Léontaridou, Théodora. "Le mythe troyen dans la littérature française." Paris 3, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008PA030013.
Full textFrom the 16th Century until the 20th, le troyan myth emerges in a variety of forms in French literature with famous or less known works but of equal significance as they convey the climate and the spirit of an era. The reason why all of these writers go into mythology could be partly explained by the imitation of ancients applied to the French letters of the 16th and 17th centuries. How this material is transformed, what the writers are expressing through the legends and the myths, which is the relationship of the transformed materiel with the initial, are some of the questions that this research is requested to explore. During the period of the Absolutism in which the freedom of expression is limited, the myth is proved to be a secure means which offers the security of the distance, the suitable frame and the flexibility of the mythological material which are processed by the creators. It becomes the vehicle of doubt and criticism of various grades against authority. The end of this political period removes from the myth this function. But it doesn’t stop its use in literature and the theater. This is because the myth is capable of putting again questions for the vital causes which deal with the human race, such as the woman, the war, the xenophobia
Desbois-Ientile, Adeline. "L’histoire écoutée aux portes de la mythologie : l’écriture du mythe troyen autour des Illustrations de Lemaire de Belges." Thesis, Paris 4, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015PA040144.
Full textThis dissertation studies historical writing and mythological fiction in the Renaissance, taking its starting point in the myth of the Trojan origins of the Franks. Although centered upon Lemaire de Belges’s Illustrations de Gaule et singularitez de Troye (1511-1513), a grand genealogical fresco containing the legendary narratives of the loves of Pâris and of the Trojan War, the corpus extends to a vast intertextual network that includes the works of Bouchet, Thenaud, Helisenne de Crenne, and Ronsard. The uniqueness of the Illustrations is such that it allows us to observe and analyze with conspicuous acuity the interactions, at the time of the Renaissance, between history and poetic fiction. In particular, it enables us to measure the extent to which fiction may be merged with historical narrative, and to articulate the distinctive features of the two writing styles from poetic, rhetorical, and stylistic points of view. On the one hand, we consider the history of the Trojan myth from the Middle Ages to the end of the Renaissance. On the other, we analyze the special treatment reserved for mythology within the work, showing that the Trojan myth is both a quest in search of the true origins of a people and a plausible narrative embellished in highly imaginative prose. Finally, observing the differences among the various parts of the work, we shed light on the tension between a neutral and matter-of-fact style of the sort required by historical writing and a newly invented “poetic prose” enriched with rhetorical devices and freshly crafted expressions. The Illustrations is thus seen to open an exceptional window upon the historical and poetic worlds of the Renaissance
Full textThis masters essay aims to understand the symbolism of the Ganymede mosaic of the House of Dionysus in Nea Paphos (Cyprus) dated to the end of the 2nd or the beginning of the 3rd century AD and to determine the room’s use. This double inquiry arises from the observation of the geometric details associated with the scene representing the rapt of the Trojan ephebe by an eagle. Firstly, the nature of the "rosette" associated with the figurative panel is analyzed with the iconographic documents and the ancient texts. The results of this analysis allow us to discuss the symbolic, ideological or philosophical-religious meaning that motifs would confer on the scene. Secondly, the arrangement of the "rosette" and other geometric patterns suggests that the room could have been used in a specific context. In addition to these decorative clues, the function of the room is also discussed according to architectural and planimetric data. Some conclusions about the symbolism that emerge from the study of the mosaic of Ganymede are then confronted with certain figured pavements found in the domus.

Full textThe myth of Troy provided more subject matter to 16th and 17th century French playwrights than any other ancient fable. The exceptional scope of this legend, the multitude of its scenes and characters, and the variety of available themes and viewpoints can partly explain this phenomenon. Yet this study seeks to demonstrate how the Trojan myth, through its unique legacy and structure, served as a model for exploring the problematics of an era marked by massive political and cultural transformation : the second half of the 16th century saw the birth of both the modern State and the modern theatre. Throughout the 150-year period which followed this simultaneous development, the use of the Trojan theme in different dramatic contexts can be understood in the light of the progression of aesthetic, political, ethical and theological ideas that accompanied the cultural transition at hand
Leleu, Adrien. "Dynamique des planètes coorbitales." Thesis, Paris 6, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PA066244/document.
Full textThis work focuses on the dynamics and the detection methods of co-orbital exoplanets. We call "co-orbital" any configuration in which two planets orbit with the same mean mean-motion around the same star. First, we revisit the results of the circular coplanar case. We also recall that the manifold associated to the coplanar case and the manifold corresponding to the circular case are both invariant by the flow of the averaged Hamiltonian. We hence study these two particular cases. We focus mainly on the coplanar case (eccentric), where we study the evolution of families of non-maximal quasi-periodic orbits parametrized by the eccentricity of the planets. We show that the geometry of these families is highly dependent on the eccentricity, which causes significant topology changes across the space of phases as the latter increases. A chapter is dedicated to the detection of co-orbital exoplanets. We recall the different detection methods adapted to the co-orbital case. We focus on the radial velocity technique, and the combination of radial velocity and transit measurements. Finally, we describe a method to study the effect of orbital perturbations on the spin-orbit resonances for a rigid body. We apply this method in two cases: the eccentric co-orbital case and the circumbinary case

This thesis proposes a framework to model intervention in education systems using technology: the Learning Atmosphere. The motivation is to show that innovative learning with expressive technologies can happen even in economically disadvantaged regions, such as public education systems in Brazil, where our case studies took place. The contribution of the thesis is to explore ways in which mutual enrichment can be achieved through collective displacements of habits and mindsets taken for granted. The case studies demonstrate the importance and possibility of a powerful learning experience that builds up from the local culture and expertise, elements often disregarded in schools. Technology plays a central role, enabling diverse and innovative ways of working, expressing and building. In addition, it makes possible epistemological diversity, empowering of students and fulfillment to teachers, reinforcing the community's own livelihood. The core elements within the Learning Atmosphere are: -- Enhance the concept of generative themes using technology. -- Mix and match expressive media, especially low-cost technologies. -- Invest on relationship building and challenge established power relations. The legend of the Trojan Horse has the important role of warning us against the easy way into schools, the trivialization of ideas and the superficial experiences that do not change the praxis and mindsets in schools.

Full textBased on an average town too often disregarded but a highly industrial one -troyes and his knitting industry-our study will follow three paths. The first part, a historical analysis, deals with the development of the knitting goods manufacturing in troyes and the aube region, from its prosperous times (1860-1960) to its climax (1960-1976) and its crisis (1976. . . ). Wich industrial capital interests are now at stake and for what sort of industrial city? the second part deals with the possibilities of an economic alternative and its geographical consequences, relying on the volontary diversification implemented during the grouth period (1950-1975). The study of the bases and the changes to the troyes geography shows the lasting predominance of the textile industry in this zone. The third part deals with the industrial aspect of the town, despite its crisis, the industrial layout and the planning policy. Whenever an industry exists within the town, shouldn't the public authorities set the rules, means and goals of a comprehensive management policy for this industry? this study of troyes, the knitting capital in crisis, leads to a local diagnosis; but it also conveys more general ideas about the concept of an industrial capital, the position of a provincial channels in the national process of "disindustrialisation", and the relation of public financing with local development as it is operated by local governement

Full textSubordination in the romances of Chretien de Troyes has been investigated in two different ways. First of all, a macroscopic study has been made to show how Chretien, in the twelfth century, used subordination in speech and narration in an inventive way. Then, this study has been completed by a microscopic approach consisting in analysing the various instruments of subordination represented by conjunctions and conjunctive locutions through statistical methods. Following this double approache, we have come to te conclusion that Chretien de Troyes was among those who have made the most elaborate researches on the possibilities offered by subordination

Full textAs we focus on historical and topographical aspects at a time when the production of manuscripts enables us to write history, we realize how powerful were urban seigniories throughout 12th and 13th c. Troyes. The enlargement of the urban network, the drying out of humid areas, and the development of surrounding walls for a better defence, earls, among whom Hugues and Henri Ist, gave conditions good enough for the populations to develop. We owe to fiats such a patchy aspect of the city. More, residents within the community were freed from their corporeal domination. Besides, when the nobility became scarce, all the conditions were gathered and as a result the religious establishment extended its power. The way our city developed leads us to put the stress on the vital role of the Religious, helped by juridical incitements from the Comtes de Champagne in the second half of the 12th century. That way ecclesiastical institutions became urban seigniories that can be seen through a group or maps. After codification at the Latran Council, priests exercised rights over parishes the extension of which was an area limited by customs deriving directly from first dotation. The parish network structured the urban environment around churches and monasteries which held control over every street and every household. The regressive approach enabled the establishment of a balancing of the said parishes, helped in this by original cartographies. With patron saints inspiring the neighbourhood and processions following a well-delimited itinerary, the priests and their parishioners sometimes joined processions led by bishops, offering thus a living spirituality which is the perfect conjunction of religious time and civic time. It seems that the parish network structured and united some areas with the population living there, and by so doing gave birth to rallies full of religious fervour in this human and divine city

Full textTroyes is a bright artistic centre at the end of the Middle Ages. Sites are numerous. Religious buildings are ornamented with stained glasses. Who orders them? Who are the stained glass workers? From the investigation realized from the Archives and from the stained glasses, the donors, clergymen or rich persons of Troyes, opened up to innovation, remain closed to tradition. Church has a preponderant part in choosing iconography. Among the fifty-one identified stained glass workers, twenty-three can be said stained glass artists. Generally, their works are included in the sites. Probably without any statutes, their workshops are small structures. In case of important demand, the stained glass artists form associations. They worked too in numerous churches of southern Champagne. Reproduction of stained glasses, associations, absence of works property and existence of nets of donors enable to interpret the apparent homogeneity of numerous stained glasses. The notion of Stained glass School of Troyes is confirmed and specified

Full textAlthough Alexander von Humboldt certainly perceived himself not as director of a museum, he was commited to the world of museums, libraries, and archives, not only as a visitor and reader, but also as a collector and researcher. Through his travels to America and Asia and in the course of a long scholarly life, he significantly increased many collections through his own activities as collector on site. His research in the field was not merely limited to aspects of the natural sciences, but inherently incorporated the most diverse objects of cultural research. In the light of what we today might call TransArea Studies, this transdisciplinary practice in the field can also be understood as transareal, thus as a conceptualization of research that spans across particular areas and focuses on the relationships, circulations and interactions of space beyond the territorial definitions. Consequently, we can recognize in Humboldt’s examination of the American tropics a double transareal association. On the one hand, his works interconnect the tropical world of different continents, while setting up on the other hand relations with the temperate zones in an extrapolation that outlines and explains global relations of nature - including the changing snow limits or the migration of plants, so crucial for the mobile science Humboldt advocated. For Humboldt, the tropics are the epitome of diversity and multiple connectedness. In other words: the transarea par excellence.

Full textApart from ancient works of local knowledge, whose data is often doubtful or inaccurate, the origins and the development of Christianity in a particular diocese have generally only been the object of brief review articles. However, the collection and collation of written, archaeological and toponymic sources allows the writing of a Christian history of the diocese of Troyes, from its origins to the end of the IXth century, an era of Viking’s invasions after which northern Gaul was the subject of deep political, social and religious changes. After establishing its geographical context, and stripping the legends left by the middle ages from the religious origins of the diocese, the analysis concerns itself first with the time period of, the setting and the participants in the first evangelization; followed by the Christian topography of the episcopal city describing the first monasteries and hermitages - witness to the widespread Christianization during the Merovingian era ; then the religious activity of the diocese during the IXth century and its place within the Christian history of northern Gaul ; and finally, the rural Christianization through the investigation of the creation of the parishes. The analysis first confined to the Christian town of Troyes, starting point of the evangelization, progresses to the diocese in order to give a picture of an expansive Christianity
