Abstract:
Local wisdom stood as a cornerstone of Indonesia's cultural richness. Regrettably, this invaluable asset, particularly in the form of "translation products," was overlooked and underappreciated. Despite Indonesia boasting a substantial collection of Arabic religious texts translated into Javanese, utilizing the pegon script, these Arabic-Javanese texts demanded preservation, scholarly exploration, and development grounded in specific theoretical frameworks. This research undertook a comparative analysis of "cultural terms" within religious texts, focusing on al-Hikam aphorisms translated from Arabic (L1) into both Indonesian and Javanese (L2). The primary objective was to dissect and analyze the local wisdom and Islamic Sufism moral values embedded in al-Hikam aphorisms through translation. The study drew on translations of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences from carefully selected sources related to cultural terms, including books and various Arabic-Javanese translation dictionaries. Employing a purposive sampling method, data collection followed a meticulous process. Qualitative data analysis unfolded through four pivotal stages: (1) domain analysis, (2) taxonomy analysis, (3) componential analysis, and (4) cultural theme analysis. The findings, gleaned from lexicography study and semantic analysis of translation, revealed the existence of two translation ideologies shaping cultural terms in Arabic-Javanese religious texts: domestication ideology and foreignization ideology. This research underscored that translation products were inseparable from the ideological dimensions of foreignization and domestication. Foreignization endeavored to assimilate source language elements into the target language, while domestication integrated original components with local elements. This research contributed to a deeper understanding of how foreignization and domestication shaped the depiction of local wisdom in Arabic-Javanese religious texts.

Abstract:
Interlinear translations from Arabic into Malay and Javanese have been produced in Southeast Asia since at least the sixteenth century. Such translations included an Arabic original with its lines spaced out on the page and a word for word translation appearing between the lines, attempting to replicate the Arabic down to the smallest detail. This essay engages with the theme of World Literature and translation by (1) considering the interlinear text as microcosm: a world of intent and priorities, of a transfer of meaning, of grammar and syntax in translation, of choices and debates, and (2) by thinking of Arabic writing during an earlier period as a world literature sought after in many regions, whose translation in diverse forms and tongues had a vast impact on languages and literary cultures.

Abstract:
Arabic-Javanese translation is a means of communication between nations as well as preservation of local languages. This research takes interrogative sentence and their translations from Arabic to Javanese. This research aims to describe the types and functions of interrogative sentences in the books of Khudz 'Aqīdataka min al-Kitabi wa al-Sunnah al-Shahīhah (KAKSS) and Al-Huda: Tafsir Quran Basa Jawi, as well as to describe the techniques, methods, ideology of translation. This research uses qualitative-descriptive method and Spradley's (1980) data analysis. Data collection in this study used documentary and sampling techniques then the data was validated using the theoritical triangulation method. In this research, there are three types of interrogative sentences: yes-no questions, 5W+1H questions, and rhetorical questions. The interrogative sentences in this study function as real questions, for example the creed and tawhīd in the KAKSS. Some of them function as rhetorical questions, such as denouncing and denying in the Al-Huda. As many as 65% of the dominant techniques lean towards target language (TL). The translation methods found are semantic, free, and communicative. The translation ideology used is domestication.

Indonesian citizens have a low level of politeness in their communication, so there is a need to increase the understanding of communication ethics, especially those that come from local wisdom.The purpose of this study is to present inventations, descriptions, transliterations, edits, translations, and ethical analysis of communication in the manuscript Wicara Dora tuwin Wicara Temen tumrap ing dalem Sasrawungan (for further abbreviation WDWTS). The method employed is the analysis of the document using a philology approach and communication with the research object of text and manuscript WDWTS. The result of this research is that only 1 copy of WDWTS manuscript was found, namely PNRI collection with codex number NB 1090, description of manuscript and text, script transfer from Javanese script to Latin script by correcting 6 word writing, editing 2 words with a single script, translation of text from Javanese to Indonesian with 1 translator's note, and knowledge of text content regarding Javanese views on communication ethics, including (1) communication must be correct, which is the real message; (2) communication must be precise, which is message conveyed according to the situation and context; and (3) communication must be helpful, which is message being delivered contains substance. In 1899 C.T. van Deventer, a progressive Liberal from the Netherlands East Indies, published an article in the Dutch reviewDe Gidstitled ‘Een Eereschuld’ (‘A Debt of Honour’). The Dutch wordschuld, however, has two different translations in English: debt and guilt. Van Deventer meant both. Half a century earlier, under the notorious Cultivation System, the Dutch government had extracted hundreds of millions of guilders from Java, amounting to nearly a quarter of all government revenue around the middle of the nineteenth century. According to Van Deventer, this transfer had to a large extent been illegal. Therefore, he argued, the Dutch were largely responsible for the ‘diminishing welfare’ among the Javanese at the turn of the century. They should return the illegally acquired millions and spend them on the material and immaterial welfare of the Javanese.

Abstract:
The most famous manāqib (hagiography) of Syaikh Abd al-Qadir al-Jailānī in Java, is an-Nūr al-Burhānī, written by Kyai Muslih al-Marāqī, a Javanese translation of al-Barzanji’s al-Lujain ad-Dānī. However, this book has its uniqueness and can be regarded as a new book because Kyai Muslih is not only a translator but also a commentator of the book. This article aims to describe the relationship between the book and other text. By intertextuality analysis, this paper finds that an-Nūr al-Burhānī is a revision of some translation books of al-Lujain ad-Dāni that have existed before, as well as constructed by quotations from 30 books, 24 verses of al-Qur'an, 50 ḥadiṣ and some poems. The relationship of intertextuality is indicated by excerpt, expansion, modification, and conversion. The excerpt is seen in Kyai Muslih’s sounding about controversial issues related to Sufism. The expansion is found when he speaks more extensively about the issues he discusses. The modification is shown by shortening a lengthy ḥadiṣ, a citation, and a title of a book. The conversion is seen when he criticizes another opinion he regards as not valid. Finally, an-Nūr al-Burhānī serves as hypotext for the subsequent works. At least, two books in the Indonesian language, namely Terjemah Manaqib Syaikh Abdul Qadir Jailani by Moh Saifulloh al-Aziz and Penuntun Manaqib Syeikh Abdul Qadir al-Jailani by Baidlowi Syamsuri are the translations of Javanese an-Nūr al-Burhānī and not a direct translation of Arabic al-Lujain ad-Dāni. These findings underline the importance of the translator's competence in order to produce good translation works, as is modeled by Kyai Muslih.

Gambyong is a Central Javanese dance form with folk origins. Today, it is performed in royal courts, at opening ceremonies for official municipal events, as well as at other social events such as weddings, performing arts festivals, and the anniversaries of establishments. While gambyong developed within the two court cities of Yogyakarta and Surakarta, it is in the latter where the dance has been more prominently cultivated and woven into the social fabric of today. Infused with the aesthetics and prestige of the Central Javanese courts, gambyong characteristically portrays the elegance, amorousness, and alluring liveliness of its female dancers. Abstract:
This article discusses how the language translation is utilized in the city name riddles presented by Indonesian speakers. This research is descriptive qualitative. Data in the form of city name riddles were collected from three videos on Kampung Inggris LC and Kampung Inggris WE YouTube channels which were uploaded in September--October 2021 using simak and catat method. The data is then analyzed by comparing translations of words or phrases in the other languages involved. The results of the analysis show the use of one-word translation forms, nomina phrase translation, verb phrase translation, prepositional phrase translation, and clause translation from English to Indonesian or Javanese. The translation of these words has similarities with the names of cities in Indonesia. Some words represent lexical translations, but others only have similar meanings or are associated with the word in question. This multilingual game indirectly shows the identity of language users and represents certain geographical areas. This research implies the creativity of multilingual games by language users which can be used to support language learning.Artikel ini membahas wujud pemanfaatan terjemahan bahasa dalam teka-teki nama kota yang dibawakan oleh penutur bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Data berupa teka-teki nama kota dikumpulkan dari tiga video pada kanal YouTube Kampung Inggris LC dan Kampung Inggris WE yang diunggah pada bulan September--Oktober 2021 dengan metode simak dan catat. Data kemudian dianalisis dengan membandingkan terjemahan kata, frasa, maupun klausa dalam bahasa lain yang terlibat. Hasil analisis menunjukkan penggunaan wujud terjemahan satu kata, terjemahan frasa nomina, terjemahan frasa verba, terjemahan frasa preposisi, dan terjemahan klausa dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia atau bahasa Jawa. Terjemahan kata-kata tersebut mempunyai kesamaan atau kemiripan dengan nama-nama kota di Indonesia. Sebagain kata merupakan terjemahan leksikal, namun sebagian lainnya hanya memiliki kemiripan makna atau berasosiasi dengan kata yang dimaksud. Permainan multibahasa ini secara tidak langsung menunjukkan jatidiri pengguna bahasa dan mewakili wilayah-wilayah geografis tertentu. Penelitian ini mengimplikasikan kreativitas permainan multibahasa oleh para pengguna bahasa yang dapat dimanfaatkan dalam mendukung pembelajaran bahasa.

Abstract:
When the system or structure of language is used and influenced by other languages, it is called interference, and it may ruin the concept of structures. This research is about Arabic phrase construction that influenced Javanese phrase construction in classical books translation (TKK). This involvement appears when the concept of Arabic’s construction is translated literally into Javanese. The research was carried out by applying theories of interference and translation. It’s analysis approach with contrastive analysis which is allegedly enabled errors to be predicted from a comparison between Arabic’s and Javanese’s phrase construction. The data were found and collected from several classical books in Arabic language (KKbA) translated by different writers. The results show that Javanese phrase construction (as the target language), particularly, with noun phrases, with adjectival phrases, with numeral phrases, and with prepositional phrases was influenced by Arabic’s murakkab or Arabic phrase construction (as the source language). Arabic has its own concept of phrase construction. The phrase construction cannot be translated into Javanese directly through word-for-word translation or literal translation. Thus, Javanese in TKK became inconvenient and ungrammatical. Arabic phrase construction is flipped around (with noun phrases and adjectival phrases) and prepositions are used and translated improperly or in the wrong position (with prepositional phrases). This research has many implications for further use, such as: for the identification and description of the deviation of Javanese phrase construction which has been affected by direct translation from the Arabic language, and furthermore, to increase the knowledge of those who are learning by increasing the realization and awareness in writing and translating (especially from Arabic to Javanese) about the fact that Arabic and Javanese have their own regulations or patterns which are different then the other language. keywords;Influence; Literal Translation; Phrase Construction ; Murakkab

The manuscript entitled Buku Isi Warna Warni is a manuscript that contains many traditional medicine ingredients such as medicine for fever in children. The purpose of this study is to present edits and translations of fever treatment texts in children contained in the BIWW manuscript and explain the function of traditional medicine contained in the manuscript. The methods used in this study are data collection, data processing, data analysis and presentation of data analysis results. At the data collection stage, field studies and literature studies are carried out. The data processing stage, philological work steps are carried out from manuscript description, transliteration, editing and translation. In studying the content of the content, a pragmatic approach is used. The source of the data used is the BIWW manuscript which is still written in Javanese script and is stored at the Demak Regency Library and Archives Office. The result of this study is the editing of text that has been cleared of errors and the translation of the text into Indonesian. In addition, there is a function of traditional medicine, especially the treatment of fever in children. This function is the function of education on the types of fever that are often suffered. As for the function of knowledge about herbal medicines derived from plants and other complementary ingredients. In addition, it is also described how to mix herbs and effective methods used to give fever medicine ingredients to children. The functions contained in the BIWW text are still relevant because they can be applied as treatment in today's society. This study aims to analyze the epistemology of "Al-Quran and the Banyumasan Javanese Translation" (hereinafter abbreviated as QTJB) compiled by 10 translators with different scientific backgrounds. This research is qualitative research which aims to: 1) determine the background of the compilation of "Al-Quran and the Javanese Banyumasan Translation" and a description of the social space when the translation is compiled; 2) knowing the source and method of translation; and 3) knowing the contribution of the translation of the Al-Quran in the Javanese Banyumas language in preserving local languages, especially the Javanese Banyumas language. This study found that the QTJB manuscript uses the ḥarfiyyah translation method as well as the ṭafsīriyyah method armed with the Koran and its translation (QTK) published by the Ministry of Religion as the main reference and several classical commentaries and the Banyumas-Indonesian dialect dictionary. The results of translating the Koran into the Javanese Banyumasan language in the form of the QTJB manuscripts did not add new vocabulary to the Banyumas Javanese vocabulary, but QTJB took another form in the preservation of the Banyumas Javanese language by reintroducing vocabulary. forgotten words and almost wiped out from the vocabulary of today's society.

The use of Arabic script (Pegon) in the Javanese books translated from Arabic has marked a certain phase in the historical dynamics of Islamic intellectualism in Nusantara and Java in particular. By these translation activities, kitab kuning (Arabic books) are no longer enjoyed solely by the elite kyai-santri, but they can also be read by Muslims outside the walls of pesantren. The various themes of the Javaness books translated from Arabic that reach across all disciplines in Islamic teachings resulted in the rapid growing of Islamic discourse in society. Cherishing nature conveyed within the translation books generated peaceful life among Moslems. In terms of educational contexts, these book have been used in pesantren, madrasah diniyah and majelis taklim as suplementary books. Over time, most of the translated books have now metamorphosed into Indonesian edition. However, there is still numerous Arabic-Javanese language translation books occupy modest bookstalls waiting for the loyal and unpretentious readers.

Abstract:
The aim of the research is to analyze the adaptation of terminologies, vocabularies and phrases from English to Indonesian. The research was descriptive qualitative research in order to answer the research problem definitely. The data of the study were taken from a biography written by Tracy Wright Webster entitled Reflection on Raden Ajeng Kartini, while the translation is done by the author itself. The total number of data found was 75 Javanese cultural concepts. Then, the data were grouped into several culture categories before presented in the analysis. The result shows that there are three basic aspects that determine the translator in carrying the adaptation strategy with the Javanese culture. Those aspects are cultural factor, linguistic factor and the translator's preference. The aspects influencing the translation strategy that the translator carries is language and Indonesian modern history. In conclusion, the translation strategy of adaptation that is carried by the translator is actually dynamic. It is because in translating the Javanese cultural concepts are alternated or even hybridized, depending upon the translator's intention whether she wants to introduce the cultural concepts to the TL reader or not. However, apart from the limitation of the biography of Reflection on Raden Ajeng Kartini translation, the English version is still important for foreigners to know more about Indonesian history, culture and society.

KH. Shaleh Darat is a cleric figure who has a big share in the spread of Islam on the North Coast of Java, especially in Semarang and its surroundings. His father, KH Umar, was a prominent scholar whom Prince Diponegoro trusted in the Javanese war against the Dutch in the north coast of Java. After receiving religious knowledge from his father, little Pious began to wander, studying from one scholar to another. KH Syahid Waturaja was recorded (studying fiqh books, such as Fath al-Qarib, Fath Al Mu’in, Minhaj al-Qawim, and Syarb al-Khatib). Kiai Shaleh Darat studied religion with major ulama figures such as KH M Sahid who was the grandson of Shaykh Ahmad Mutamakkin, from Kajen Village, Margoyoso, Pati, Central Java who lived in the Mataram Kartosuro era around the 18th century. By translating many books of fiqh and tasawuf in Javanese, KH Sholeh Darat conveyed the message of da’wah at the house of the Regent of Demak who was the uncle of R.A. Kartini. From behind the veil, Kartini was amazed by Al-Fatihah’s interpretation in Javanese so that Kartini understood. R.A. Kartini urged her uncle to meet KH Sholeh Darat. After meeting, to the kiai, Kartini asked that the Al Quran be translated. At the call of the da’wah and Kartini’s request, KH Sholeh Darat translated it using Arabic Pegon. The book is recorded as the world’s first translation of the Quran in Javanese. The first book of interpretation in Javanese Arabic Pegon is named Faidhur Rohman. Faithur Rahman’s tafsir book is a Javanese interpretation, written the world’s first pegon. Together with the manuscript Syarah Al Hikam KH Sholeh Darat Al Faithur Rahman kept by the takmir of the Sholeh Darat Mosque, Dadapsari, Semarang. What is interesting about Faithur Rahman is his translation in the letter Al Fatihah which explains how the belief system and tarekat (the straight path) in Islam. Then what are the characteristics of pious people in the beginning of the letter Al Baqoroh. With this Javanese translation, it finally made it easier for Javanese Muslims to learn Islam. The ease of learning Islam is what gives a wind of harmony in religion.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to reveal the Javanese translation of the word Anâ Allâh in QS. Taha/20: 9-15. To discuss the issue the author uses a critical content analysis and comparative analysis approach. The findings in this qualitative research are: first, the translators agreed to use Ingsun to translate Anâ Allâh. Second, they use Ingsun for Anâ Allâh because they want to dwell and honor Allah above everything, the Almighty. It is related to their understanding, awareness, and implementation of Javanese culture, unggah-ungguh (honorific speech). Third, they chose Ingsun to translate Anâ Allâh: philosophically, Ingsun is the Essence and Existence of God. Culturally ethically, Ingsun is only used by high-class people. An ordinary man who pronouns Ingsun for himself, shows that he is involved in conflict or doesn’t understand unggah-ungguh. Sufistically, Ingsun is a perfect word that represents a person's spiritual experience of uniting with his God. This research significantly contributes to the body of knowledge on ethical linguistics in religious texts, especially from a Javanese perspective which is relatively understudied by scholars of Islamic studies.

This research aims to produce a statistical machine translation that can be implemented to perform Javanese-Indonesian translation and to know the influence of the main data sources of statistical machine translation namely parallel corpus and monolingual corpus on the quality of Javanese-Indonesian statistical machine translation. The testing was carried out by gradually adding the quantity of parallel corpus and monolingual corpus to seven configurations of Javanese-Indonesian statistical machine translation. All machine translation configuration experiments were tested with test data totaling 500 lines of Javanese sentences. Results from machine translation are evaluated automatically using Bilingual Evaluation Understudy (BLEU). Test results in seven configurations showed an increase in the evaluation value of the translation machine after the quantity of parallel corpus and monolingual corpus was added. The quantity of parallel corpus in configurations 1 and 2 increased by 3,6%, configurations 2 and 3 increased by 8,23%, configurations 3 and 7 increased by 14,92%. Additional monolingual corpus quantity in configurations 4 and 5 increased BLEU score by 0,18%, configurations 5 and 6 increased by 0,06%, configurations 6 and 7 increased by 0,24%. The test results showed that the quantity of parallel corpus and monolingual corpus could increase the evaluation value of statistical machine translation Javanese-Indonesian, but the quantity of parallel corpus had a greater influence than the quantity of monolingual corpus

In Indonesia, the text of the Qurʾan is available in nine different local languages. One of them is the Javanese dialect of Banyumasan, the oldest and most authentic among the local Javanese dialects. This variant of Javanese has an egalitarian character and is free from social stratification markers. This study aims to resolve the problems encountered by the translation team of Terjemah Al-Qur’an Bahasa Banyumasan who had to overcome substantial translation barriers due to the intercultural context. This study uses a qualitative approach. We found that socio-linguistic adaptation created significant barriers during the translation process. Certain topics require a distinctive vocabulary to reflect the original meaning and context correctly. Also, the use of a special set of words is needed to translate proper nouns. The translator’s decision to replace certain non-etiquette words with standard Javanese is to acknowledge the egalitarian character of the Banyumasan dialect in the translation, while yet preserving the original message of the Qurʾan and the intricacies of the Arabic language.

The folklore of the Salatiga legend needs to be disseminated in the archipelago so that these cultural values ??can be understood by people from various ethnic groups in Indonesia using Indonesian. In the process of translating the legend (from Javanese Krama into Indonesian) it is necessary to have an appropriate translation method so that the message to be conveyed in the source language (BS) matches the target language (BT). This research aims to investigate the translation method used in the Salatiga Legend and explore the cultural ideology that affects the translator in translating the Salatiga Legend. In this research, only the translation of the word or phrase which is related to the translation is examined. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with content analysis method. Data processing techniques using literature study, see, and note. To test the validity of the data in the study used triangulation models, namely data triangulation, theory triangulation, and expert triangulation. The results of the research are the dominant translation methods used are equality and borrowing, while the transposition method is not found. The finding, translation methods used by translators in the Salatiga Legend story, especially those relating to the translation units of words and phrases of objects, are dominated by the equality method. In this study also no transposition method was found.

This research article is about the translation of culture-specific items or cultural words from Indonesian into English. It focuses on the Domestication strategy and the procedures of oblique translation applied in the translation. The data source is an Indonesian novel entitled Bekisar Merah, which is translated into English, the Red Bekisar. The novel involves the Javanese cultural background, where Islam religion becomes one of the influential settings. This research was conducted with a qualitative-descriptive approach by adapting the concept of oblique translation from Vinay and Darbelnet, the domestication strategy by Venuti, and the culture-specific items by Newmark. The objectives are to reveal the type of cultural words that are domesticated and to locate the procedures of oblique translation applied in translating the cultural words. The results show that the cultural words which are translated with the domestication strategy are of two kinds: material culture and organizations, customs, and ideas; from 61 data on domestication strategy, all four procedures are identified: transposition, modulation, adaptation, and equivalence; and the most frequent procedure found is modulation.

Based on the results of the needs analysis conducted by the researchers at Pesantren Pelajar Al-Fath Kediri, it was found that there was a need for a companion dictionary. The researchers believe that a companion dictionary containing three languages ​​(Indonesian-Arabic-Javanese) will be able to help santri to overcome their problems in understanding the lessons presented by teachers. Learning at this pesantren uses Javanese translation, that is, the teacher reads or translates the books using Javanese translation (pegon) then he adds explanations in official Indonesian. The students copy that translation as well as the teacher's. The researchers found that most of the santri did not master that Javanese translation well, because they have different ethnic backgrounds and because that Javanese language is not be used in their daily communication, so it become foreign for them. Because of that, the students (santri) had difficulties, especially when they were going to re-study the book independently. This study uses the Research and Development method with six steps from Borg and Gall. The samples are the students at Pesantren Pelajar Al-Fath Kediri, grade 3, academic year 2020/2021. The research problems are: 1) How to make a companion dictionary (Arabic-Indonesian-Javanese) for the book Adab al-Alim Wa al-Muta'allim by Sheikh Hasyim Asy'ari, being applied to the Pesantren Pelajar Al-Fath Kediri? 2) Howa the effectiveness of using that companion dictionary (Arabic-Indonesian-Javanese) for the book Adab al-Alim Wa al-Muta'allim by Sheikh Hasyim Asy'ari, by being applied to Pesantren Pelajar Al-Fath Kediri? The result of this research is the companion dictionary for the book Adab al-Alim Wa al-Muta'allim by Sheikh Hasyim Asy'ari. Based on the assessment of dictionary content experts, this companion dictionary has a high level of quality with a percentage of 86.6%. While the assessment of the design expert is 77.6%. The test results using the T-test which shows the calculation of the value of sig (2-tailed) is 0.00 less than 0.05. This shows that the use of this companion dictionary is effective. This dictionary will contribute in development of lexicography field related to the three languages, and will assist students in independent study to understand the translation dictated in Javanese, considering that most students do not improve Javanese.

This research aims to: 1) identifying type and function of code switching and code mixing in Yowis Ben (2018) and Yowis Ben 2 (2019) film structure, and 2) determining translation quality of code switching and code mixing Javanese-Indonesian into English subtitles for Yowis Ben (2018) and Yowis Ben 2 (2019) films. Primary data in this study consists of two; linguistic data and translation data. Linguistic data was obtained through content analysis and translation data was obtained through FGD (Forum Group Discussion). The results show that there are two kinds of code switching and three kinds of code mixing found in the films. Furthermore, there are 14 functions of code switching and code mixing used in the films. In translating code switching and code mixing, the translator used several techniques, including neutralization, modulation, paraphrasing, transposition, implicitation, explicitation, compensation, and description. From the results, the researcher found that most of the data are translated less accurate. However, the acceptability and readability aspects are in high level.

The difficulty of non-Javanese students learning Arabic and Islam using the Pegon method is a research topic that has yet to receive much attention from academics. This article aims to analyze the difficulties of non-Javanese students in the Pegon Method. Data were obtained through interviews, observation, and document analysis. The results of this study indicate that the difficulties of non-Javanese students are caused by the Javanese language used in the Pegon method. Furthermore, the Arabic or Hijaiyah letters used to write Pegon Javanese are slightly different from the original Arabic, and the scientific foundation of Arabic for students needs to be improved. Preparatory class programs, peer tutoring, and literature translation using the Pegon script into Indonesian are some strategies for anticipating student difficulties.

This translation was compiled by a team of translators who were delegated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in 2011. The use of Banyumasan Javanese as an object language for translation is a fresh thing. This research is crucial as it is the first study of the Banyumasan translation of the Quran. This study aims to understand the methods of translation and also to look at the accuracy of the translation. This research is a library research using descriptive-analysis method. The references used in analyzing the accuracy of this translation are the Banyumasan dialect dictionary and linguists' statements obtained from the author's interviews. The results of this study indicate that this translation uses a contextual method with several improvisations to explain the meaning, loanwords from both Indonesian and Arabic, hierarchical language, affirmation of meaning, and also distortion of meaning that does not change the meaning of the verse. Hal ini menjadi pemantik peneliti untuk mengangkat Kembali folklor untuk lebih dalam dideskripsikan struktur dan fungsinya dalam sastra lisan. Peneliti mengambil legenda Joko Satriyan dari desa Sadang, Kec. Jekulo, Kab. Kudus dengan harapan terdapat manuskrip legenda tersebut untuk dapat ditelisik, dibaca, terjaga, dan tersimpan warisan budaya Jawa. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan metode etnografi. Data penelitian diperoleh menggunakan Teknik observasi, wawancara, perekaman, transkrip, terjemahan, dan disertai dengan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian analisis struktur naratif menggunakan teori ala Maranda terdapat 8 terem dan fungsi legenda dari teori ala William R Bascon adalah empat fungsi yang tersirat dalam pembentukan cerita. Dari hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa cerita Joko Satriyan masuk ke dalam unsur legenda yang memiliki terem dan fungsi sebagai folklor yang harus dilestarikan keberadaannya, salah satunya melalui penyimpanan manuskrip dalam riset ini.Kata kunci: struktur, fungsi, folklor AbstractIndonesia ranks 74th out of 79 participants in the PISA test which includes a literacy test. This is inversely proportional to the fact that Indonesia is rich in diversity, including the diversity of languages as the basis for literacy. The diversity of languages that contain folklore in them is starting to erode with time. The cultural shift made children no longer hear or know the legends (folklore) of their respective regions. This has become a trigger for researchers to bring back folklore to deeply describe its structure and function in oral literature. Researchers took the legend of Joko Satriyan from the village of Sadang, Kec. Jekulo, Kab. Kudus with the hope that there will be a manuscript of the legend so that it can be investigated, read, preserved, and stored as Javanese cultural heritage. The method in this study is descriptive qualitative with an ethnographic method approach. Research data were obtained using observation techniques, interviews, recordings, transcripts, and translations, and accompanied by documentation. The results of the analysis of the narrative structure using Maranda's theory show that there are eight terms and the functions of the legend from William R Bascon's theory are the four functions implicit in story formation. The results of the research prove that Joko Satriyan's story includes elements of legend which have a term and function as folklore that must be preserved, one of which is through the storage of manuscripts in this research.

Jogja in A Pocket is a book dedicated to foreigners who are visiting Jogja, will visit Jogja in the near future, and/or to anyone who is fascinated with Jogja. It is a bilingual book, written in English and Indonesian. The process of making this book includes a translation process from Indonesian language to English language. This research is an annotated translation in which the researcher as the translator provides detailed explanation to account for her selection of translation equivalents. It also attempts to elaborate the process, particularly the techniques, and the challenges the translator of the book faced during the process stage. The findings show that the process was not very easy since the source texts contained Javanese specific concepts; Javanese is one of the biggest cultures in Indonesia. There were also many translation techniques from Molina and Albir (2002) applied in the process. As a book for foreigners, it is expected to be able to introduce one of the Indonesian’s cultures to world communities through its translation.

Aside from entertaining, this type of song also aims to transfer moral values or character building to children. Thanks to its moral values, this type of song is a potential medium as a media of character learning and also intercultural learning. This article aims to propose a compilation of Javanese children's folk songs translated into French intended not only for Indonesian learners who learn French, but also for French speakers who learn Indonesian language. The research focused on the process of translating the Javanese folk songs into French. This process is an assimilation of two different cultures by accentuating on the promotion of the culture of origin through the language. The future big goal is to make traditional songs better known around the world. After applying the developmental research approach, seven Javanese children's folk songs have been translated into French: <i>Gundhul pacul, Padhang mbulan, Menthok-menthok, Dhondhong opo salak, Sluku-sluku bathok, Lir ilir</i>, and <i>Siji lor otelu</i>. Each song has its value and also contains cultural elements. A booklet and a CD containing the translation of Javanese children's folk songs into French is the final product of this research that could be used in intercultural learning and at the same time character building</p><p> </p>

The Bhagavad Gita is usually called the fifth veda ( pancama veda ), together with the four Sanskrit Vedas, namely the Rig Veda , Atharwa Veda , Sama Veda and Yajur Veda . The Balinese are familiar with the five vedas, and know the Bhagavad Gita as the sixth book of the ancient Javanese version of the Mahabharata epic. The Bhagavad Gita that features as a part of the ancient Javanese version of the Bhisma Parwa is ascribed to King Teguh Dharmawangsa Anantavikrama Uttunggadewa of the Kediri Kingdom in the 10th century CE. He is credited to have been responsible for ordering the translation of the Mahabharata (known in Bali as Asta Dasar Parwa —the 18 parwas). This translation effort from Sanskrit into the ancient Javanese language was dubbed mangjawaken Byasamata (translating into Javanese the works of the sage Byasa). The ancient Javanese version of the Bhagavad Gita contains the dialogues between Kresna and Arjuna about the swadarma (holy obligations and responsibilities) of a ksatriya (warrior) according to his wangsa (social class). A ksatriya was deemed responsible for defending his country, fighting against the enemy, as well as for upholding truth, satya wacana (truthfulness), lascarya (sincerity) and sradha bhakti (devotional service). The study of Translating the Qur'an into Palembang Language: Strengthening Regional Languages and Local Wisdom has never been studied. The phenomenon of the extinction of regional languages in Indonesia seems to have become a problem that has attracted the attention of many scientists, especially linguists, including the extinction of the Palembang regional language. This is marked by the construction of the smooth Palembang language both in speech and in writing so far many speakers have forgotten it. So it is natural that the absorption of Palembang language into Indonesian is only 28 vocabularies or around 077% and ranks 17th. Meanwhile, the five regional languages that are mostly absorbed by Indonesian are Javanese, Minangkabau, Jakarta Malay, Sundanese and Madurese. Therefore this research is important for elaborating the Translation of the Qur'an into Palembang Language: Strengthening Regional Languages and Local Wisdom. This type of research is literature study with a qualitative descriptive approach. The primary data source is the Al-Qur'an and its translation (Palembang language) and the dynamics of translating the Koran into the regional language of Palembang. Secondary data is sourced from relevant articles, journals and books. Through translating the Koran, the team has attempted to reproduce the almost extinct Pelembang flower. Recommendations to the authorities to appreciate the vocabulary of Merdeka Pelembang in translating the Koran into Indonesian vocabulary absorption.

Javanese Islamic architecture appears to be highly influenced by previous cultures, even though Islam has brought a new civilisation since the 13th century in Indonesia. The classical mosques and houses seem to follow Javanese and Hindu-Buddhist principles in their buildings, elements and spatial arrangements. This paper examines how the Javanese adapted their architecture to meet Islamic values while preserving their previous traditions. The concept of architectural synchronisation in Javanese architecture is examined from the traces observed in the temple dioramas, depictions of contemporary cultural products, and several traditional buildings. The adoptions and adaptations that appear in some significant objects such as old mosques and houses are traced back to previous transformation principles. Architectural harmonisation for new needs seemingly bases on religion as the most potent driving aspect. However, what is interesting is that in the case of Java, embracing a new religion does not mean forgetting existing traditions. On the other hand, the principle of acculturation has created a peaceful transition in architecture. Some evidence suggests that Javanese high culture, such as the classical grand mosque and the joglo house, succeeded in translating Javanese and Hindu-Buddhist ideas into Islamic architecture in very distinctive ways.

I am not a specialist on Bali. I did live in Bali for more than a year in total over the past several decades, thus witnessing first hand its changing lifeways. I am a cultural and intellectual historian of Bali's neighbouring island of Java, and I carried out research on the central Javanese, specifically Solonese, shadow theatre in the early part of my career. I spent around five years in the city of Solo between 1972 and 1984, half of that time attending performances, and the other half hanging out with puppet masters, shadow theatre aficionados, and students of shadow theatre, and organising a project on collecting branch stories, stories that deviate from the trunk stories of the Solonese shadow theatre repertoire. The repertoire I was researching was the Javanese Mahabharata and Ramayana stories, a repertoire with which I was quite familiar. I was asked to be part of this special review to offer comparative insights between southern Balinese and central Javanese cultures from the point of view of the performing arts. From this perspective, I felt exhilarated to read Richard Fox's More than words and to read how literally alive Balinese letters, writ large and small, are in present-day Bali.

KH. Shaleh Darat is a cleric figure who has a big share in the spread of Islam on the North Coast of Java, especially in Semarang and its surroundings. His father, KH Umar, was a prominent scholar whom Prince Diponegoro trusted in the Javanese war against the Dutch in the north coast of Java. After receiving religious knowledge from his father, little Pious began to wander, studying from one scholar to another. KH Syahid Waturaja was recorded (studying fiqh books, such as Fath al-Qarib, Fath Al Mu'in, Minhaj al-Qawim, and Syarb al-Khatib. Kartini was amazed by Al-Fatihah's interpretation in Javanese so that Kartini understood. R.A. Kartini urged her uncle to meet KH Sholeh Darat. After meeting, to the kiai, Kartini asked that the Al Quran be translated. At the call of the da'wah and Kartini's request, KH Sholeh Darat translated it using Arabic Pegon. The book is recorded as the world's first translation of the Quran in Javanese. The first book of interpretation in Javanese Arabic Pegon is named Faidhur Rohman. Faithur Rahman's tafsir book is a Javanese interpretation, written the world's first pegon. Together with the manuscript Syarah Al Hikam KH Sholeh Darat Al Faithur Rahman kept by the takmir of the Sholeh Darat Mosque, Dadapsari, Semarang. What is interesting about Faithur Rahman is his translation in the letter Al Fatihah which explains how the belief system and tarekat (the straight path) in Islam. In conclusion, Islam Nusantara is an Islamic worldview and Islamic performance that is have balancing about aqidah and syariah, and haqiqat then tarekat. Actually, the ease of learning Islam is what gives a wind of harmony in religion and moderation in the attitude.

Collingwood Historical Philosophy aimed to find out the development of Sufism in Java, the transformation of the spread of the concept in several Islamic Javanese texts derived from the Nawa Ruci Fiber, and its interpretation in the Fiber of Jendra's Literature. using historical research methods with heuristic steps, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The Javanese language and English are two languages which has a big gap in the lexical, social, and cultural. In producing the translation from Javanese to English and vice versa, the translator must consider a lot of things mainly the CSIs feature of the text to avoid a misleading information. The equivalence of SL to TL must met so that the audience get the exact information that the writer in SL wants to employ. This study aims to analyze the cultural loss and gain in some words related to the words in ST and TT in order to see the significance of those words to each of the language. The language used in this movie is Javanese language with English subtitle. This study applied descriptive qualitative research methodology which does not use any numerical data counting. Documentation, transcription, and note-taking are used to collect the data. This study used Aixelá’s term of CSIs and applied Newmark’s categorization of CSIs. Five categories are found in the data of the study which has ecology with geographical features, material cultures with time, social culture with addressing term, social norm, social activity and religious term, organization with political term, and gestures and habit with interjection and politeness manner. The loss and gain in the translation is bound to happen, to cope with the loss and gain, reduction, addition, generalization, compensation, and deletion is used by the translator. Along with verbs, nouns are very crucial—among other lexical and functional categories—in arranging linguistic constructions. Thus, there are many ways to change words from other word classes into nouns or known as nominalization. This paper aims at describing the similarities and differences of nominalization in English, Indonesian, and Javanese. By contrasting three different languages, this study can give another insight on nominalization, especially for language teachers and students of language. This study employed a qualitative method in accordance with the type of data collected (i.e. clauses containing nominalized units). The data were collected using metode simak for English language data and researchers’ intuition as the native speakers of Indonesian and Javanese. English language data were collected from English grammar books. The approach used is contrastive analysis to compare three languages under study. The method of analysis is metode padan translational and metode agih. The results of the analysis show that generally, these three languages use affixation, particles, and conversion as the nominalizers. English, however, differs from Indonesian and Javanese since it doesn’t have reduplication as nominalizer and the use of particle is limited to the initial position. Unlike English, Indonesian and Javanese tend to be alike and it is plausible since both are from the same language family. In the comparison, it is figured out that there are three main similarities and six differences of the realizations of nominalization in English, Indonesian, and Javanese. The results are plausible due to the unrelatedness of English with Indonesian and Javanese.

This study uses literature review and documentation method to analyze the characteristics of Quranic manuskrip and Javanese translation K.H. Bakri. This study uses the auxiliary science of Philology which is oriented towards disclosing the physical aspects of texts (codicology) and texts (textology). Descriptive-analytical method was used to describe and analyze the data. The research results show that (1) The acculturation of Islam and local culture in the manuscripts of the Qur’an KHB can be seen from the influence of Javanese literature on the writing of ruku’, surah heads with twisted decorative patterns, and translation techniques using Arabic-Jawi script; (2) The characteristics of the KHB Qur’an have similarities with the science that developed in santri; (3) Geertz's typology of abangan for Islam in the interior of Java cannot be generalized. --- Artikel ini menjelaskan tentang manuskrip Al-Qur’an dan terjemahan Jawa K.H. Metode deskriptif-analitis digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa (1) Akulturasi Islam dan budaya lokal dalam manuskrip Al-Qur’an KHB dapat terlihat dari keterpengaruhan sastra Jawa dalam penulisan tanda ruku’, kepala surah dengan pola hiasan dipilin-pilin, dan teknik penerjemahan dengan aksara Arab-Jawi (2) karakteristik manuskrip Al-Qur’an KHB memiliki kesamaan dengan keilmuan yang berkembang di kalangan santri mulai dari penggunaan rasm, qirā’āt, teknik dan bentuk terjemahan; (3) Tipologi Geertz tentang abangan untuk Islam wilayah pedalaman Jawa tidak dapat di generalisasi; meskipun Kadipaten Pakualaman secara stratifikasi sosial termasuk ke dalam priayi, dan abangan secara geografis, akan tetapi karakteristik Al-Qur’an KHB menunjukkan kesamaan keilmuan dengan kalangan santri.

Identity is also at the core of the translation project. Thus, the translator's role as a mediator between different languages and cultures cannot be isolated from efforts to harmonize the building of identity and cultural knowledge. This study investigates how the translator preserves the source text's cultural identity in the target text, based on evidence that the translation process is likewise a cultural transfer. The frameworks for this study were Venuti's idea of "resistancy", Newmark's cultural terms categorizations, Baker's techniques for specific-culture items, and Newmark's transposition procedure. The material objects of this research were the Indonesian magical-realism novel 'Cantik Itu Luka' and its English translation ‘Beauty is A Wound’. By employing descriptive-qualitative approach, a thorough investigation of this study revealed that the translator tends to challenge the target readers’ knowledge by preserving the source text's identity in the target text. To do so, the translator frequently uses loan words and the application of blended strategies, such as loan words with superordinate (a more general word), loan words with explanation (couplets), and loan words with transposition and explanation strategies (triplets).

This research discusses morphophonemic phenomena in the Javanese language in Bengkalis with a focus on sound changes that occur at the morpheme level. Morphophonemics, as a linguistic study that explores the relationship between morphemes (minimal meaning units) and phonemes (minimal sound units), is a theoretical basis for describing morphemic sound changes in Javanese. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. Research data was obtained from the results of Javanese speech by speakers. Research data was obtained from the results of data collection techniques using the listen, speak, note method. The data analysis technique is carried out through the following stages: 1) observing research data; 2) Transcription of research data; 3) Translating research data; 4) Classifying research data; 5) Analyzing changes in nasal meaning according to theory; 6) Draw conclusions from the research results. The research results show that the Javanese language on the island of Bengkalis experiences several morphophonemic phenomena, including changes in phonemes, addition of phonemes, and deletion of sounds at the morpheme level. If the prefix (N-) meets the phoneme /p/ it will change to /m/. Likewise with the prefixes (Sa-) and (Pa-), if they meet the initial phoneme of a vowel, the phoneme /a/ will disappear. Concrete examples are given to illustrate sound changes that occur in various morphemic contexts.

Abstract. Rule-Based Model for Javanese Language Text Transliteration from Latin to Javanese Script. Computer technologies today have reached an applicable level to aid with language learning and translation. These technologies should also be helpful in learning traditional languages that are getting forgotten due to globalisation. With its rich cultural diversity, Indonesia facesthe same fate asits regional languages. Javanese, for example, is declining in its proper usage in written and spoken language. This research aims to provide a rule-based model for transliterating Javanese words written in Latin to Javanese script using Unicode. The model is based on extracted rules in writing the script to make it possible to be used as a model for other similar Nusantara scripts. The model yields 96,44% accuracy rate, which is adequate to provide decent transliteration for basic Javanese language learners and is open for additional rules to improve its ability to transliteratemore complex structures, contexts, as well rules for different Nusantara languages. Penelitian ini mengusulkan sebuah model berbasis aturan untuk alih aksara teks berbahasa Jawa dari aksara Latin ke aksara Jawa Unicode. Model ini didasarkan pada ekstraksi aturan penulisan aksara Jawa, dengan harapan agar dapat digunakan sebagai model transliterasi bahasa-bahasa Nusantara yang serupa. This article aims to elaborate on the occurrence of cultural and ideological transfers from the translation of the interpretation of the Qur’an written by the Lahore Ahmadiyya figure, Maulana Mohammad Ali. The translation of the work of Tafsir Al-Qur’an is very much done from both Arabic and English Tafsir. The translation of The Holy Qur’an is the first translation of the Qur’anic interpretation carried out in Indonesia. HOS Tjokroaminoto as the translator of the work and part of the translation was published in 1928 with a preface from Haji Agus Salim. However, the translation project had to be stopped due to opposition from Muhammadiyah during the Sarekat Islam Congress in 1927. This translation was continued by A. Aziz and completed in 1939 but was not allowed to be published. Then in 1959 the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia gave permission to publish a Javanese edition translated by R. Ng. H. Minhadjurrahman Djayasugita and Mufti Sharif. As for the Indonesian edition, it has just been published in its entirety from the translation of H.M Bachrun in 1978 from a revised edition which has been published several times until now.

The birth of exegesis literature and Qur’an translation in the local language is a response of and an influence from the socio-cultural background of mufassir. It is understandable considering that exegesis of the Qur’an was a result of mufassir’s intellectual construction explaining messages of God in the Qur’an taking into account human needs in a particular social and cultural environment including with its surrounding complex values. In this case, the researcher is interested in Tafsir Fayḍ al-Raḥmān written by Kiai Sholeh Darat, for it was a fact of the prevailing internalization of Javanese culture into Islam which creates a collaboration pattern between a specific Javanese culture and Islam and becomes a particular phenomenon in terms of tafsīr al-Qur’ān. Several reasons underlie Kiai Sholeh Darat to undertake intellectual preaching to people by writing works in local language. First, the social and political conditions in last 19th Century show that that majority of Javanese people are Muslims who are unfamiliar with religious understanding. Second, in that condition, Java was under control of colonial governor that supervised and restricted Kiai Saleh Darat preaching.

We provide a translation of the notes and give a summary of all information additional to what has already been published on the species. The Javanese Lapwing is historically known from two discrete areas on the island of Java: one in the west along the north coast, and one in the east along the south coast. Spennemann's observations, made in 1927 and 1928 at Poponcol and Tegallurung, represent the last documented sightings of the species along the north coast and are situated some 75 km east of the north coast's previous easternmost known locality, effectively doubling the species' known range in western Java. At this time, the Javanese Lapwing was observed daily, and unlike at most other localities from where the species is known, was common. Spennemann observed them in groups of up to six birds, the largest group size recorded. Some local movement or migration is suggested by its erratic occurrence and off-shore sightings.

Abstract:
The Asmarakandhi, which is a Javanese translation of an Arabic book entitled Bayān ‘Aqīdat al-Uṣūl by Abū’l Laith Naṣr b. Muḥammad al-Samarqandī (d. 373/983), is to be discussed in this study. Abū’l Laith’s text belongs to the earliest theological primers in Java, possibly first introduced on Java’s North Coast by Chinese merchants from the Ḥanafī legal school. For many centuries, Asmarakandhi was an authoritative source for new students of Islam before it fell into general disuse during the course of the twentieth century. Contrary to common belief, Abū’l Laith’s text is not as simple as it seems, containing several controversial issues.

Abstract:
Dixon is one of the most influential linguists in English Language Studies that proposed the idea of semantic approach in English grammatical analysis. He divided the types of verbs into six categories, including Primary A and Primary B types; and Secondary A, Secondary B, Secondary C, and Secondary D types. In Primary B types, he mentioned “attention” verbs with all of their possible syntactic properties. The “look” subtype, which is one of the subcategories of these “attention” verbs were mentioned of not allowing the existence of that-complement in the O slot. This study was initiated to illicit an extension of Dixon’s idea regarding this syntactic property of that-complement in the O slot of “look” subtype through the analysis of Javanese language structure. Based on the findings from the Javanese language corpus on SEALang Library, there were eight out of 22 samples of verbs (around 36 percent) that Dixon mentioned in the “look” subtype having that-complement in the form of “sing”, “kang”, and “ingkang” in their O slots. In the Javanese translation, these eight verbs consisted of “mirengaken”, “madosi”, “mandeng”, “ndeleng”, “mirsani”, “nginguk”, and “mriksa”. Most of the verbs appeared in the register of ngoko lugu, as this type of language records the most common utilization by the Javanese society. The findings confirmed that Dixon’s idea regarding the disallowance of that-complement in O slot of “look” subtype verbs could not be universally applied.

Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Bahasa ungkapan tersebut diterjemahkan dari bahasa Jawa ke dalam bahasa Indonesia dan juga diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Inggris sehingga orang yang berasal dari budaya selain Jawa di Indonesia dan juga orang dari budaya lain di negara lain bisa memahaminya dengan mudah. Hasil yang dicapai dari penelitian ini adalah model penerjemahan bahasa ungkapan dalam pertunjukan wayang Lakon Wahyu Purba Sejati dari bahasa Jawa ke dalam bahasa Inggris. Keluaran dari penelitian ini berupa artikel yang akan dimuat dalam jurnal ilmiah. The idioms are translated from Javanese into Indonesia and then translated into English in order that people or students from other culture in Indonesia can easily understand it, besides, people from other country also can do it as well.The results achieved from this study are the translation model of idioms or expression language in lakon Wahyu Purba Sejati. The output of this research is in the form of articles which will be published in scientific journals. Abstract:
This study discusses the postcolonial movement of Kyai Sholeh Darat in fighting Dutch colonialism at the end of the 19-20 centuries. This study is interesting because so far there has been a physical resistance movement against colonial figures. This study finds Kyai Sholeh's postcolonial movement through his cultural approach. Methodologically, this research is included in the library research category to produce historical research studies based on postcolonial movements carried out by Kiai Sholeh Darat. From this it was found that the movement culture of Kiai Sholeh Darat in post-Java War 19th and early 20th century Java seen as a postcolonial spirit and identity, with evidence showing a tendency towards a series of domination colonial regime in various lines of life of the Javanese people. cultural movement Kiai Sholeh Darat reflects the identity of the postcolonial movement through movement literacy which is manifested by publishing writings in the pegon script and translating the Qur’an into Javanese as a form of resistanceagainst the colonial project that seeks to separate Java from Islam. Kyai Sholeh also carry out kyai regeneration as a form of forming religious cadres and nationalist and conducts education for the Javanese people with da'wa from village or city in Java.
