Abstract:

Art libraries are cultural treasure-houses, responsible for the preservation and organisation of materials which document art in all its variety. Art librarians should be able to adopt a broad view, capable of appreciating different cultural traditions and able to stand aside from current fashions; at the same time, those responsible for specialised libraries should commit themselves with enthusiasm and dedication to the particular traditions represented by their collections. Cooperation and networking is essential to link art libraries and their representation of different aspects of human culture, nationally and worldwide. While art libraries enable research, they also have a much wider educational role and should ideally be accessible to all. However, the provision of access to the library’s cultural wealth, which (legal considerations permitting) can be facilitated by such new technologies as videodiscs, has financial implications which may suggest that some services should be charged for or that libraries must seek sponsorship.

Abstract:

Abstract An experiment was conducted to study genetic variability and performance of nine exotic lilium cultivars (Lilium x hybrida) for suitability for commercial cultivation in North Western hilly regions of Uttarakhand at Research Station and KVK, Lohaghat, GBPUA&T, Pantnagar, Champawat, Uttarakhand India. Bulbs of nine lilium hybrid cultivars viz., Acapulco (Pink), Sorbonne (White), Yelloween (Yellow), Tresor (Orange), Brindisi (Pink), Blackout (Red), Pavia (Yellow), Ercolano (White) and Samur (Pink) were selected as experimental material. There was significant difference in days taken for bud initiation among nine cultivars. It is evident from data that minimum days take for bud initiation in cultivar Blackout (44 days) followed by Tresor (45 days). The maximum number of flowers per plant reported in cultivars Acapulco (10.20) followed by Yelloween (8.20) and Sorbonne (7.80) which is at par with Blackout (7.40) and Pavia (7.20). Maximum vase life was recorded with Acapulco (12.4 days) followed by Sorbonne (11.80 days) which is at par with Yelloween (11.8 days) while Minimum vase life was recorded with Ercolano (8.40 days) and Tresor ( 8.40 days). Mean value was found maximum for flower stem length (87.29) and minimum mean value was exhibited by number of flowers per plant. Heritability value was found maximum for characters like days to flower bud opening followed by length of flower stalk and days taken to bud initiation.

Abstract:

Pepper crops (Capsicum annuum L.) represent a very important production sector in the Southeast of Spain. Specifically, in the province of Almería, approximately 7000 hectares are grown every year. Due to the economic importance that this crop has for the region and the withdrawal of soil fumigants from the market, agronomic techniques have been adopted with the aim of controlling some soil pathogens and increasing the yield and quality parameters of the fruits obtained. The use of grafted pepper plants is not, as yet, very well established in this region, due mainly to the lack of commercial rootstocks that satisfy the producers of this vegetable. In this experiment three pepper rootstocks were assessed. An experiment was designed with four treatments and three replications of each one (12 experimental plots), which were distributed in randomised blocks. Three of the treatments corresponded to grafted plants of the "Palermo" cultivar onto: "Oscos", "AR40" and "Tresor", using non-grafted "Palermo" cultivar as the control test. The average yield expressed in kg/plant, showed significant differences between grafted and non-grafted plants. The highest fruit weight was obtained in Palermo onto Tresor. The presence of Blossom end rot (BER) in the assessed fruits also showed significant differences between the different treatments, with the fruits from plants grafted onto Tresor showing a higher proportion of BER and the fruits coming from plants grafted onto AR40 showing the lowest proportion.

ABSTRACT: An efficient protocol was standardized for calli mass formation from bulb scale explant of hybrid Lilium Cv. Tresor under in vitro conditions at Biotechnology-cum-Tissue Culture Centre, OUAT, Bhubaneswar. The bulb scale explants were treated with 0.1 % HgCl2 (3 min, 4min, 5min, 6 min, 7min, 8min and 9 min) and control (without treatment) were cultured on MS media, among the treatments, 5 minutes timing resulted in minimum contamination [fungal % (6.67), bacterial % (6.67)] and maximum survival % (83.33%). The best surface sterilization time was further taken into consideration for treatment of explants, sterilization and cultured in the MS Basal media supplemented with BAP (0.5, 1.0 mg/l) in combination with 2,4-D (0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0, and 2.5 mg/l) and 2,4-D (0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0, and 2.5 mg/l) alone along with control. Basal media supplemented with BAP (1.0 mg/l) and 2,4-D (1.50 mg/l) produced maximum callus % (90.00%) and spread, profuse green callus was also recorded in similar combination which opened prospects for developing an indirect means of in vitro regeneration of hybrid Lilium Cv. Tresor there by strengthening the way biotechnology which could be used for improvement and satiate the national and international demands of this cut flowers.

Fent servir dos o tres exemples de la seva pròpia traducció, il·lustra allò que defineix com l’estil del traductor, el qual consistirà en un biaix i unes estratègies que poden variar molt entre un traductor i un altre, però, per unes vies o unes altres, sempre hauran d’anar a encaminades a recrear l’estil de l’autor. By comparing the eleven sumptuary laws enacted between the reigns of François I and Henri IV, the author intends to demonstrate that their iterative character, which at first glance seems a sign of their ineffectiveness, is in fact the expression of a disequilibrium between the claims ofthe nobility and the monarchical absolutist ideal. The evolution of the sumptuary discourse signals the formation of a new manner of self-representation, as well as the arising power struggle between the king and his subjects.

Abstract:

Els Sermons de sant Vicent Ferrer constitueixen un veritable tresor des del punt de vista lingüístic, i —òbviament— també des d’una òptica teològica. En aquesta aportació, tanmateix, es proposa una aproximació analítica als Sermons de Vicent Ferrer des de perspectives etnopoètiques: atenent relats, motius, temes, creences, arguments, imatges i referents narratius directament manllevats pel dominic valencià a l’imaginari popular del seu temps.L’estudi de les semblances i els exemples inserits en els Sermons vicentins no solament aporta llum sobre les tècniques comunicatives i les estratègies discursives de la predicació vicentina, sinó també sobre alguns aspectes concrets —etnopoèticament interessantíssims— del patrimoni rondallístic valencià. Així, per exemple, resulta que algunes narracions internacionalment indexades i tipificades, que durant els dos últims segles mai no han pogut ser identificades i catalogades dins de l’àmbit cultural valencià, sí que poden ser documentades, en canvi, en els Sermons de sant Vicent. Aquest és el cas, sense anar més lluny, del tipus ATU 1 («The Theft of Fish»), i també del tipus ATU 1331 («The Covetous and the Envious»).

Abstract:

In the southeast of Spain, specifically in the province of Almería, pepper production represents 1.70% of the total pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) production in the world, which in turn represents 31.8% of the European production. In the last 10 years, production has remained stable between 7,240 and 10,997 ha. Due to the economic importance of this crop in the region, more improvements of the production techniques have been adopted. The reduced number of commercial rootstocks of peppers, which really improve yield in this crop, causes a continuous search for new genotypes. In this experiment, five pepper rootstocks were evaluated in an experimental design of randomized blocks with six treatments and three repetitions. The rootstocks used were: ‘Serrano de Morelos 2’ (SCM-334), ‘Jalapeño’, ‘Oscos’, ‘AR 9604040’, and ‘Tresor’. The cultivar grafted onto them was ‘Palermo’ also used as a control test. SCM-334 cultivar used as rootstock has a similar behavior in the production parameters measured as the commercial pepper rootstocks which were used. ‘Jalapeño’ and ‘SCM-334’ demonstrated different behavior in plant vigour compared with the others treatments. There is no interrelationship between production and plant vigour provided by the rootstock.

Abstract:

The results of three-year study of productivity for the five leading potato varieties in Montenegro: Riviera and Tresor (early), Kennebec (medium-early), Aladin and Agria (medium-late) are presented. The research was conducted during 2009, 2010 and 2011, on three highly diverse, related to the pedological and climatic conditions, locations in mountainous region of Montenegro: Niksic (800 m.a.s.l.), Kolasin (900 m.a.s.l.) and Zabljak (1450 m.a.s.l.). Field experiments were set up using standard methodology in random block design in four repetitions. The analysis of variance suggested that there were highly significant differences among genotypes (G), investigated years (Y) and locations (L) for potato yield. Apart from individual influence of the factors, their interactions (G x Y, G x L, Y x L, G x Y x L) were also highly significant for investigated trait. In average the highest yield (28.9 t/ha) was established at Kolasin locality. The highest yield of all investigated varieties and localities was measured at variety Agria (30.0tha-1), while the lowest at Riviera (24.6 t ha-1). In this investigation Agria variety was favourable for yield of potato tuber.

Abstract:

The effect of susceptibility/resistance of seed potato varieties on population of golden cyst nematode - Globodera rostochiensis (Wollenweber, 1923) Skarbilovich, 1959 was investigated in the infested field of Brdo, KO Ljubovija No. 413, in Macva District in Serbia during 2002 and 2003. The susceptible varieties Desiree, Innovator, Kennebec, Cleopatra, and Kondor were used in the experiment as varieties frequently grown in this district. The resistant ex-andigena varieties Agria, Frisia, Latona, Saturna, and Tresor were chosen on the basis of identified pathotypes of G. rostochiensis population originating from the aforementioned infested field. The results of this research indicated that nematode population of G. rostochiensis could be reduced and higher yield obtained by growing the resistant ex-andigena varieties in case of presence of pathotype Ro1. In the second year of investigation, final cyst density was 3.5 times lower than in the first year. It subsequently affected the crop yield which increased in the second year. The lowest crop yield was observed for susceptible varieties Kennebec (8.5 t/ha) and Cleopatra (16.9 t/ha), and the highest for resistant varieties Agria (25.7 t/ha) and Frisia (29.1 t/ha). These results may be useful to growers in the infested areas of Macva District when choosing potato varieties, in order to eradicate the quarantine nematode G. rostochiensis.

El tresor dels antropònims guimeranians –alguns d’ells inventats, d’altres reals o presos de la història– ofereix una àmplia paleta sempre, però fent referència a l’espai i el temps en què transcorre l’acció i el paper que exerceixen, sia còmic, sia tràgic. Aquest article es concentrarà en la freqüència, la tipologia (noms parlants, sonors, classificadors i personificadors) i les diverses funcions que un nom pot desplegar dins el text d’acord amb els propòsits concebuts ja d’antuvi per l’autor.The literary onomastic studies the creation, typology and function of the anthroponyms within a literary context; through different variants these names develop a typical expressiveness of the characters and also influence the plot, in other words it is a interdisciplinary field, that investigates the literary meaning of the onomastic in a work. The treasure of Guimerà’s names –some of them invented, some others real or loaned from the history– offers a broad palette but always in relation with the space and the time by which the plot takes place and the role that they play, either comic or tragic. This article will deal with the frequency, typology (speaking, sonorous, classifiers, impersonators names) and the different functions, which a name can unfold within a text in accordance with the beforehand envisaged purpose of the author.

Abstract:

For a number of geophytic crops, pre-plant plant growth regulator (PGR) dips or soaks are an effective method of height control. Previous research has shown that a given PGR solution may be used to dip numerous bulbs without losing efficacy. What has been unknown is whether PGR solutions maintain efficacy over multiple-week (seasonal) time scales, especially if they have previously been used to treat bulbs. To address this question, 30 mg·L−1 flurprimidol solutions were prepared 3 weeks apart and used to dip narcissus and hyacinth bulbs and then held for 4 weeks at 17 °C in darkness. These solutions (now 7 and 4 weeks old) and a freshly prepared solution were used to dip bulbs of eight hyacinth and five narcissus cultivars. After appropriate cooling, bulbs were forced in a greenhouse. Results indicate no difference in growth reduction among the 0-, 4-, or 7-week-old solutions demonstrating no loss of PGR activity over a 7-week period. In two other experiments, 2.5, 5, and 10 mg·L−1 flurprimidol solutions were exposed to 0 to 8 days of full sun (late June) and then used to dip Lilium ‘Tresor’ bulbs for 1 minute. Growth of the plants indicated loss of growth regulation activity (taller plants) as the duration of exposure to sunlight increased, suggesting substantial photolysis of the active ingredient. Together, the results suggest that flurprimidol solutions can be held in darkness at 17 °C and used for at least 7 weeks without loss of efficacy.
