Abstract:
The key aim of this research is to contribute to the development of a robust and reliable navigation system in order to support the positioning requirements of advanced transport telematics (ATT) services. This is achieved through the development of high integrity map matching algorithms. In the last two decades, satellite navigation technology, especially the Global Positioning System (GPS), has established itself as a major positioning technology for land vehicle navigation. Deduced Reckoning (DR) sensors, which consist of an odometer and a gyroscope, are commonly used to bridge any gaps in GPS positioning. However, DR sensor positioning errors can grow rapidly if not controlled by another sensor or system such as GPS. Digital road maps are used for spatial reference of the vehicle location via a process known as map matching. Map matching algorithms use inputs generated from positioning technologies and supplement this with data from a high resolution digital road network map to provide an enhanced positioning output. Existing map matching algorithms have weaknesses which decrease their capability to support many ATT services. Three high integrity map matching algorithms are developed in this research. They are the improved topological, probabilistic, and fuzzy logic map matching algorithms. These algorithms are successfully implemented, tested and validated using real field test data. A reference (truth) vehicle trajectory, as determined by high accuracy GPS carrier phase positioning, is used to validate the algorithms. The integrity (level of confidence) of the algorithms is analysed by taking into account the uncertainty associated with the map-matched location and the error sources associated with the navigation system and the digital map. The effects of navigation systems and digital map quality on the performance of map matching algorithms are also investigated for suburban and urban road networks. The results suggest that all three map matching algorithms developed in the course of this research have the potential to support the navigation function of a wide range of ATT services. However, of the three, the fuzzy logic map matching algorithm offers the highest performance, both in terms of link identification and location determination.

Abstract:
The focus of this thesis is the assessment of telematic systems for road freight transport from a planning perspective. The aim is to support strategic decisions related to architectural choices for such systems, with the possibility to achieve synergies by supporting multiple telematic services. The past decade has witnessed enormous growth in cargo volumes resulting in increasing demand for transport capacity. To match this increasing demand only with expansion of infrastructure, e.g. road and vehicles, does not seem to be a sustainable strategy. One of the few approaches with the potential to improve the use of current transport capacity is the integrated use of modern information and communication technology, otherwise known as telematic systems for road transport, an important component within Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). This type of systems can deliver multiple services that can be used to improve the efficiency and safety of road freight transport. However, attempts to unleash the potential of telematic systems and make maximum possible use of the available transport capacity have been hindered by several challenges ranging from planning and design to development and deployment. Considering the large scope of possible telematic services that can potentially be deployed in road freight transport, this thesis suggests a framework in order to enable structured assessment of telematic systems. Based on the suggested framework, a set of potential transport telematic services are identified and a method for quantifying the value of the services to society is developed. The suggested method takes into account the expected impact on different transportation challenges, such as accidents, fuel consumption, and infrastructure maintenance. Quantitative methods are provided for studying the value of services sharing a common infrastructure. Using quantified benefits of services and costs of various functionalities required by telematic services, the concept of a multi-service architecture is investigated using optimization methods, which handles the multi-dimensional relations between different services that are otherwise difficult to analyze with traditional cost-benefit analysis. The analyses show which telematic services can be achieved with different approaches, such as vehicle-to-vehicle communication, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, etc. Although multi-service architectures are promising, several challenges need to be overcome, including security, service quality, privacy, and business models. The knowledge gained from the work presented in this thesis can be valuable for different stakeholders, such as governments, service providers, and transport service users, in fostering the planning, design, development, and deployment of telematic systems in transport.

Abstract:
This thesis presents the combination of MPLS-TP protocol with an integrated hybridnetwork, the Opmigua network. It is presented that the MPLS-TP protocol is applicableand follows all the requirements to be compatible with an Opmigua network. Differentnetwork scenarios, combining packet and circuit switching properties with MPLS-TPlabels, are presented. At the beginning of this thesis, are provided the characteristics and requirements of MPLS-TP protocol which the standardization of this is on going. Furthermore, it is explained how the MPLS-TP management and the forwarding plane work. Some references are also given not only to OAM mechanisms, but also to control plane that the MPLS-TP uses. We use both, global and local significance MPLS-TP labels for distinguishing theGuaranteed Service Traffic (GST) packets from Statistical Multiplexing (SM) packets.Using this method, we have concluded some results, as it concerns GST and SMtraffic. GST packets take a global significance label value until to reach the destination node. On the other hand, SM packets take local significance labels for each path into an Opmigua network which follow Optical Packet Switch (OPS) networks. We have proposed a new method for differentiation of packets from low to high priority using extension headers of Internet Protocol v6 either Destination Options Header(DOH) or MPLS-TP as an extension header. The result that we have derived is highand low priority packets are differentiated at ingress Opmigua network which GST packets take global significance MPLS-TP label following Optical Cross Connect (OXC) network and SM packets change per each Label Switched Path (LSP) local significance MPLS-TP labels until to reach the destination. Finally, two MPLS-TP path protection schemes, facility bypass and restoration usingdetours were combined with Opmigua network to provide failures for both, GuaranteedService Traffic (GST) packets and Statistical Multiplexing (SM) packets.

The quantity of problems related to transit grows as the amount of cars transiting the city’s streets increase. The current stage of development of electronic devices technology allows the creation of systems designed to reduce these problems. Many studies are performed in an attempt to find the best ways to reduce problems like traffic jam on roads and emission of pollutants. One of the most studied areas is the transport telematics, which is the joint of modern systems of information technology and telecommunications, applied to transport industries . In this dissertation, it is proposed an infrastructure to reduce the cost problems of introduction of transport telematics at automobiles. This infrastructure architecture was conceived in ways to permit the system to be extensible. To validate the infrastructure, a software was developed for transport telematics.

Abstract:
This report studies the possibility of integrating Transport Management Services (TMS) in a low-cost platform called Communicator 200 (C200). The platform is developed by Scania and is a black box that manages vehicle data, positioning, and wireless communication. The C200’s main purpose is to connect a hauler’s vehicles to their office system via wireless links and Internet. The thesis describes the design and implements a prototype of a service called Messaging that is used to send text messages between truck and office. The prototype is evaluated and tested with different web browsers in various hand-held terminals with different screen sizes. The main conclusion is that it is technically possible to integrate TMS in the C200 without altering the platform architecture too much.

Abstract:

This thesis is about the design of a Telematics for Totally Transparent Transports System

(T4 System). T4 System combines Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology with

ordinary fleet management systems to monitor and track cargo on a global scale. This

means that the cargo itself and not the vehicle transporting the cargo will be observed.

This has the advantage that a change in the transportation method can be made without

interrupting the tracking device. T4 System is not only a simple tracking device which only

monitors the transportation conditions; it also interacts with the chain of transportation

in case of a faulty situation, to provide the possibility to correct the error.

To keep the transportation process as transparent as possible T4 System uses a two way

communication and control strategy which allows, e.g. the customer, to check and/or

update the transport conditions or measurement parameters, respectively, in run-time,

when the situation demands it.

Abstract:
In this thesis, methods for using computer-based models as support tools for assessing Transport Telematic Services (TTSs) are studied. Such assessments provide one way to understand how TTSs can address problems caused by transportation, such as accidents, emissions, and energy consumption. TTSs are services based on telematic systems which are Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) involving the integrated use of information and communication technologies in transport. The focus is on TTSs that are relevant for road freight transport, even though the suggested methods can easily be adapted for TTSs in other areas. We characterize TTSs, e.g., in terms of their functionalities, and apply computer-based modeling for pre-deployment assessment of various TTSs (from an ex-ante perspective). By analyzing information provided by the suggested computer-based models, it is possible to make an informed decision whether to (or not to) deploy a given TTS. A review of previous studies reveals information about relevant TTSs for freight transport in areas such as driver support, administration, safety, traffic management, parking, and goods handling. A hierarchical clustering algorithm and a k-minimum spanning tree algorithm were employed to analyze synergies of TTSs. Synergies can enable identification of sets of TTSs that can lead to cost savings if deployed on a common platform (cf. Multi-Service Architectures). An analytical model inspired by the net present value concept is used to estimate quantified societal benefits of TTSs. An optimization model is formulated and solved using a branch and bound method to determine an optimal combination of TTSs taking into consideration societal benefits, costs, dependencies, and synergies. The optimization model also addresses possible system architectures for achieving multiple TTSs. Dominance rough set approach is used to assess and compare benefit areas for TTSs specific to truck parking. The benefit areas are suggested with the help of conceptual modeling, which describes functional models of a system in terms of states, transitions among states, and actions performed in states. The main scientific contributions of the thesis are in suggesting new quantitative models, extending and applying existing models in the assessments of TTSs, and obtaining results that can help decision-makers select TTSs for medium-to long-term investments. Researchers can employ and build on the proposed methods when addressing different scenarios (geographic or organizational) involving similar TTSs. By studying a range of TTSs and possible Multi-Service Architecture concepts for such TTSs, the thesis contributes to achieving convergence of TTSs in a Multi-Service Architecture environment that will improve cost efficiency, minimize redundancies, and encourage the establishment of standards in the deployment of TTSs in road freight transport. TTSs implemented in such an environment can contribute to optimizing available capacity, accuracy, speed, and efficiency of road freight transport systems.

Abstract:
Challenges arising from an increasing traffic demand, limited resource availability and growing quality expectations of the customers can only be met successfully, if each transport mode is regarded as an intelligent transportation system itself, but also as part of one intelligent transportation system with “intelligent” intramodal and intermodal interfaces. This topic is well reflected in the Third International Conference on “Models and Technologies for Intelligent Transportation Systems” which took place in Dresden 2013 (previous editions: Rome 2009, Leuven 2011). With its variety of traffic management problems that can be solved using similar methods and technologies, but with application specific models, objective functions and constraints the conference stands for an intensive exchange between theory and practice and the presentation of case studies for all transport modes and gives a discussion forum for control engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians and other researchers and practitioners. The present book comprises fifty short papers accepted for presentation at the Third Edition of the conference. All submissions have undergone intensive reviews by the organisers of the special sessions, the members of the scientific and technical advisory committees and further external experts in the field. Like the conference itself the proceedings are structured in twelve streams: the more model-oriented streams of Road-Bound Public Transport Management, Modelling and Control of Urban Traffic Flow, Railway Traffic Management in four different sessions, Air Traffic Management, Water Traffic and Traffic and Transit Assignment, as well as the technology-oriented streams of Floating Car Data, Localisation Technologies for Intelligent Transportation Systems and Image Processing in Transportation. With this broad range of topics this book will be of interest to a number of groups: ITS experts in research and industry, students of transport and control engineering, operations research and computer science. The case studies will also be of interest for transport operators and members of traffic administration.

Abstract:
[EN] This thesis has been created within the framework of the interoperability of the networks of sensors in industrial environments, using standard SWE (Sensor Web Enablement). It has developed from the participation in different research projects, within the research group SATRD (Distributed Real Time Systems and Applications) of the Communications Department of the UPV. Has gone a long time since the appearance of the first sensors that were only able to respond to a stimulus, to the concept of sensor web, where sensors can be remotely configured, perform actions and process and integrate data from other sensors. Nowadays, the use of networks of sensors or WSN (Wireless Sensor Networks) is widespread in several fields, to gather information, which can then be used by other applications. As it increases its use, it is necessary to combine or add data from sensors of different WSN, which is not always possible, due to the lack of interoperability between different manufacturers. That is why OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) founded SWE, in order to develop standards for access to sensors via the Internet and thus improve the interoperability. For these reasons, in this thesis is specified an IoT architecture (Internet of Things) generically, so that it can be extended to multiple environments. The I3WSN architecture is designed for monitoring and control systems, ensuring interoperability between the different elements through the integration of SWE standards. After the design, the application of the architecture is carried out in three different contexts, associated with three research projects. The first of them, in order to monitor and manage the workers' health in industrial environments, based on environmental and medical data, within the project FASyS (Fabrica Absolutamente Segura y Saludable). Secondly, to ensure the level of assurance of a smart grid environment, from the capture of the security information of all its elements, in the UniverSEC project. Finally, to manage efficiently and intelligently transport freight containers, from traffic data in real time, in the project STIMULO.

Smart city is a very trendy concept today. It defines a type of urban development capable of reducing environmental impacts, enhancing current models of access to natural resources, better transportation systems, waste management, residential climatization and, above all, energy management (production and distribution). The huge data volume produced by smart cities offers a great opportunity to analyze, understand and improve the way cities work and grow. This explosion in the amount of digital information has elevated the importance of learning from data to a higher level. This document aims at describing a methodology for acquiring and exploring data from one of the most important pillars of smart cities: the public transportation system. How to acquire, store and use such data in order to provide to all stakeholders telematics services with high added value is the problem that is sought to solve in this work. Five telematics services proof of concept are proposed: assessment of current network coverage followed by the proposal of some new bus lines; indirect evaluation of buses’ passengers occupation during the day; geofence with geographical boundaries according to itineraries; speed alert and maintenance reminder services. The results are very coherent and promising, opening up a wide range of possible future work to be explored.
