Abstract:
The horizontal displacement of the soil at the face of the subway tunnel is symmetrically distributed along the central axis of the tunnel, which is larger in the middle and smaller at both sides. The displacement is related to the size of the excavation face. If the excavation area is too great, the horizontal displacement of the tunnel face will be too large, easily leading to tunnel face collapse. For this reason, tunnel builders often use the core-keeping ring-cut method to build subway tunnels. A large section is divided into several small sections to reduce the soil displacement caused b

The stability analysis of the tunnel face is not only essential for guaranteeing the safe construction of urban shallow tunnels, but also directly affecting the influence degree of tunnel construction on nearby structures. The primary concerns in the stability analysis of the tunnel face are the instability mode of surrounding rocks and the limit support pressure on the tunnel face. In this paper, face stability of shallow tunnels in sands was conducted using a symmetrical model test. The tunnel face is stable for small section shallow tunnel, but it shouldn’t be ignored when tunnels for large diameter are driven in weak rock mass. According to test results, the formula for maximum deformation of tunnel face and test parameters are fitted by nonlinear regression method. Test value and predictive value have good correlation.

ABSTRACT This article aims at demonstrating how the use of advanced numerical methods such as the Finite Element Method can provide a reliable prediction of the different ground formation behavior and development of structural forces during tunnel construction. It will particularly illustrate how the challenges associated with TBM excavation in mixed faced conditions could be efficiently dealt with using the finite element analysis. More specially detailed numerical analysis techniques for dealing with the construction of closed twin tunnels in mixed face conditions will be provided using the

Abstract:
Steel fibers are typically used in ultra-high performance concretes (UHPC) to impart flexural ductility and increase fracture toughness. However, the mechanical properties of the steel fibers are underutilized in UHPC, as evidenced by the fact that most of the steel fibers pull out of a UHPC matrix largely undamaged during tensile or flexural tests. This research aims to improve the bond between steel fibers and a UHPC matrix by using steel wool. The underlying mechanism for fiber-matrix bond improvement is the reinforcement of the matrix tunnel, surrounding the steel fibers, by steel wool. Si
