Abstract:
Accurate material demand forecasting can lead to significant cost savings, greater competitiveness and improved customer satisfaction. However, more often than not, demand forecasting as a business function is carried out poorly, with forecast accuracy often not significantly better than the naïve forecast. To appropriately address these concerns and satisfy overall business objectives, it's increasingly important to have a holistic strategy to improve demand forecast accuracy through a well thought-out enterprise data strategy, applications of advanced forecasting methods as well as synchroni

This paper, explores the design and sizing of a planetary gear-based electronic continuously variable transmission (ECVT) for implementation of a parallel gas-electric hybrid helicopter propulsion system. The ECVT consists of a differential planetary gear transmission (PGT) and an electric motor/generator (MG) unit. The ECVT enables power-flow between engine, motor and helicopter main rotor. The parallel arrangement enables the main rotor speed to varied continuously based on the MG speed while the engine speed can remain constant. The performance benefits enabled by the main rotor speed varia

Abstract Modern energy asset planning requires the synthesis of many multi-disciplinary inputs to translate reservoir data into coherent simulations and their associated economic forecasts for effective decision making. Utilizing a nodal network model to integrate well forecasts with the asset's operational considerations allows for improved accuracy of the simulations, better guidance and generation of insights that allow for subsequent optimization of plans and more effective capital allocation. The effectiveness of propeller polishing on the reduction in fuel consumption is reviewed from a theoretical viewpoint, and compared With a number of actual trials carried 0ut on several types and classes of ships. The data demonstrates true benefit does result from periodic polishings and the level of savings on fuel alone are more than sufficient to justify the costs. An assessment of the roughness condition of a reasonably large propeller population, and the penalties associated with that roughness, are discussed and the occurrence of fouling and mechanica1 damage are also touched upon.

The use of dimple technology for improvement in friction factors and enhancement of heat transfer has been attracting the attention of many scientists and engineers. Numerical and experimental studies have shown there is a positive improvement (two-fold on average) in Nusselt number when dimpled surfaces are compare to flat plates, and this improvement is achieved with pressure drop penalties that are small when compared to other more intrusive types of turbulence promoters. When arrays of specific dimple geometry are used, pressure drop penalties are roughly equivalent to the heat transfer im

There is an innate and critical relationship between energy and weather, water, and climate. As the deployment of renewable energy, particularly wind and solar energy, increases, so too does dependence on weather and weather variability. Understanding, accounting for, and communicating weather and climate variables is therefore critical for the planning and optimization of the energy system. This puts increasing pressure on the scientific community, and particularly those working on the weather and climate aspects of renewables, to provide the right information to meet the key decision-making

It is a growing and exciting field where increasing Scottish evidence has been given wider significance in the context of European prehistory. It extends over a long period, which saw great changes, including substantial environmental transformations, and the impact of, and societal response to, climate change.
