Background: Hamstring muscle strains represent a common and disabling athletic injury with variable recurrence rates and prolonged recovery times. Objectives: To present the outcomes of a novel rehabilitation protocol for the treatment of proximal hamstring strains in an intercollegiate sporting population and to determine any significant differences in the rate of reinjury and time to return to sport based on patient and injury characteristics. Study Design: Retrospective case series. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of 48 consecutive hamstring strains in intercollegiate athletes

Abstract Nosocomial infections with Clostridium difficile are on the rise in the Unites States, attributed to emergence of antibiotic-resistant and hypervirulent strains associated with greater likelihood of recurrent infections. In addition to antibiotics, treatment with Merck anti-toxin B (TcdB) antibody bezlotoxumab is reported to reduce recurrent infections. However, treatment with anti-toxin A (TcdA) antibody actotoxumab was associated with dramatically increased disease severity and mortality rates in humans and gnotobiotic piglets. In this paper, our aim was to investigate the incidence, clinical characteristics, risk factors, and outcomes of recurrent candidemia in children. We retrospectively reviewed all children with candidemia from a medical center in Taiwan between 2004 and 2015. Two episodes of candidemia ≥30 days apart with clinical and microbiological resolution in the interim were defined as “late recurrence”, and those that had 8–29 days apart from previous episodes were defined as “early recurrence”. 45 patients (17.2%) had 57 episodes of recurrent candidemia, and 24 had 28 episodes of late recurrent candidem

Saccharomyces boulardii (nom. inval.) has been used for the treatment of several types of diarrhea. Recent studies have confirmed that S. boulardii is effective in the treatment of diarrhea, in particular chronic or recurrent diarrhea, and furthermore that it is a safe and well-tolerated treatment. The aim of the present study was to identify strains of S. boulardiito the species level and assess their virulence in established murine models. Topical decolonization is a standard procedure in cases of recurrent PVL-SA skin infections and is recommended in international guidelines. However, this outpatient treatment is often not fully reimbursed by health insurance providers, which may interfere with successful PVL-SA decolonization
