Abstract:
<p>Twarze są bardzo ważnym bodźcem o znaczeniu adaptacyjnym, który ułatwia człowiekowi funkcjonowanie w społeczeństwie dzięki przekazywaniu wielu przydatnych informacji. Twarze przekazują informacje na temat tożsamości napotkanych osób, ich płci, rasy, stanu emocjonalnego, zainteresowań i atrakcyjności. Informacje te są odczytywane i interpretowane przez ludzi. Należy podkreślić, że tematyka percepcji twarzy była – w porównaniu do innych zagadnień związanych z poznaniem, takich jak pamięć, język czy uwaga – przez psychologów poznawczych badana niechętnie, a opisy percepcji twarzy we wczesnych podręcznikach psychologii poznawczej są nadzwyczaj skromne. Obszar związany z badaniami ekspresji mimicznej został o wiele lepiej opisany i rozpropagowany, głównie dzięki serii badań przeprowadzonych przez P. Ekmana i jego współpracowników. Badacze dysponują wiedzą na temat związków pomiędzy cechami osobowości a ekspresjami emocjonalnymi ludzkich twarzy. Wielu naukowców także uważa, że niemożliwe jest zrozumienie procesów ekspresji emocjonalnej bez wzięcia pod uwagę różnic indywidualnych. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono teorie i badania dotyczące pamięci i percepcji twarzy.</p>

Abstract:
W artykule przeanalizowano wyniki badań eye trackingowych osób z zaburzeniami ze spektrum autyzmu w sytuacji percepcji bodźców społecznych, w perspektywie ich znaczenia dla praktyki pedagogicznej. We wstępie zawarto podstawowe informacje dotyczące istoty procesu widzenia oraz znaczenia ruchów gałek ocznych, zarówno dla tworzenia reprezentacji rzeczywistości, jak i skutecznego działania. Zwrócono również uwagę na zasadność wykorzystania techniki w badaniach osób z ASD. W dalszej części tekstu dokonano prezentacji wyników badań opisujących aktywność okoruchową osób z ASD podczas percepcji twarzy i scen społecznych, odwołując się głównie do prac przeglądowych z zakresu omawianej problematyki opublikowanych w ciągu ostatnich dwóch dziesięcioleci. Analiza zaprezentowanego materiału wskazuje przede wszystkim na specyficzne wzorce aktywności okoruchowej osób z ASD w sytuacjach społecznych oraz osłabienie zainteresowania kontaktem z twarzą, szczególnie zaś unikanie eksplorowania rejonu oczu. Jednocześnie badacze dowodzą, że mechanizm preferencji ludzkich twarzy nie jest nieobecny w chwili urodzenia, lecz ulega stopniowemu osłabieniu, uniemożliwiając osobom z ASD pozyskiwanie kluczowych informacji dla prawidłowego kontaktu z innymi osobami. Z przeprowadzonych analiz wynika ponadto, że prezentowane wzorce skanowania twarzy mogą stanowić potencjalny biomarker zaburzenia, umożliwiając wczesną diagnostykę. Uzyskane wyniki stanowią istotne źródło danych nie tylko dla naukowców dążących do rozpoznania istoty zaburzenia, ale również dla praktyków, wskazując na znaczenie wczesnych treningów widzenia i planowania treningów umiejętności społecznych z uwzględnieniem specyficznych potrzeb badanych związanych ze wzrokową analizą scen wizualnych.

Abstract:
Artykuł podejmuję próbę ustalenia znaczenia symboliki światła, która pojawia się w narracji synoptyków o przemienieniu Jezusa. W tej perykopie można wyróżnić następujące elementy związane ze światłem: promieniująca twarz Jezusa jak słońce, lśniąco biała szata oraz świetlisty obłok. Synoptycy wykorzystują metaforę światła, żeby opisać rzeczywistość transcendentną, która ukazuje się wybranym uczniom. Motyw światła w epifaniach stanowi zrozumiałą w żydowskim i hellenistycznym środowiskach oznakę przynależności do świata nadprzyrodzonego. Promieniująca światłość stanowi atrybut boskości Jezusa oraz wskazuje na wywyższenie Jego człowieczeństwa. W synoptycznej narracji o przemienieniu Jezusa można znaleźć wspólne elementy z teofanią na Synaju i promieniowaniem twarzy Mojżesza.

„What does the Face Express?” – Recognition of Emotional Facial Expressions in Deaf and Hearing People An analysis of emotional functioning of deaf people is important for understanding their activities in different areas of life. Emotional functioning is related to emotional intelligence, which involves emotion perception and recognition as well as emotional expressiveness. The aim of the study was to compare the ability to recognize facial emotional expression among deaf and hearing people. The present study was conducted on 80 individuals (40 deaf people and 40 hearing people). The Emotional Intelligence Scale – Faces (Matczak, Piekarska, Studniarek, 2005) and a set of photographs used by Paul Ekman in his study of basic emotions were used for the data collection. The results obtained show that deaf people differ from hearing people in recognizing facial expressions. The analysis was conducted in terms of differences in recognition of expression of basic and complex emotions. The study included variables such as the moment of hearing loss (congenital or acquired deafness) or upbringing with deaf or hearing parents.

Artykuł stanowi analizę filmu Długa noc (reż. Janusz Nasfeter, 1967) oraz dyskusji kolaudacyjnej, która odbyła się w czerwcu 1967 roku, dotyczącej walorów filmu i jego ewentualnego dopuszczenia do dystrybucji. Tak temat filmu (pomoc Żydowi ukrywającemu się podczas okupacji w polskim domu), jak okoliczności jego kolaudacji (kilka dni po zwycięstwie Izraela w wojnie sześciodniowej) sprawiają, że można Długą noc potraktować jako model: i samo dzieło, i jego odbiór w dużym stopniu bowiem są charakterystyczne dla polskiej pamięci o postawach wobec Żydów w czasie wojny, form jej ekspresji w polskim kinie oraz języka debaty publicznej na ten temat.

Abstract:
Above all, Krzysztof Zanussi is known to Polish viewers as the author of popular cinema films such as The Structure of Crystal (1969), The Illumination (1972) and Camouflage (1976). However, it should be remembered that the director has repeatedly cooperated with television – both domestic and foreign. Nowadays, television films that foreshadowed the movement called cinema of moral concern, produced in Poland at the time of the Polish People’s Republic, are poorly present within film discourse. The aim of this article is to recreate (and compare with each other) the former and contemporary reception of these films, discussed at different intervals in popular or professional periodicals and, what is an increasingly frequent phenomenon, referenced in the Krzysztof Zanussi’s monographs.

Abstract:
In this study, tensile experiments of Twaron fiber tows under different strain rates (quasi-static: 0.001 s−1, dynamic: 800–2400 s−1) were tested with an MTS materials tester (MTS 810.23) and a split Hopkinson tension bar, respectively. The results showed that the mechanical properties of the Twaron fiber tows were sensitive to strain rate: the stiffness and failure stress of the fiber tows increased distinctly as the strain rate increased, while the failure strain decreased. From scanning electron microscope photographs of the fracture surface, it is evident that the Twaron fiber tows failed in a tougher mode and the axial split became more severe as the strain rate increased. The tensile behaviors of the Twaron fiber tows were analyzed in the frequency domain using the fast Fourier transform method. The amplitude spectrum and power of energy absorption of the Twaron tows were concentrated in a specific frequency range and increased with strain rate.

Abstract:
Historically the culture of the Comoro Islands shows a strong relationship to the Swahili culture of the East African coast. Archeology, written and oral history have impressively documented these bonds dating back not less than a thousand years. The appearance of so called twarab in the first decades of the 20th Century once more demonstrated the closeness of this cultural imaginary that links the Comoros to the Swahili world, and beyond to include the predominantly Islamic cultures of the Western Indian Ocean. The paper is a first approach to the history of twarab on one island, Ngazidja, until the mid-1960s. It also addresses the question of language use, especially the relationship between East Coast and Comorian varieties of Swahili, and the influence of the Swahili poetic canon on the practice of Ngazidjan poets and singers. The orthography of names and place names follows Comorian conventions. A distinction is made between `twarab` and `taarab`, the former is the Comorian rendering and refers to the Comorian style, while the latter designates the East African Coast or Swahili variant.

Abstract:
The aim of this research was to investigate that whether the Department of Home Affairs has a proper, effective management skill to deal with the impact of illegal immigrants in the Vaal Triangle Region, since the Department of Home Affairs regional offices has the institutionalized procedures and mechanism to process and deport illegal immigrants. For the purpose of this study, the hypothesis was formulated that “the Department of Home Affairs in the Vaal Triangle is currently unable to manage, regulate and facilitate the influx of illegal immigrants into the region, due to absence of an effective management framework at governmental level”. To test the hypothesis, empirical research was undertaken to obtain valuable information through questionnaire and interviews. The findings from the literature review and the empirical research support the central statement. Findings indicate that the Department of Home Affairs has not managed on continuous bases to improve performance on rendering service, there is lack of experience and proper training among departmental officials, has not empowered the Departmental of Home Affairs border post personnel as a unity, they are complicated legislation, inappropriate infrastructure and lack of central planning. For that matter, stakeholders need to engage all procedures and processes that will lead to reduced influx of illegal immigrants. Through research, it was observed that the high number of illegal immigrants currently in South Africa suggests that the Department of Home Affairs, through its regional offices, is unable to deal effectively with the processing and deportation of illegal immigrants. The research offers valuable suggestions and recommendations to improve the challenge. It is recommended to further explore the possibility of a comparative analysis with other developing countries in order to understand the internationally accepted procedures to control the influx of illegal immigrants. The comparative study may assist individual countries to implement the best possible prevention measures based on the social, economic and political environment of their countries.

Abstract:
Employee engagement is defined as worker’s willingness and ability to contribute to a company’s success, the extent to which employees put in discretionary effort into their work (Kennedy and Daim 2010, Hundley et al., 2005) which explains the researchers approach in assessing the impact of mission-directed work teams towards employee engagement. Lonmin Plc. the third largest producer of platinum registered on both the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and London Stock Exchange (LSE) has embarked on integrating its operational activities, with the view of advocating its strategic alignment towards every employee in the organization by implementing the MDWTs initiative on every shop floor level. This programme focused on aligning every activity throughout the organization to facilitate proper defined key performance indicators (KPIs) through the business, to improve the company’s competitiveness in the mining sector. As per the basis of this empirical study, the researcher has chosen to analyse the impact of the MDWTs programme on employee engagement at Lonmin to answer the question “Does the MDWTs programme have a positive impact on employee engagement in the mining industry?” The targeted group for this study was about 300 shop floor employees of Lonmin within the process division. The research study only managed to achieve 50% of the total targeted group. During the period of the study, 149 participants (129 males and 17 females) participated in the study. Employees are generally satisfied with the impact of the MDWTs programme on their development, on the communication improvement, and mainly, the involvement of employees towards the organization’s strategic goals. The majority of the employees are of the opinion that the tool may require improvement or growth in order to remain sustainable towards its objective; otherwise, a different programme may be sought in the future should the status quo remain the same. However, there is a huge discrepancy on different sub-divisions’ perception on the maturity level of the MDWTs programme, although the researcher did not open the study for additional suggestions on how to improve the intervention. The instrument designed and used in this study produced a reliability coefficient (Cronbach’s alpha above .80) and the validity analysis of eight factor items. On the basis of the empirical study conducted, it can be concluded that the missiondirected work teams programme was shown, statistically and practically, to have an impact on employee engagement with Lonmin and that communication, involvement, strategic alignment and employee development improved due to the use of the MDWTs’ initiatives.

Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to set up a method for cultivation of C. pneumoniae from infected mouse tissue in Hep2 cells. We also evaluated a new reagent, Chlamatis, which is considered to increase the detection sensitivity of the bacterium with both PCR and cultivation. All 10 serum samples treated with Chlamatis were negative for C. pneumoniae in PCR. The cultivation of tissue was found to work without problems. The yield of the bacteria was highest at the speed of 30 Hz using homogenization with TissueLyser. Mice infected with C. pneumoniae were killed at days 4, 8, 20 and 40. The highest yields of C. pneumoniae were found at days 4 and 8 using PCR with all infected mice. The results obtained with PCR and cultivation confirmed each other to a large extent. For heart tissue, PCR positive mice were found only at days 4 and 8. The number of PCR positive lung samples confirmed to a large extent the number found by cultivation, except for mice killed after 4 days and 40 days where the results differed slightly. This indicated that the optimization of the cultivation method was successful

Abstract:
This master thesis is aimed at computational modeling of ballistic resistant layered laminate. The introductory sections of the thesis are aimed at understanding the individual topics that are closely related to the interaction of the projectile and target and computational modeling of this process. The main goal of this thesis was to create a computational model that is able to reflect the behavior of aramid fabric during the interaction with the projectile. During the development of the computational model were used more methods of modeling and also more material models were used. For the purposes of the development of the computational model were used the available data of the companies SVS FEM s.r.o. and VVÚ s.p. The outcome of the diploma thesis is a computational model of aramid fabric which is designed for ballistic protection simulations. This model is validated on the basis of available experiments. The validated computational model is then applied to the simulation of ballistic protection.

La thèse intitulée Les Touaregs d'Europe et leurs "amis" : Diffusion et réception d'une cause saharienne mythifiée, portée par Pierre Peraldi-Mittelette, analyse les interactions entre les Touaregs installés en Europe occidentale (notamment en France, Belgique, Italie et Suisse) et des européens avec qui ils sont en lien. L’ethnographie effectuée depuis 2013, dans le cadre de ce doctorat, a permis l’observation des manières de se (re)présenter à des interlocuteurs qui ne font pas partie de la communauté touarègue. L’analyse est ainsi centrée, dans ces interactions, sur les manières de se définir afin de saisir comment des personnes en diaspora peuvent se présenter et les stratégies qu’elles mettent en place pour permettre à la communication de se nouer avec des interlocuteurs d’origines différentes. Basée sur une ethnographie inédite des Touaregs installés en Europe, il n’est pas question d’interroger leur identité en soi, mais leur manière de se positionner en touareg en fonction de leurs interlocuteurs, dans les discours, les postures et les attitudes. À travers une ethnographie de la communication et une analyse pragmatique du lexique, de la sémantique et des postures et des attributs identificatoires, il s’est agi de questionner ce qui fait sens pour soi et quels sont les significations qui sont partagées, permettant ainsi une intercompréhension et la mise en place d’un ethos reconnaissable et légitime pour porter une cause touarègue en Europe
The thesis entitled The Tuaregs of Europe and their "friends": Diffusion and reception of a mythical Saharan cause, carried by Pierre Peraldi-Mittelette, analyzes the interactions between the Tuaregs living in Western Europe (notably in France, Belgium, Italy and Switzerland) and Europeans with whom they are connected. Ethnography carried out since 2013, as part of this doctorate, has allowed the observation of ways to (re) present to interlocutors who are not part of the Tuareg community. The analysis is thus centered in these interactions on the ways of defining oneself in order to understand how people in the diaspora can present themselves and what allows the communication to be formed with interlocutors of different origins. Based on an original ethnography of Tuaregs settled in Europe, it is not question of their identity per se, but their way of positioning themselves in Tuareg according to their interlocutors, in speeches, postures and attitudes. Through an ethnography of communication and a pragmatic analysis of the lexicon, semantics and postures and identificatory attributes, it was a question of what makes sense to oneself and what the meanings are shared, thus allowing a intercomprehension and the establishment of a recognizable and legitimate ethos to bring a Tuareg cause to Europe

Abstract:
The creep behavior of a Twaron CT709® fabric/natural rubber composite under a uniaxial constant stress is studied using three viscoelasticity models with different levels of complexity and a newly developed para-rheological model. The three models employed are a one-term generalized Maxwell (GMn = 1) model (consisting of one Maxwell element and an additional spring in parallel), a two-term generalized Maxwell (GMn = 2) model (including two parallel Maxwell elements and an additional spring in parallel), and a four-parameter Burgers model. The values of the parameters involved in each model are extracted from the experimental data obtained in this study. The creep tests reveal that the axial strain starts to increase exponentially during the primary stage and then continues to equilibrate linearly with time. The results show that the initial creep response of the composite is predicted fairly well by the GMn = 2 model, while the secondary creep is more accurately described by the GMn = 1 model. An implicit solution, together with a characteristic retardation time spectrum, obtained using the para-rheological model is found to provide more accurate predictions of the composite creep response than the three viscoelasticity models at both the primary and secondary stages.

Abstract:
A comparative experimental study on tensile properties of three types of high-performance polymeric fiber yarns — AuTx™, Kevlar® KM2 600 denier and Twaron® 500 denier — is conducted. Tensile tests are performed on samples of the three kinds of fiber yarns at five testing temperatures (24, 50, 60, 70 and 80 °C) and three loading rates (100, 200 and 300 mm/min). The elastic modulus, breaking stress, and breaking strain are obtained for each type of fiber yarns under specified testing conditions as averages of measured values from 15 specimens. The experimental data reveal that the tensile properties of all three types of fiber yarns under investigation exhibit strong temperature dependence, with the elastic modulus and breaking stress decreasing with the temperature increase. However, the dependency of the properties on the loading rate is insignificant for the range considered. The measured tensile properties of the Kevlar® and Twaron® yarns are seen to be close, while the elastic modulus and breaking stress of the AuTx™ yarn are found to be, respectively, about 12% and 40% higher than those of the Kevlar® and Twaron® fiber yarns. It is also observed that the AuTx™ yarn degrades about two times faster than the other two yarns as temperature increases.

Body armor technology continually improves in performance and endurance with the introduction of new designs and materials. Composite layered armor systems comprised of ceramics and fabric based materials are at the leading edge. Over the years, these systems have seen preference over their metal counterparts due to reduced weight. High performance polyethylene (Spectra, Dyneema), Aramids (Kevlar, Twaron, Zylon) and other composite materials, [1] have further improved dynamic resistance in body armor with reasonable strength-to-weight ratio.
