Abstract:
Concepts such as freedom cannot be measured and give material measurable results. Freedom is not measured. It leaves its philosophical imprint on independent thought. According to Jean-Jacques Rousseau (Note 1), it recedes only to leave room for political freedom The supposed absolute freedom based on the quantity of material goods and choices actually leads to the commitment of individualism. Because it is difficult to change this relationship between materialism and individualism, we focus on philosophical freedom through self-knowledge that will answer the triple question (1) what is best for me, (2) what is best for you, (3) what is best for community in which we negotiate a win-win-win reasoning for everyone who negotiates with another in the community Thus arises a win-win-win inner freedom with an immeasurable result, which at its limit is identified with the complete independence of the soul and the spirit.

Abstract:
The world’s challenges of climate change, damage to ecosystems, and social and health inequalities require changes in human behaviours at every level of organisation, among governments, business, communities, and individuals. An important question is how behaviour change can be enabled and supported at the scale and speed required. The research reported in this paper describes important lessons for good practice in changing contexts to modify behaviours for a triple win for health, equity and environmental sustainability. Authors synthesised learning from qualitative, quantitative and cost benefit evaluations of 15 case studies conducted in 12 countries in Europe. The case studies address ways of living (green spaces and energy efficient housing), moving (active transport) and consuming (healthy and sustainable diets) that support the triple win. Ten lessons for good practice were identified. These include bringing a triple win mindset to policy and practice in planning interventions, with potential to improve environmental sustainability, health and equity at the same time. The lessons for good practice are intended to support governmental and non-governmental actors, practitioners and researchers planning to work across sectors to achieve mutual benefits for health and environmental sustainability and in particular to benefit poorer and more socio-economically disadvantaged groups.

Abstract:
The coastal islands and marshes of Chesapeake Bay USA, are disappearing along with the ecosystem services and infrastructure/shoreline protection they provide. To counter such losses, the USACE Baltimore District is restoring historic island footprints using dredged sediments. Islands constitute an important natural and nature-based feature (NNBF) that meet the 'triple win outcomes' of USACE's Engineering With Nature (EWN) initiative, by providing economic, social and environmental benefits. Here we highlight the restoration and monitoring of Swan Island using 61,000 cubic yards of dredged sediment. The creation/expansion of Swan Island, is expected to produce significant benefits in terms of ecosystem services, increased resilience to future sea level rise, and abatement of erosive losses to an adjacent coastal community. The pre- and post-restoration monitoring and model development by project partners will serve to quantify the benefits and efficacy of the island restoration thereby facilitating island restoration as a viable NNBF option in the future.Recorded Presentation from the vICCE (YouTube Link): https://youtu.be/2kvSVcH2KuE

Abstract:

Holm, Pontus, Max Banfalvi, and Alex Berlin. "Why CSR is a win-win concept : An explanatory study of the impact of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) on the attractiveness towards an employer." Thesis, Linnéuniversitetet, Institutionen för marknadsföring (MF), 2020. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:lnu:diva-96331.

Abstract:
Background: The concept of CSR has become a more discussed topic in relation to employer attractiveness in recent years. Recent research pointed in the direction of CSR to be a vital tool to be utilised in order for employers to enhance their employer attractiveness. By implementing CSR within an organisations agenda, will initially increase the number of job applicants. However, employer attractiveness in relation to CSR was still treated as a generic term, and not divided into specific values. Therefore, the authors divided the values within employer attractiveness (Interest, Social, Economic, Development and Application Value) and investigated which of the five values within employer attractiveness that were positively impacted by CSR. Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to explain how CSR impact employer attractiveness. Methodology: This thesis had a quantitative research method based on previous studies, hence, a deductive approach. The purpose was of an explanatory nature and the authors utilized a cross-sectional research design. The authors created an online survey that gathered 280 responses through the use of non-probability sampling in the form of a convenience sample. Findings: In this study, four out of the five hypotheses were accepted meaning that CSR positively impacts employer attractiveness. Furthermore, the authors cross-checked the independent and dependent variables together with control questions such as gender, age and occupation. Resulting in gender, age and occupation not having a significant impact on the result. Conclusion: The authors conclude that CSR positively impacts employer attractiveness through the measured values of Interest, Social, Development and Application Value. The authors could not conclude that CSR had a positive impact on Economic Value meaning that the hypothesis (H3) was rejected.

Abstract:
101
Mobile ad recommendation features short documents/queries and location factor. How to combine these two factors with proper IR model is the key issue. Hence, we distinguish location-sensitive queries from location-independent queries such that the ad-matching algorithm could react differently for various queries. For those location-sensitive queries, it is difficult to attain excellent recommendation effectiveness with traditional retrieval model. The relevance of recommended ads under the constraint of user accessibility could not be as relevant as the relevance of recommended ads without limit of distance. Thus, to model the tradeoff between ad relevance and ad distance to the user in personalized ad-matching algorithm is a key issue. As for location-independent queries, mobile ad matching system still have to solve vocabulary mismatch problem because short documents and short queries have been the inherent part of mobile advertising. Hence, we focus on improvement of retrieval effectiveness to relieve vocabulary mismatch problem via relevance model and LDA smoothing. We compare the retrieval effectiveness of the relevance model with vector space model and query likelihood model with LDA smoothing. The average result over 34 users showed that our proposed approach with relevance model achieved the best performance. Although relevance model is effective in ad matching, the computation time takes long time due to complicated calculation. Thus, we consider only high-weighted PMLE(w|D) values and high-weighted PQL(q|D) values in the estimation of relevance model, and top-ranked words with high-weighted P(w|Q) value in the summation of KL-divergence. The efficiency consideration makes the complex computation of the ad matching algorithm with relevance model finished in limited time.

Abstract:
99
Mobile devices (e.g. smart phone, PDAs, vehicle phone, and e-books) are becoming more and more popular. However, mobile broadband subscriptions are only about 20 percent of the mobile subscriptions. Part of the reasons is due to the high payments requirement for broadband subscriptions. On the other hand, US mobile ad spend will exceed US$1 billion in 2011 according to emarketer.com. Therefore, the idea of this paper is to increase broadband subscribers by providing free or discounted fees through the deployment of mobile advertising framework by the telecommunication system. In this framework, telecommunication carriers run the ads agent platform to attract investments from advertisers. Subscribers read promotional advertisements that are sent to subscribers’ mobile phones to get discounted payment of mobile Internet accessing from telecommunication carriers. While the advertisers pay a reasonable price for advertising, the possible commercial activities will bring revenues to advertisers. As a result, this framework is a triple-win for telecommunication carriers, advertisers and subscribers. In this paper, we describe a framework for delivering appropriate ads of the ideal time at the ideal place to the ideal subscriber is the three key issues on how to show the ads, when to show the ads, and what potential ads to be clicked by the subscribers. Based on our research in the past two years on contextual advertising, we hope to take user velocity and user location into consideration.

However, mobile broadband subscription rate does not grow as well. Part of the reasons is due to the high payments requirement for broadband subscriptions. Chang and Huo [2] proposed a triple-win mobile advertising framework to benefit the telecommunication provider, the advertisers, and the subscribers at the same time. In this paper, we first design a wireless framework for triple-win mobile advertising framework to provide subscribers with Internet access through firewall control. Second, we discuss how to obtain subscribers' information need in order to enable personalized ad matching. Third, we use system capacity tool to test the wireless system to allocate an appropriate number of wireless base stations and subscribers with a firewall server in order to avoid network breakdown due to system overloading. Finally, we take an university as an example to deploy the mobile ad agent platform to offer freshmen and visitors with campus information and university campaign to build a friendly campus life.

Chien-WeiLee and 李建緯. "A Triple-win Framework for Reducing the Environmental Load - A Case Study of Building Solar Systems on Soil and Groundwater Pollution Sites." Thesis, 2017. http://ndltd.ncl.edu.tw/handle/4tm6c9.

Full text
Abstract:
104
This study explores the feasibility of solar PV system installations on soil and groundwater pollution sites to minimize adverse environmental impact, while attaining triple-win among the government, landholders, and the developers by awarding profit from solar energy generated on the sites back to the grid for environmental rehabilitation. Regulations concerning pollution sites management currently in effect are rather reserved; and even if permission is given for the installation, supplemental measures still need to be formulated for effectively remedying pollution sites and reclaiming illegal gains. The study wishes to propose a legally-sound and pragmatic solution to attain triple-win for the good of the community. The study explores regulations enacted by Bureau of Energy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Environmental Protection Administration, reviews existing statutes governing the installation of solar PV systems on pollution sites, and identifies supplemental measures in view of statutory and pragmatic aspects of the project to propose doable solutions. Interviews are conducted with representatives of government agencies, landholders, and developers (investors) for solution modification in hopes of arriving at an actionable, triple-win framework. Our study raises several issues: one is the reserved approach of the government and landholders toward statutory and pragmatic aspects concerning the existing solution, and the others are: effective pollution control, financing and investment, community census, and statutory inadequacies. It also proposes supplemental measures that include feasible solutions, which are met with unanimous approval by the government agency, landholders, and developers, who point out that these solutions are much more effective than the ones currently in place. Meanwhile, the remediation of pollution sites and the reclamation of illegal gains still have to be addressed. To that end, the study formulates the engagement of B Corp, the establishment of an environmental rehabilitation fund with investment revenue and rent (accounting for 11% of the revenue from power generated on these sites) to cover some of the expenses. The funding would be used for environmental rehabilitation to remedy pollution sites in the next twenty years to help ease the strains on government coffers, and reclaim illegal gains. The measure promises to ensure triple-win for the government, landholders, and developers (investors). The study concludes with several suggestions, and it urges the government to partner with the private sector with open-mindedness to maximize the greatest social good.

Abstract:
95
It has long been acknowleged that the main problem associated with the dying-out of community newspapers in Taiwan is due to the lack of financial support. This study focuses on looking at how the oldest community newspaper, Wen Shan Weekly, survived through the strategic alliance with local farmers’ associations in an effort to educate the local farmer community. This study is mainly based on: (1) a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with the management of local farmers’ associations; and (2) a content analysis of news articles in the ‘Farmers’ Section’ of Wen Shan Weekly from the period of 2003 to 2005. The purpose is to assess the effectiveness of educating the farmers through the cooperation of the Wen Shan Weekly and the Farmers’ Associations in the Wen Shan Region, Taipei, Taiwan. The research finding shows a positive triple-win situation among the community newspaper, the farmers’ associations, and the farmer community. Therefore, the study concludes and suggests: 1. Famers’ associations and community newspapers can share the training and employing of local media professionals. 2. Community newspapers can adapt the strategic alliance model of Wen Shan Weekly and the Wen Shan Region Farmers’ Association. 3. The news should be presented in a more balanced fashion in the Farmers’ News Section to fulfill not only farmers’ needs for educational information but also to provide news that appeals to their other intersests. 4. An open communication system should be established between community newspapers and the local organizations. 5. The government should encourage the cooperation of farmers’ associations and community newspapers. Key words: community education, community newspaper, farmers’ association, strategic alliance

Sugar-sweetened beverage taxation in the Region of the Americas. Pan American Health Organization, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.37774/9789275122990.

Abstract:
Sugar-sweetened beverage excise taxes are an effective evidence-based noncommunicable diseases (NCD) prevention policy. Along with tobacco and alcohol excise taxes, they are a tool to attain the Sustainable Development Goals, and are recommended by the World Health Organization to modify behavioral risk factors associated with obesity and NCDs, as featured in the WHO Global Action Plan. Taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages have been described as a triple win for governments, because they 1) improve population health, 2) generate revenue, and 3) have the potential to reduce long-term associated healthcare costs and productivity losses. Taxation of sugar-sweetened beverages has been implemented in more than 73 countries worldwide. In the Region of the Americas, 21 PAHO/WHO Member States apply national-level excise taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages and seven jurisdictions apply local sugar-sweetened beverage taxes in the United States of America. While the number of countries applying national excise taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages in the Region is promising, most of these taxes could be further leveraged to improve their impact on sugar-sweetened beverages consumption and health. This publication provides economic concepts related to the economic rationale for using sugar-sweetened beverage taxes and the costs associated with obesity; key considerations on tax design including tax types, bases, and rates; an overview of potential tax revenue and earmarking; evidence on the extent to which these taxes are expected to impact prices of taxed beverages, the demand for taxed beverages, and substitution to untaxed beverages; and responses to frequent questions about the economic impacts of sugar-sweetened beverage taxation.

AbstractThe policy idea of facilitating circular migration entered the European Union’s agenda more than a decade ago as part of a worldwide buzz among international organisations that it could provide a ‘triple win solution’ that would benefit all: the countries of origin and destination as well as the migrant workers themselves. According to the European Commission’s vision, this type of migration was to be facilitated in such a way as to allow some degree of legal mobility for migrants between two countries. Chapter 10.1007/978-3-030-52689-4_1 aims to introduce the understanding of this concept in the EU context and to set the scene for the book to unfold.

Abstract:
AbstractPoor physical and land use planning underpin the chaotic evolution and expansion in cities and towns in sub-Saharan Africa. This situation amplifies urban vulnerability to climate change. Worse, urban landscapes are rarely considered part of the discourse on urban development in sub-Saharan Africa, let alone in climate change adaptation. Yet, landscapes are known to play crucial roles in social, economic, and cultural resilience in cities and towns. Hence, designing basic forms of appealing and functional urban landscapes that support multiple ecosystem services is essential to the drive towards resilience, which relates to the ability to maintain or improve the supply of life support services and products (such as food and water) in the face of disturbance. In this chapter, the idea of transforming idle urban spaces into multifunctional edible urban landscapes is introduced and explored as instrumental for cost-effective adaptation and resilience to climate change in cities and towns in sub-Saharan Africa. Multifunctional edible urban landscape is defined here as a managed landscape that integrates food production and ornamental design, in harmonious coexistence with other urban structures to promote or provide targeted, multiple services. These services include food security, scenic beauty, green spaces for active living and learning, jobs and livelihoods support, environmental protection, climate adaptation, and overall urban resilience. This approach constitutes a triple-win multifunctional land use system that is beneficial to landowners, city managers, and the general community. This chapter explores the benefits, challenges, and prospects for practically transforming urban idle spaces into multifunctional edible urban landscapes using an example project from Ghana. The chapter shows that multifunctional edible urban landscape transformation for resilience is practically feasible, and sheds light on the possibility of the food production component paying for landscaping and landscape management. It concludes with thoughts on actions required across sectors and multiple scales, including mobilizing stakeholders, laws, policies, and incentives, to actualize multifunctional edible urban landscapes as key transformational components of resilience in sub-Saharan Africa.

However, active participation and collaboration of diverse stakeholders in collective processes like community development does not just happen; it requires a facilitator with the requisite tools and strategies. Given its unparalleled ability to support facilitator-moderated interactive and collaborative systems, online social networks are now at the frontiers of communication for development research and practices. This chapter presents social networking strategies for realizing participatory community development with triple-win outcomes in the developing countries. The thrust of the strategies is the formation of online community hub through the synergy of online and offline social networking, community network weaving, and use of diverse facilitated volunteered community information and service delivery systems. Sample implementation strategy is presented to demonstrate how to actualize the community informatics social networking technology through a pilot project to be conducted in selected communities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

Abstract:
Migrants who come from Georgia is one of the main issues in Turkey’s migration policy. Just like other Eastern Bloc Countries, after socialism collapsed in Georgia, its economy had many problems and impoverished many Georgia citizens. Therefore, Georgian people migrate to Turkey in a circular way in order to work or trade with the strategy for survival. Unfortunately, circular movements from Georgia to Turkey are not subject to a program and it causes many problems like illegal employment, bad living conditions and lack of migrants’ skill and knowledge development. The concept of circular migration and the effects of triple win solution are discussed theoretically in this study. Also a swot analysis of demographic and labor market of autonomous border region of Georgia is made and both negatives and positives of Georgian circular migration to Eastern Black Sea Region are analyzed. According to the results, it’s emphasized that a circular migration program between Georgia and Turkey is necessary to practice the triple win scenario. Triple win scenario supports many economic benefits for all three elements of circular migration, namely home and host countries and the migrants themselves, provided that there is a regulated circular migration. Several measures can be taken to prevent unregistered employment and poor working conditions of migrants, the most importantly the spontaneous circular movement between Georgia and Turkey can be transformed to programmed circular movement.

Abstract:
"Theory-building on workplace flexibility is extended, based on a critical Human Resource (HR) systems framework and paradox (conflict) perspective on employee-oriented vs. capacity-oriented flexibility. Differentiated are variabilities in HR practices by: a) content (functional, temporal, spatial, numerical, financial); b) control (employer, employee); and c) creation (top-down, bottom-up). Hybrid types of bottom-up initiated and top-down authorized flexibility, idiosyncratic deals (i-deals), describe mutually beneficial, negotiated agreements on non-standard working conditions between employees and employer. If their real-world manifestations reflect idealized assumptions, however, remains obscure. Integrating institutional logics, HR systems embody values of humanistic ideals vs. neoliberal ideology: (1) individuation vs. individualism; (2) solidarity vs. competition; (3) emancipation vs. instrumentality. Reflecting these antipodes, construed ideal-type and anti-type i-deals facilitate: (a) self-actualization vs. self-reliance (needs vs. interests); (b) common good vs. tournament situations (triple-win vs. winner-take-all); (c) social transformation vs. economic rationalization (development vs. performance). In humanistic management theory, i-deals increase employee-oriented flexibility, but, in reality, risk being co-opted for economic rationalization and divisive labor-political power strategies. Antagonistic applications involve: humanization vs. rationalization goals; egalitarian vs. elitist distribution; relational vs. transactional resources; need-based vs. contribution-based authorization; procedural vs. distributive justice; supplementing vs. substituting collective HR practices. Instrumental adoption in high-performance work environments likely facilitates harmful internalizations as subjectification and self-exploitation."

Abstract:
Engineering With Nature: An Atlas, Volume 2 showcases EWN principles and practices "in action" through 62 projects from around the world. These exemplary projects demonstrate what it means to partner with nature to deliver engineering solutions with triple-win benefits. The collection of projects included were developed and constructed by a large number of government, private sector, non-governmental organizations, and other organizations. Through the use of photographs and narrative descriptions, the EWN Atlas was developed to inspire interested readers and practitioners with the potential to engineer with nature.
