Abstract:
A novel boost converter named tri-state boost converter is introduced in this paper. According to the operation principle of the tri-state boost converter, the Euler-Lagrange model is set up. Based on the passivity-based control theory and Euler-Lagrange model, a passivity-based controller of the tri-state boost converter is designed. By damping injecting, the input current and output voltage of the tri-state boost converter can reach the desired equilibrium values rapidly. The speed of the tri-state boost converter to reach the desired equilibrium values varies when the damping values changes. The controller is simple to design and makes the tri-state boost converter having better dynamic and steady performances. The passivity-based controller proposed in the paper is proved feasible by simulation results.

Abstract:
In this study, a weight switching tri-state median filter (TSM) is proposed for removing impulse noise in both smooth and complicated regions of the dealing images. The switching scheme adopted large center weight while removing impulse noise of the complicate regions and switched to small center weight while dealing with the smooth regions. The smooth and complicated regions were classified according to the statistics information of the dealing image. The quad-tree decomposition was used to reduce classification procedures. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed center weight switching scheme makes the TSM effective in both smooth and complicated regions of images with different noise ratio.

Abstract:
Recently, predicting multivariate time-series (MTS) has attracted much attention to obtain richer semantics with similar or better performances. In this paper, we propose a tri-partition alphabet-based state (tri-state) prediction method for symbolic MTSs. First, for each variable, the set of all symbols, i.e., alphabets, is divided into strong, medium, and weak using two user-specified thresholds. With the tri-partitioned alphabet, the tri-state takes the form of a matrix. One order contains the whole variables. The other is a feature vector that includes the most likely occurring strong, medium, and weak symbols. Second, a tri-partition strategy based on the deviation degree is proposed. We introduce the piecewise and symbolic aggregate approximation techniques to polymerize and discretize the original MTS. This way, the symbol is stronger and has a bigger deviation. Moreover, most popular numerical or symbolic similarity or distance metrics can be combined. Third, we propose an along–across similarity model to obtain the k-nearest matrix neighbors. This model considers the associations among the time stamps and variables simultaneously. Fourth, we design two post-filling strategies to obtain a completed tri-state. The experimental results from the four-domain datasets show that (1) the tri-state has greater recall but lower precision; (2) the two post-filling strategies can slightly improve the recall; and (3) the along–across similarity model composed by the Triangle and Jaccard metrics are first recommended for new datasets.

Abstract:
Tri-state boost power factor correction (PFC) converter operating in pseudo-continuous-conduction mode (PCCM) is analyzed in this paper. The connection of power switch in parallel with inductor makes the boost converter operate in PCCM, which provides an additional degree of control freedom by inductor current freewheeling operation mode. Compared with boost PFC converter operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), tri-state boost PFC converter extends the load range and is therefore more suitable for wide range of load variation. However, for universal input applications, the input power factor (PF) of the tri-state boost PFC converter is relatively low when the sinusoidal reference current control strategy is used. To improve the PF over the whole input voltage range, the input current and PF expressions of the tri-state boost PFC converter is derived and the non-sinusoidal reference current control strategy is proposed. A 400 W prototype of the tri-state boost PFC converter is built by using digital signal processing (DSP) as the controller. The experimental results verify the analysis results.

Parikh, Shaishav Shailesh. "Testing tri-state and pass transistor circuit structures." Texas A&M University, 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/2730.

Full text
Abstract:
Tri-state structures are used to implement multiplexers and buses because these structures are faster than AND/OR logic structures. But testing of tri-state structures has some issues associated with it. A stuck open control line of a tri-state gate will cause some lines in the circuit to float and take unknown values. A stuck-on control line can cause fighting when the two drivers connected to the same node drive different values. This thesis develops new gate level fault models and dynamic test patterns that take care of these problems. The models can be used with traditional stuck-at and transition fault automatic test pattern generation (ATPG) to ensure high fault coverage. This research focuses on producing good test coverage with reduced effort for tristate and pass transistor structures. We do circuit level modeling to help develop and validate gate level models, which can be used in production ATPG. We study the two primary effects of interest, capacitive coupling and leakage, and analyze the tri-state structures using these two effects. Coupling and leakage can cause a Z or X state to be seen as 0 or 1 in some cases. We develop parameterized models of behavior of common structures using these effects and some parameters such as number of fan-ins. We also develop gate level models of tri-state circuits that would replace the tri-state library cells in the ATPG engine. This work develops a methodology to make tri-state and pass transistor circuit structures more usable in the industry.

Korishe, Abdulah. "A Driver Circuit for Body-Coupled Communication." Thesis, Linköpings universitet, Elektroniksystem, 2013. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-93448.

Full text
Abstract:
The main concept of Body-Coupled Communication (BCC) is to transmit the electrical information through the human body as a communication medium by means of capacitive coupling. Nowadays the current research of wireless body area network are expanding more with the new ideas and topologies for better result in respect to the low power and area, security, reliability and sensitivity since it is first introduced by the Zimmerman in 1995. In contrast with the other existing wireless communication technology such as WiFi, Bluetooth and Zigbee, the BCC is going to increase the number of applications as well as solves the problem with the cell based communication system depending upon the frequency allocation. In addition, this promising technology has been standardized by a task group named IEEE 802.15.6 addressing a reliable and feasible system for low power in-body and on-body nodes that serves a variety of medical and non medical applications. The entire BAN project is divided into three major parts consisting of application layer, digital baseband and analog front end (AFE) transceiver. In the thesis work a strong driver circuit for BCC is implemented as an analog front end transmitter (Tx). The primary purpose of the study is to transmit a strong signal as the signal is attenuated by the body around 60 dB. The Driver circuit is cascaded of two single-stage inverter and an identical inverter with drain resistor. The entire driver circuit is designed with ST65 nm CMOS technology with 1.2 V supply operated at 10 MHz frequency, has a driving capability of 6 mA which is the basic requirement. The performance of the transmitter is compared with the other architecture by integrating different analysis such as corner analysis, noise analysis and eye diagram. The cycle to cycle jitter is 0.87% which is well below to the maximum point and the power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) is 65 dB indicates the good emission of supply noise. In addition, the transmitter does not require a filter to emit the noise because the body acts like a low pass filter. In conclusion the findings of the thesis work is quite healthy compared to the previous work. Finally, there is some point to improve for the driver circuit in respect to the power consumption, propagation delay and leakage power in the future.
