Full textThe spatio-temporal variability of runoff and erosion is not new fact. Their characteristics are generally estimated with a reasonable margin on plots of a few tens of square meters. With the increase of the surface, the heterogeneity of environment increases which induces a scale effect. The passage of the plot to the catchment is not totally controlled because of the complexity and variability of factors come into play. The objective of this thesis is to understand the processes of runoff and erosion in different environments and at different spatial scales, to identify the sources of variation, and to develop a methodology for implementation of the results of field scale to the basin outlet. To this end, a network of eighteen plots of different sizes, two hydrological units were used to quantify runoff and soil loss on the main surface features Watershed Tougou. The results obtained on micro-plots of 1 m², plots of 50 and 150 m², hydrologic units of 6 and 34 ha and the catchment area of 37 km², show that, both in cultivated soils and on bare soils, the runoff excess decreases as the area increases, for the same rain and prior comparable humidity conditions of the soil. This phenomenon of the scale effect of the area on runoff is known to hydrologists who still face the challenge of extrapolating results obtained on small areas to larger areas. Our results show that the scale effect observed on the runoff is mainly due to the spatial heterogeneity of soils (hydraulic properties, microrelief) and its variability (state of the variables) and that temporal dynamics of the intensity of rain just amplifies it. The results obtained in tests of transposition can maintain with reason that a better extrapolation of data from the field scale across the pond comes from the consideration of the issues of hydrologic connectivity.Ultimately, this study highlights the value of measurements of runoff on homogeneous units in terms of land use that may represent a heterogeneous mosaic of homogeneous areas. The location on the watershed and the rate of connectivity of the hydrologic units within which the dominant processes of runoff occur can allow approach the solution of the problem of scale transfer

Full textThe neuropeptide PACAP belongs to the VIP family and its primary structure has been highly conserved during evolution. Initially discovered for its hypophysiotropic activity, PACAP also presents neurotrophic properties. The aim of this PhD thesis was to characterize the intracellular mechanisms involved in the protective effect of PACAP on the immature cerebellum. We demonstrated that PACAP and C2-ceramide, a pro-apoptotic factor, generate two distinct AP-1 complexes. In addition, we found that c-Fos is required in PACAP-induced Bcl-2 expression. In primates, we have characterized a functional PACAPergic system and found that PACAP is able to selectively protect neurons against cisplatin-toxicity, a chemotherapeutic agent, by inhibiting the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. This work demonstrates that neuroprotective effects of PACAP are transposable from rat to primate, and reinforces the therapeutic interest of this peptide

Full textThe CO2 post-combustion capture with aqueous solutions of amines is the most mature technology to reduce greenhouse gases emissions. However chemical absorption is suffering from the degradation of amines mainly due to the presence of O2 in flue gases. Formed products, which could be rejected to atmosphere, may be detrimental to environment and human health. The aim of this thesis was to identify as many degradation products as possible thanks to the development of different sampling and analytical methods especially for gas phase analysis. Thus more than sixty products issued from monoethanolamaine (MEA) degradation were observed in pilot plant samples. Thirty of them are novel, they often belong to the same family as pyrazines or oxazolines, or they could be characterized by the increase of carbon chain lengths (C2 between two heteroatoms to C5).Mechanisms such as alkylation/dealkylation, aldehydes/ketones formation, amidification, aldolisation, Eschweiler Clarke, pyridines formation were proposed to explain the formation of novel products and were, most of the time, validated by mixing the reactants proposed in the mechanism. Finally, it has been shown that the transposition of these reactions to three other amines (N-methylaminoethanolamine, 1-aminopropan-2-ol, 3-aminopropan-1-ol) enabled us to predict their degradation products

Full textBy virtue of international general law, the vigilance obligation requires the sovereign power to use its authority with vigor in order to protect the third countries right against the harmful activies of individuals. Therefore, it is a priori unrelated to the logic of human rights, whom the traditional objective is instead to contain the enforcement powers of the states within a clearly defined sphere. However, an increasing number of obligations are underpinned by the « logic of vigilance », in that they require the use of sovereign prerogatives to prevent the violation of rights. This development reaches its most advanced stage in european law, in which one can identify two families of obligation of vigilance. The first can be summarized in a general duty to punish behavior detrimental to the rights, the second leads one to take the appropriate precautions to minimize the risks of violation of the Convention, when using state prerogatives dangerous for rights. The interest of the transposition is obvious : the logic of vigilance can ensure consistency to a significant number of developments in european human rights law, which do not appear to be in close relationship between them at first glance, but are in reality united by the common goal of preventing the violation of rights. Vigilance undoubtedly marks the transition to a new level of sophistication of protection by requiring states to develop an organization designed to best ensure respect for human rights

Full textThe number of adults with severe congenital heart disease is constantly growing. At medium to long-term follow up, these patients may present with heart failure or conduction disorders, which may lead to death. The pathophysiology and clinical course of these complications is multi-factorial and may be different from that in patients without congenital heart disease. In normal hearts, electromechanical dyssynchrony is known to induce ventricular remodeling and heart failure. Ventricular asynchrony is also present in a substantial number of adults with congenital heart disease. In this study, we combined animal experiments and clinical studies to investigate: 1) the acute and chronic effect of biventricular resynchronization therapy on cardiac function in an animal model mimicking right ventricular heart failure in Tetralogy of Fallot, as well as in patients with Tetralogy of Fallot; 2) the consequences of conventional ventricular pacing in patients with ‘systemic right ventricle physiology’; 3) the effects of chronic right ventricular pacing in an animal model of the developing heart. We found that: 1) biventricular resynchronization induces significant hemodynamic benefit in the animal model of Tetralogy of Fallot as well as in Fallot patients; 2) ventricular asynchrony induced by conventional ventricular pacing is deleterious to the function of the systemic right ventricle; 3) chronic right ventricular pacing is harmful to the developing (pediatric) heart with normal biventricular anatomy. Cardiac resynchronization therapy is promising as a treatment for heart failure, but may also prevent heart failure. Nowadays, new implantation techniques allow us to implant pacing devices in patients with limited anatomical access due to prior surgery and help to avoid numerous severe complications of conventional pacing therapy

Full textPhysical and chemical transformations appearing in reactive granular media yield strong dynamical and structural reorganizations. Widely used for industrial applications, the behavior of these evolving materials needs to be understood. In this work, we experimentally study the rearrangements of a model granular packing undergoing localized transformations of one or several grains. The experimental setups allow a two-dimensional tracking of the surrounding structure while one or several grains are either reducing in size or being pulled out of the packing. The average long-term response of the material is similar to quasi-static flows commonly observed in silos. The instantaneous behavior of the packing is heterogeneous in space and time. It shows an intermittent dynamic with events decorrelated in time whose amplitudes are power-law distributed. The sizes of the evolving grains play an important role on the dynamical response of the granular packing by the appearance of arches for the smallest intruders. Moreover, the presence of a second evolving grain generates cooperative effects. A characteristic distance between the two intruders is found, it does depend on the packing properties and not on the size of the evolving grains. Finally, instantaneous evolutions of local densities show similar distributions suggesting a unique mechanism in terms of structural reorganizations

The subjective and objective effects of frequency-transposition hearing aids in different levels of noise Meng-Ting Hsieh Abstract The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of frequency transposition in quiet and different levels of babbling noise, 45dBHL and 60dBHL, upon subjects’ objective performance, including vowel perception, consonant perception, speech reception threshold and speech reception in noise (SRNT), as well as subjective performance (questionnaire). In addition, the relationship between the objective and subject effects was explored. Sixteen subjects, 9 males and 7 females, participated in the study. Among them, two men were tested monaurally. A total of 30 ears were evaluated with the frequency transposition hearing aids. Counter balance and repeated measures were adopted in the experimental design; half of the ears were evaluated with vowel perception, consonant perception, speech reception threshold and speech reception threshold in noise in the following situations: first with frequency transposition function on or off, randomized in a quiet, 45dBHL and 60dBHL of babbling noise. The questionnaire was filled out immediately after every objective evaluation. The results were as follows: 1. With the enabling of frequency transposition function, vowel perception performance was not improved in every test condition (P>.05). 2. While enabling the frequency transposition function in loud level of babbling noise (60dBHL), the performance of consonant perception measurement was improved (p<.05), but was not significant (P>.05) in soft level of babbling noise (45dBHL). 3. With the frequency transposition function enabled, the subjects were able to lower their speech reception thresholds and to reduce SRTN in every test condition. 4. The effect of frequency transposition function in loud and soft levels did indicate in the objective measurement, except for SRTN in soft level of babbling noise (45dBHL). 5. Whether transposition function on or off, the performance of subjective and objective was significantly better in the soft level of noise than in the loud level (p<.05). 6. In every test condition, the correlation of the same set of objective and subjective measurements did not reach the level of significance (p>.05).

The penetration levels of PV systems in a distribution system are often limited by the violation of voltage variation introduced by the large intermittent power generation. This paper investigates the penetration levels of PV systems in distribution feeders by taking into account the mutual coupling effect among phase conductors. The increase of the allowable PV penetration by executing transposition of phase conductors to improve the three phase balancing is also analyzed. The equivalent circuit models for three-phase, two-phase and single-phase conductors including the earthing effect and the mutual coupling between phase conductors and grounding wire are applied in the computer simulation. A practical Taipower distribution feeder is selected for system analysis to solve the maximum PV penetration with the proposed precise modeling of a feeder network. It is found that the maximum penetration level of considering mutual coupling effect is less than that of without considering mutual coupling effect.

In recent years, many enterprises implement the ERP system to enhance the company's benefits. The implement process has hidden many different success factors and failure factors. In the process of implement ERP need to use communication to transfer industry knowhow. The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between the factors of social exchange theory and knowledge transposition, and the relationship between knowledge transfer performance and ERP implement performance influenced by social exchange theory. Total questionnaires have 315, and 310 were valid questionnaires. Data were analyzed by SPSS and the PLS Algorithm of smart PLS and the bootstrapping. The five-hypothesis proposed in this study are significant. Results of this study showed that the factor of communication is very important in the process of implementing ERP. Communication facets had significant effects the facets of interaction quality and affects. The facets of influence and the interaction quality had significant effects the knowledge transfer facets. And the knowledge transfer facets had significant effects the ERP implement performance. As a result, when enterprise was implementing ERP system, enterprise had to keep the implement team and ERP consultants remaining good communication and interaction quality, and improve the influence on each other, and keep the performance of knowledge transfer good. When the knowledge of enterprise and ERP consultant was delivering smoothly, it could enhance the success rate of ERP implement and performance.
Rego, Adriana Mana Rocha.
Recent studies focused on letter transposition effect (i.e., faster reaction times and accuracy responses for targets preceded by transposed-letter primes rather than for targets preceded by orthographic control primes, e.g., jugde-JUDGE < jupte-JUDGE) showed that in visual word recognition, letter codification didn’t occur at a specific letter position, at least when participant recognize words from their native language (L1). However, the extent to which this type of codification also occurs during the visual word recognition in a second language (L2) and across languages (L1-L2), it has not been fully examined despite of being a key issue for the front-end of the leading models of bilingual visual word recognition (e.g., BIA+ model), that assumes a location-specific letter coding. The present dissertation aimed to study transposition effects in the visual word recognition in the same language (L1: Experiment 1; L2: Experiment 2) and across languages (L1-L2: Experiment 3) in Portuguese– English bilinguals, using a masked priming lexical decision task. The results revealed that although participants showed faster reaction times and more accurate responses for targets preceded by TL primes rather than for targets preceded by orthographic control primes (i.e., letter transposition effects), these differences didn’t reached significance.
