The purpose of this investigation is to analyze, for the first time, the relationship between corporate sustainability disclosure and media visibility, as well as the relative impact of each of these investments on the quality and popularity perceived in the tourism sector. Thus, were identified organizations in the Sustainability Disclosure Database from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), active in the tourism sector, as well as organizations with hotel properties rated as 2019 Star Awards Winners (2019SAW) by Forbes Travel Guide (FTG), settled in one of the twenty most visited cities in the world in 2018. The results show that organizations choose sustainability disclosure expecting an improvement in their media visibility. When they choose to invest in media visibility, organizations don't feel the strategic need to invest in sustainability disclosure. For companies with a higher perceived quality level, investing in sustainability disclosure isn't a causal condition. For companies with a higher perceived popularity, the majority continues to result of an investment in media visibility, except in the presence of a combination of sustainability disclosure investment by listed companies.

Full textUkraine, as an object and a field of study, has a double challenge, both scientific and operational. This country, remaining still unattractive to European customers for its tourist and heritage resources, wishes to embark on a process of improving its positioning on the tourist market by drawing inspiration from French practices and expertise. This doctoral research therefore has two necessarily interlinked components: firstly, the study and analysis of Ukrainian tourism and heritage systems, and secondly, the proposals based on French know-how, intended to participate in Ukrainian research in this field. The current geopolitical context of the Ukrainian territory since November 2013 and its worsening during the 2014–2015 period has influenced the development and the established areas, but even more in the context of the problems initially posed. That development, initially focused on the strategies of the Ukrainian tourism sector starting from the example of 4 territories including Crimea, in fact was reoriented towards the study of cultural heritage as an Ukrainian tourist resource in order to develop a new tourist segment. Two approaches are used in order to identify points of tourism attraction in Ukraine for foreign tourists and the territorial markers necessary for establishing niche tourism. The first one is to find the means to objectively define the "image" of the country and its territories; the second one is to characterize the heritage elements likely to contribute to better Ukrainian visibility. These approaches have required the relevant delimitation and analysis of several corpuses: travel guides, lists of classified cultural heritage, questionnaires among tourists.Geopolitical changes and tensions in Ukraine have significantly disrupted access to data: some of them have completely disappeared. First of all, there are the tourist statistics of certain regions in tension (Donetsk, Luhansk, Crimea regions). In addition, the lists of classified cultural heritage have undergone transformations following the so-called "de-Sovietization" laws, leading to the abolition of heritage lists from the Soviet period. This "de-patrimonialization" also concerns certain monuments and heritage objects considered as "bearing the ideology of the communist regime". Finally, this difficulty of access to sources that are comparable over time on a national scale, such as official depatrimonialisation movement, has led to a partial repositioning of the research issues, with old and new heritages mobilizing the question of memory and Ukrainian identity in a different way.The diachronic approach used in explaining the tourism and institutional heritage evolutions has been put into perspective over a longer period of time. This is how the exploration and analysis of travel guides since the beginning of the XXth century has made it possible to resituate more widely the representations and discourses relating to tourism and therefore to Ukrainian identity through its heritage.Data representation work - graphs, synoptic tables, maps – has been carried out to better visualize the comparative elements, in their diachrony as well as in their spatializations. It has contributed to a diagnosis highlighting the disparities relating to tourist flows, territorial markers as well as classified heritage objects. These analyses lead to some recommendations for the implementation of niche tourism, centered on the articulation of tourist-heritage offers, based on accessible statistical data, but with a concern for vigilance as to their reliability

Pintail is a mobile companion application for guided storytelling. To inspire and augment story creation, Pintail uses priming as a technique by showing the user what others feel or have drawn about the places s/he is visiting. These Pintail prompts are synthesized from online travel reviews and doodle books. Some prompts are displayed in an ambient manner on a second screen. Users can use the Pintail story-creation tools to remix, reflect and create their own stories. The stories created by Pintail have an analog form. They are printed on a re-purposed mobile receipt printer. They are designed to catalyze in person-conversations. Pintail tries to balance between the story creation activity and the actual travel experience. Pintail provides the users with the structure and tools for storytelling that are aware of the short attention span of today's audience.

Thesis, Paris, EHESS, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019EHES0102.
Full textThis study focuses on the “Joanne” series of guidebooks that acquired popularity several decades before it was renamed “Guides Bleus” in 1919. The aim of this work is to grasp the series’ genealogy, evolution and transformation throughout the geographical regions it dealt with, mostly 19th and early 20th century Europe. This thesis falls into a multidisciplinary approach: mainly a historical research, it also makes use of Geography as well as History of Art, Archaeology, Literature and History of techniques. As the Joanne guidebooks were not created ex nihilo, this thesis first delves into the context that pushed the editor Hachette, in 1855, to buy back a tourist guidebook series that was then called “Richard”. It is thus necessary to go back to the late 18th century and the appearance of the first "Reichard" guidebooks. It then analyses the first acquisition of guidebooks that resulted in the creation of the “Bibliothèque des chemins de fer” (Railway library), distributed in the kiosks of train stations. In its second part, this study aims to reconstruct the emergence of these guidebooks famous for their “Prussian blue” covers, taking into account technical evolutions of printing and overall competition in this domain. This brings about a comparison between the French production and its British and German counterparts, Murray and Baedeker. These series pose a serious commercial threat to the French guidebooks, but also represent a source of emulation. The third part of this work introduces the reader to the various derivatives of the Joanne series. They are seen as an example of how the guidebooks were adapted to change in travel practices and to the appearance of new forms of transport, rail and automobile, before the rupture of the First World War. The thesis hence studies the shift that brought about the “Guides Bleus”. The work ends with a synthesis of the role played by these guidebooks in their historical period as well as to the birth of mass tourism in the middle of the 20th century

Full textCompanies must respect the legal framework in terms of health and safety at work. This framework, even if it is based on a logic of prevention of professional risks, is due to its complexity, difficult to master for an employer. The first step in our research work was to reveal this legal framework by dissecting it, explaining its subtleties and confronting it with the reality on the ground. In addition, in many cases employers do not learn about the legal framework until they take responsibility. We then thought about how to offer employers effective solutions in order to help them to respect it better and at the same time, to develop the prevention of professional risks for the benefit of workers. Thus, the second stage of our research work consisted in making available to employers a guide to good practice made up of two types of elements: A selection after analysis, of the solutions implemented by collective bargaining, which can have a real and tangible effect in terms of prevention of professional risks and thus correspond to the effectiveness criterion set by case law, Devices allowing them to self-assess their level of compliance with general as well as specific obligations in terms of health and safety at work and to satisfy them with the help of compliance sheets

Full textThe fall of walls and globalization have appointed new countries to open to the development of their tourism sector. At the heart of the Balkans, Albania, a former communist country, little known, even completely unknown, present both a destination and a blind spot in social sciences topic researches, a singularly challenging laboratory territory in terms of "(re) development of tourism" in a highly competitive market economy context and, this one, in the oldest tourist area in the world. Knowing during the 19-20th centuries her discovery and exploration travels, her tourist modernity’s before the Enver Hoxha’s era (1944-1991), which interrupted tourist development, that however have experienced its neighbors, Albania will face to his own weaknesses in terms of tourism development in the 21th century. This research aims to explore the historical density tourism practices - in successive political systems, to track since the nineteenth century the elements that have gradually created places, images and discourses of a "touristic Albania", constituting the material of a tourist offer, mobilized today by a plurality of actors and tourism ministries. Based on an approach considering a chronological diachronic approach through continuities and loss of discourse, this research reveals the construction of the first representations of travelers to Albania in the early 19th century, in order to present the image and Albanian tourism communication, both ancient and contemporary, based on a textual and iconographic analysis of tourist guides and new communication media. Representations and tourism practices of the Albanian youth in the 21th century, mobilized in a quantitative analysis by questionnaire focused in characteristics and construction through a process of the inversion of values

Full textEntitled Séville dans les guides de voyage français et espagnols (XIX-XXe siècles) [Seville in French and Spanish Travel Guides (XIXth-XXth centuries)], this dissertation intends to analyze the image of the Andalusian capital in the barely studied corpus of travel guides, from their emergence in the modern times until the dawn of mass tourism. The first part is meant to study how Franco-Spanish political and cultural relations shaped one—or more—picture(s) of Spain that varied from the “Black Legend” (1700-1823) to the “Red Legend” (1823-1905)—when travel guides were established as a genre—to the “Pink Legend” (1905-1962). The second part shows that guides, as vehicles of various temporal, spatial, historical, artistic, social and human representations, are ideal sources for cultural historians. Contrary to common beliefs, there is no single pattern for travel guides and this work intends to classify them. In the third part, the richness of the sources enables us to show that by appropriating such concepts as the picturesque or the exotic for example, but mostly by taking up or refuting stereotypes such as that of Spain as all “fanfare and tambourine”—in poet Antonio Machado’s words—, the varied forms adopted by guides have an influence on our perception of reality and on our representations. Thus the examination of the intersecting perspectives provided by guides constitutes a new approach to the relations between France and Spain and a fruitful starting point to tackle the construction of a discourse on the dialectics of identity and alterity. These concepts are explored through the study of built and living heritages, of the relations between the guides’ authors and their readers but also through the reading of History in the studied corpus.Key words: Cultural history, Spain, XIXth and XXth centuries, travel, tourism, travel guide, Seville, stereotypes, image

Full textFuel rods and cladding tubes in zirconium are essential structural parts of Pressurized Water Reactors. There are submitted in service to aggressive environment (vapour at ~320°C, 155 bars, and irradiation) and to multiaxial mechanical loadings leading to thermal creep which has to be quantified. The present work aims to determine the effects of 3 parameters on the mechanical behaviour of different zirconium alloys: the loading path, the metallurgical state (stress-relieved, recrystallized) and the chemical composition. The first step to take was to develop a new device adapted to different geometries of tubes, and to validate it by comparing experimental results obtained upon the stress-relieved Zircaloy 4 to bibliographical results. Second, a large database has been constituted on the M5® in order to highlight the effects of an overloading or of cycling on the circumferential stress, and of the loading path (application of the axial then the circumferential stress, or the contrary or proportional loading). Then by comparing the behaviour of the recrystallized and the stress-relieved Zircaloys 4, the effects of the metallurgical state on this hexagonal alloy on the creep behaviour have also been studied. Lastly, the effects of oxygen, stain and iron have been quantified due to 5 other alloys (M5® low and high oxygen, Q12, Q32 and Q42). The last step of this work corresponds to the model of the macroscopic behaviour of 2 alloys (M5® and Zircaloy 4) with isotropic and anisotropic criteria to prove the necessity of developing a new and strong model adapted to highly anisotropic alloys like Zirconium alloys

Full textThe thesis refers to French as a foreign language with specific objectives, in the case of the profession of tourist guide. Its purpose is the presentation of an educational software program aimed at training learners of French wishing to become local guides for francophone tourists – and providing computer assistance to do so. A second purpose is to experiment such a software program. It had been tested with Mahasarakham University students according to the standard criterion 80/80 by comparing their acquisition of knowledge with its use. Their attitudes towards using this software, as well as their assessments, were identified and analyzed. This software was tested in several stages. Its efficiency was graded 80. 80/84. 75, which is higher than the standard statistical criterion determined by 80/80. The average of the grades obtained before and after testing is significantly different at the p. 01 threshold. The attitude of students towards this educational software program has been positive. Such results show that this software program of French for tourist guides is fully effective. It will enrich the linguistic abilities of Thai students in the Mahasarakham University in Thailand. It could be a computer – based alternative resource facilitating language and vocational training programs with specific objectives. It is accessible not only to learners who wish to improve their knowledge in this area, but also to teachers wishing to discover an outstanding support tool to their own teaching, adapted to the pace of each individual learner. More broadly, it opens on a new conception of learning and teaching focused on the learners

Full textAbstract: Purpose: To facilitate a return to work for workers being on a sick leave following a musculoskeletal disorder (MSD), many physicians prescribe a gradual return to work (GRTW), which poses numerous challenges for workplaces. The aim of this study was to provide employers with an adapted tool to support them in managing GRTWs following a MSD. The study had two objectives: 1) adapt an existing tool intended for rehabilitation professionals (Guide for estimation of margin of manoeuvre) and 2) establish the acceptability of the adapted tool with potential users (PUs). Methods: A mixed methods design was used and carried out in three phases. 1) The first step was to adapt the original tool by taking into account the results of a critical review of the literature on the characteristics fostering PU’s adoption of guides. 2) The second step was to consult a group of expert practitioners familiar with the original guide and who worked with the PUs, using an adaptation of the Technique for Research of Information by Animation of a Group of Experts (TRIAGE). This consultation was done in two phases: a survey to be completed individually, and a consensus group meeting. For the survey, a self-administered questionnaire was used, prior to the group meeting, to establish the level of agreement of the experts with the pertinence, exhaustiveness, clarity, visual appeal and user-friendliness of the first version of the adapted tool. The proposals made regarding statements that obtained mean agreement scores of two or less were then addressed in a group meeting, until consensus was reached on the changes to be made. 3) The third step was to establish the acceptability of the latest version of the adapted tool with the PUs. To do so, dyads composed of a return-to-work coordinator and a direct supervisor from the same company were interviewed, using a semi-structured interview guide. A thematic analysis of the verbatim transcript was performed. Results: 1) From 13 publications, four main characteristics (clarity, format, applicability, and usefulness) were identified from the critical review. 2) Nine occupational therapists expert (eight women and one man, mean experience of 12.17 years) reached a consensus on 20 modifications covering three sections, which yielded a second version of the adapted tool comprising a 22-pages instruction guide and a two-sided planning worksheet. 3) The 15 PUs consulted (nine women and six men mainly from large companies from various sectors) found the tool acceptable overall. They recognized that the developed tool allowed them to standardize the management of the GRTW, include the worker more systematically in the process, and operationalize the best return-to-work practices. They also identified a few minor changes to make, including recommendations for preparing colleagues and shortening the format. Conclusion: By adapting the Guide for estimation of margin of manoeuvre, this study provided a tool that was designed and adapted to employers, taking into account both evidence-based data and expert consensus, which seems to have contributed to its acceptability by PUs. The adapted tool fills a real need within companies and further studies could be carried out to improve its format and create a transdiagnostic version.

The mid-infrared region is of great interest for many applications in various fields such as medicine, biology, environment and astronomy. Therefore, there is a need for developing sources and devices operating in this wavelength region, spanning approximately from 2 to20 µm. The development of these devices involves the development of mid-IR transparent materials and then the optical functionalization of these materials. In the framework of this PhD thesis, we propose to study the fabrication of components in glass of heavy metaloxides (barium, gallium, germanium: BGG), whose interest is the combination of a good transmission (from ~350 nm to ~5 µm) and good mechanical and chemical resistances. The technique used for the optical functionalization of this glass is direct inscription by ultra-short pulses. This technique allows a local and permanent modification of a material by focusing pulses of a duration of a few tens or hundreds of femtoseconds, generating very high light intensities and allowing the non-linear absorption of the laser beam energy. The non-linear nature of the interaction allows the inscription of three-dimensional structures in the bulk. Thanks to this technique, we can produce waveguides, microfluidic channels and fluorescent patterns, to name but a few examples. In this thesis, we report a detailed study of femtosecond laser inscription in different types of BGG glasses. We show that it is possible to have a high positive index change, allowing the formation of waveguide-based components for mid-IR. In particular, we present measurements results on waveguides and couplers in the mid-IR, embedded in BGG glass and fused silica. Another type of glass derived from BGG and doped with silver ions is also studied with the femtosecond laser inscription. As observed in other types of oxide glasses, silver ions modify the laser-matter interaction and provide silver-specific properties such as fluorescence, second harmonic generation and surface plasmons resonance.

Full textLow back pain is a major public and occupational health issue in industrialized countries. Chronic low back pain and resulting disability are potential sources of impaired quality of life, breaking career and even socio-professional exclusion. The first part of this work places the issue of the back intervertebral disc disease related to work and its social recognition. The low back pain chronicity and the social and professional restriction of participation are part of a dynamic model involving factors related to the individual, to the prevention and care system, to work, and to the financial compensation system. The need for integration of all these elements for medical care, prevention and medical and occupational surveillance of low back pain workers is developed through the presentation of recommendations for good practice. Recommendations for pre-return-to-work medical examination especially emphasize the benefit of coordinating medical, social and occupational actors for the return to / retention at work and the fight against occupational exclusion of low back pain workers. Finally, the offered to low back pain workers strategies which have shown their effectiveness in reducing the duration of sick leave combine an intensive physical rehabilitation, a cognitive-behavioral approach, a workplace intervention and the coordination of return to work actors. However, the implementation of these complex interventions has a great number of limitations

Starting from the premise that maps are essentially about visualizing space, this dissertation examines what the Ottoman maps of Istanbul reveal about the city's perception, as it evolved in connection to urban development after the conquest. The maps that form the subject of this study appear as illustrations in three manuscript books. The Istanbul maps contained in Mecmu'-i Menazil (1537-8) and HiinernAme (1584) respectively mark the beginning and the accomplishment of the city's architectural elaboration. The other twenty maps, featuring in manuscript copies of Kitab-i Bahriye (1520s), roughly span the period between 1550 and 1700. The variants of a design fixed around 1570 offer an image that fulfills its topographic elaboration in the late-seventeenth century. While the making of this map's design relates to Istanbul's sixteenth century urban development, its topographical elaboration reflects a new perception of the city. These picture-maps, produced in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, form a unique group of documents as the only known Ottoman pictorial representations showing the city as a whole. As revealed by the context of the books containing them, their making relates both to Ottoman Empire's territorial expansion and to the appropriation of Constantinople as its new capital. Their cartographic language combines, in different manners, the familiar conventions of Islamic miniature painting with artistic forms encountered and assimilated during territorial expansion, particularly in contact with Venice.
(cont.) Especially the making of the Istanbul maps in Kitfb-i Bahriye copies illustrates the crucial role of the Mediterranean seafaring culture, its navigation manuals, nautical charts and island books. These images of Istanbul can be related to the development of the urban landscape and its symbolic function. Their study as cartographic representations pays attention to both accuracy and emphasis in their topographic contents. Supported by contemporary European visual sources and travel accounts as well as Ottoman topographic and poetic descriptions of Istanbul, the viewing directions, the depictions of buildings, and the overall cartographic composition in these maps are interpreted as features shaping a symbolic landscape that developed from an ideal vision to an actual garden-like urban environment, structured by land, water, and architecture.

In order to building a spoken or written text, regardless of gender that it is being carried out, the speaker uses linguistic features such as semantic-argumentative strategies intending to guide the interlocutor to certain conclusions. The modalization and polyphony, accordingly, are phenomena that allow the speaker to leave printed his subjectivity in the content of the statements, while acting according to his interlocutor. Focusing in these discussions, this investigation aims to show that modalization and polyphony reveal, linguistically, subjectivity in the digest genre, acting therefore as argumentation features. It is a qualitative research, descriptive and interpretative, which adopts the theoretical and methodological principles of Argumentative Semantics. The corpus consists of ten digests collected in six editions of the Jornal de Resenhas, of the Discurso Editorial, ISSN 1984-6282, published in 2009, 2010 and 2012. The theoretical discussions concerning the Argumentation Theory of Language have based in Ducrot (1994, 1987, 1988), Espíndola (2004), Nascimento (2005, 2009), Koch (2006a, 2006b) and others arguing about the theory approach. The modalization is discussed under the postulates of Castilho and Castilho (1993), Koch (2006b), Cervoni (1989), Nascimento (2009), Neves (2011a), Palmer (2011) and García Negroni (2011). Besides, it was used as theoretical basis, Foucault (2011), Bakhtin (2010a, 2010b), Marcuschi (2008) and others to the formulations about the digest genre. The analysis reveals that digesters use modalization and the polyphony of speakers as phenomena that ultimately report the speakers‟ subjectivity in relation to the view of the voices of other speakers, that is, as a discursive strategy that guides the way the text of the digest should be read. Thus, the gender digest is defined as a place of interaction of voices and subjective impressions through which the speaker summarizes praises, criticizes and evaluates the most diverse academic intellectual productions.

During the Ming period, the flourish of “jiyou tu” (tourism paintings), with travel trend, has been considered one of the most significant developments in the time. However, a series of painting, Jixing tu (pictorial travel journey), in an innovative format, has only begun to be explored in these years. Jixing tu, also called Shuicheng tu (journey by water), commissioned by Wang Shizhen (1526-1590) and were done by Qian Gu (1508-1572) and Zhang Fu (1546-ca. 1631), recording Wang‘s journey from Taicang to Beijing. This thesis mainly focuses on this series of painting which is divided into a three-album set and another version of the first album. In the past, some scholars have discussed the visual materials adapted by Jixing tu and Wang''s purpose, but the function and style of the painting have never been fully explained. This thesis gives two perspective to the subject. First, the function of these paintings is not only to commemorate one''s experience but to provide tour materials for future travelers. In general, rather than determining the representation of the scenery, painters added a style of traditional maps to the albums, such as the application of high point of view and the script next to landmarks, to illuminate the tour information about each site. Secondly, painters obviously made a conscious effort to simplify the brush, yet the effort has received scant attention, leaving its feature underappreciated. This thesis suspects that Wang was trying to publish these paintings. This interpretation would be helpful to understand the brush style, furthermore, explains the relationship between the print culture and tourism. Given the possibility, it is suggested that Wang Shizhen plays a crucial role at the experimental stage of woodblock-printed of landscapes.

At the beginning of the Recession of Taiwan, all works of life are booming but the travel industry. Since the Kuomintang (KMT) government signed a contract with the United States for their soldiers from Vietnam War, the government realized that the travel industry, also called chimney free industry, can earn US dollars and increase foreign exchange reserves. The first public travel agency was established to cater to the US soldiers from Vietnam War to come to Taiwan for vacation. Erotic hotels in Beitou, Taipei were built compliantly, which made Taiwan a ‘man paradise.’ This stigma was gradually disappeared from the beginning of the 1990s. This study would like to research the history and develop quality tourism for Taiwan. This study adopts qualitative research method with literature review and in-depth interview. We investigate ideas that were collected from interviews with three tourism-related academic professionals and ten senior tour guides. A content analysis was conducted according to literature reviews initially and the transcripts were analyzed. The results of study, conclusions, and practical implications are offered to industry and government.

In this study, specific attention is paid to the importance attached by food consumers to Mediterranean destinations and trip attributes upon food experience. Healthy diet was explored according to Mediterranean culture food with a convenience sample of 210 Taiwan free and independent travelers in Mediterranean. A self-administered questionnaire was used to obtain healthy diet at travel destinations. Food consumption was estimated using a frequency diary. A majority of the samples had a positive attitude towards their healthy diet behavior. Those who perceived their own food habits to be healthy and had searched healthy diet information were more likely to comply with Mediterranean diet guidelines than those who did not. Females, age of 20 to 39 with tertiary education were associated with positive attitude towards their healthy diet behavior. An positive correlation with greater care about culture was evident for these with high healthy diet score. These preferences are compared to the previous studies on affecting factors, and the general literature on food tourism. It can be concluded that attitudes or motivation towards healthy diet was related to dietary and lifestyle behavior. Future research is suggested to devise appropriate methods of changing attitude towards dietary behavior in certain subgroups of the population.
Hochreiter, Rene Carlo. "A traveller's guide to the geology of Everest (a traverse from Lukla to Everest)." Thesis, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10539/21688.
Full textIn this, Part 1 of a two-part MSc, the geology of the area between Lukla and Mount Everest is described. An outcome of the MSc is the production of a field guide to this area, presented as Part 2 of this thesis. The collision between India and Asia resulted in the Himalayan orogen, 3000 km in lateral extent, an elevated Tibetan Plateau and a crust of at least 60 km in thickness. The resulting crustal flow from under this region is in the direction of least resistance, eastwards towards the Pacific subduction zones, but there is also southwards flow towards the Indian subcontinent resulting in vertical complexity. This southwards extrusion of mid-crustal rocks through a mechanism termed channel flow explains the presence of Miocene leucogranite between Ordovician limestones comprising the summit of Everest, and granite gneiss underlying the exhumed granite. Rapid rates of denudation assisted the extrusion of crustal slabs between the South Tibetan Detachment (STD) and the Main Central Thrust (MCT). Low-grade metamorphic rocks of the Everest Series are juxtaposed across the STD with the underlying high-grade metamorphic rocks of the Greater Himalayan Sequence (GHS). The GHS rocks in turn, are juxtaposed across the MCT with the underlying low-grade Siwaliks. Everest Series schists record temperatures of between 600 °C and 650 °C, and pressure estimates for these rocks ranging from 2.9 ± 0.6 kbar to 6.2 ± 0.7 kbar, corresponding to burial depths of between 10 km and 20 km. The GHS experienced eclogite facies metamorphism with pressures of > 14 kbar (>45 km depth) before being exhumed to granulite facies conditions of 4-6 kbar and 700-800 °C. High-temperature metamorphism of the GHS has resulted in partial melting and melt segregation and ascent to form the High Himalayan Leucogranites, a number of granitic bodies that have accumulated near the top of the GHS. Intense erosion through the action of glaciers, rivers, landslides and earthquakes (as the 25th April 2015 magnitude 7.8, and 12th May 2015, of magnitude 7.3 earthquakes attest), balance uplift of the Himalaya.
