Full textThe environment has become an increasingly vital issue. In order to increase our comfort, it has led to very negative effects on the environment. A large part is caused by our daily negligent activities. Many discussions have been raised on this issue. One thing that has great importance in these discussions is about the negative impact of millions of transports that take place daily. The clothing industry is one of the industries that contributes to a large part of all transports. One reason for this increased transport is the increased demand for online shopping of fast fashion and a mature global market. Therefore, the study aims to investigate how different clothing companies report their in and out deliveries and how this affects the environment. Furthermore, the study will analyze what information the selected companies report in their published reports. The chosen research strategy is a qualitative research. The study consists of a content analysis of thirteen selected companies' annual reports and / or sustainability reports. The data collected from the reports are different delivery methods, emissions, delivery optimization and future strategies / goals. Secondary data has been used as primary data in the study and with the use of grounded theory it has been analyzed and led to the conclusion. Through analysis of the reports, we have discovered that, for example, several of the selected companies highlight their goals with large numbers, but the information that was not as positive was written indistinct. Therefore, we have concluded that they have more or less greenwashed their published report, we have come to the conclusion that many companies have the ability to influence their suppliers and transporters, but rarely have they made or reported it. Another conclusion we have drawn is that many companies have not reported the environmental impact caused by transport enough and some do not have future solutions either. Further research would make a comparison between e-commerce companies and physical companies by examining how large a proportion of the sustainability report companies choose to write about the environmental impact. Another proposal may be to compare a company's reports over time to see if they have changed the way of reporting when it comes to the environmental impact caused by transport over the years.

Full textIn recent decades growing economy with centralization of production, reduction of inventory levels and increased availability have forced more and longer transportation of goods. This has led to the increasing use of fossil fuels which in turn provides increased emissions of harmful substances into our environment. Many of these pollutants, so called greenhouse gases affect the climate of the earth so that the average temperature increases. Authorities and organizations have recently opened their eyes to these emissions and by using different management control measures they have been able to partially regulate emissions and take control of the situation. In order to determine how much environmental pollutants are emitted from transport, calculations and estimates have to be made. Therefore markets of environmental calculation methods of emissions from different transport modes emerged with a view to compare and pursue improvement works. The constituent for this thesis has been Korsnäs AB. The aim has been to analyze and calculate the emissions of pollutants from four typical product transport flows from Korsnäs, and making comparative calculations for two of Korsnäs competitors and a direct transport. In addition, two different environmental calculation methods, the calculation of Skogsindustrierna and NTM’s calculation based on NTM’s emission factors, were analyzed and compared. Comparisons of emissions between Korsnäs’ and competitors flows showed that Korsnäs in twenty cases of twentyeight accounted for the lower emission of pollutants. In five cases of twentyeight a competitor or direct transport had the lowest emissions, while in three cases, Korsnäs had equal emissions as a competitor. The size of emissions depended mainly on the choice of transport mode and vehicle type. By comparison of the calculated emissions figures from Skogsindustrierna and NTM some inequalities appeared. The differences are mainly due to different emission factors used in the calculations. There are many different environmental calculation methods available today and this creates confusion and problems. Because different companies use different calculation methods and they often differ in methods, emission factors and assumptions, it is very difficult to make an accurate comparison of emissions from various companies. To overcome this problem, a standard calculation method used by all companies is needed and this is also in progress in the present situation.

Full textFreight transport increases as foreign trade grows, which contributes to greenhouse gas emission. Sustainable development and the environment are important factors in today's society, which imposes demands on new and innovative transport solutions. One way of meeting these demands is through high capacity transports, which are currently being tested, performed and researched frequently in Sweden. High capacity transport refers to truck vehicles that are longer and/or heavier than today's conventional truck that has been given the dispensation to traffic certain areas on the Swedish road network. This study is based on evaluating two intermodal transport solutions for the carriage of goods on the route between Port of Gothenburg and Viared, Borås. One transport solution is based on high capacity transport and the other is based on a rail-based transport solution. Through a case study, the alternative transport solutions are evaluated based on efficiency, including transportation costs, flexibility and time, and the environmental impact including CO2 emissions. The conclusions have resulted in high capacity transport generating a higher transport efficiency compared with today's truck that operates the designated road distance in the case study. In lack of material, no concrete costs have been calculated for the various transport solutions. On the other hand, a conclusion could be drawn that alternative transport solutions should not be at a higher cost than today's transport solution results in. From an environmental point of view, CO2 emissions for the various transport solutions have been calculated. Implementing the entire road haulage with high capacity transport has resulted in a reduction of CO2 emissions by 30,6 percent compared to the current truck. On the other hand, the study showed that rail transport wins environmental benefits, as compared to the truck that carries the route today, emissions reduce by 80,4 percent. However, CO2 emissions in the intermodal railroad solution show that road transport contributes 98 percent of emissions. This study weighs strengths and weaknesses towards each other for the implementation of high capacity transport on the designated route. High capacity transport is also set against the railroad with pros and cons of transporting container goods. The study also contributes to strengthening and reflecting the theory from previously published studies within the subject.

Full textBackground: - In 2012, lorries transported the bulk of all shipments internally within Sweden while intermodal inland transport only accounted for 2.4 percent. At the same time, there is an ambition at national and county level to move long-distance freight transport by road to the railroad (Eriksson, 2016). Unlike other parts of society, emissions from internal transport, ie transport within Sweden, have not decreased over the past decade (Intelligent Logistics, 2016). Purpose: - The purpose of the study is to identify the conditions for intermodal transport to and from Jönköping County. Based on the conclusion of research question one, the identified conditions, proposals for improvement that can increase the proportion of intermodal transports and how these proposals can contribute to the achievement of objectives in transport policy and environmental objectives for RJL will be presented. Methodology: - The study is based on a qualitative strategy and in order to answer the purpose of the study, a case study on Jönköping County has been made. The empirical use has been collected through semi structured interviews and secondary data from reports, scientific articles and literature. The study's selection of respondents has been through snowball selections. Findings: - In order for intermodal transport to be economically justified, long distance is required, which is a problem for Jönköping County. By recognizing the conditions for intermodal transport to and from Jönköping County, proposals for what RJL can do to increase the proportion of intermodal transport has been presented. It includes both proposals that RJL can directly influence in terms of investment in the infrastructure and suggestions on how they indirectly can affect others parties.

Full textThe work to reduce greenhouse emissions created by humans is a question that is highly relevant today. The transport sector is the second largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the European Union. To reduce the greenhouse emissions from the transport sector the EU commission has said that some of the freight that currently is being transported by road must move to rail or sea transport in order to reach EU environmental targets. The scope of this study is to compare the greenhouse emissions based on fuel consumption from domestic container transport between Gothenburg and Stockholm. The different modes of transports studied were trucks, freight train and container ship. The study was conducted using an empirical case study to calculate the greenhouse gas emissions using empirical fuel consumption data. The case study was supplemented by an interview with a person with great insight in the transport business. The result from the study shows that from an environmental perspective container transport by rail should be used. Transport by road is still the best means of transport for time sensitive cargo. If transport by sea is to be an environmental option, there has to be adjustments on either ships or management or both.

Full textTo improve the company's market position and reduce the cost, an improvement of the logistics department of the company has been proposed. The work has through studies and observations contributed to a conclusion that the transports of the company spend a lot of their time in traffic congestions. This leads to higher costs for the business, worse sustainability and a larger environmental impact. To reduce this impact, a proposal of change has been presented for the company. The schedule for the logistics has been changed and some larger customers with regular tours of deliveries have been transferred from day to night schedule. This way the customers' goods arrives in the morning of the delivery day. The improvement of the logistics department will lead to better sustainability, less impact on the environment, higher customer satisfaction and cost eduction for the company, as the transport unhindered can make their deliveries during the night. The report additionally presents a calculation of costs, where the potential reduce of costs and moreover the advantages of implementing these improvements are shown. Furthermore, a presentation plan for the implementation is included in the report, as one way of how the company may approach the execution. This includes the important aspects that might be significant when implementing the exchange of the old schedule to a new and improved on.
