Although a large number of truck models have been put into service on the 1520 mm gage railways over the past ten years, the problem of an insufficient shear stiffness of a freight car truck still remains topical. This problem is a consequence of attempts to keep a sufficient degree of unification of new truck models with the 18-100 truck because this greatly simplifies the introduction of new trucks and allows one to make the best use of the existing maintenance and repair infrastructure. However, this also results in that new designs inherit many drawbacks of the 18-100 truck. One of its cri

Abstract:
Using a heuristic linear creep model, this study derives the governing differential equations of motion for the railway vehicle traveling on curved tracks. The railway vehicle is modeled as a car system with 27 degrees-of-freedom (DOFs), taking into account the lateral and vertical displacements, roll and yaw angles of the wheelsets and truck frames, as well as the lateral displacement, roll and yaw angles of the car body. The effects of railway vehicle speeds on the derailment quotients and offload factors related to running safety are evaluated by both the linear and nonlinear creep models f

Utilizing a nonlinear creep model, the dynamic behavior of tilting railway vehicles moving over curved tracks with rail irregularities and under earthquakes and wind loads is studied. The car model adopted consists of 28 degrees of freedom, capable of simulating the lateral, vertical, roll and yaw motions for the wheelsets, truck frames and car body. The derailment quotient is investigated to analyze the running safety of a tilting railway vehicle using the linear and nonlinear creep models, while considering the rail irregularities and environmental forces for various tilting angles. Monitoring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and worker proximity to heavy machinery are two areas where ensuring safety compliance on construction sites continues to be difficult. The lack of dynamic ambient circumstances, comprehensive annotations, and real-time video data in existing datasets restricts their applicability to real-world situations. In order to fill in these gaps, this work presents CSOD-24, a video dataset intended for construction site object detection and safety monitoring. The dataset includes 100 ten-second video clips (16.6 minutes total), covering four maj

A comprehensive research program is currently in progress to monitor and study the behavior and performance of the Confederation Bridge. Part of this program is on monitoring short- and long-term deflections to evaluate the deflection prediction techniques employed in the design of concrete structures in general and this bridge in particular. The investigation comprises measurements of parameters related to the materials used in the bridge. This paper presents some field measurements of vertical deflection as well as the results of computer analysis. Short-term deflections are measured at the

Notational analysis (NA) systems are regularly used to quantify sports performance but have not been adopted in competitive skateboarding. In this study, we aimed to develop an NA application to quantify outcome-related aspects of skateboarding judging criteria (trick selection, obstacle selection, and execution), leveraging known skatepark obstacles and trick classification from public broadcast footage (60 Hz) of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Men’s and Women’s semi-finals. We also assessed the intra- and inter-rater reliability of frame selection for key trick attempt events—take-off, event (obstac

Skewed supports complicate load paths in continuous steel I-girder bridges, causing secondary stresses and differential deformations. For a continuous bridge where tensile stresses are developed in the top flange of the steel girders over the intermediate supports, these effects may exacerbate potential fatigue issues for the top flanges. There is a gap in knowledge regarding the level of stress one can expect at these locations, and the stress level can render the problem either serious or trivial. This paper has been successful in providing this information, which was not available before. T

The increased global waste generation rates over the last few decades have made the waste management task a significant problem. One of the potential approaches adopted globally is to recycle a significant portion of generated waste. However, the contamination of recyclable waste has been a major problem in this context and causes almost 75% of recyclable waste to be unusable. For sustainable development, efficient management and recycling of waste are of huge importance. To reduce the waste contamination rates, conventionally, a manual bin-tagging approach is adopted; however, this is ineffic

State-of-the-art object detectors and trackers are developing fast. Trackers are in general more efficient than detectors but bear the risk of drifting. A question is hence raised – how to improve the accuracy of video object detection/tracking by utilizing the existing detectors and trackers within a given time budget? A baseline is frame skipping – detecting every N-th frames and tracking for the frames in between. This baseline, however, is suboptimal since the detection frequency should depend on the tracking quality. To this end, we propose a scheduler network, which determines to detect

The acceleration signals of both motor bogie frame and trailer bogie frame of a standard B-type metro train were measured. Running tests on the Metro line 21 of Guangzhou (China) were carried out. The acquired acceleration signals of bogie frames were analyzed through several methods to identify the dynamic characteristics of the motor and trailer bogies in the time-frequency domain.
