Abstract. The Archipelago Sea (in the Baltic Sea) is characterised by thousands of islands of various sizes and steep gradients of the bottom topography. Together with the much deeper Åland Sea, the Archipelago Sea acts as a pathway to the water exchange between the neighbouring basins, Baltic proper and Bothnian Sea. We studied circulation and water transports in the Archipelago Sea using a new configuration of the NEMO 3D hydrodynamic model that covers the Åland Sea–Archipelago Sea region with a horizontal resolution of around 500 m. The results show that currents are steered by the geometry

The Street Routing Problem (SRP) is a special case of the well-known Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP). The goal is to service a large number of customers in the city zone. New heuristics for solving a complex SRP is evaluated based on real data. This paper presents several approximations to the length of SRP using the mixed transportation mode and compares them with the published approximations used for VRP or Travelling Salesman Problems (TSP). The system was tested in five real world instances ranging from 12 000 to 29 000 customers.

Thermal motion in complex fluids is a complicated stochastic process but ubiquitously exhibits initial ballistic, intermediate subdiffusive, and long-time diffusive motion, unless interrupted. Despite its relevance to numerous dynamical processes of interest in modern science, a unified, quantitative understanding of thermal motion in complex fluids remains a challenging problem. Here, we present a transport equation and its solutions, which yield a unified quantitative explanation of the mean-square displacement (MSD), the non-Gaussian parameter (NGP), and the displacement distribution of com

We study transport properties such as conductance and diffusion of complex networks such as scale-free and Erdős-Rényi networks. We consider the equivalent conductance G between two arbitrarily chosen nodes of random scale-free networks with degree distribution P(k) ~ k−⋋ and Erdős-Rényi networks in which each link has the same unit resistance. Our theoretical analysis for scale-free networks predicts a broad range of values of G (or the related diffusion constant D), with a power-law tail distribution ɸSF(G) ~ G−gG, where gG = 2⋋ − 1.
