This article examines the reception of Jalaluddin Rumi's Mathnawi in post-Ottoman Bosnia and Herzegovina through the hitherto published translations of that work in the Bosnian language. The authors inspect the Bosnian translations of the Mathnawi according to contemporary translation studies, the retranslation and relay translation studies in particular. Following the survey and analysis, the authors conclude that the translation of the Mathnawi into the Bosnian language cannot be regarded as a linear historical progression because the process itself reveals a complex and multilayered relatio

Translation represents an essential immersion in the entirety of at least two cultures, making it a complex task for contrastive studies from different perspectives. Considering the various contemporary shifts in the structures of fixed expressions, it is important to recognize that phraseological competence and the translator’s skills must be further refined, opening up new principles for adaptation. Moreover, it is not uncommon for translations themselves to undergo further translation, and such instances of intercultural transposition present additional challenges for phraseological contras

The issue is primarily examined on examples of the Bosnian translation of references from popular culture in the graphic novels of the Italian comic book author Zerocalcare. Two groups of cultural expressions were analysed: national cultural expressions, related to the Italian cultural environment, and generational cultural expressions, related to members of a certain age, not a territory. The research indicates that playing games in English generally enhances students' familiarity with gaming abbreviations, particularly in their original English forms. However, students exhibit less consistency in translating and comprehending these terms in Bosnian, suggesting potential areas for additional educational support. This chapter uses the context of Bosnian literature and a case study of one of its leading translator-gatekeepers, Francis R. Jones, to challenge the advocacy of partiality among translator-gatekeepers. It begins by questioning Mona Baker’s contention that ‘uncritical fidelity to the source text or utterance has consequences that an informed translator or interpreter may not wish to be party to’. Jones is shown to share her view that translator objectivity, impartiality and neutrality are not only fictional, but also that any claim to them is unethical.
