This paper aims to summarize current knowledge on the tropaion. The Warsaw Relief, held in the Gallery of Ancient Art at the National Museum in Warsaw, depicts Emperor Caracalla being crowned with a wreath of victory by his mother, who is shown as Victory. Opposite to the ruler is the title tropaion: a wooden post on which the armour and weapons of defeated enemies were hung (the enemies, in turn, are portrayed at the bottom of the structure). This motif, popular in the Roman world, dates back to at least the fifth century BC. Born in Greece, it was originally linked to the custom of offering

The Lord’s Birth Troparion represents a good example of the music style in Transylvania. Abstract:
"There are considered the features of the Cherubikons as a special troparion in the system of Orthodox worship. It is emphasized that the singing of the Cherubikon is characterized by extraordinary splendor and solemnity; historically, it always stood out noticeably from other chants. It is indicated that the style of the Cherubikons of various stages of the development of the liturgical singing was influenced by the general style panorama of that era. It is determined that, despite this, during each of the historical eras, significant samples of the Cherubikon were created, which retain visib

Among the ten celebrations of the Mass of St Basil in the Orthodox Church during the year are the conclusions to the three Vesper services immediately before the three major feasts of Christmas, Epiphany and Easter. Two of these Vesper services – those for Christmas Eve and the Eve of Epiphany – are of particular musical interest since they contain psalms with troparia or antiphons, for both of which the entire music can be transcribed from thirteenth-century manuscripts, so that these two services can be celebrated with what are, almost certainly, the oldest known complete examples of Byzanti
