From color matching, subjects with protanomalous (PA) and deuteranomalous (DA) trichromacy appear to have three functional classes of cone photopigment, but the peak absorption of one photopigment, either the M-cone (DA) or the L-cone (PA), occurs at a different wavelength than for normal subjects. Pokorny, Smith and Katz (1973) derived absorption spectra for anomalous photopigments of 500-700 nm by using Schmidt’s (1955) anomaloscope matching data for normal subjects with anomalous trichroma.
