Full textThe main aim of this study is to analyse in detail different poems from different authors which reveal the way in which death comes to people and also explains how difficult it is, if someone has lost his/her lover. The first chapter reveals the general outline of the study, the problem statement, the aim, its significance and methodology. The most important terms of the study have been explained to be analysed. Chapter 2 explains defines and analysed the selected poems of different authors that reveal the ways in which death comes to living people. Chapter 3 deals with the general summary of this mini-dissertation. The recommendations for further research have been indicated in this chapter. Chapter 4 indicates a list of books which have been used in this mini-dissertation.

Full textThe main aim of this study is to evaluate protest poetry in Mihloti (1981) and Xikolokolo nguvu ya Pitori (1987) by J.M. Magaisa with special references to theme, subject matter and the use of figures of speech.. Chapter 1 indicates the aim of the study, motivation, statement of the problem, research methodology, literature review and the key concepts which are used in this research. Chapter 2 explains the themes of the protest poetry in Magaisa’s poetry. In some explanation of the themes, some of the figures of speech have been used with the aim of making readers to understand his poetry. Chapter 3 indicates the modes of expression in Magaisa’ protest poetry. Some of the figures of speech and difficult terms have been explained in this chapter make people to understand them. Chapter 4 is the general conclusion which indicates the findings of the research and recommendations for further researches.

Full textThis research ‘Nxopaxopo wa switlhokovetselo hi ku kongomisa eka tsalwa ra Swilo swa humelela’ hi KJ Ngobeni na SJ Malungana highlights what happens in schools nowadays in the era of democracy. There is lack of discipline in schools. Educators are not respected by learners. Circuit managers no longer pay visits to schools for inspection. Black people fought to dismantle separate development, racial segregation and in particular to overthrow the white minority regime commonly known as Apartheid. This research also gives the historical background of protest poetry, its characteristics and its causes. Lastly, we analyse twenty selected poems from Swilo swa humelela by K.J Ngobeni and S.J Malungana. This research consists of five chapters. Chapter one outlines the background to the research, its aim and definition of important terms used in the study. These are terms about poetry such as protest poetry, enjambment and rhetorical questions. This chapter will also present the literature review. Chapter two examines the research methodology used in the study. Explication of two types of research methods, namely qualitative and quantitative research methods are discussed. Chapter three deals with protest poetry in details, its characteristics, origin, causes and its functions. Chapter four gives a critical analysis of twenty selected poems from the book Swilo swa humelela by K.J Ngobeni na S.J Malungana. Chapter five looks at the general conclusion, which indicates the research findings and recommendations of the study.

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to examine praise poetry in Xitsonga (Tsonga) and other related aspects of verbal art. Praise poetry in Xitsonga (Tsonga) covers a very wide field of study as in other South African languages and seven chapters are devoted thereto in this study. In Chapter 1 an overview is given of the aim of the research. A comparative overview of praise poetry in ether African languages is also given. Chapter 2 deals with approaches and the methodology of the research and other topics. The performance approach and other complementary approaches are included. Chapter 3 is devoted to verbal art in general. The purpose of this chapter is to make one aware that praise poetry is a branch of verbal art. A few examples are analysed. Chapter 4 discusses praise poetry In Xitsonga in detail in socio-political, educational, socio-cultural, religious communication and economic contexts. Finally, mass media communication is discussed, for example, boast praise poetry by radio announcers and regular callers. Chapter 5 concentrates on the textual features of praise poetry in Xitsonga. This chapter aims to investigate some of the literary features and other linguistic or stylistic features, to indicate that they are also found in Xitsonga. Chapter 7 is the conclusion of the study, where the findings are summarised briefly.

Full textThis research focuses on the analysis of poems on the portrayal of women by the two Xitsonga poets: Magaisa, J.M., Mihloti and Xikolokolo Nguvu, ya Pitori and Marhanele, M.M. Vumunhu bya Phatiwa and Swifaniso swa Vutomi. The main focus will be on the influence of Xitsonga culture on their portrayal of women, basing the argument on what the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996 says. In Chapter 1, there is a problem statement, aims of the study, rationale for the study, the significance of the study, the methodology, referring to the collection of data, where there is a primary and secondary research methods, scope and delimitation of the study and the literature review. The focus on Chapter 2 is on the explanation of what culture is, that each culture has the good and the bad in it, no culture is static. Chapter 3 focuses on the techniques employed by the poets in their portrayal of women. The focus in Chapter 4 is on the functions of poetry, basing on different eras, that is, the apartheid and democratic South Africa. The analysis of the selected poems will be dealt with in Chapter 5, divided into the married and the unmarried women. Chapter 6 focuses on places where women are discriminated against. Chapter 7 is a conclusion of the dissertation, and also look at what can be done to alleviate this discrimination.

Lim Tsong-Guan is the first man and pioneer writing Taiwanese poems, also his native language, after World War II. He has insisted on writing his poetry in Taiwanese, and also claims that it may be called Taiwan Literature only written in Taiwanese languages included Formosan Austronesian, Holo Taiwanes and Hakafa. He has written over one thousand poems with broad subject matter, and being a very important poet in Taiwan with broadmined and universal view. He is definitely regarded as〝Father of Taiwanese potery〞. Lim Tsong-Guan has written over 200 Taiwanese poems with Love and Sex. 90% of them was written after he was 50 years old, and all of them is his experience to make love with his six lovers. It is a rare phenomenon in the world and mankinds. This paper tries at writing about 40 of The Love and Sex in LimTsong-Guan’s Taiwanese poems. The author of the paper has visited and interviewed Lim Tsong-Guan nearly 30 times, in the interview He has insisted his viewpoint that he writes poems with love and sex, because he wants to prove and serch the real love in mankind and the world.The most beautiful and extremely perfect feeling in making love must be based on the real love between two lovers, Lim proves that his inspirations in writing sex poems was based on the experience of making love with his beloved lovers.
