quais, embora gerem um enorme debate, se podem traduzir nos modelos supra-citados. Este estudo tem lugar numa época em que os jovens se confrontam com a precarização das relações e dos vínculos laborais, que redundam numa menor segurança laboral, fazendo com que os projectos de vida se tornem mais difíceis de organizar.
This work deals with the representations of university students about the role of the State and, more specifically, how the State should support the transition process of young people to working life. It tries to understand if the representations of university students are closer to the spirit of the social-democratic, continental or liberal models, and the way those representations differ in function of variables as sex, social class, types of education or political attitudes. In order to frame the research, the general logic of operation of the Welfare State and the specific characteristics assumed in various regions of Europe are analized. Those characteristics allow allude to certain configurations of the european social model, which, although generate a huge debate, can translate the referred models. This study takes place at a time in which young people are faced with the precariousness of work relationships and bonds, which leads to less job security, causing that the projects of life become more difficult to organize.

O Relatório pretende traduzir o caminho percorrido durante a Unidade Curricular Estágio, no âmbito do Curso de Mestrado em Enfermagem de Saúde Infantil e Pediatria, com o objectivo de realizar uma análise crítica reflexiva sobre o percurso desenvolvido. A metodologia utilizada como ferramenta deste percurso, centrou-se na evidência científica, na experiência, na reflexão crítica e construtiva sobre a prática e na opinião de peritos, com o intuito de uma tomada de decisão e de um saber que responde às necessidades identificadas. A temática aprofundada ao longo do percurso centra-se na transição para a parentalidade / papel parental. Foram estabelecidos objectivos e desenvolvidas actividades, de forma a promover a assistência de enfermagem avançada à criança e família, em situações de transição, na promoção do papel parental. O Módulo I foi desenvolvido no Hospital de Dia do HFF e Centro de Saúde de São João do Estoril, onde se destaca particularmente a elaboração do Manual de apoio aos pais pela primeira vez. No Módulo II, realizado no Serviço de Internamento de Pediatria do HSFX, destaca-se todo o trabalho elaborado na promoção da uniformização dos registos de enfermagem. No Módulo III, no Serviço de Urgência Pediátrica do HSFX, foram elaborados Diários de Aprendizagem que promoveram a análise crítica ao longo das quatro semanas e finalmente, na Neonatologia do HFF, destaca-se o investimento na promoção do bem estar do RN, através da abordagem do tema do ruído. No final do Relatório é apresentada uma conclusão que sistematiza as intervenções implementadas com ganhos em saúde, que vão ao encontro dos objectivos propostos. Foram desenvolvidas competências diferenciadas/específicas e acrescidas, assentes num conhecimento profundo sobre as respostas humanas da criança e da família, capazes de ajudar e capacitar os pais na vivência das transições, no sentido de desenvolverem competências para o exercício do seu papel.
This report aims to translate the path taken during the Internship course in Nursing Pediatrics and Child Health (Child Health and Emergency department, Inpatient e Neonatology), in the following objectives: Contribute to improving the quality of advanced nursing care in child health an pediatrics; Develop skills in advanced nursing care to children and families in transitional situation, to promote the parent role. The methodology used as a tool of this route, focused on scientific evidence, experience, reflection and constructive criticism about the practice and expert opinion, with the intention of taking a decision and having the knowledge that responds to needs identified. The investigated thematic along the path focuses on the transition to parenthood/ parenting role. It was established goals and developed activities, in order to promote advanced nursing care to children and families in transitional situations, in the promotion of the parent role. All the interventions were justified with the reference documents, including the skills of specialist nurses in child health and pediatrics. At the end of this report is introduced a conclusion that explores the implemented interventions with gains in health, that will meet the objectives proposed. It was developed different, specific and added skills, based on a deep understanding of human responses of the child and family, able to help and empower parents in the experience of transitions, to developed skills to perform its role.

Static and Dynamic Aspects of the Roman Family Abstract: The thesis deals with Roman family law, the core of the research being the Roman family in the Republican era and the beginning of the Principate. However, the archaic rules of regal period on one hand, and of the period of Dominate or even of the times of Justinian on the other, can also be included to present the overall picture of the development of a certain institution. Three main research goals are outlined in the introduction of the work to be reached throughout the following three chapters. The first goal is to define the term of the Roman family; the second is to connect theory and practice, i.e. so-called law in books and law in action. Therefore, we shall first analyze the legal rules and then compare these theoretical findings with their practical application. The practice shall be ascertained mainly from the non-legal sources of literal or epigraphic character. The third goal is to utilize an interdisciplinary approach, i.e. to use the outcomes, methods, and procedures from the research fields other than legal sciences to deepen our knowledge of the Roman family. A presente investigação pretende analisar, enquanto estudo exploratório, o impacto das emoções positivas e da autoeficácia no bem-estar (psicológico e subjetivo), em 127 estudantes universitários em final de ciclo de estudos (1º ou 2º). Com o objetivo de estudar estas relações, recorreu-se à Escala das Emoções Positivas Disposicionais (DPES), à Escala de Autoeficácia na Transição para o Trabalho (AETT), às Escalas de Bem-Estar Psicológico (EBEP), à Escala de Mal-Estar Psicológico de Kessler (K10), à Escala de Satisfação com a Vida (ESV), à Escala de Vitalidade Subjetiva (EVS) e às Escalas de Afeto Positivo e Negativo (Positive and Negative Affect Schedule", no original, PANAS) como instrumentos de medida. Consideraram-se dimensões do bem-estar psicológico a autonomia, domínio do meio, crescimento pessoal, relações positivas com os outros, objetivos na vida, aceitação de si e vitalidade subjetiva, na versão traço e na versão estado, e do bem-estar subjetivo consideraram-se o afeto positivo e a satisfação com a vida. Como indicadores do mal-estar, contemplaram-se o afeto negativo e o mal-estar psicológico. Os resultados deste estudo mostram o efeito preditor das emoções positivas e da autoeficácia na transição para o mercado de trabalho, em diversos indicadores, respetivamente de bem-estar, psicológico e subjetivo, e de mal-estar. Um nível mais elevado de confiança no processo de transição do ensino superior para a inserção profissional aumenta as sensações de bem-estar e diminuem as sensações mal-estar. A autoeficácia na transição para o trabalho também parece mediar, total ou parcialmente, o impacto de algumas emoções positivas nos indicadores de bem-estar.
The present research intends to analyze, as an exploratory study, the impact of positive emotions ans self-eficacy in well-being (psychological and subjective), in 127 university students at the end of a study cycle. (1st or 2nd). In order to study this relations, we used the Dispositional Positive Emotion Scale (DPES), the Transition to Work Self-Efficacy Scale (AETT), the Psychological Well-Being Scale (EBEP), the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10), the Life Satisfaction Scale (ESV), the Subjective Vitality Scale (EVS) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) as measuring instruments. As paychological well-being dimensions we considered autonomy, mastery of the environment, personal growth, positive relationships with others, goals in life, acceptance of self and subjective vitality, as a trace and as a state, and as subjective well-being dimensions we considered positive affect and satisfaction with life. We considered the negative affect and psychological distress indicators of general distress. The results of this study show the predictive effect of positive emotions and self-efficacy in the transition to the labor market, in several indicators, respectively of well-being and distress. A higher level of confidence in the process of transition from higher education to work integration increases feelings of well-being and diminishes feelings of distress. Self-efficacy in the transition to work also seems to mediate, totally or partially, the impact of some positive emotions on well-being indicators.

Cuidar da pessoa com doença oncológica no domicílio, representa para o cuidador familiar prestar cuidados a alguém a quem está ligado emocionalmente e que vive um período de intenso sofrimento e que implica a mobilização de conhecimentos e habilidades que vão, muitas vezes, para além do seu reportório. Esta realidade social constitui o fulcro para o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa conduzida a partir da questão: Como é que o membro da família, na transição para o papel de prestador de cuidados, constrói as competências para cuidar da pessoa com doença oncológica em quimioterapia? A finalidade deste estudo é expandir o conhecimento acerca da construção de competências por parte do membro da família, na transição para o papel de prestador de cuidados. Assentámos a condução da investigação nos pressupostos metodológicos da Grounded Theory e recorremos ao estudo de multicasos, considerando como caso, o membro da família prestador de cuidados e a pessoa em quimioterapia. O trabalho de campo foi realizado num hospital de dia de oncologia após autorização da Comissão de Ética para a Saúde e do Conselho de Administração do Hospital. Os dados recolhidos por entrevista e observação foram tratados com recurso ao programa informático NVivo 8. O trabalho de teorização derivado dos dados revelou-nos a natureza e o processo de construção de competências do membro da família prestador de cuidados. A natureza da construção de competências alicerçou-se em seis categorias major: as respostas do membro da família prestador de cuidados; as respostas da pessoa em quimioterapia; o padrão de cuidados; as exigências da situação; os processos e subprocessos e o cuidado de enfermagem. O processo de construção revelou-se dinâmico, ocorreu ao longo do tempo e implicou reajustes pessoais, familiares e do espaço doméstico, de modo a responder às necessidades da pessoa e do processo de cuidar. Nele interferiram as características individuais da díade, o suporte dos pares e agentes sociais, as condições, o status funcional da pessoa e a complexidade dos cuidados. Este foi singular a cada contexto e marcado pela incerteza e pelo sofrimento. No percurso cuidativo os membros da família prestadores de cuidados viram-se impulsionados a procurar informação e recursos que sustentassem as suas atividades para responder às necessidades dos seus familiares. A construção de competências, que emerge como a categoria central ao reunir todas as outras, está ancorada numa dimensão pessoal (auto desenvolvimento) e numa educacional (mediada pelo enfermeiro) em que as componentes emocional e afetiva, são significativas. A construção do modelo fez subressair aspetos que conduziram à expansão do modelo de Schumacher. Os aspetos contextuais emergem como um elemento determinante. A variação do processo de construção de competências surge não só entre as díades, mas também em cada díade na trajetória da doença/tratamento, afigurando-se os recursos emocionais como significativos na ação. É ainda patente o novo padrão de cuidados - padrão em rede e a relevância que o cuidado de enfermagem desempenha na mediação deste processo.
Taking care of the cancer patient at home, means that the family caregiver provides care to someone to whom is emotionally connected, and that is living a period of intense suffering - a situation that requires the mobilization of knowledge and skills, that are often beyond the caregiver’s repertoire. This social reality is the focus for the development of the present research, which poses the question: How does the family member, fits into role of caregiver and builds up the skills to take care of the person with cancer, on chemotherapy? The purpose of this study is to expand the knowledge about the construction of skills, by the family member, on the transition to the caregiver role. Our research was conducted under the methodological assumptions of the Grounded Theory, applying the multi-case study approach, considering as a case, the family member caregiver and the patient on chemotherapy. Fieldwork was carried out in an oncology day hospital, upon approval of the Ethics Committee for Health and of the Board of Directors of the Hospital. Data, collected by interview and observation, were processed using the computer program NVivo 8. The working theory derived from the data revealed to us the nature and process of building up skills, developed by the family member caregiver. The nature of the construction of skills was based into six major categories, namely: the responses of the family member caregiver; the responses of the person on chemotherapy; the standard of care; situational demands; processes and sub-processes and the nursing care. The construction process proved to be dynamic, occurred over time and required personal readjustments, of the family and of the domestic space, in order to meet the needs of the person and of the health care process. To the construction process contributed the individual characteristics of the dyad, the support of peers and social agents, the conditions, the functional status of the person and the complexity of the caregiving process. This was unique to each context and marked by uncertainty and suffering. In the course of the caring process, family member caregivers found themselves driven to seek information and resources to sustain their activities, in order to meet the needs of their relatives. The construction of skills, which emerges as the core category by bringing together all the others, is rooted in a personal dimension (self-development) and in an educational dimension (mediated by the nurse) in which the components emotional and affective, are significant. The construction of the model highlighted aspects that led to the expansion of Schumacher model. The contextual aspects emerge as a decisive factor. The variation of the process of skill construction arises not only from the dyads, but also in each dyad within the trajectory of illness/treatment, being the emotional resources meaningful for action. It is also noticeable a new standard of care - the standard networking and the relevance that nursing care plays in the mediation of this process.

Abstract:
O presente relatório, surge do testemunho da formanda no seu processo de transição de um cuidar generalista, para um cuidar especializado à criança. Este processo decorreu das experiências proporcionadas não só pelo seu percurso profissional, como também pelas aprendizagens adquiridas na Unidade Curricular Estágio do Curso de Mestrado em Enfermagem de Natureza Profissional, Área de Especialização em Enfermagem de Saúde Infantil e Pediátrica, promovido pelo Instituto de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Católica Portuguesa de Lisboa. O relatório apresenta assim, não só as bases de fundamentação teórico-conceptual, mas também um relato referente ao percurso da formanda em contextos distintos de atuação, compreendidos em três Módulos, onde foi assumido como problemática central os maus-tratos infantis. Desta forma, foram desenvolvidas pela interveniente uma variedade de ações com o objetivo assumido de: “Desenvolver competências de enfermagem especializada no cuidado à criança em risco e/ou em perigo”. No Módulo I, foram empreendidas intervenções a nível de prevenção primária e secundária, nos contextos da Casa da Encosta (em Cascais) e da Unidade de Cuidados na Comunidade (na Damaia). Nestas, destacaram-se a elaboração do “Guião Orientador da Visita Domiciliária” e o planeamento pioneiro do projeto “Mães Adolescentes”. No Serviço de Pediatria do Hospital Professor Doutor Fernando Fonseca E.P.E. (Módulo II), salientou-se a estruturação de uma “Folha de Risco”, num contributo de prevenção secundária e terciária, em situações de menores internados. E na Unidade de Cuidados Intensivos e Especiais Neonatais (Módulo III), do hospital anteriormente mencionado, salvaguardou-se uma intervenção de prevenção secundária, pela divulgação e sensibilização pública do Dia Internacional da Prematuridade e pela elaboração do “Manual de Apoio e Recursos da Comunidade”. Procurou-se, desta forma, um contributo para uma atuação precoce na família, pela promoção de fatores protetores do desenvolvimento saudável da criança, por meio da minimização dos riscos e vulnerabilidade do menor à violência. Recorreu-se ainda ao desenvolvimento de competências especializadas promotoras da transição para um cuidar parental competente. O leitor poderá, desta forma, acompanhar o percurso da formanda na busca da qualidade no atendimento ao utente pediátrico e sua família em contexto de risco e/ou perigo. Poderá ainda descobrir a realidade destas e de outras atividades planeadas, elaboradas e implementadas no decorrer do seu processo de especialização
This report comes from the testimony of the trainee in the process of transition from a general to a specialized care for children. This process occurred not only due to the experiences offered by her career as a nurse, but also from learning acquired in the course of the Internship Master's degree in Nursing Nature Professional Specialisation in Child Health Nursing and Pediatrics, sponsored by the Institute of Health Sciences Portuguese Catholic University of Lisbon. The report presents not only theoretical and conceptual foundations, but also a report concerning the way the trainee assumed the central problematic of child maltreatment in different contexts of action, displayed in three modules. Thus, were developed by the intervener, actions with the assumed main goal: "Developing skills in specialist nursing care for children at risk and / or danger" The first module, took place at Casa da Encosta in Cascais and at a Community Care Unit in Damaia, and stood the preparation of the "Script Supervisor of Domiciliary Visit" and planning the pioneer project "Adolescent Mothers" as interventions at the primary and secondary level in child maltreatment prevention. In Pediatric Service of Hospital Professor Doutor Fernando Fonseca E.P.E., second module, was structured a “Risk Sheet ", as a contribution to secondary and tertiary level prevention, in situations of admitted minors at risk or danger of abuse. And in the Intensive and Special Care Neonatal Unit of the same hospital, third module, was conducted a secondary prevention level through the dissemination and public awareness of the International Day of Prematurity and elaboration of the "Manual of Support and Community Resources". Therefore, the author tried to contribute to early intervention in family by promoting protective factors for a healthy child development, through risk and child vulnerability limitation of violence. The reader may follow the route of the trainee in search of the quality in caring for the child and family in contexts of risk and/or danger. You can also discover the reality of activities planned, developed and implemented during the process of specialization.

Abstract:
Este projecto de intervenção visou recolher todos os elementos necessários para a construção do programa de gestão de carreiras dos alunos e diplomados do IST: portal de emprego; calendário de actividades de recrutamento; programa de desenvolvimento de carreira. A pesquisa bibliográfica evidenciou a importância de um programa de gestão de carreiras que integre os três sistemas de análise, o aluno, a empresa e a universidade, sendo que os programas podem ser construídos com enfoque numa intervenção individual ou em grupo para o desenvolvimento interno ou externo de carreira. Para consolidar a informação anterior, foi realizada uma pesquisa interna e externa dos serviços de apoio à inserção profissional no IST e nas universidades nacionais de engenharia, bem como a caracterização das empresas nacionais tendo como base as reuniões com os profissionais de recursos humanos. Realizam-se 12 entrevistas a alunos e diplomados do IST, sendo que as entrevistas foram organizadas em dois grupos. O grupo 1 constituído pelos alunos que já passaram pelo processo de transição para a vida activa e o Grupo 2, pelos alunos de 2.º ciclo que iniciaram a recolha de informação sobre o mercado de trabalho. Neste sentido, conclui-se que o serviço de carreiras em contexto universitário tem de assumir um papel activo na inserção profissional dos seus alunos, através da construção de um programa de gestão de carreiras sistémico e integrado, pois quanto maior a envolvência de todos os intervenientes e a integração de diferentes actividades de inserção, maior é o sucesso do programa.
This intervention project aimed at congregating all the elements needed to build the career management program of IST for its students and graduates: job bank, calendar of recruitment activities and career development program. The bibliographic research evidenced the importance of a career management program that integrates the three systems of analysis, the student, the company and the university, these programs having the possibility of being built with a focus on an individual or a group intervention for internal or external career development. To consolidate this information, an internal and external research of services provided for employability in IST as well as in other national engineering universities was carried out along with the characterization of national companies, which took place through meetings with human resources professionals. Twelve interviews, organized in two groups, were conducted with IST’s students and graduates. Group 1 was composed of students who have gone through the process of transition to the working life, and Group 2 was composed of 2nd cycle students, that have initiated the process of gathering information about the labor market. Therefore, it is possible to conclude that the career management program services in the university context have to play an active role in the employability of their students through the development of a systemic and integrated career management program, given that the stronger the involvement of all the actors and the integration of the different activities in the scope of employability, the greater the success of the program.
