In the locality Zemská (the Low Tatras Mts.) the following aboveground parameters were measured in windthrown and undamaged Norway spruce Picea abies (L.) The stem quotients, crown proportion index, height position of the green crown, and the height of the tree centre of gravity were calculated from these data. Our results agreed with the present understanding that a wide tree crown has a negative effect on spruce stability. Paradoxically, from the vie

Abstract Adequate design of tree harvesting equipment requires reliable estimates of centers of gravity and moments of inertia for full trees and tree-length stems. Several prediction models were developed for both centers of gravity and moments of inertia based on the theory of geometric solids. These models were fitted to center of gravity and moment of inertia estimates that were derived from stem dimension and weight measurements on loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) trees. The models were compared, and the best prediction equations for center of gravity and moment of inertia of tree-length st

Abstract We introduce a single-valued solution concept, the so-called average covering tree value, for the class of transferable utility games with limited communication structure represented by a directed graph. The solution is the average of the marginal contribution vectors corresponding to all covering trees of the directed graph. The covering trees of a directed graph are those (rooted) trees on the set of players that preserve the dominance relations between the players prescribed by the directed graph. The forces and mechanics related to the wind firmness of 30-year-old loblolly pine (Pinustaeda L.) trees were tested by toppling them with a winch and cable system. The ability of trees to resist toppling, expressed as the critical turning moment, was determined by measuring the force exerted by the winch and the height on the tree where the center of force was exerted. Critical turning moments were closely and positively related to stem taper (R2 = 0.91) and various measures of tree size, including tree weight (R2 = 0.96), stem volume (R2 = 0.94), and cubic diameter at breast height (R2 = 0.9

ABSTRACT Galaxy models have long predicted that galactic bars slow down by losing angular momentum to their postulated dark haloes. When the bar slows down, resonance sweeps radially outwards through the galactic disc while growing in volume, thereby sequentially capturing new stars at its surface/separatrix. Since trapped stars conserve their action of libration, which measures the relative distance to the resonance centre, the order of capturing is preserved: the surface of the resonance is dominated by stars captured recently at large radius, while the core of the resonance is occupied by s

The trunk point cloud is segmented based on individual stems, each of which is further divided into slices that are modeled as cylinders. It is not known if lateral branch development leads to a parent branch that is evenly balanced. Abstract:
The Integrated Monitoring Programme (ICP IM) is part of the effect-oriented activities under the 1979 Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution, which covers the region of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The main aim of ICP IM is to provide a framework to observe and understand the complex changes occurring in natural/semi natural ecosystems. This report summarizes the work carried out by the ICP IM Programme Centre and several collaborating institutes. The emphasis of the report is in the work done during the programme year 2022/2023 including: • A short

Abstract:
Coffs Harbour on the north coast of NSW is a highway city sandwiched between the Great Dividing Range and the Pacific Ocean. For thousands of years it was the traditional land of the numerous Gumbaynggirr peoples. Tourism now appears to be the major industry, supplanting agriculture and timber getting, while a large service sector has grown up around a sizable retirement community. It is major holiday destination. Located further away from the coast in the midst of a dairy farming community, Bellingen has become a centre of alternative culture which relies heavily on a variety of festivals act

Abstract:
Regional-scale lake sediment surveys have been successfully used since the 1970s as a means for reconnaissance geochemical exploration. Lake sediment sampling is typically performed in areas with a lack of streams and an overabundance of small-sized (=5 km across) lakes. Lake sediments are known to have major, minor and trace element concentrations that reflect the local geology. Overall, lake sediment surveys are planned and conducted following four distinct stages: 1) background research, 2) orientation survey, 3) regional survey, and 4) detailed survey.
