Abstract:
The design of wireless sensor network for structural health monitoring systems requires high sampling rate, real-time communication, low-energy consumption, particularly in large-scale networks. However, some commonly available architecture and protocols are not fully suitable for this special application. In this paper, the requirements of wireless sensor network for structural health monitoring application is studied and a two-tiered architecture network where is an IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network on top of an IEEE 802.15.4 structure area network is proposed as a solution. Lifetime optimization is one of the key issues among the many challenges of wireless sensor networks. The introduction of a small number of high-performance relay nodes can effectively improve the quality of the network services. However, how to deploy these nodes reasonably to fully enhance the network lifetime becomes a very difficult problem. In this study, a modified and enhanced Artificial Bee Colony is proposed to maximize the lifetime of a two-tiered wireless sensor network by optimal deployment of relay nodes. First, the dimension of the problem is introduced into the candidate search

The key aspects of our scheme are relay node relocation and reclustering when failures are detected. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated via simulations for various topology layouts based on the sensor node population and number of mobile relay nodes employed. This caused increasing capacity shortfall and coverage issues, aggravated by inefficient fixed spectrum management policies and obsolete network structures. Specifically, new spectrum management policies based on the so-called dynamic spectrum access (DSA), together with hie

Significance StatementThis work addresses a research gap that exists when it comes to Green Infrastructure planning as a new spatial planning approach to develop multifunctional green networks. I introduce a typology for spatial planning to integrate peri-urban farmland in Green Infrastructure, supporting the development of a multifunctional open space network. This typology is based on a two-tiered approach, involving an inter- and transdisciplinary approach and an evidence synthesis. It contributes to the conceptual understanding of multifunctionality planning, provides evidence that peri-urban farmland bears potentials to address urban challenges, such as biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, green economy development, and social cohesion, and reveals research gaps that still need to be addressed in future.
