Full textThe objective of this research is to describe and analyze the relationship between parental stress levels and styles/strategies of coping in parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their relationship according to some sociodemographic data. The sample consisted of 58 parents whose children went to one of the five modules of an institution for child development. They completed a questionnaire to measure parental stress (PSI-SF) and another to identify the coping styles and strategies more employees (COPE). We found high levels of parental stress in both the total scale and its three domains. The parental distress domain correlated positively with suppression strategies relevant activities, behavioral disengagement and denial, while the correlation was negative with the strategy seeking social support for emotional reasons. On the other hand, the domain dysfunctional parent-child interaction positively correlated with behavioral disengagement strategy and negatively with the acceptance strategy. Finally, the domain related stress of child care was a positive correlation with behavioral disengagement and denial strategy, but negatively correlated with seeking social support for instrumental reasons. Finally, we found significant differences in the levels of parental stress and coping styles according to the module that the participants were attending. So those who go to San Juan de Miraflores reported lower levels of parental stress and further used coping styles focused on the emotion and the problem when compared with the other four modules.

Full textThe Questionnaire of Sociocultural Influences on the Aesthetic Body Shape Model was designed in an attempt to measure the influence of the agents and situations that transmit the actual aesthetic model. The present study aims to adapt the questionnaire using a sample composed of 414 girls, 14 to 18 years old, from both private and public high schools. The Cronbach’s alpha was = .93, which confirms that the CIMEC questionnaire shows satisfactory internal consistency. Four factors were extracted after a factorial analysis and oblimin rotation. These factors explained 49.21% of the total variance. Factor I is significantly loaded (= .92) containing eleven items that can be identified as Advertising Influence. Factor II contains eight items that show anxiety in situations that question the body itself, and was called Distress Because of Body Image (= .84). Factor III contains nine questions related to Influence of social models and situations (= .79). Finally, Factor IV contains four items regarding the Influence of Verbal Messages (= .68).

Full textThe principal aim of this study was to identify the association between emotional regulation and coping skills in a sample of 50 women outpatients diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Additionally, this study searched for differences between ages and length of treatment among the sample. These aims were achieved using the Emotional Regulation Questionnaire and the COPE Inventory. The results showed a correlation between problem-focused and emotion-focused coping, and cognitive reevaluation. They also showed a correlation between other coping strategies and suppression. More specifically, the study found that as patients age they make more use of problem-focused and emotion-focused coping, as well as reevaluation. On the other hand, there were no significant results regarding the length of treatment associated to emotional regulation and coping.

Full textA comprehensive evaluation of speech and language puts a lot of stress on the patient with a cerebral lesion. The battery Bedside of Language (BL) is short in duration and it is designed to presume a diagnosis of aphasia in patients with cerebral lesions. The present applied research is directed to validate the battery Bedside of Language in an urban population of adults from Peru (18-89 years old). The items were analyzed with U de Mann Whitney, for comparison, and rho de Spearman for correlations. The validity was determined by judges’ expert criteria and the Spearman-Brown Split half coefficient. A total of 100 subjects were evaluated using the battery BL and five linguistic dimensions were evaluated which were: spontaneous language, comprehension, repetition, writing and lecture. The maximum possible score is 26 with the cut-off score very well established. It was found that the battery BL has high feasibility and internal consistency. Alpha de Crombach for all the linguistic dimensions aforementioned was 0,956. Also when comparing the total of each scale with the grand total of the BL, subjects with presumed diagnosis of aphasia versus subjects with no diagnosis of aphasia; the U de Mann Whitney fluctuated between 5.287 and 6.706 which was highly significant and shows an excellent criterion-related validity as well. The results indicated that the battery BL is a potentially useful tool for predicting aphasia and sensible to the changes in the acute stages of language disorders.

Full textThe fundamental purpose of this study is to fully translate the Bedside language battery to Southern Quechua, for its application on Quechua-speaking aphasic patients. The goal of this document is to achieve aphasia detection in Quechuaspeakers with brain injuries. This battery evaluates five fields, whichwere adapted in order to achieve a correct translation, which was carried out by profesional, government-authorized translators. In order to verify the fidelity of this translation, the test was given to a total of 372 Quechua-speakers. Afterwards, we tested four Quechua-speaking aphasic patients, obtaining the same results as their previous diagnostics. The results prove that the test is intelligible in its entirety, since none of the translated fields were scrutinized by the judges. Therefore, we make this instrument available for its application on Quechua-speaking aphasic patients.

Full textThe purpose of this research is to describe the relationship between anxiety and coping, as well as to explore their possible differences according to sociodemographic variables obtained. The number of participants is 43 people with different levels of stuttering, between 18 and 34 years, belonging to a particular association of stuttering in Lima. The tests used were Anxiety Inventory: State - Trait (STAI) and the Multidimensional Inventory of Coping Estimation (COPE-60) in the adapted version of Cassaretto and Chau (2016). The results showed that the AR scale showed a direct relationship with the coping strategy, focus and release emotions, and an inverse relationship with the strategies, positive reinterpretation and growth, and acceptance; while, the AE scale was significantly related to the focus and release emotions strategy. Also, inverse correlations were found between the sociodemographic variable age and the AR scale, as well as with the coping strategy focusing and releasing emotions. On the other hand, significant differences were reported between the sociodemographic variable sex and the denial coping strategy, and the type of therapy variable and the religious coping strategy. From the study, it is concluded that anxiety is a factor underlying stuttering, as it implies negative emotions such as fear, embarrassment, frustration or anger, ultimately causing an anxiety disorder. In addition, it can lead to forms of non-adaptive coping that could affect personal growth. Finally, it is important to recognize the value of therapy directed by a stuttering psychologist and / or specialist in stuttering, since it can provide the patient with sufficient tools to deal with both stuttering, emotions and thoughts involved.

"Adaptación psicométrica del Preschool Language Scales-5 Spanish Screening test en niños de 4 y 5 años de instituciones de gestión pública y privada del distrito de Santiago de Surco." Master's thesis, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12404/19585.
Full textIn our country, children represent a large part of the population and during these first years it is very important to observe how thus language acquisition process develops. There are different tests to know and measure linguistic development in these ages, however, these tests have been designed considering cultural and linguistic criteria of the place where they were created. The aim of this study is to psychometrically adapt the Preschool Language Screening-5 Spanish Screening Test (PLS-5 Spanish Screening Test) to identify children who require a deep language assesment so they can have a diagnosis and timely intervention. This investigation is of a quantitative approach, of a descriptive type and with a simple descriptive design. The Preschool Language Screening-5 Spanish Screening Adapted Test was applied to 134 children from 4 years to 5 years 11 months, from educational institutions of public and private management of the district of Santiago de Surco. The test went through an evaluation of judges, after the modification of the items to validate the changes made and the data obtained passed a statistical analysis to determine the reliability of the adapted test. It is concluded that the adapted version fulfills the characteristics of validity and reliability, increasing its effectiveness for the identification of children of 4 and 5 years of the district of Santiago de Surco at risk of having a difficulty in the development of language.

Full textThe main objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between coping strategies and psychological well-being, global and by dimensions in a sample of 49 mothers, between 23 and 57 years old (M=36.1; DE=7). The participant had kids between 3 and 10 years old diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that were attending an institution specialized in child development placed in Lima- Metropolitana. Multidimensional Coping Estimation Questionnaire COPE, adapted by Cassaretto and Chau (2016) and the Psychological Well-Being Scale, adapted by Cubas (2003) were used. There were thirteen significant correlations between some coping strategies and psychological well-being, global and by dimensions. One of the thirteen correlations was low and the rest were moderate. Likewise, the results indicated that the time post diagnosis variable was correlated in a positive and moderate way (r=.35, p<.05) with positive reinterpretation and growth, and in a positive and low way (r=.29, p=.04) with autonomy. Finally, there was found that Mothers with support had a higher score in global psychological well-being, environmental mastering and in self-acceptance. The results demonstrate that planning, restraint coping, positive reinterpretation, emotional support and mental and behavioral disengagement play an important role in the psychological wellbeing of mothers with autism diagnosis children. It also shows that mothers who has a longer period of time informed of the diagnosis may perceive the adversities as an opportunity to grow in a personal way and might have more autonomy in decisions making.

Full textThe present study investigated the relationship between parental stress levels and optimism levels in a group of 33 parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who assisted to an education center specialized in the management of autism spectrum disorder, considering the influence of socio-demographic factors (age, sex, etc.) and disease factors (psychological treatment and medication). They completed a questionnaire to measure parental stress (PSI-SF) and another to identify their predominant orientation to life (optimism or pessimism) (LOT-R). We found high levels of parental stress in both the total scale and each of their domains. The parents from Lima had a higher level of stress to assess their expectations about the achievements of their children and the reinforcements they receive from them in their roles as caregivers. Also, the parents of daughters felt more concern about their ability to control the behavior of their children. On the other hand, about the orientation in life, it was found that a higher percentage of parents have low optimism. Finally, the overall degree of perceived parental optimism correlates positively with the area of Dysfunctional Parent-Child Interaction and with the total score of parental stress in the sample.

Full textThe objective of this study was to examine the adaptation process of parents of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The qualitative research method was used with a phenomenological design. Likewise, a semi-structured interview was conducted for the collection of information and the ABCX Double Model as an analysis strategy, organizing the information in thematic axes. For this investigation, seven parents (five mothers and two fathers) participated, who had a son diagnosed with ASD and who attended a specialized institution. The results reveal that parents of children with ASD present a series of feelings and attitudes towards the diagnosis (e.g., sadness, frustration, uncertainty, stress). However, such feelings were closely related to the opportunities to obtain appropriate professional attention, as well as adequate information regarding the ASD. In addition, the participants highlighted the importance of having sources of social support. It is concluded that the ABCX Double Family Adaptation Model is a useful model to examine this process. Also, it is concluded that it is necessary to provide the population with adequate information regarding the ASD, as well as specialized professional attention. The purpose of this is to facilitate the process of family adaptation and therefore promote the general well-being of people within Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.

Full textDecision-making in the healthcare setting is an intrinsic aspect of healthcare practise. In healthcare provision patients need to intervene and make themselves heard in relation to decisions concerning their health while practitioners seek to safeguard their health. Analysing how the decision-making process is conducted is crucial to enhancing the quality of care and upholding the respect which every ill person has when they need to consent to a particular treatment or intervention. The situation becomes trickier when the person is admitted to a hospital facility to restore or stabilise their health. In these settings exercising autonomy becomes more tenuous due to the very dynamics of these facilities, the pressure to discharge patients, action protocols, etc. The core of the thesis focuses on two key areas. Firstly it looks at the bioethical approach to decision-making in patients admitted to a subacute unit in a social-health facility with difficulties in swallowing solid or liquid foods (dysphagia) and who need dietary adaptations to avoid medical complications. Secondly it analyses follow-up of the dietary guidelines agreed between the speech therapist and the patient and their family for when they return to their usual residence. Based on a wide-ranging theoretical approach to the topic and taking a broad view of health, it explores the ethical conflicts which arise when a patient with deglutition difficulties needs adaptations to their diet to avoid putting their health at risk. Aspects such as decision-making, degree of autonomy, competence and treatment rejection are factors to be examined in order to gain an in-depth understanding of situations and foster shared decision-making. The theoretical block is supplemented by an empirical one which presents instruments designed to facilitate care and decision-making for patients with deglutition difficulties who need adaptations to their diet as well as follow-up of the therapeutic indications given when the patient returns to their usual residence.
Pallero, Castillo Mercedes. "Ventilación mecánica no invasiva domiciliaria: adaptación y seguimiento." Doctoral thesis, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/327311.
Full textChest wall and neuromuscular diseases are common disorders which account for a major cause of hypercapnic chronic respiratory failure. Noninvasive home mechanical ventilation (NIHMV) is considered the treatment of choice in these patients when respiratory failure is well established. Adaptation process to NIHMV can be performed either in the hospital setting or ambulatory. Because few studies have evaluated the superiority of one setting over another for adapting to NIHMV, the choice has been based on the preferences or possibilities of each team of health professionals. Other essential factors of major interest, but poorly studied, are the long-term evolution of patients with NIHMV and variables associated with mortality. This thesis main objectives were to compare the effectiveness and costs of adaptation to NIHMV performed in the ambulatory or hospital setting in patients with chronic respiratory failure secondary to neuromuscular diseases or chest wall disorders. Another objective was to analyze mortality and prognostic factors of a cohort of patients with chest wall disease following NIHMV. In this thesis, two studies were conducted, a multicenter randomized clinical trial that evaluated the effectiveness using partial pressure of carbon dioxide in arterial blood (PaCO2) baseline and at six months following initiation of NIHMV in each adaptation group (outpatient and inpatient), as well as economic costs for each group. The second study was a prospective observational study that analyzed mortality, and its possible associated variables, in a cohort of patients with NIHMV. Both studies main results were that adaptation to NIHMV in the ambulatory setting is not inferior to hospital adaptation in terms of therapeutic equivalence in stable patients with chronic respiratory failure secondary to neuromuscular or chest wall diseases, and outpatient adaptation may represent a cost saving for the healthcare system. In addition, PaCO2 levels higher or equal to 50 mmHg at one month after starting NIHMV and the presence of comorbid conditions are risk factors for mortality in patients with chronic respiratory failure secondary to chest wall disease. As a conclusion, in routine clinical practice, outpatient adaptation to NIHMV remains an option to be considered since it may represent a cost saving for the healthcare system, and once the patient is adapted to NIHMV, PaCO2 at one moth provides relevant information that might help to set for therapeutic decisions.
