Abstract:
Iberoamerican countries have been developing regional integration in cinema industry since 1960. The advantages of the integration were the reduction of the cost of producing films and the expansion of their distribution in local film markets. The fund for financing the production of films that has the longest history and the most widespread recognition in this region is the Ibermedia program, which has been functioning since the end of the 20th century. The article analyses the structure of film distribution of Iberoamerican countries: at the beginning of the XXI century the share of films produced by the USA in cinema was an average of 84%. The low representation of Iberoamerican films is partially compensated by Ibermedia-TV, which collects up to 500 million views. In contrast to the expansion of American film producers, the countries of the region are developing co-production (mainly with each other) under the Ibermedia program. The co-production leads to the growth of the cinema industry in Colombia and Chile. Co-production also plays the key role in both the production and distribution of films for the worldwide noticeable leaders of the region – Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Mexico. The main contribution to the development of cinema industry in Iberoamerica is the regional integration driven by Ibermedia.

Abstract:
Lifestyle is a TV genre that exists predominantly on the screens of Northern Europe and Anglophone countries such as the UK, the USA and Australia. Hence, lifestyle formats are not traded globally but rather trans-nationally within a distinct geo-linguistic region. Nonetheless, lifestyle programming is still produced very differently within this region according to the media systemic conditions of the specific national TV markets and the specific broadcasters and channels in question. As such, the lifestyle genre is indeed tremendously flexible and elastic and can be used in a diverse number of ways, catering for local broadcasters’ image and target groups, local markets’ competitive conditions, media regulations, and history. This article investigates the international extent of the genre and looks into possible explanations for its Anglophone and Northern European bias. Subsequently, the great elasticity of the genre is examined by way of a thorough analysis of the Australian and Danish versions of the program format The Block, which will demonstrate precisely how the genre can be adapted radically differently to suit two diverse broadcasters and their diverse conditions.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Serial narratives such as TV series have their own language, genres and narrative tools, according to their media specificities. It is observed that the television of today is going through a process of rapid cultural and technological transformations. Such advances have led to profound changes in the formats of the series, as well as in their modes of production and consumption. As for the production aspects, for example, we observe the creation of new narrative models in which the technological resources are shaped as extensions of the television product, creating a multiplatform or transmedial narrative experience. In this paper we will examine the case of the television series Sherlock by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, broadcasted by BBC, as an example of a program designed for a transmedia television, one that encouraged the emergence of an engaged audience willing to follow the series beyond the TV screen across other media platforms.***Na era da pós-TV: transmídia e fandom em Sherlock, de Moffat e Gatiss***Narrativas seriais como as séries de televisão possuem linguagem, gêneros e ferramentas narrativas próprias, conforme suas especificidades midiáticas. Abstract:
This study presents the results of an opinion pool among the users and residents of Mamirauá and Amanã Reserves in relation to the effectiveness of the communications broadcasted through the radio show “Ligado no Mamirauá” (Tunned into Mamirauá). This research was carried out between September and October 2004 aiming to support the planning of a new structure for this radio show, based on the perception of its main listeners. “Ligado no Mamirauá” has been broadcasted every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. by Tefé Rural Radio Station for more than ten years. This research was conducted among listeners at the age of 16 or older, residents and users of these two protected areas. Semi-structured questionnaires were applied to gather opinions about what listeners consider the most relevant subjects, their evaluation of the information offered by the broadcast, their preferences of time shifts and days of the week for a new broadcasting plan. Besides these pools, data about their access to current means of diffusion and information dissemination (radio and TV), and about the conditions of the equipment used were also registered in the individual interviews. The analysis has shown that “Ligado no Mamirauá” needs to broadcast more clear subjects, related to basic local needs, such as health, education, citizenship, and to give opportunity to popular participation during the programs so to strengthen its audience, providing means to establish a participative dialogue about social and environmental development of the protected areas, yet informing more frequently the local opinion (throughout community participation in the radio program) about the work and research carried out by Mamirauá Institute towards the improvement of life quality in the local communities, and about their strengthening as social actors, responsible for the conservation of their own environment.

Abstract:
Palavras-chave: Extensão Universitária; Jornalismo; Educomunicação Remote-supported self-care for people with peripheral arterial disease Abstract: Combining the concepts of journalism teaching, university extension, and educommunication, in 2019, Em Foco Laboratorial Journalism carried out an extension action that proposed a social intervention focused on media production for education. This article aims to show the results of the impact of this initiative on university students and high school students at Colégio Dom Bosco, in Campo Grande, MS, a project partner. The proposal was to formulate a television program, combining information and entertainment, that addressed subjects of interest to students and how this product could be used, later, in future classes at high school. Through previous research and, according to the demands of school content, students chose two themes to be discussed in two Em Foco TV programs. While journalism scholars practiced journalism in the construction of reports, guided by teachers, high school students got to know the backstage of a television program and were able to participate, as an audience and interviewers, in the live recording of two programs at the school. This interaction between the teams of students and teachers resulted in positive impacts for the community and the extension workers, as they demonstrated in qualitative research to which they were submitted shortly after the experience. Pettersson, Hannes. ""Kissing Cousins" : En kritisk diskursanalys av hur homosexualitet framställs i utvalda anime och hur de behandlats i de amerikanska versionerna av dessa." Thesis, Karlstad University, Faculty of Economic Sciences, Communication and IT, 2008. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kau:diva-1732.

Full text
Abstract:

The purpose of the thesis is to explore how homosexual discourses are represented in chosen japanese children’s cartoons (anime) and how these have been altered when imported to the USA.

With benchmark of Norman Fairclough’s discourse analysis model, key scenes from the chosen anime Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon have been analysed from a queer theoretical perspective.

In the anime I have studied, homosexual characters are represented with respect and it's rarely focused on homosexuality. However, some heteronormative patterns appear in the sense of masculinity and femininity being supplements also when it comes to same-sex couples. Moreover homosexuality is not always obvious in it's representations, which can either be a sign of trying to make it invisible or include it on the same conditions as heterosexuality. In the American versions, homosexuality has been totally censored with methods such as scene cuts and altered dialouges. In one case a man was made into a woman, making the relationship heterosexual. In another case a couple was made into cousins instead of lovers.

Due to the large amount of television content, which emerged from the Digital TV, viewers are facing a new challenge, how to find interesting content intuitively and efficiently. The Personalized Electronic Programming Guides (pEPG) arise as an answer to this complex challenge. We propose TrendTV a layered architecture that allows the formation of social networks among viewers of Interactive Digital TV based on online microblogging. Associated with a pEPG, this social network allows the viewer to perform content filtering on a particular subject from the indications made by other viewers of his network. Allowing the viewer to create his own indications for a particular content when it is displayed, or to analyze the importance of a particular program online, based on these indications. This allows any user to perform filtering on content and generate or exchange information with other users in a flexible and transparent way, using several different devices (TVs, Smartphones, Tablets or PCs). Moreover, this architecture defines a mechanism to perform the automatic exchange of channels based on the best program that is showing at the moment, suggesting new components to be added to the middleware of the Brazilian Digital TV System (Ginga). The result is a constructed and dynamic database containing the classification of several TV programs as well as an application to automatically switch to the best channel of the moment

The thesis is about Japanese "boke" and "tsukkomi" which can be seen even in the conversation of Japanese conversation. I want to clarify how it is being used by a Japanese native speaker because it seems that the interpersonal relationship between those who utter it can be maintained, and the relationship can be strengthened through the "boke" and "tsukkomi". In this thesis, I want to understand what is the difference point of "boke" and "tsukkomi" which in the television program and the daily conversation. It seems that communications with a Japanese native speaker go well further if the result can be presented to the studying Japanese people. There are two research objects in this thesis that is about the television program data and the conversation data in daily life. "boke", "tsukkomi" to the other one, and "tsukkomi" to myself, in both data are separately taken up, and the listener''s reaction to of each has been analyzed. "boke・tsukkomi" in both data is divided into six patterns by appearance presence and order, and each operation frequency has been examined. In the result of the survey of the thesis, the characteristic of "boke" and "tsukkomi" in the daily conversation and the television program has the spending difference point. But we can also understand that a lot of same tendencies are existed. Therefore, Japanese learner can understand "boke・tsukkomi" by referencing which in the television program.

Abstract:
Today, with increased internet access, users are often interested in new content-based multimedia applications of high added value such as interactive TV, video on demand (VoD), and catch-up TV services such as YouTube or Dailymotion frameworks. Despite the easy and rapid access to media information of these services, they present the risk of the wide propagation of fake news. As a solution, the authors propose that the input for these services must be from a trustworthy traditional media, precisely TV program content. So, the automatic process of TV program identification and their internal segmentation facilitate the availability of these programs. In this chapter, the major originality of the authors' approach is the use of contextual and operational characteristics of TV production rules as prior knowledge that captures the structure for recurrent TV news program content. The authors validate their approach by experiments conducted using the TRECVID dataset that demonstrate its robustness.

Abstract:
California wild and forest fires in 2017 resulted in over 100 fatalities. While WEA alerts were transmitted to mobiles in selected areas, the power and network outages limited their delivery. WEA is similar to the SMS Broadcast system used elsewhere. It does not require subscription, and can be geotargeted, usually by map polygon. There are already available and in development other alerting technologies. The Emergency Alert System on radio and TV in the U.S. has been in use for many years. It is a broadcast break-in system the overrides program content. This was used in one location for the wildfires, but not elsewhere as geotargeting is not possible with this system. It is and analog broadcast technology architecture. AM and FM Broadcast in the U.S. now has HD Radio that is mixed analog and digital. A limited data message can be carried and used for selective delivery of messages. DAB, DAB+ and DRM also can carry a message payload, which can be used for a selective delivery mechanism when the receiver has location position. This may be in a vehicle radio/navigation system. The current digital television system in the U.S. and some other countries is now being replaced by ATSC 3.0. This provided a superior modulation format, Layered Division Multiplexing (LDM) for delivery of program content and alerts to suitable mobiles. An IC for UHF reception and prototype mobiles have been developed. No external antenna is required. Bothe of these new technologies are tested as delivering alerts independently of the mobile network. Within the limitations of radio and TV propagation, such capabilities would provide technology redundancy. The television signal propagation may be limited in rural areas, but ATSC 3.0 is capable of having on frequency repeaters to make a single frequency network for improved coverage of program content and alerting. Multilingual alerts based on the CAP Event Terms list with Message Formats are being provided for.

Owen, Robert S. "Use of the Secondary Task Technique for Tracking User Attention." In Encyclopedia of Human Computer Interaction. IGI Global, 2006. http://dx.doi.org/10.4018/978-1-59140-562-7.ch101.

Abstract:
The notion that the human information processing system has a limit in resource capacity has been used for over 100 years as the basis for the investigation of a variety of constructs and processes, such as mental workload, mental effort, attention, elaboration, information overload, and such. The dual task or secondary task technique presumes that the consumption of processing capacity by one task will leave less capacity available for the processing of a second concurrent task. When both tasks attempt to consume more capacity than is available, the performance of one or both tasks must suffer, and this will presumably result in the observation of degraded task performance. Consider, for example, the amount of mental effort devoted to solving a difficult arithmetic problem. If a person is asked to tap a pattern with a finger while solving the problem, we might be able to discover the more difficult parts of the problem solving process by observing changes in the performance of the secondary task of finger tapping. While a participant is reading a chapter of text in a book or on a Web browser, we might be able to use this same technique to find the more interesting, involving, or confusing passages of the text. Many implementations of the secondary task technique have been used for more than a century, such as the maintenance of hand pressure (Lechner, Bradbury, & Bradley, 1998; Welch, 1898), the maintenance of finger tapping patterns (Friedman, Polson, & Dafoe, 1988; Jastrow, 1892; Kantowitz & Knight, 1976), the performance of mental arithmetic (Bahrick, Noble, & Fitts, 1954; Wogalter & Usher, 1999), and the speed of reaction time to an occasional flash of light, a beep, or a clicking sound (e.g., Bourdin, Teasdale, & Nourgier, 1998; Owen, Lord, & Cooper, 1995; Posener & Bois, 1971). In using the secondary task technique, the participant is asked to perform a secondary task, such as tapping a finger in a pattern, while performing the primary task of interest. By tracking changes in secondary task performance (e.g., observing erratic finger tapping), we can track changes in processing resources being consumed by the primary task. This technique has been used in a wide variety of disciplines and situations. It has been used in advertising to study the effects of more or less suspenseful parts of a TV program on commercials (Owen et al., 1995) and in studying the effects of time-compressed audio commercials (Moore, Hausknecht, & Thamodaran, 1986). It has been used in sports to detect attention demands during horseshoe pitching (Prezuhy & Etnier, 2001) and rock climbing (Bourdin et al., 1998), while others have used it to study attention associated with posture control in patients who are older or suffering from brain disease (e.g., Maylor & Wing, 1996; Muller, Redfern, Furman, & Jennings, 2004). Murray, Holland, and Beason (1998) used a dual task study to detect the attention demands of speaking in people who suffer from aphasia after a stroke. Others have used the secondary task technique to study the attention demands of automobile driving (e.g., Baron & Kalsher, 1998), including the effects of distractions such as mobile telephones (Patten, Kircher, Ostlund, & Nilsson, 2004) and the potential of a fragrance to improve alertness (Schieber, Werner, & Larsen, 2000). Koukounas and McCabe (2001) and Koukounas and Over (1999) have used it to study the allocation of attention resources during sexual arousal. The notion of decreased secondary task performance due to a limited-capacity processing system is not simply a laboratory curiosity. Consider, for example, the crash of a Jetstream 3101 airplane as it was approaching for landing, killing all on board.

"The Americans are probably the most parochial people on earth. (Fowler 1991) Needless to say, they didn’t like it over there [in the USA]. (Harvey 1991) Thus Grundy’s account of the failure in the US of its most successful soap, as voiced respectively by the company’s Senior vice-president of marketing in Los Angeles, its senior vice president of business affairs in Sydney, and its Sydney publicity manager. This tale of failure contrasts starkly with that of Neighbours’s British success. Grundy’s tried out the US market by syndicating the program in a thirteen-week batch, episodes one to sixty-five, to two independent stations, KCOP/13 in Los Angeles and WWOR/9 in New York. In Los Angeles it screened Monday–Friday at 5:30 p.m. from June 3–28, 1991 before being rescheduled at 9:30 a.m. Monday–Friday from July 1–August 30, 1991. In its first and third weeks Neighbours rated 4 per cent of TV sets in the Los Angeles area, which has forty-one channels; in its fifth week, the first at 9:30 a.m. the figure dropped to 1 per cent, and thereafter it never picked up (Inouye 1992). The program was also stripped by WWOR in New York. There it ran at 5: p.m. from June 17 to September 17, 1991, with its audience averaging 228,000 – a poor figure – in its best month, July (Stefko 1992). Plans to extend its screenings to Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta, and Phoenix appear to have foundered. Unlike the British case, explanations of Neighbours’s failure in the US market are drawn more from its seller, Grundy, and its buyers, KCOP and WWOR, than from the press, which in Britain sought to account for the program’s colossal success. Press coverage heralded the opening of Neighbours in the US, and subsequently ignored it (the commentaries come from seven dailies and weeklies and Variety in Alexander 1991; Goodspeed 1991; “Gray.” 1991; Kelleher 1991; Kitman 1991; Mann 1991; Rabinowitz 1991; Roush 1991). Belonging mostly to the journalistic genre of announcing a likely new popular cultural success arriving with a remarkable foreign track- record, these commentaries were closer to advertorial than to the customarily more “objective” genre of film reviewing. But since they were not advertisements as such, they did give indicative prognostications of the acceptability of a program such as Neighbours in the US market. The commentaries’ treatment of the ten textual factors contributing to Neighbours’s global successes yield important insights. The last eight categories gave these commentators no pause: women as doers, teen sex appeal, unrebellious youth, wholesome neighborliness, “feelgood” characters, resolution of differences, depoliticized middle-class citizenship, and writing skills. Indeed, all eight are clearly instanced in the highly successful Beverley Hills 90210 with the marginal modifications that their neighborliness is more school- than home-based, “middle class” is defined upwards from petit bourgeois, and writing skills are devoted." "to less prosaic representations. That five of the commentaries are positive in their evaluation of Neighbours, two neutral, and only one negative suggests the broad potential acceptability of the program to the US market (only one publication, the Wall Street Journal, has the kind of highbrow readership which might encourage its television critics to sneer at popular material such as soaps). The two textual features of Neighbours which do draw comment – the everyday, and the domestic and suburban – point to a crucial first feature of the US “mediascape,” in particular its “soapscape,” namely the preference for the exceptional, the non-domestic, the non-suburban. In US soaps, it is well known, the pole of melodrama exercises greater attraction than the pole of realism (cf. Geraghty 1991: 25–38) – in contrast to Australian and British soaps. These two textual aspects of Neighbours are a central theme of the US commentaries, combining under the rubric of the non-exceptional, the “realistic.” All the commentaries bar the sole negative one (Kitman 1991: 23) refer positively to Neighbours’ “realism,” often in contradistinction to the perceived artificiality of US soaps. Peter Pinne, the program’s executive producer, is twice quoted to just this effect (Goodspeed 1991: 22; Mann 1991: 28), while USA Today (Roush 1991: 15) applauds “how close the residents of Ramsey Street seem to our own suburban counterparts,” and notes that “its casual gossip and unexceptional lifestyle [are] closer to the early days of Knots Landing than to any current soap.” The redoubtable Wall Street Journal does not sneer, but praises a television version of middle- and lower-class life that is at ease with itself and singularly lacking in . . . the self-consciousness and discomfort that attends American television’s efforts to portray uneducated white working-class types . . . . [Its] characters . . . ought to be more recognisable to Americans than the peculiar beings that inhabit the worlds of our home-grown TV dramas . . . . [They] actually converse with one another in the way that people do – without declaiming or the rat-a-tat of one-liners, or recitals of a position on the latest hot social theme. If the beat of their daily lives is unhysterical – quiet, in fact – it is also eventful. (Rabinowitz 1991: 17) The Wall Street Journal takes a refreshing distance from the infamous “Greed is good” dictum voiced in Oliver Stone’s film, Wall Street! Given Neighbours’s atypicality in the realm of US soaps, its American reference points are either Knots Landing – which one British journalist described as “the nearest the Americans can bear to get to a soap about ordinary people” (Kingsley 1989: 226) – or US sitcoms (Kelleher 1991: 36; Rabinowitz 1991: 17). Buyer and seller agreed that its non-exceptional “realism” was one reason for Neighbours’s failure in the US “soapscape.” KCOP described it as “less raunchy than US soap operas, too wholesome” (Moran 1992). Its seller, Bob Cristal, added that." In To Be Continued... Routledge, 2002. http://dx.doi.org/10.4324/9780203131855-21.

Abstract:
The responsibility of training researchers in the use of statistics in China belongs to colleges, universities and research institutes. There is a National Statistical Education Association. Under the Association, the Higher Education Branch is an organisation of colleges, universities and research institutes who have a major in statistics or a statistics faculty. Since China has a population of 1.25 billion and more than 100 thousand official statisticians in the whole country, statistics training is a huge task. There are degree and non-degree training programs. In the degree program, there are undergraduate programs (colleges and universities) and graduate programs (colleges, universities and research institutes). In the non-degree training, different training programs have been used. Statistical methods are widely used in almost all the fields. The most important application areas are: official statistical work including sampling survey and data processing, micro-economic analysis, management and quality improvement, medical application, agriculture and industry experiment, etc. Most researchers in the above fields need to be trained. Many patterns have been used in training. Class teaching, group discussion, field training, TV, broadcasting programs and Internet are the main patterns.

In ASME 2011 14th International Conference on Environmental Remediation and Radioactive Waste Management. ASMEDC, 2011. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/icem2011-59095.

Abstract:
Posiva Oy is responsible for implementing the program for geological disposal of spent nuclear fuel in Finland. Olkiluoto in Eurajoki has been selected as the primary site for the repository, subject to further detailed characterization which is currently focused on the construction of an underground rock characterization and research facility (the ONKALO). An essential part of the site investigation program is analysis of groundwater flow and solute transport to depth by means of numerical flow modeling as part of the 2011 site descriptive model. Groundwater flow in the crystalline rocks at Olkiluoto takes place predominantly in the void space of the interconnected fractures in the bedrock. Many of the hydraulic characteristics of flow through such a system can be represented by hydrogeological Discrete Fracture Network (hydro-DFN) models, since they capture some of the details of fracture geometry, size, connectivity and openings. The paper describes how field data is used to derive such models, ultimately for use in safety assessment. Surface based site investigations at Olkiluoto include 53 vertical or inclined deep core drilled boreholes and 27 shallower sub-vertical boreholes. The characterization of fractures is a key objective. Fracture geometrical data (fracture positions and orientations) are determined from drill core mapping and/or borehole TV images, while hydraulic data are determined with the Posiva Flow Log (PFL). The PFL method is a geophysical logging device developed to detect continuously flowing fractures in sparsely fractured crystalline bedrock by means of difference flow logging, providing the effective transmissivity of individual fracture intercepts. A methodology developed originally in the Swedish program for constraining hydrogeological DFN models based on the PFL high resolution hydraulic test data has been extended to incorporate data from underground. The approach integrates deterministic models of the main hydro-structures with a stochastic model of the bedrock between. An exploration of conceptual uncertainties in the representation of the very scarce distribution of flow at repository depth, c. 400m, has been performed. This has been greatly informed by the analysis of 15 additional sub-horizontal boreholes drilled ahead of the ONKALO tunnel excavations. Conditions for PFL hydraulic tests performed in these pilot holes provide a lower detection limit and reveal the very low magnitude of groundwater flow that may be expected around the repository depositional volumes.

Abstract:
Camera elevator is the dominating device of the manipulator crane closed circuit TV system which is used in under constructing domestic PWR in China. The manipulator operator can use camera elevator to view refueling operation (insertion and withdrawal) and other underwater condition. This document expatiates on the independent design of camera elevator control system which is integrated on manipulate crane control system. The success of the design will provide conveniences to the operator to let him to operate both hoist and camera elevator. To contribute to the invention of manipulator crane control system in PWR, the control of camera elevator, which is the main part of the system, is developed totally. The camera elevator control system is mainly composed of power distribution part, PLC control part, HMI control part, Servo-motor drive part, position measuring part, weight measuring part and safety protection part. The control design includes requirement corresponding, electrical product selection and configuration, PLC software program development, Servo-motor drive software setting, HMI and control panel design and so on. The document is very detailed to describe the control design process and emphasizes the software development. The logic controller is consisted of two systems, one is standard logic controller and other one is safety controller. The PLC software is the most important technique which includes whole control logic of device and all interlock protect function. The Servo-motor drive software can guarantee motor has good dynamic characteristic and short response time. The HMI design can provide most of operational information, fault alarm display, interlock and bypass operations etc. The control design has been validated by lots of test to assure the camera elevator’s function is up to related specification requirement finally.

"Usability Evaluation after a 6-month Tablet-based Dementia Training Program by People with Alzheimer’s Disease, Relatives, and Dementia Trainers." Abstract:
Non-pharmacological interventions, like tablet-based cognitive trainings, already present an important alternative treatment of dementia. For tablet-based cognitive trainings to be effective, regular practice seems to be required, highlighting the need for such trainings to be applicable not only in well-prepared laboratory settings, but also for continuous use at home. In order to raise the acceptance as well as the user-friendliness of such trainings to consequently increase training intensity, usability research is essential. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the experiences of people with Alzheimer’s disease (PwAD), relatives, and dementia trainers regarding the usability of a tablet-based dementia training practiced in the home setting.A qualitative study was performed within the ongoing randomized controlled trial of the project multimodAAL. In total 15 individual interviews (each 5 per target group) were conducted with people with mild AD, their relatives and dementia trainers, who were already assigned to the intervention group for at least 6 months, practicing a dementia training program, including physical and cognitive exercises on a tablet-PC at home. The interviews lasted 91.9 minutes on average. A qualitative content analysis was performed to analyze the data.Participants were predominantly female (73.3 %). PwAD and relatives stated that they had no previous experience with this type of computer-based cognitive training and had experienced the training as positive and enriching. Some relatives saw the joint performance as a meaningful activity with their loved ones. Participants confirmed that the different types of physical exercises (e.g., coordination, strength), presented in a video format were well feasible for PwAD. In this regard, some PwAD reported feeling a bit unchallenged. Relatives and dementia trainers recommended for the exercise videos to be more motivating and fun (e.g., direct motivational address by the gymnast in the video like in a tv show, colorful sportswear). Regarding cognitive exercises, participants appreciated the variety (e.g., quiz, puzzle, calculating) as well as the sequence of the different exercises within a training session. Dementia trainers and relatives perceived that exercises related to topics about past/biography (e.g., previous occupation, hobbies) and to religious/seasonal traditions (e.g., Christmas) were particularly appreciated among PwAD. In view of beneficial factors to complete a training session with its physical and cognitive exercises successfully, relatives and dementia trainers underlined that PwAD needed support in terms of (technical) guidance, motivation/feedback/praise, as well as hints/tips/thought-provoking impulses. Dementia trainers and relatives suggested that this could be achieved by a supporting person (e.g., dementia trainer) or an expansion of the program by written and verbal support (e.g., hint button, voice assistant). Furthermore, participants emphasized the need of a tablet pen for comfortable handling, as well as a high sensitivity of the tablet-PC's touch screen. The results show that the already applied tablet-based dementia training is well received and accepted by participants. However, there is still potential for enhancement regarding motivational and feedback strategies as well as user-friendliness by the addition of a comprehensive application for guiding through the physical and cognitive exercises to enable more independent practice sessions.

The female condom: Dynamics of use in urban Zimbabwe. Population Council, 2002. http://dx.doi.org/10.31899/hiv2002.1001.

Full text
Abstract:
In July 1997, Population Services International (PSI), at the request of the Zimbabwe National AIDS Coordination Programme, launched a social marketing program for the female condom in Zimbabwe. The campaign's intended audience was women in long-term relationships. To avoid the stigma associated with condoms and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, PSI marketed the female condom as a family planning product under the brand name Care™. Approximately one year after the start of the female condom social marketing campaign, the Horizons Program and PSI conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional study of female condom users, male condom users, and nonusers of either barrier method. At the time of the study, the female condom was being marketed in urban Zimbabwe through radio, TV, and print media, and sold through selected sales outlets, including pharmacies, large supermarkets, and convenience stores at a subsidized price. As stated in this brief, the goal of this research was to increase understanding of the patterns and dynamics of female condom use to inform policymakers and program planners involved in decisions about promotion and distribution of the female condom in Zimbabwe.
