Gender Identity Disorder (GID) is a condition characterized by a strong and persistent identification with the opposite sex. These people consider themselves victims of a sort of biological accident: “a soul in a wrong body”. There are numerous theories on the origin of transsexualism: genetic, hormonal and psychological causes have been hypothesized, but those currently most accredited are the neuroanatomical ones. The cornerstones of hormone conversion therapy (Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy, GAHT) are feminizing hormones for transgender women (MtFs or AMAB: Assigned Male at Birth) and vir

Hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is a part of gender reassignment surgery for the treatment of female-to-male transsexualism. Over the last years many efforts were made in order to reduce invasiveness of laparoscopic and robotic surgery such as the introduction of single-site approach. We report our preliminary experience on single-site robotic hysterectomy for cross-sex reassignment surgery. Our data suggest that single-site robotic hysterectomy is feasible and safe in female-to-male transsexualism with some benefits in terms of postoperative pain and aesthetic results.

Abstract:
Three groups of male transsexuals at different stages of the treatment process were examined and shown to match retrospectively in actuarial and psychiatric data. Transsexuals who were on a waiting list for surgery showed lower neurotic scores on the Crown–Crisp Experiential Index than those at the assessment stage of clinic attendance, while post-operative transsexuals obtained scores lower than either of the other groups. Transsexuals during the assessment stage of treatment obtained the lowest scores on items in the Bern Sex Role Inventory that define stereotypical masculine characteristics
