Climate change, national and international targets and a possible impending fuel scarcity is driving the need for a clean, cheap and sustainable energy source. Although onshore wind is currently the most economically viable source of renewable energy, high failure rates often occurring many years prior to their design life, are increasing the cost through additional maintenance and downtime. The gearbox, and in particular the bearings within the gearbox are the components responsible for the largest proportion of downtime. Wind turbine gearbox bearings are the component that leads to the most downtime of operating wind turbines due to their high failure rates. Failures occur within 10 % of bearing design life, despite the fact that they are designed to the same bearing standards that satisfactorily predict bearing lifetime in many other industrial applications. No theory has yet been widely accepted to explain the reasons for this premature failure, despite intensive research effort and many theories have been suggested both from industrial and academic researchers alike. The wind industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years as a result of ever increasing concerns over fossil fuel power generation and the associated impact this has upon climate change. Wind turbine technology has however displayed relatively poor reliability from the outset, largely due to the highly variable nature of the wind, which subsequently places system components under extremely harsh loading conditions. Such reliability issues are becoming increasingly problematic for the wind turbine operator, as wind farms – and indeed the turbines themselves – continue to be up-scaled thus

This is accomplished through use of a de-aerator and breather. The oil air mixture enters the de-aerator first. The de-aerator is a vertical cylinder in which the air and oil enter from the top of the system. Gravity then pulls the oil down as it circulates along the outer wall of the de-aerator. A bearing has specific defect vibration frequencies which can be calculated from bearing design data. Short-time-Fourier transform, ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and fast kurtogram were signal processing methods for detecting bearing faults. These signal processing methods were used to analyze the dynamic responses from a rotor system with a damaged bearing and were compared to each other. Then, the methods

碩士
國立清華大學
動力機械工程學系
93
The development of modern turbine system is focused on the high speed rotor-bearing system, including dental hand-piece, portable micro-turbine generator, aviation turbine engine…etc. But, there are few papers for this respect. The paper, combined forefathers’ analysis experience, uses finite element method (FEM) to analyze and study the ball-bearing and the air-bearing dental hand-piece turbine systems. The object of the investigation is to develop a design and analysis method for the micro-turbine rotor-bearing system using finite element method (FEM), a
