Abstract:
Anisotropic thermoelectric effects can be measured in certain materials. Anisotropy can also be simulated using a repeated, layered structure of two materials cut at an angle. Various aspect ratios and angles of inclination are investigated in device geometry in order to maximize the thermopower. Eddy currents have been shown to occur in thermoelectric devices, and evidence of these currents are revealed in finite element analysis of the artificially synthesized anisotropic Peltier effect.

Sinusoidal modulation of the pump power offers an efficient method for producing energetic output pulses of a few microseconds duration. Both experiments make use of the high quality, highly polarized electron beam available at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Abstract:
Cette thèse présente la recherche de nouvelle physique avec un état final contenant un seul photon et de l'énergie transverse manquante. On recherche la matière sombre (ou noire) et la signature de particules supersymétriques. L'analyse des données collectées par le détecteur ATLAS au LHC, issues de collisions proton-proton dont l'énergie dans le centre de masse est de 8 TeV, est faite avec une luminosité intégrée de 20.3fb−1. L'accord entre les données mesurées et les prédictions du modèle standard permet d'établir une limite sur la section effi- cace de production mesurable

A series of experimental results about unusual heating of carbon nanotubes by microwaves is analyzed in this dissertation. Two of vibration types, cantilever type (one end is fixed and the other one end is free), the second type is both ends are fixed, have been studied by other people. A third type of forced vibration of carbon nanotubes under an alternating electromagnetic field is examined in this paper. Heating of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by microwaves is described in terms of nonlinear dynamics of a vibrating nanotube. Results from the model provide a way to understand several observations
