Purpose Real estate is one of the fundamental growth engines for developing economies as it contributes urbanization and infrastructure development. In recent years, Somalia has witnessed massive real estate development in both housing and commercial buildings. The purpose of this study is twofold. First, the study examines the determinants of residential property rents. Second, it investigates whether residential property rents are fairly valued. Design/methodology/approach This study uses two-stage modeling. A hedonic regression model is used in the first stage, while an artificial neural ne

These articles demonstrate, in several different examples, the effectiveness of two-level regression: the procedure of fitting several separate regression models, and then fitting a second, higher-level, regression to the estimated coefficients (for example, fitting a separate regression model to survey data from each of several countries, then regressing the coefficient estimates on country-level predictors). For simplicity, we will refer to the first- and second-level units as “persons” and “countries,” respectively, but our points apply more generally.

Abstract Any industrial process needs to work with the optimal operating conditions and thus the evaluation of their robustness is a critical issue. A modeling of a laboratory-scale wire-to-plane two stages electrostatic precipitator for guiding the identification of the set point, is presented this in paper. The procedure consists of formulating recommendations regarding the choice of optimal values for electrostatic precipitation. A two-stages laboratory precipitator was used to carry out the experiments, with samples of wood particles of average granulometric size 10 µm. The parameters cons

Abstract:
There is a demand for increasing efficiency of automotive engines, and one way to achieve this is through downsizing and turbocharging. In the design compromises are made, for example the maximum power of the engine determines the size of the compressor, but since the compressor mass flow range is limited, this affects the torque for low engine speeds. A two stage system, with two different sized turbochargers, reduces this compromise, but the system complexity increases. To handle the complexity, models have come to play a central role where they aid engineers in the design. Models are used i

Based on the laboratory, field and numerical results, the post-rupture strength defined firstly by Burland (1990) is verified and introduced in this thesis to describe the two-stage post-peak strain-softening characteristics of stiff clays. The first softening stage is induced by the loss of interbonding between particles, i.e. the cohesive component of strength at relatively small displacement and hence termed as cementation loss; while the second is due to the gradual realignment, i.e. reorientation of clay particles at large displacements and can be called as gradual frictional resistan

With many possible arrangements and large number of parameter to optimize, these architectures present higher complexity than current systems. Various aspects of multiple regression models are included: multicollinearity, dummy variables, and lag structure of variables. Methods of linearization and estimation of nonlinear models are considered. An apparatus for evaluating systems of simultaneous and apparently unrelated equations is presented. The Mississippi River between New Madrid, MO, and Hickman, KY, is of particular interest because of divergent trends in water surface profiles at the upstream and downstream ends of the reach. This report documents the investigation of the bathymetry, geology, and hydraulics of this segment of the river. The report shows that the area near River Mile 901 above Head of Passes strongly affects the river stages at low flows. This part of the river can experience high shear stresses when flows fall below 200,000 cfs, as opposed to most other locations where shear stress increases with flow. One-di

Abstract:
Prognostics and health management (PHM) frameworks are widely used in engineered systems, such as manufacturing equipment, aircraft, and vehicles, to improve reliability, maintainability, and safety. Prognostic information for impending failures and remaining useful life is essential to inform decision-making by enabling cost versus risk estimates of maintenance actions. These estimates are generally provided by physics-based or data-driven models developed on historical information. Although current models provide some predictive capabilities, the ability to represent individualized dynamic f
