A Triassic taphoflora identified in the Central Region of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil, represents an important biostratigraphic stage in the paleofloristic succession of the Paraná Basin. We present here an outcrop with a peculiar fossil assemblage, including a distinct taphocoenosis in comparison to other fossiliferous outcrops of the Santa Maria Formation (Triassic, Paraná Basin). Foram revisados dezesseis prontuários de pacientes que apresentavam nódulo pulmonar à radiografia de tórax diagnosticados como histoplasmoma através de achado histopatológico demonstrando elementos fúngicos compatíveis com Histoplasma capsulatum var capsulatum no Rio Grande do Sul. Revisada a literatura brasileira. Todos os pacientes eram brancos, nove eram homens, a média de idade foi de 50,8 anos. Descrevem-se dois surtos de intoxicação por Senecio spp. em ovinos a campo no sul do Rio Grande do Sul. A enfermidade ocorreu no ano 2006 em duas propriedades que estavam severamente invadidas pela planta e com acentuada escassez de forragem. A morbidade nos dois surtos variou de 10% a 9,5% nas duas propriedades, respectivamente. Foi realizado um estudo retrospectivo dos diagnósticos de causas de morte e de lesões em equinos na região Sul do Rio Grande do Sul entre 1978 e 2012. Foram revisados os protocolos de necropsia e materiais desta espécie encaminhados ao Laboratório Regional de Diagnóstico da Faculdade de Veterinária da Universidade Federal de Pelotas no período.
