In den vergangenen Jahren wurden stetig wachsende Produktionskapazitäten von Biokunststoffen aus nachwachsenden Rohstoffe nverzeichnet. Trotz großer Produktionskapazitäten und einem geeigneten Eigenschaftsprofil findet Stärke nur als hydrophile, mit Weichmachern verarbeitete thermoplastische Stärke (TPS) in Form von Blends mit z. B. Polyestern Anwendung. Gleiches gilt für Kunststoffe auf Proteinbasis. Die vorliegende Arbeit hat die Entwicklung von Biokunststoffen auf Stärkebasis zum Ziel, welche ohne externe Weichmacher thermoplastisch verarbeitbar und hydrophob sind sowie ein mechanisches Eigenschaftsprofil aufweisen, welches ein Potenzial zur Herstellung von Materialien für eine Anwendung als Verpackungsmittel bietet. Um die Rohstoffbasis für Biokunststoffe zu erweitern, soll das erarbeitete Konzept auf zwei industriell verfügbare Proteintypen, Zein und Molkenproteinisolat (WPI), übertragen werden. Als geeignete Materialklasse wurden Fettsäureester der Stärke herausgearbeitet. Zunächst fand ein Vergleich der Säurechlorid-Veresterung und der Umesterung von Fettsäurevinylestern statt, woraus letztere als geeignetere Methode hervorging. Durch Variation der Reaktionsparameter konnte diese optimiert und auf eine Serie der Fettsäurevinylester von Butanoat bis Stearat für DS-Werte bis zu 2,2-2,6 angewandt werden. Möglich war somit eine systematische Studie unter Variation der veresterten Fettsäure sowie des Substitutionsgrades (DS). Sämtliche Produkte mit einem DS ab 1,5 wiesen eine ausgprägte Löslichkeit in organischen Lösungsmitteln auf wodurch sowohl die Aufnahme von NMR-Spektren als auch Molmassenbestimmung mittels Größenausschlusschromatographie mit gekoppelter Mehrwinkel-Laserlichtstreuung (GPC-MALLS) möglich waren. Durch dynamische Lichtstreuung (DLS) wurde das Löslichkeitsverhalten veranschaulicht. Sämtliche Produkte konnten zu Filmen verarbeitet werden, wobei Materialien mit DS 1,5-1,7 hohe Zugfestigkeiten (bis zu 42 MPa) und Elastizitätsmodule (bis 1390 MPa) aufwiesen. Insbesondere Stärkehexanoat mit DS <2 sowie Stärkebutanoat mit DS >2 hatten ein mechanisches Eigenschaftsprofil, welches insbesondere in Bezug auf die Festigkeit/Steifigkeit vergleichbar mit Verpackungsmaterialien wie Polyethylen war (Zugfestigkeit: 15-32 MPa, E-Modul: 300-1300 MPa). Zugfestigkeit und Elastizitätsmodul nahmen mit steigender Kettenlänge der veresterten Fettsäure ab. Ester längerkettiger Fettsäuren (C16-C18) waren spröde. Über Weitwinkel-Röntgenstreuung (WAXS) und Infrarotspektroskopie (ATR-FTIR) konnte der Verlauf der Festigkeiten mit einer zunehmenden Distanz der Stärke im Material begründet werden. Es konnten von DS und Kettenlänge abhängige Glasübergänge detektiert werden, die kristallinen Strukturen der langkettigen Fettsäuren zeigten einen Schmelzpeak. Die Hydrophobie der Filme wurde anhand von Kontaktwinkeln >95° gegen Wasser dargestellt. Blends mit biobasierten Polyterpenen sowie den in der Arbeit hergestellten Zein-Acylderivaten ermöglichten eine weitere Verbesserung der Zugfestigkeit bzw. des Elastizitätsmoduls hochsubstituierter Produkte. Eine thermoplastische Verarbeitung mittels Spritzgießen war sowohl für Produkte mit hohem als auch mittlerem DS-Wert ohne jeglichen Zusatz von Weichmachern möglich. Es entstanden homogene, transparente Prüfstäbe. Untersuchungen der Härte ergaben auch hier für Stärkehexanoat und –butanoat mit Polyethylen vergleichbare Werte. Ausgewählte Produkte wurden zu Fasern nach dem Schmelzspinnverfahren verarbeitet. Hierbei wurden insbesondere für hochsubstituierte Derivate homogenen Fasern erstellt, welche im Vergleich zur Gießfolie signifikant höhere Zugfestigkeiten aufwiesen. Stärkeester mit mittlerem DS ließen sich ebenfalls verarbeiten. Zunächst wurden für eine Übertragung des Konzeptes auf die Proteine Zein und WPI verschiedene Synthesemethoden verglichen. Die Veresterung mit Säurechloriden ergab hierbei die höchsten Werte. Im Hinblick auf eine gute Löslichkeit in organischen Lösungsmitteln wurde für WPI die Veresterung mit carbonyldiimidazol (CDI)-aktivierten Fettsäuren in DMSO und für Zein die Veresterung mit Säu-rechloriden in Pyridin bevorzugt. Es stellte sich heraus, dass acyliertes WPI zwar hydrophob, jedoch ohne Weichmacher nicht thermoplastisch verarbeitet werden konnte. Die Erstellung von Gießfolien führte zu Sprödbruchverhalten. Unter Zugabe der biobasierten Ölsäure wurde die Anwendung von acyliertem WPI als thermoplastischer Filler z. B. in Blends mit Stärkeestern dargestellt. Im Gegensatz hierzu zeigte acyliertes Zein Glasübergänge <100 °C bei ausreichender Stabilität (150-200 °C). Zeinoleat konnte ohne Weichmacher zu einer transparenten Gießfolie verarbeitet werden. Sämtliche Derivate erwiesen sich als ausgeprägt hydrophob. Zeinoleat konnte über das Schmelzspinnverfahren zu thermoplastischen Fasern verarbeitet werden.<br>In recent years, a steadily growing production capacity of bioplastic based on renewable resources was noticed. Despite its huge production capacities and an appropriate property profile (ubiquitous occurrence, easy extraction), starch is only applied in addition of plasticizers in a hydrophilic, thermoplastic form in blends with e. g. polyesters. The same applies to bioplastics based on proteins. The actual study has the aim to develop starch-based bioplastics, which are hydrophobic, thermoplastic without the addition of any plasticizer and have mechanical properties to be a suitable alternative material in the area of food packaging. To obtain a variation of the raw materials for bioplastics, the concept shall be applied to two types of industrial available proteins, whey protein isolate (WPI) and Zein. Fatty acid esters of starch came out to be a suitable class of materials. Initially, the methods of esterifying acid chlorides and the transesterification of fatty acid vinyl esters were compared with the latter being more appropriate. Reaction parameters of this method were optimized and it was applied to a complete series of vinyl ester reagents (butanoate to stearate), leading to degree of substitution (DS)-values up to 2.2-2.6. With that, a systematic study of the variation of the fatty acid ester chain as well as the DS became possible. It came out that all products with a DS >1.5 showed a well-marked solubility in organic solvents, whereby solution NMR-studies as well as measurements of the molecular weight distributions by using size exclusion chroma-tography with multi-angle laser light scattering (SEC-MALLS) were possible. The different solution behavior was studied by dynamic light scattering (DLS). All soluble products could be formed into films via casting, where materials with a DS of 1.5-1.7 showed the highest values concerning tensile strength (up to 42 MPa) and Youngs modulus (up to 1390 MPa). Especially starch hexanoate with DS <2 and starch butanoate with a DS >2 revealed mechanical properties which are comparable to usually applied polymers for food packaging, e. g. polyethylene (tensile strength: 15-20 MPa, E-Mod: 300-1300 MPa). Tensile strength and Youngs modulus were reduced with increasing length of the esterified fatty acid. Wide-angle X-Ray scattering (WAXS) and infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) explained this tendency by an increasing intermolecular distance of the starch in the material. Glassy transitions of the materials were detected and showed a dependency on the type of esterified fatty acid and the DS. The crystalline structures of the esterified long-chain fatty acids revealed a melting peak. All films came out to be hydrophobic with contact angles against water >95°. The tensile strength and the Youngs modulus of the highly substituted products could be further improved by blending them with biobased polyterpenes as well as the acylated Zein. A thermoplastic processing without the use of any plasticizer additives was possible for products with a medium and high DS. Homogeneous, transparent testing specimens were obtained. The specific mechanical values were comparable with the casted films, although the highest values for the tensile strength and the elongation were lower. Investigations of the hardness showed comparable values to polyethylene. Selected samples were further processed to fibers by melt spinning. Especially starch esters with high DS revealed homogeneous fibers with a significant increase in the tensile strength compared to the film or testing specimen. Even fatty acid starch esters with a medium DS were processed by the melt-spinning, but their higher glassy transition lead to a reduced softening behavior. To transfer this concept to the class of proteins, different methods of synthesis were studied in the first step, which differed in their amount of acylation. The acylation using fatty acid chlorides lead to highest values. With regard to a well-marked organic solvent solubility, in the case of WPI the acylation with carbonyldiimidazol (CDI)-activated fatty acid was established. For Zein, the acid chloride acylation in pyridine gave the desired results. It came out the fatty acid acylated soluble WPI could not be thermoplastic processed without additional plasticizers. By using biobased oleic acid as additive, the potential of acylated WPI as a thermoplastic filler in blends with e. g. fatty acid esters of starch was shown. In contrast, fatty acid acyl derivatives of Zein revealed well marked glassy transitions <100 °C with an adequate thermal stability. While Zeinoleate could be formed into transparent films via solvent casting without any plasticizer additives, low amounts of tall oil enabled film-forming in the case of acyl derivatives with shorter fatty acids as well. All derivatives revealed a well-marked hydrophobicity. Finally, Zeinoleate was thermoplastically processed into fibers by melt-spinning without any further additives.

Piezoelectric materials are very useful for applications in sensors and actuators. In addition to traditional ferroelectric ceramics and ferroelectric polymers, ferroelectrets have recently become a new group of piezoelectrics. Ferroelectrets are functional polymer systems for electromechanical transduction, with elastically heterogeneous cellular structures and internal quasi-permanent dipole moments. The piezoelectricity of ferroelectrets stems from linear changes of the dipole moments in response to external mechanical or electrical stress. Over the past two decades, polypropylene (PP) foams have been investigated with the aim of ferroelectret applications, and some products are already on the market. PP-foam ferroelectrets may exhibit piezoelectric d33 coefficients of 600 pC/N and more. Their operating temperature can, however, not be much higher than 60 °C. Recently developed polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) and cyclo-olefin copolymer (COC) foam ferroelectrets show slightly better d33 thermal stabilities, but usually at the price of smaller d33 values. Therefore, the main aim of this work is the development of new thermally stable ferroelectrets with appreciable piezoelectricity. Physical foaming is a promising technique for generating polymer foams from solid films without any pollution or impurity. Supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) or nitrogen (N2) are usually employed as foaming agents due to their good solubility in several polymers. Polyethylene propylene (PEN) is a polyester with slightly better properties than PET. A “voiding + inflation + stretching” process has been specifically developed to prepare PEN foams. Solid PEN films are saturated with supercritical CO2 at high pressure and then thermally voided at high temperatures. Controlled inflation (Gas-Diffusion Expansion or GDE) is applied in order to adjust the void dimensions. Additional biaxial stretching decreases the void heights, since it is known lens-shaped voids lead to lower elastic moduli and therefore also to stronger piezoelectricity. Both, contact and corona charging are suitable for the electric charging of PEN foams. The light emission from the dielectric-barrier discharges (DBDs) can be clearly observed. Corona charging in a gas of high dielectric strength such as sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) results in higher gas-breakdown strength in the voids and therefore increases the piezoelectricity. PEN foams can exhibit piezoelectric d33 coefficients as high as 500 pC/N. Dielectric-resonance spectra show elastic moduli c33 of 1 − 12 MPa, anti-resonance frequencies of 0.2 − 0.8 MHz, and electromechanical coupling factors of 0.016 − 0.069. As expected, it is found that PEN foams show better thermal stability than PP and PET. Samples charged at room temperature can be utilized up to 80 − 100 °C. Annealing after charging or charging at elevated temperatures may improve thermal stabilities. Samples charged at suitable elevated temperatures show working temperatures as high as 110 − 120 °C. Acoustic measurements at frequencies of 2 Hz − 20 kHz show that PEN foams can be well applied in this frequency range. Fluorinated ethylene-propylene (FEP) copolymers are fluoropolymers with very good physical, chemical and electrical properties. The charge-storage ability of solid FEP films can be significantly improved by adding boron nitride (BN) filler particles. FEP foams are prepared by means of a one-step procedure consisting of CO2 saturation and subsequent in-situ high-temperature voiding. Piezoelectric d33 coefficients up to 40 pC/N are measured on such FEP foams. Mechanical fatigue tests show that the as-prepared PEN and FEP foams are mechanically stable for long periods of time. Although polymer-foam ferroelectrets have a high application potential, their piezoelectric properties strongly depend on the cellular morphology, i.e. on size, shape, and distribution of the voids. On the other hand, controlled preparation of optimized cellular structures is still a technical challenge. Consequently, new ferroelectrets based on polymer-layer system (sandwiches) have been prepared from FEP. By sandwiching an FEP mesh between two solid FEP films and fusing the polymer system with a laser beam, a well-designed uniform macroscopic cellular structure can be formed. Dielectric resonance spectroscopy reveals piezoelectric d33 coefficients as high as 350 pC/N, elastic moduli of about 0.3 MPa, anti-resonance frequencies of about 30 kHz, and electromechanical coupling factors of about 0.05. Samples charged at elevated temperatures show better thermal stabilities than those charged at room temperature, and the higher the charging temperature, the better is the stability. After proper charging at 140 °C, the working temperatures can be as high as 110 − 120 °C. Acoustic measurements at frequencies of 200 Hz − 20 kHz indicate that the FEP layer systems are suitable for applications at least in this range.<br>Piezoelektrische Materialien haben große technische und wirtschaftliche Bedeutung für Anwendungen in Sensoren und Aktuatoren. Neben den traditionellen ferroelektrischen Keramiken und Polymeren bilden Ferroelektrete eine neue Gruppe der Piezoelektrika. Ferroelektrete sind reversible funktionelle Polymersysteme zur Umwandlung von elektrischer in mechanische Energie und umgekehrt. Sie zeichnen sich aus durch eine elastische zelluläre Struktur mit internen quasi-permanenten Dipolen. Der Mechanismus der Piezoelektrizität in Ferroelektreten wird dominiert von der Änderung der einzelnen Dipolmomente bei Einwirkung einer äußeren mechanischen Kraft. Insbesondere zelluläres Polypropylene (PP) war in den vergangenen zwei Jahrzehnten Gegenstand intensiver Forschung und Entwicklung im Hinblick auf die grundlegenden Eigenschaften und Anwendungen von Ferroelektreten. Einige bereits erhältliche kommerzielle Produkte nutzen die in geladenem zellulären PP erreichbaren hohen piezoelektrischen d33-Koeffizienten von 600 pC/N und mehr, sind aber durch eine relativ geringe maximale Betriebstemperatur von ungefähr 60 °C eingeschränkt. Die kürzlich entwickelten Ferroelektrete aus zellulärem Polyethylenterephthalat (PET) und zellulären Cyclo-Olefin-Copolymeren (COC) zeigen eine bessere Temperaturbeständigkeit (vor allem COC), allerdings gewöhlich auf Kosten von geringeren d33-Koeffizienten. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, temperaturbeständige Ferroelektrete mit für den Markt geeigneten piezoelektrischen Eigenschaften zu entwickeln. Physikalisches Schäumen ist eine beliebte Methode, um besonders reine Polymerschäume herzustellen. Häufig werden, wegen ihrer guten Löslichkeit in vielen Polymeren, Kohlenstoffdioxid (CO2) und Stickstoff (N2) im superkritischen Zustand als Treibmittel eingesetzt. Der Polyester Polyethylennaphtalat (PEN) hat ähnliche Eigenschaften wie PET, ist jedoch temperaturbeständiger. Ein Dreistufenprozess (Schäumen, Aufblähen und Strecken) wurde entwickelt, um PEN-Schäume für hochwertige Ferroelektrete herzustellen. Ungeschäumte PEN-Folien werden mit superkritischem CO2 unter hohem Druck gesättigt und anschließend unter geringem Druck bei Temperaturen nahe der Glastemperatur geschäumt. Um die Hohlräume zu vergrößern, wird der Schaum anschließend mittels Gasdiffusionsexpansion (GDE) aufgebläht. Nach zusätzlichem biaxialen Verstrecken erhält man die optimalen linsenförmigen Zellen, welche zu einer minimalen mechanischen Steifigkeit und einem maximalen piezoelektrischen d33-Koeffizienten des Ferroelektrets führen. Sowohl Korona- als auch Kontaktaufladung werden an zellulärem PEN erfolgreich eingesetzt. Die Lichtemission der dielektrisch behinderten Entladungen (DBDs) kann klar beobachtet werden. Korona-Aufladung in Gasen mit hohen dielektrischen Durchbruchsfestigkeiten, wie z.B. Schwefelhexafluorid (SF6), ermöglicht es, das Paschen-Durchbruchsfeld in den Hohlräumen und damit die erzielbare interne Ladungsdichte zu erhöhen. Dadurch können für zelluläres PEN piezoelektrische d33-Koeffizienten bis zu 500 pC/N erzielt werden. Piezoelektrischen Resonanzmessungen der Ferroelektrete liefern Steifigkeiten c33 im Bereich von 1 – 12 MPa, Antiresonanzfrequenzen von 0.2 – 0.8 MHz und elektromechanische Kopplungsfaktoren zwischen 0.016 und 0.069. PEN-Ferroelektrete zeigen eine bessere Temperaturstabilität als solche aus PP und PET. Der Anwendungsbereich von unbehandeltem PEN reicht bis etwa 80 – 100°C, jener von getemperten oder bei 120°C geladenen Proben bis etwa 110 – 120 °C. Akustische Messungen im Frequenzbereich von 2 Hz – 20 kHz zeigen die Eignung von PEN-Ferroelektretwandlern für Luftschallanwendungen. Fluoriertes Ethylen-Propylen (FEP) ist ein Fluorpolymer mit sehr guten physikalischen, chemischen und elektrischen Eigenschaften. Die Ladungsspeichereigenschaften von ungeschäumtem FEP können durch die Beimengung von Bornitrid deutlich verbessert werden. In dieser Arbeit wird zelluläres FEP mittels eines einstufigen Prozesses, dem schon erwähnten Schäumen mit überkritischem CO2, hergestellt. Die geladenen FEP-Proben weisen d33-Koeffizienten von bis zu 40 pC/N auf. Ermüdungstests zeigen eine sehr gute mechanische Stabilität von PEN- und FEP-Ferroelektreten. Zelluläre Polymerferroelektrete haben großes Potenzial für Anwendungen, und die Suche nach geeigneten zellulären Morphologien ist eng verknüpft mit dem technischen Aufwand ihrer Herstellung. Alternativ wurden Ferroelektrete mit Sandwich-Strukturen aus FEP-Folien entwickelt. Durch Laserverschmelzen eines FEP-Foliengitters mit zwei umgebenden FEP-Folien wird eine definierte, einheitliche zelluläre Struktur gebildet. Aus dielektrischen Resonanzspektren können effektive piezoelektrische d33-Koeffizienten bis zu 350 pC/N, effektive mechanische Steifigkeiten um 0.3 MPa, Antiresonanzfrequenzen um 30 kHz und elektromechanische Kopplungsfaktoren von etwa 0.05 abgeleitet werden. Proben, welche bei erhöhter Temperatur geladen werden, zeigen höhere Ladungsstabilitäten. Nach geeigneter Aufladung bei 140 °C kann die Arbeitstemperatur bis auf 110 – 120 °C gesteigert werden. Akustische Messungen im Frequenzbereich von 2 Hz – 20 kHz zeigen die Eignung von FEP-Sandwich-Strukturen für Luftschallanwendungen.

With the rise of nanotechnology in the last decade, nanofluidics has been established as a research field and gained increased interest in science and industry. Natural aqueous nanofluidic systems are very complex, there is often a predominance of liquid interfaces or the fluid contains charged or differently shaped colloids. The effects, promoted by these additives, are far from being completely understood and interesting questions arise with regards to the confinement of such complex fluidic systems. A systematic study of nanofluidic processes requires designing suitable experimental model nano – channels with required characteristics. The present work employed thin liquid films (TLFs) as experimental models. They have proven to be useful experimental tools because of their simple geometry, reproducible preparation, and controllable liquid interfaces. The thickness of the channels can be adjusted easily by the concentration of electrolyte in the film forming solution. This way, channel dimensions from 5 – 100 nm are possible, a high flexibility for an experimental system. TLFs have liquid IFs of different charge and properties and they offer the possibility to confine differently shaped ions and molecules to very small spaces, or to subject them to controlled forces. This makes the foam films a unique “device” available to obtain information about fluidic systems in nanometer dimensions. The main goal of this thesis was to study nanofluidic processes using TLFs as models, or tools, and to subtract information about natural systems plus deepen the understanding on physical chemical conditions. The presented work showed that foam films can be used as experimental models to understand the behavior of liquids in nano – sized confinement. In the first part of the thesis, we studied the process of thinning of thin liquid films stabilized with the non – ionic surfactant n – dodecyl – β – maltoside (β – C₁₂G₂) with primary interest in interfacial diffusion processes during the thinning process dependent on surfactant concentration 64. The surfactant concentration in the film forming solutions was varied at constant electrolyte (NaCl) concentration. The velocity of thinning was analyzed combining previously developed theoretical approaches. Qualitative information about the mobility of the surfactant molecules at the film surfaces was obtained. We found that above a certain limiting surfactant concentration the film surfaces were completely immobile and they behaved as non – deformable, which decelerated the thinning process. This follows the predictions for Reynolds flow of liquid between two non – deformable disks. In the second part of the thesis, we designed a TLF nanofluidic system containing rod – like multivalent ions and compared this system to films containing monovalent ions. We presented first results which recognized for the first time the existence of an additional attractive force in the foam films based on the electrostatic interaction between rod – like ions and oppositely charged surfaces. We may speculate that this is an ion bridging component of the disjoining pressure. The results show that for films prepared in presence of spermidine the transformation of the thicker CF to the thinnest NBF is more probable as films prepared with NaCl at similar conditions of electrostatic interaction. This effect is not a result of specific adsorption of any of the ions at the fluid surfaces and it does not lead to any changes in the equilibrium properties of the CF and NBF. Our hypothesis was proven using the trivalent ion Y3+ which does not show ion bridging. The experimental results are compared to theoretical predictions and a quantitative agreement on the system’s energy gain for the change from CF to NBF could be obtained. In the third part of the work, the behavior of nanoparticles in confinement was investigated with respect to their impact on the fluid flow velocity. The particles altered the flow velocity by an unexpected high amount, so that the resulting changes in the dynamic viscosity could not be explained by a realistic change of the fluid viscosity. Only aggregation, flocculation and plug formation can explain the experimental results. The particle systems in the presented thesis had a great impact on the film interfaces due to the stabilizer molecules present in the bulk solution. Finally, the location of the particles with respect to their lateral and vertical arrangement in the film was studied with advanced reflectivity and scattering methods. Neutron Reflectometry studies were performed to investigate the location of nanoparticles in the TLF perpendicular to the IF. For the first time, we study TLFs using grazing incidence small angle X – ray scattering (GISAXS), which is a technique sensitive to the lateral arrangement of particles in confined volumes. This work provides preliminary data on a lateral ordering of particles in the film.<br>Mit dem Heranwachsen der Nanotechnologie in den vergangenen zehn Jahren hat sich die Nanofluidik als Forschungsbereich etabliert und erfährt wachsende Aufmerksamkeit in der Wissenschaft, sowie auch in der Industrie. Im biomedizinischen Bereich, wo intrazelluläre Prozesse häufig komplexer, nanofluidischer Natur sind, wird sich vermehrt für ein detailliertes Verständnis von nanofluidischen Prozessen interessiert, z.B. für den Einfluss von Kolloiden verschiedenster Form oder elektrischer Ladung auf die Kanäle und auf das Fließverhalten oder die Auswirkungen der Einengung von Flüssigkeiten und Kolloiden in Nanometer Geometrien. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden dünne flüssige Filme, hinsichtlich ihrer Funktion als nanofluidische Modelle untersucht. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wurde die Fließgeschwindigkeit des Fluids aus dem dünnen Film, abhängig von der Konzentration der filmstabilisierenden Tensidmoleküle n – Dodecyl β – D – Maltoside ( β – C₁₂G₂) bei einer konstanten Elektrolytkonzentration von 0.2 mM NaCl untersucht. Mit einem theoretischen Modell konnte das Dünnungsverhalten nachgezeichnet werden. Es wurde eine kritische Tensidkonzentration gefunden, unter der die Oberflächen lateral mobil sind und über der sie sich wie fest verhalten. Dadurch konnten wir Aufschluss darüber erlangen, wie die Oberfläche des Films unter verschiedenen Bedingungen geschaffen ist, und das in Bezug zur Verteilungsdichte der Moleküle an den Oberflächen setzen. Im weiteren wurden komplexere, nanofluidische Systeme untersucht, wobei zum einen ~ 1 nm lange, stäbchenförmige, multivalent geladene Spermidin - Moleküle die punktförmigen Elektrolyte ersetzten. Es konnte eine deutliche Veränderung der Stabilität zwischen Filmen mit und ohne Stäbchen festgestellt werden. Die Filme, mit NaCl, blieben länger in dem metastabilen „Common Film“ (CF) Zustand als die Filme, die eine vergleichbare Konzentration von Spermidin Stäbchen beinhalteten. Die Ergebnisse deuteten auf eine zusätzliche Anziehungskraft durch Brückenbildung zwischen zwei geladenen Oberflächen durch gegensätzlich geladene Stäbchenförmige Moleküle hin. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass dieser Effekt weder ein Ergebnis von spezifischer Ionenadsorption an die Filmoberfläche war, noch ein Unterschied in den Gleichgewichtszuständen von den Dicken der CFs und der Newton Black Films (NBFs) hervorrief, was auf die korrekte Annahme der Ionenstärke in der Lösung schließen ließ. Auch in Versuchen mit ebenfalls trivalenten Ionen YCl3 wurde festgestellt, dass kein vergleichbarer Überbrückungseffekt auftritt. Die Ergebnisse wurden mit theoretischen Simulationen verglichen und es wurde eine quantitative Übereinstimmung gefunden bezüglich der Größe des Systeminternen Energiegewinns durch den Überbrückungseffekt. Desweiteren wurde das Fließverhalten von Fluiden mit Kolloiden eingeengt in Nanometer Geometrien untersucht. Für zwei verschiedene Arten von Nanopartikeln (Fe3O4 stabilisiert mit Oleinsäure und polymerstabilisierte Goldpartikel) wurde eine Verlangsamung der Fließgeschwindigkeit festgestellt. Mit einem theoretischen Modell konnte das Fließverhalten nur für enorm erhöhte Viskositätswerte des Fluids erklärt werden. Die Viskositätserhöhung wurde mit Partikelaggregaten, die den Ausfluss behindern, erklärt und diskutiert, unter der Annahme eines nicht - Newtonischen Fließverhaltens der Dispersionen. Gleichermaßen wurde die strukturelle Anordnung der Partikel in den Filmen hinsichtlich ihrer vertikalen und lateralen Verteilung untersucht. In dieser Arbeit werden vorläufige Ergebnisse präsentiert, die noch weiteren Studien bedürfen. Mit Neutronenreflexion sollte die Anordnung der Partikel orthogonal zur Oberfläche im Film analysiert werden. Eine qualitative Analyse lässt schließen, dass bei einer höheren Konzentration von Partikeln in Lösung, sich auch eine erhöhte Konzentration von Partikeln im dünnen Film befindet. Leider konnten die Daten nicht hinsichtlich der Lage der Partikel analysiert werden. Zum ersten Mal wurden dünne flüssige Filme mit Kleinwinkelröntgenstreuung unter streifendem Einfall (GISAXS) analysiert. Mit Hilfe dieser Methode sollte eine laterale Anordnung der Partikel im Film untersucht werden. Es konnten erfolgreiche Messungen durchgeführt werden und mit Hilfe der rechnergestützten Analyse konnte eine Aussage gemacht werden, dass ~ 6 nm große Teilchen in ~ 43 nm Abstand sich im Film befinden. Die Aussage bezüglich der kleinen Teilchen könnte sich auf einzelne, kleinere Partikel beziehen, allerdings könnten auch die 43 nm eine relevante Strukturgröße darstellen, da es in der Dispersion gehäuft Aggregate mit dem Durchmesser in dem Größenbereich vorliegen. Zusammenfassend können sich mit dieser Arbeit die dünnen flüssigen Filme als eine wichtige Kernmethode der Untersuchung von nanofluidischen Prozessen, wie sie häufig in der Natur vorkommen, behaupten.

The piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties of oriented films possessing dipole moments are increasingly being used in pressure, acoustic, thermal and optical devices. The performance of these devices in many applications may be enhanced by thin-film technology.The developing Langmuir-Blodgett thin-film deposition technique offers the opportunity to obtain highly oriented and uniform organic-based films in the 10–5000 nm thickness range. Special techniques must be used, however, to assemble these molecules in such a way as to result in polar multilayer films. Several possible deposition techniques are investigated, with one resulting in a polar and pyroelectric film about 50 nm thick.

Organic solar cells (OSC) are interesting as low cost alternative to conventional solar cells. Unsubstituted Metal-phthalocyanines (Pc) are excellent electron donating molecules for heterojunction OSC. Usually organic solar cells with Pcs are produced by vapor deposition, although solution based deposition (like spin casting) is cheaper and offers more possibilities to control the structure of the film. With solution based deposition several parameters (like temperature, solvent and etc.) affect the self-organized structure formation via nucleation and growth. The reason why vapor deposition is typically used is the poor solubility of the metal-phthalocyanines in most common solvents. Furthermore the process of nucleation and growth of Pc aggregates from solution is not well understood. For preparation of Pc films from solution, it is necessary to find the appropriate solvents, assess the solution deposition techniques, such as dip coating, and spin casting. It is necessary to understand the nucleation and growth process for aggregation/precipitation and to use this knowledge to produce nanostructures appropriate for OSC. This is important because the nanostructure of the films determines their performance. In this thesis, optical absorption and the stability of 8 different unsubstituted metal Pc’s were studied quantitatively in 28 different solvents. Among the several solution based deposited thin films produced based on this study, copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is chosen as a model system for an in-depth study. CuPc has sufficient solubility and stability in TFA and upon solution processing forms appropriate structures for OSCs. CuPc molecules aggregate into layers of nanoribbons with a thickness of ~ 1 nm and an adjustable width and length. The morphology and the number of deposited layers in the thin films are controlled by different parameters, like temperature and solution concentration. Material properties of CuPc deposited from TFA are studied in detail via x-ray diffraction, UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy. Atomic force microscopy was used to study the morphology of the dried film. The mechanism of the formation of CuPc nanoribbons from spin casted CuPc/TFA solution in ambient temperature is investigated and explained. The parameters (e.g. solution concentration profile) governing nucleation and growth are calculated based on the spin casting theory of a binary mixture of a nonvolatile solute and evaporative solvent. Based on this and intermolecular interactions between CuPc and substrate a nucleation and growth model is developed explaining the aggregation of CuPc in a supersaturated TFA solution. Finally, a solution processed thin film of CuPc is applied as a donor layer in a functioning bilayer heterojunction OSC and the influence of the structure on OSC performance is studied.<br>In den vergangenen Jahren wurden kosteneffiziente nasschemische Beschichtungsverfahren für die Herstellung organischer Dünnfilme für verschiedene opto-elektronische Anwendungen entdeckt und weiterentwickelt. Unter anderem wurden Phthalocyanin-Moleküle in photoaktiven Schichten für die Herstellung von Solarzellen intensiv erforscht. Aufgrund der kleinen bzw. unbekannten Löslichkeit wurden Phthalocyanin-Schichten durch Aufdampfverfahren im Vakuum hergestellt. Des Weiteren wurde die Löslichkeit durch chemische Synthese erhöht, was aber die Eigenschaften von Pc beeinträchtigte. In dieser Arbeit wurde die Löslichkeit, optische Absorption und Stabilität von 8 verschiedenen unsubstituierten Metall-Phthalocyaninen in 28 verschiedenen Lösungsmitteln quantitativ gemessen. Wegen ausreichender Löslichkeit, Stabilität und Anwendbarkeit in organischen Solarzellen wurde Kupferphthalocyanin (CuPc) in Trifluoressigsäure (TFA) für weitere Untersuchungen ausgewählt. Durch die Rotationsbeschichtung von CuPc aus TFA Lösung wurde ein dünner Film aus der verdampfenden Lösung auf dem Substrat platziert. Nach dem Verdampfen des Lösungsmittels, die Nanobändern aus CuPc bedecken das Substrat. Die Nanobänder haben eine Dicke von etwa ~ 1 nm (typische Dimension eines CuPc-Molekül) und variierender Breite und Länge, je nach Menge des Materials. Solche Nanobändern können durch Rotationsbeschichtung oder auch durch andere Nassbeschichtungsverfahren, wie Tauchbeschichtung, erzeugt werden. Ähnliche Fibrillen-Strukturen entstehen durch Nassbeschichtung von anderen Metall-Phthalocyaninen, wie Eisen- und Magnesium-Phthalocyanin, aus TFA-Lösung sowie auf anderen Substraten, wie Glas oder Indium Zinnoxid. Materialeigenschaften von aufgebrachten CuPc aus TFA Lösung und CuPc in der Lösung wurden ausführlich mit Röntgenbeugung, Spektroskopie- und Mikroskopie Methoden untersucht. Es wird gezeigt, dass die Nanobänder nicht in der Lösung, sondern durch Verdampfen des Lösungsmittels und der Übersättigung der Lösung entstehen. Die Rasterkraftmikroskopie wurde dazu verwendet, um die Morphologie des getrockneten Films bei unterschiedlicher Konzentration zu studieren. Der Mechanismus der Entstehung der Nanobändern wurde im Detail studiert. Gemäß der Keimbildung und Wachstumstheorie wurde die Entstehung der CuPc Nanobänder aus einer übersättigt Lösung diskutiert. Die Form der Nanobändern wurde unter Berücksichtigung der Wechselwirkung zwischen den Molekülen und dem Substrat diskutiert. Die nassverarbeitete CuPc-Dünnschicht wurde als Donorschicht in organischen Doppelschicht Solarzellen mit C60-Molekül, als Akzeptor eingesetzt. Die Effizienz der Energieumwandlung einer solchen Zelle wurde entsprechend den Schichtdicken der CuPc Schicht untersucht.

Organic semiconductors combine the benefits of organic materials, i.e., low-cost production, mechanical flexibility, lightweight, and robustness, with the fundamental semiconductor properties light absorption, emission, and electrical conductivity. This class of material has several advantages over conventional inorganic semiconductors that have led, for instance, to the commercialization of organic light-emitting diodes which can nowadays be found in the displays of TVs and smartphones. Moreover, organic semiconductors will possibly lead to new electronic applications which rely on the unique mechanical and electrical properties of these materials. In order to push the development and the success of organic semiconductors forward, it is essential to understand the fundamental processes in these materials. This thesis concentrates on understanding how the charge transport in thiophene-based semiconductor layers depends on the layer morphology and how the charge transport properties can be intentionally modified by doping these layers with a strong electron acceptor. By means of optical spectroscopy, the layer morphologies of poly(3-hexylthiophene), P3HT, P3HT-fullerene bulk heterojunction blends, and oligomeric polyquaterthiophene, oligo-PQT-12, are studied as a function of temperature, molecular weight, and processing conditions. The analyses rely on the decomposition of the absorption contributions from the ordered and the disordered parts of the layers. The ordered-phase spectra are analyzed using Spano’s model. It is figured out that the fraction of aggregated chains and the interconnectivity of these domains is fundamental to a high charge carrier mobility. In P3HT layers, such structures can be grown with high-molecular weight, long P3HT chains. Low and medium molecular weight P3HT layers do also contain a significant amount of chain aggregates with high intragrain mobility; however, intergranular connectivity and, therefore, efficient macroscopic charge transport are absent. In P3HT-fullerene blend layers, a highly crystalline morphology that favors the hole transport and the solar cell efficiency can be induced by annealing procedures and the choice of a high-boiling point processing solvent. Based on scanning near-field and polarization optical microscopy, the morphology of oligo-PQT-12 layers is found to be highly crystalline which explains the rather high field-effect mobility in this material as compared to low molecular weight polythiophene fractions. On the other hand, crystalline dislocations and grain boundaries are identified which clearly limit the charge carrier mobility in oligo-PQT-12 layers. The charge transport properties of organic semiconductors can be widely tuned by molecular doping. Indeed, molecular doping is a key to highly efficient organic light-emitting diodes and solar cells. Despite this vital role, it is still not understood how mobile charge carriers are induced into the bulk semiconductor upon the doping process. This thesis contains a detailed study of the doping mechanism and the electrical properties of P3HT layers which have been p-doped by the strong molecular acceptor tetrafluorotetracyanoquinodimethane, F4TCNQ. The density of doping-induced mobile holes, their mobility, and the electrical conductivity are characterized in a broad range of acceptor concentrations. A long-standing debate on the nature of the charge transfer between P3HT and F4TCNQ is resolved by showing that almost every F4TCNQ acceptor undergoes a full-electron charge transfer with a P3HT site. However, only 5% of these charge transfer pairs can dissociate and induce a mobile hole into P3HT which contributes electrical conduction. Moreover, it is shown that the left-behind F4TCNQ ions broaden the density-of-states distribution for the doping-induced mobile holes, which is due to the longrange Coulomb attraction in the low-permittivity organic semiconductors.<br>Organische Halbleiter kombinieren die molekulare Vielfalt und Anpassbarkeit, die mechanische Flexibilität und die preisgünstige Herstellung und Verarbeitung von Kunststoffen mit fundamentalen Halbleitereigenschaften wie Lichtabsorption und -emission und elektrischer Leitfähigkeit. Unlängst finden organische Leuchtdioden Anwendung in den Displays von TV-Geräten und Smartphones. Für die weitere Entwicklung und den Erfolg organischer Halbleiter ist das Verständnis derer physikalischer Grundlagen unabdingbar. Ein für viele Bauteile fundamentaler Prozess ist der Transport von Ladungsträgern in der organischen Schicht. Die Ladungstransporteigenschaften werden maßgeblich durch die Struktur dieser Schicht bestimmt, z.B. durch den Grad der molekularen Ordnung, die molekulare Verbindung von kristallinen Domänen und durch Defekte der molekularen Packung. Mittels optischer Spektroskopie werden in dieser Arbeit die temperatur-, molekulargewichts- und lösemittelabhängigen Struktureigenschaften poly- und oligothiophenbasierter Schichten untersucht. Dabei basiert die Analyse der Absorptionsspektren auf der Zerlegung in die spezifischen Anteile geordneten und ungeordneten Materials. Es wird gezeigt, dass sich hohe Ladungsträgerbeweglichkeiten dann erreichen lassen, wenn der Anteil der geordneten Bereiche und deren molekulare Verbindung in den Schichten möglichst hoch und die energetische Unordnung in diesen Bereichen möglichst klein ist. Der Ladungstransport in organischen Halbleitern kann außerdem gezielt beeinflusst werden, indem die Ladungsträgerdichte und die elektrische Leitfähigkeit durch molekulares Dotieren, d.h. durch das Einbringen von Elektronenakzeptoren oder -donatoren, eingestellt werden. Obwohl der Einsatz dotierter Schichten essentiell für effiziente Leuchtdioden und Solarzellen ist, ist der Mechanismus, der zur Erzeugung freier Ladungsträger im organischen Halbleiter führt, derzeit unverstanden. In dieser Arbeit wird der Ladungstransfer zwischen dem prototypischen Elektronendonator P3HT und dem Akzeptor F4TCNQ untersucht. Es wird gezeigt, dass, entgegen verbreiteter Vorstellungen, fast alle F4TCNQ-Akzeptoren einen ganzzahligen Ladungstransfer mit P3HT eingehen, aber nur 5% dieser Paare dissoziieren und einen beweglichen Ladungsträger erzeugen, der zur elektrischen Leitfähigkeit beiträgt. Weiterhin wird gezeigt, dass die zurückgelassenen F4TCNQ-Akzeptorionen Fallenzustände für die beweglichen Ladungsträger darstellen und so die Ladungsträgerbeweglichkeit in P3HT bei schwacher Dotierung absinkt. Die elektrischen Kenngrößen Ladungsträgerkonzentration, Beweglichkeit und Leitfähigkeit von F4TCNQ-dotierten P3HT-Schichten werden in dieser Arbeit erstmals in weiten Bereichen verschiedener Akzeptorkonzentrationen untersucht.

Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit dem Einfluss der molekularen Struktur von 2,5-Diphenyl-1,3,4-Oxadiazol-Derivaten auf die Präparierung dünner Schichten mittels Vakuumdeposition. Dünne Schichten von diesen Substanzen wurden auf Si/SiO2 aufgedampft und ihre Struktur systematisch mittels XSR, AFM und IR untersucht. Das Ergebnis zeigt, dass die Schichtstrukturen offenbar von Substratetemperatur (Ts) abhängig sind. Im untersuchten Ts-Bereich bilden etherverbrückte Oxadiazole immer geordnete Schichten und die Schichtperiodicität hängt linear von der Längen der aliphatischen Ketten, während sich bei den amidverbrückten Oxadiazolen nur bei hohen Ts geordnete Schichten bilden können. Diese Unterschiede sind auf die intermolekularen Wasserstoffbrücken zurückzuführen. Der Tilt-Winkel der Moleküle ist durch die Wechselwirkung zwischen dem aromatischen Teil bestimmt. Die Wechselwirkungen zwischen den Kopfgruppen können durch Tempern abgeschwächt werden und führen zur Strukturumwandlung von Schichten, die auf etherverbrückten Oxadiazolen basieren. Alle Schichten von etherverbrückten Oxadiazolen haben Doppelschicht-Struktur, aber amidverbrückte Oxadiazole bilden nur Doppelschicht-Strukturen, wenn die Moleküle eine Kopfgruppe besitzen.<br>The correlations between the chemical structures of the 2,5-diphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole compounds and their corresponding vapour deposited film structures on Si/SiO2 were systematically investigated with AFM, XSR and IR for the first time. The result shows that the film structure depends strongly on the substrate temperature (Ts). For the compounds with ether bridge group, the film periodicity depends linearly on the length of the aliphatic chain. The films based on those oxadiazols have ordered structure in the investigated substrate temperature region, while die amide bridged compounds form ordered film only at high Ts due to the formation of intermolecular H-bond. The tilt angle of most molecules is determined by the pi-pi complexes between the molecules. The intermolecular interaction between head groups leads to the structural transformation during the thermal treatment after deposition. All the ether bridged oxadiazoles form films with bilayer structure, while amide bridged oxadiazole form film bilayer structure only when the molecule has a head group.

Andrej Tarkovskij ist es gelungen, sich mit einem relativ kleinen Oeuvre in die Filmgeschichte einzuschreiben, obwohl fast alle seine Filme als schwer verständlich gelten. Legenden ranken sich um sie. Die Protokollierung des Films Stalker soll der intensiveren wissenschaftlichen Erforschung eine verlässliche Grundlage bieten. Das Nachwort untersucht das Verhältnis des Films zu der literarischen Vorlage und stellt ihn in russische Traditionen. Dabei werden einige nicht nur in Deutschland populäre Legenden berichtigt.

In dieser Arbeit wird die Wirkungs- und Entstehungsgeschichte des Schauspiels „Der Andere“ (1893) von Paul Lindau (1819-1839) untersucht. Der Fokus richtet sich auf die vielfältigen intertextuellen und intermedialen Verknüpfungen des Stückes, die sich über einen Zeitraum von 40 Jahren erstrecken. „Der Andere“ inszeniert einen Fall von Bewusstseinsspaltung, in welchem der Protagonist, ein angesehener Berliner Staatsanwalt, unwissentlich ein nächtliches Doppelleben führt und infolgedessen einen Einbruch in sein eigenes Haus begeht. Hier wird insbesondere den Wechselbeziehungen von medizinischen und medialen Diskursen nachgegangen, da „Der Andere“ nicht nur von nervenmedizinischer Seite als psychiatrischer Fall aufgegriffen, sondern 1913 unter Beteiligung Lindaus als erster deutscher 'Autorenfilm' und 1930 als erster Tonfilm Robert Wienes produziert worden ist. Während filmhistorische Untersuchungen den Befund der errungenen 'Feuilletonfähigkeit' des Stummfilmes festhielten, blieb das Interesse an dem Theaterstück von Seiten der Literaturwissenschaft bislang gering. Ihm war der Status als Vorlage beschieden, die aufgrund ihrer gespaltenen Hauptfigur Verbindungen zu Robert Louis Stevensons „Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde“ und Hippolyte Taines „De l'Intelligence“ herzustellen scheint, welche bis heute undifferenziert als zentrale Prätexte tradiert worden sind. Verfolgt man hingegen die Spur von weniger prominenten Prätexten, ergibt sich ein vollständigeres Bild. Es stellt sich heraus, dass Lindau eine wesentliche Anregung aus einer unter Pseudonym verfassten französischen Novelle bezog, die er selbst ins Deutsche übersetzte, und dass das Spaltungskonzept von „Der Andere“ diesem Prätext samt seiner Anlehnung an Hippolyte Taine folgt. Auch verweist die Novelle Jeanne Weills auf einen prominenten Fall des Mediziners Adrien Proust, dem Vater Marcel Prousts, der einen straffällig gewordenen Juristen hypnotisch behandelte. Die Diagnose alternierender Bewusstseinszustände führte in diesem Fall zur Annullierung des Schuldspruchs. Durch den Wechsel in das Medium Film konnten wiederum Verbindungen etabliert werden, die den Bezug auf diese Prätexte verlagerten, überschrieben und/oder aktualisierten. So zieht der Stummfilm als wissenschaftliche Rückversicherung allein die schon damals überholte Studie Taines heran, während die spätere Tonverfilmung das psychoanalytische Konzept Freuds als Erklärungsmuster anbietet. Die Untersuchung zeigt am Beispiel von „Der Andere“, dass mediale, literarische und psychologische Diskurse fest miteinander verwoben sind. Ideen und Konzepte zirkulieren zwischen ihnen, weshalb sich die Grenzen zwischen authentischen und fiktiven Fallgeschichten als durchlässig erweisen. Im Falle von „Der Andere“ setzten diese Austauschprozesse eine besonders hohe Produktivität frei.

Reversible changes in the self-organization of polysoaps may be induced by controlling their charge numbers via covalently bound redox moieties. This is illustrated with two viologen polysoaps, which in response to an electrochemical stimulus, change their solubility and aggregation in water, leading from homogeneously dissolved and aggregated molecules to collapsed ones and vice verse. Using the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM), it could be shown that the reversibility of this process is better than 95% in 16 cycles.

Previous papers in this Special Series, have described in detail the theoretical background and development patterns, along with some empirical results, for the privatisation processes in Bulgaria and Poland. A range of issues have been raised which demand closer empirical investigation. For this purpose, the research group has developed questionnaire studies for Bulgaria and Poland. In Bulgaria, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) carried out the case studies between February and April 1998. The problems of the questionnaire set-up were identified in apre-test study, but unlike the Polish case, they led to only minor differentiation. Since financial limitations prevented a larger sample size, a sample size of 61 mid-sized and large Bulgarian enterprises was selected. Failure to respond was not a serious problem, unlike with the Polish questionnaire; this is because the NSI has maintained good links to the enterprise sector and management were prepared to give detailed answers, even on questions of their firms' financial status. However, as the Polish experience suggests, it has become obvious that the privatisation process is also associated with management's increasing reluctance to answer comparatively 'intimate' questions. Thus, future questionnaire studies must take a much higher rate of refusals into consideration. The pre-selection procedure in Bulgaria was determined by the project target, which sought to analyse the effects of the privatisation process on firm' s behaviour during the transition process, and hence only firms which had already existed before the changes were included. For small and medium-size enterprises (SME's), most of which were founded after the changes, partly due to the legal processes of spontaneous privatisation, some empirical, as weIl as analytical, studies were carried out. Thus, the research group limited the scope of investigation to enterprises with more than 250 employees. The underlying hypothesis is that employment problems are concentrated in larger firms, in particular amongst those still (partly) state owned. Because of the former ownership structures and relatively slower capacity for management change, the assumption is that state-owned enterprises (SOE's) which have only been recently privatised might still have traditional links to government even after privatisation. On the one hand, the SME's are obviously more prone to, and linked with, market processes. As a result, they don't have the financial potential and incentives to follow job-hoarding strategies. On the other hand, there are almost no SME's which are still stateowned. Hence, the prevailing opinion in the literature is that 'larger industrial firms were apt to be least efficient, most often producing inadequate and non-competitive products, with a high degree ofunder-utilisation oflabour and most inflexible to change' (lones & Nikolov 1997, p. 252). Thus, as mentioned above, though there may be some limitations with regard to firm representation, our sample characterises a number of enterprises that offer fertile ground for the analysis of firms' adjustment to the newly established market realities in a transition economy. Our study is unique in the sense that existing empirical studies on privatisation and enterprise restructuring generally cover the time period just before and after the initial stages of transition, e.g. 1988/89 to 1992. In those studies, samples of firms in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria recognise that behavioural adaptations at the enterprise level had taken place just before the actual privatisation process materialised. Therefore, almost all of the firms under examination were still state-owned. The firms were usually divided according to their performance as 'good', 'average' and 'bad' enterprises. The main findings of those early studies have shown that the macroeconomic adaptations (i.e., macro-level changes which induced micro-level adjustment by the firms), as well as emerging market structures, have created enormous pressures which in turn have influenced firms' economic behaviour, reallocation of resources and consequent restructuring. This evidence supports the hypothesis that the SOE's started restructuring and adjusting their behaviour and performance, in response to the harsh realities of more open markets, before privatisation actually started. In this paper, we seek to present some results on these developments in Bulgaria, at the later stages of transition and privatisation (1992-1996). The aim of our questionnaire study is therefore to show the effects of the privatisation process and ownership on the behavioural adaptations of firms which had once been state-owned or continue to be owned by the state. The period under investigation is 1992 to 1996. For 1990 and 1991, the number of missing values is reactively high and, where relevant, we partly exclude these observations from our analysis. The paper contains seven sections. Section 11 outlines the macroeconomic environment in which our sample firms operate, provides some specifics of the Bulgarian privatisation process, and discusses data quality. Section 111 concentrates on the analysis of privatisation, the specific forms of ownership that resulted from it, and firm size. In Section IV, we describe the trends of the main economic variables within firms (such as employment, wages, labour productivity, etc), and a number of proxies of firm viability, while Section V presents some regression results to corroborate the discussion of the previous section. Section VI gives an overview of survey results of the impact of enterprise determined wage policy, trade union activity and membership, government control, and social benefits on enterprise restructuring. Section VII is a summary of our findings.

The aim of this study is to examine in which cases economic forces or historical singularities prevail in the determination of the long-run distribution of firms. We develop a relatively general model of heterogenous firms' location choice in discrete space. The main force towards an agglomerated structure is the reduction of transaction costs for consumers if firms are located closely, whilst competition and transport costs work towards a more disperse structure. We then assess the importance of the initial conditions by simulating and comparing the resulting distribution of firms for identical economic parameters but varying initial settings. If the equilibrium distributions of firms are similar we conclude that economic forces have prevailed, while differences in the resulting distributions indicate that 'history' is more important. The (dis)similarity of distributions of firms is calculated by means of a measure, which exhibits a number of desirable features.

Im sechsten Band der Reihe Pri ha-Pardes untersucht Ulrike Heikaus die deutschsprachigen Filme, die zwischen 1933 und 1945 aus Mitteleuropa nach Palästina importiert und einer breiten Öffentlichkeit vorgeführt wurden. Im Mittelpunkt der Analyse steht die Bedeutung und Repräsentation dieser deutschsprachigen Filme in der palästinensischen Filmkultur, ihre Wahrnehmung und Rezeption, vor allem durch die deutschsprachigen Einwanderer selbst. Mehr als zweihundert deutschsprachige Filme wurden in den palästinensischen Kinotheatern während der Jahre 1930 bis 1945 in Palästina zum Teil über Jahre hinweg regelmäßig aufgeführt. Doch wie sehr waren diese Filme tatsächlich in der hebräischsprachigen Öffentlichkeit präsent? Wie wurde für sie geworben? Und wie wurden diese Filme von den deutschsprachigen Einwanderer wahrgenommen? Antworten dazu geben dabei vor allem die in Palästina in den dreißiger und vierziger Jahren erschienenen Zeitungen in deutscher Sprache, die den Neueinwanderern als Mittel zur sozialen Kommunikation und Plattform für gesellschaftliches, kulturelles und soziales Leben zur Verfügung standen. Untersucht werden ferner Materialien israelischer Archive, die über den Aspekt des deutschsprachigen Filmimports und die Vermarktung der Filme im Kontext der frühen Kinokultur im damaligen Palästina Aufschluss geben.<br>The focus of this study are the numerous German-speaking films, which were imported to Palestine from Europe between 1933 and 1945 and screened for a broad public. The importance and representation of these films for the young film culture of Palestine, their perception and reception, especially by the German-speaking Jews, will be investigated and analysed in this thesis.

Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit der Synthese und der Charakterisierung von thermoresponsiven Polymeren und ihrer Immobilisierung auf festen Oberflächen als nanoskalige dünne Schichten. Dabei wurden thermoresponsive Polymere vom Typ der unteren kritischen Entmischungstemperatur (engl.: lower critical solution temperature, LCST) verwendet. Sie sind bei niedrigeren Temperaturen im Lösungsmittel gut und nach Erwärmen oberhalb einer bestimmten kritischen Temperatur nicht mehr löslich; d. h. sie weisen bei einer bestimmten Temperatur einen Phasenübergang auf. Als Basismaterial wurden verschiedene thermoresponsive und biokompatible Polymere basierend auf Diethylenglykolmethylethermethacrylat (MEO2MA) und Oligo(ethylenglykol)methylethermethacrylat (OEGMA475, Mn = 475 g/ mol) über frei radikalische Copolymerisation synthetisiert. Der thermoresponsive Phasenübergang der Copolymere wurde in wässriger Lösung und in gequollenen vernetzten dünnen Schichten beobachtet. Außerdem wurde untersucht, inwiefern eine selektive Proteinbindung an geeignete funktionalisierte Copolymere die Phasenübergangstemperatur beeinflusst. Die thermoresponsiven Copolymere wurden über photovernetzbare Gruppen auf festen Oberflächen immobilisiert. Die nötigen lichtempfindlichen Vernetzereinheiten wurden mittels des polymerisierbaren Benzophenonderivates 2 (4 Benzoylphenoxy)ethylmethacrylat (BPEM) in das Copolymer integriert. Dünne Filme der Copolymere mit ca. 100 nm Schichtdicke wurden über Rotationsbeschichtung auf Siliziumwafer aufgeschleudert und anschließend durch Bestrahlung mit UV Licht vernetzt und auf der Oberfläche immobilisiert. Die Filme sind stabiler je größer der Vernetzeranteil und je größer die Molmasse der Copolymere ist. Bei einem Waschprozess nach der Vernetzung wird beispielsweise aus einem Film mit moderater Molmasse und geringem Vernetzeranteil mehr unvernetztes Copolymer ausgewaschen als bei einem höhermolekularen Copolymer mit hohem Vernetzeranteil. Die Quellbarkeit der Polymerschichten wurde mit Ellipsometrie untersucht. Sie ist größer je geringer der Vernetzeranteil in den Copolymeren ist. Schichten aus thermoresponsiven OEG Copolymeren zeigen einen Volumenphasenübergang vom Typ der LCST. Der thermoresponsive Kollaps der Schichten ist komplett reversibel, die Kollapstemperatur kann über die Zusammensetzung der Copolymere eingestellt werden. Für einen Vergleich dieser Eigenschaften mit dem gut charakterisierten und derzeit wohl am häufigsten untersuchten thermoresponsiven Polymer Poly(N-isopropylacrylamid) (PNIPAM) wurden zusätzlich photovernetzte Schichten aus PNIPAM hergestellt und ebenfalls ellipsometrisch vermessen. Im Vergleich zu PNIPAM verläuft der Phasenübergang der Schichten aus den Copolymeren mit Oligo(ethylenglykol)-seitenketten (OEG Copolymere) über einen größeren Temperaturbereich. Mit Licht einer Wellenlänge > 300 nm wurden die photosensitiven Benzophenongruppen selektiv angeregt. Bei der Verwendung kleinerer Wellenlängen vernetzten die Copolymerschichten auch ohne die Anwesenheit der lichtempfindlichen Benzophenongruppen. Dieser Effekt ließ sich zur kontrollierten Immobilisierung und Vernetzung der OEG Copolymere einsetzen. Als weitere Methode zur Immobilisierung der Copolymere wurde die Anbindung über Amidbindungen untersucht. Dazu wurden OEG Copolymere mit dem carboxylgruppenhaltigen 2 Succinyloxyethylmethacrylat (MES) auf mit 3 Aminopropyldimethylethoxysilan (APDMSi) silanisierte Siliziumwafer rotationsbeschichtet, und mit dem oligomeren α, ω Diamin Jeffamin® ED 900 vernetzt. Die Vernetzungsreaktion erfolgte ohne weitere Zusätze durch Erhitzen der Proben. Die Hydrogelschichten waren anschließend stabil und zeigten neben thermoresponsivem auch pH responsives Verhalten. Um zu untersuchen, ob die Phasenübergangstemperatur durch eine Proteinbindung beeinflusst werden kann, wurde ein polymerisierbares Biotinderivat 2 Biotinyl-aminoethylmethacrylat (BAEMA) in das thermoresponsive Copolymer eingebaut. Der Einfluss des biotinbindenen Proteins Avidin auf das thermoresponsive Verhalten des Copolymers in Lösung wurde untersucht. Die spezifische Bindung von Avidin an das biotinylierte Copolymer verschob die Übergangstemperatur deutlich zu höheren Temperaturen. Kontrollversuche zeigten, dass dieses Verhalten auf eine selektive Proteinbindung zurückzuführen ist. Thermoresponsive OEG Copolymere mit photovernetzbaren Gruppen aus BPEM und Biotingruppen aus BAEMA wurden über Rotationsbeschichtung auf Gold- und auf Siliziumoberflächen aufgetragen und durch UV Strahlung vernetzt. Die spezifische Bindung von Avidin an die Copolymerschicht wurde mit Oberflächenplasmonenresonanz und Ellipsometrie untersucht. Die Bindungskapazität der Schichten war umso größer, je kleiner der Vernetzeranteil, d. h. je größer die Maschenweite des Netzwerkes war. Die Quellbarkeit der Schichten wurde durch die Avidinbindung erhöht. Bei hochgequollenen Systemen verursachte eine Mehrfachbindung des tetravalenten Avidins allerdings eine zusätzliche Quervernetzung des Polymernetzwerkes. Dieser Effekt wirkt der erhöhten Quellbarkeit durch die Avidinbindung entgegen und lässt die Polymernetzwerke schrumpfen.<br>This work describes the synthesis and characterization of thermoresponsive polymers and their immobilisation on solid substrates as nanoscale thin films. The used polymers were of the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) type. They are well soluble in a solvent below a and get insoluble above a certain temperature, thus they exhibit a phase transition at a critical temperature. Different thermoresponsive biocompatible copolymers based on oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA475) and di(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (MEO2MA) were synthesized by free radical polymerization. The phase transition was observed in solution and in thin immobilized copolymer layers. Further regarding the phase transition the influence of selective protein binding onto functionalized copolymers was studied. Solid surfaces were modified with thermoresponsive copolymers based on MEO2MA, OEGMA475 and 2 (4 benzoylphenoxy)ethyl methacrylate (BPEM) as photo crosslinkable groups. Thin films of 100 nm thickness were spin-casted onto silicon wafers and subsequently crosslinked and immobilized by irradiation with UV-light. Their stability is controlled by the crosslinker ratio and by the molar mass of the copolymers. For instance a washing process after crosslinking removes more unbound polymer if the polymer contains less crosslinker and has a lower molecular weight. The swellability of the films was investigated by ellipsometry. It gets higher with lower crosslinker ratio. Layers of thermoresponsive copolymers exhibited a swelling/ deswelling phase transition of the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) type. The transition is completely reversible and the transition temperature can be adjusted by the composition of the copolymers. Compared to similarly synthesized photo-crosslinked layers of the well investigated thermoresponsive copolymer poly-(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) the phase transition exceeds a larger temperature range. The photo-crosslinking of the OEG copolymers was accomplished in a controlled manner with light of wavelengths > 300 nm. Light of smaller wavelengths crosslinked the copolymer layers even without the presence of photosensitive groups. This effect could be exploited for a controlled immobilization and crosslinking of the OEG copolymers. As further method for crosslinking the formation of amide bonds was investigated. Therefore OEG copolymers containing 2 succinyloxyethyl methacrylate (MES) were spin-casted onto silicon substrates silanized with (3 aminopropyl)dimethylethoxysilane (APDMSi) and crosslinked with oligomeric α, ω diamine Jeffamin® ED 900. The crosslinking reaction was carried out by annealing the dry substrate. No further additives were added for the reaction. After annealing the hydrogel layers were stable against washing and showed thermoresponsive and pH responsive behaviour. In order to investigate whether the phase transition can be affected by specific protein binding, a polymerizable biotin derivative biotinyl-2-aminoethyl methacrylate (BAEMA) was integrated into the base thermoresponsive OEG copolymer. The influence of avidin on its thermoresponsive behaviour was investigated. The specific binding of avidin to the bioitinylated copolymer caused a marked shift of the transition temperature to higher temperatures. Control experiments proved that this effect can be ascribed to a specific protein binding. Thermoresponsive OEG Copolymers with photo-crosslinkable groups from BPEM and biotin groups from BAEMA were spin casted onto gold and silicon substrates and subsequently crosslinked by irradiation with UV light. The specific binding of Avidin onto the copolymer layer was investigated by surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy and ellipsometry. The binding capacity was higher if the mesh size of the hydrogel layers was higher. Upon binding of the Avidin the swellability of the layers was increased. At temperatures below the phase transition for loosely crosslinked copolymer layers an additional crosslinking effect of Avidin was observed. This effect counteracts the swelling of the hydrogel and leads to a shrinkage of the hydrogel layer.

Wetting and phase transitions play a very important role our daily life. Molecularly thin films of long-chain alkanes at solid/vapour interfaces (e.g. C30H62 on silicon wafers) are very good model systems for studying the relation between wetting behaviour and (bulk) phase transitions. Immediately above the bulk melting temperature the alkanes wet partially the surface (drops). In this temperature range the substrate surface is covered with a molecularly thin ordered, solid-like alkane film ("surface freezing"). Thus, the alkane melt wets its own solid only partially which is a quite rare phenomenon in nature. The thesis treats about how the alkane melt wets its own solid surface above and below the bulk melting temperature and about the corresponding melting and solidification processes.<br> Liquid alkane drops can be undercooled to few degrees below the bulk melting temperature without immediate solidification. This undercooling behaviour is quite frequent and theoretical quite well understood. In some cases, slightly undercooled drops start to build two-dimensional solid terraces without bulk solidification. The terraces grow radially from the liquid drops on the substrate surface. They consist of few molecular layers with the thickness multiple of all-trans length of the molecule. By analyzing the terrace growth process one can find that, both below and above the melting point, the entire substrate surface is covered with a thin film of mobile alkane molecules. The presence of this film explains how the solid terrace growth is feeded: the alkane molecules flow through it from the undercooled drops to the periphery of the terrace.<br> The study shows for the first time the coexistence of a molecularly thin film ("precursor") with partially wetting bulk phase. The formation and growth of the terraces is observed only in a small temperature interval in which the 2D nucleation of terraces is more likely than the bulk solidification. The nucleation mechanisms for 2D solidification are also analyzed in this work. More surprising is the terrace behaviour above bulk the melting temperature. The terraces can be slightly overheated before they melt. The melting does not occur all over the surface as a single event; instead small drops form at the terrace edge. Subsequently these drops move on the surface "eating" the solid terraces on their way. By this they grow in size leaving behind paths from were the material was collected. Both overheating and droplet movement can be explained by the fact that the alkane melt wets only partially its own solid. For the first time, these results explicitly confirm the supposed connection between the absence of overheating in solid and "surface melting": the solids usually start to melt without an energetic barrier from the surface at temperatures below the bulk melting point. Accordingly, the surface freezing of alkanes give rise of an energetic barrier which leads to overheating.<br>Sowohl Benetzung als auch Phasenübergänge spielen eine sehr wichtige Rolle im täglichen Leben. Molekular dünne Filme langkettiger Alkane an Festkörper/Gas-Grenzflächen (z. B. C30H62 an Silizium-Waferoberflächen) sind sehr gute Modellsysteme um die Wechselbeziehung zwischen Benetzungsverhalten und (Volumen-)Phasenübergängen zu untersuchen. In einem Temperaturbereich knapp oberhalb der Volumenschmelztemperatur benetzt die Alkanschmelze die Substratoberfläche nur partiell (Alkantropfen). In diesem Temperaturbereich ist die Substratoberfläche mit einer molekular dünnen, festkörperartig geordneten Alkanschicht bedeckt ("Oberflächengefrieren" ). Die Alkanschmelze benetzt also die eigene Festkörperoberfläche nur partiell, ein in der Natur ziemlich seltenes Phänomen. Die Dissertation beschäftigt sich damit wie die Alkanschmelze ihre eigene Festkörperoberfläche über und unter dem Volumenschmelzpunkt benetzt und mit den entsprechenden Vorgängen beim Schmelzen bzw. Erstarren. Flüssige Alkantropfen lassen sich einige Grad unter ihren Schmelzpunkt unterkühlen ohne sich sofort zu verfestigen. Dieses "Unterkühlungsverhalten" ist üblich und es ist theoretisch qualitativ gut verstanden. Allerdings beobachtet man bei den Alkanen bei leichter Unterkühlung statt einer eventuellen Volumenverfestigung oft die Ausbildung von zweidimensionalen Terrassen aus erstarrtem Alkanen. Die Terrassen wachsen auf der Substratoberfläche radial aus den flüssigen Tropfen. Sie bestehen aus wenigen Alkanlagen mit jeweils der Dicke einer Moleküllänge. Die Analyse der Terrassen-Wachstumsprozesse zeigt, dass die gesamte Substratoberfläche einschliesslich der Terrassen sowohl oberhalb als auch unterhalb der Volumenschmelztemperatur mit einer dünnen Schicht mobiler Alkanmoleküle bedeckt ist. Durch diese Schicht fliessen bei Unterkühlung die Alkane vom unterkühlten Tropfen zur Terrassenkante und liefern den Nachschub für deren Wachstum. Die Untersuchungen zeigen damit erstmalig die Koexistenz eines molekular dünnen Films ("Precursor") mit einer partiell benetzenden Volumenphase. Die Entstehung und das Wachstum der Terrassen wird nur in einem engen Temperaturfenster beobachtet in dem die Keimbildung zweidimensionaler Terrassen wahrscheinlicher ist als die dreidimensionale Volumenverfestigung. Auch dieses Keimbildungsverhalten wird in der Dissertation genauer analysiert. Noch erstaunlicher als das Terrassenwachstum, d. h. das Verfestigungsverhalten ist das Schmelzverhalten der Terrassen. Sie lassen sich bis zu einer gewissen Temperatur überhitzen bevor sie schmelzen! Weiterhin findet bei genügender Überhitzung das Schmelzen nicht gleichzeitig überall statt sondern es entstehen zuerst kleine Alkantropfen an den Terrassenrändern. Diese bewegen sich dann über die Substratoberfläche und "fressen" sich durch die festen Terrassen. Dabei wachsen sie weil sie das geschmolzene Material aufnehmen und hinterlassen eine alkanfreie Spur. Sowohl die Überhitzung als auch die Tropfenbewegung lassen sich damit erklären dass die flüssige Alkanschmelze ihren eigenen Festkörper nur partiell benetzt. Die Ergebnisse bestätigen erstmals explizit den seit vielen Jahrzehnten vermuteten Zusammenhang zwischen der üblicherweise nicht beobachtbaren Überhitzung von Festkörpern und Oberflächenschmelzen: Festkörper beginnen normalerweise ohne Energiebarriere von der Oberfläche an zu schmelzen. Entsprechend bildet das Oberflächengefrieren der Alkane eine Energiebarriere und erlaubt damit deren Überhitzen.

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die phänomenologische Untersuchung der Feuchteempfindlichkeit der elektrischen Eigenschaften dünner Polymerschichten. Diese Untersuchungen stellen gleichzeitig Vorarbeiten zur Entwicklung von Prototypen von zwei polymeren Dünnschicht-Feuchtesensoren dar, die sich durch die spezielle Auswahl der feuchtesensitiven Materialien jeweils durch eine besondere Eigenschaft gegenüber kommerziellen Massenprodukten auszeichnen. Ziel der Entwicklungsarbeiten für den ersten Prototypen war die Konstruktion eines schnellen Feuchtesensors, der plötzliche und sprunghafte Feuchteänderungen in der umgebenden Atmosphäre möglichst rasch detektieren kann. Dafür wurden dünne Schichten von Poly-DADMAC auf Interdigitalstrukturen aufgebracht, die einen möglichst direkten Kontakt zwischen feuchtesensitiver Schicht und umgebender, feuchter Atmosphäre gewährleisten. Als Messgrößen dienten die Wechselstromgrößen Widerstand und Kapazität der Schichten. Die Feuchtekennlinien der Schichten zeigen gute Konstanz und hohe Reproduzierbarkeit. Der Widerstand der Schichten ändert sich durch den Einfluss von Feuchte je nach Schichtdicke um 3 bis 5 Größenordnungen und eignet sich als Messgröße für die Feuchtigkeit im gesamten Feuchtebereich. Die Hysterese der Filme konnte auf kleiner als 2,5% r.F. bestimmt werden, die Reproduzierbarkeit auf besser als 1% r.F. Die Ansprechzeit der Schichten lässt sich schichtdickenabhängig zu 1 bis 10 Sekunden bestimmen. Hierbei zeigen besonders die dünnen Schichten kurze Ansprechzeiten. Zielstellung für den zweiten Feuchtesensor war die Entwicklung eines Prototypen, dessen sensitive Schicht sich biostatisch und biozid verhält, so dass er in biotischen Umgebungen eingesetzt werden kann. Es wurden fünf Polysulfobetaine synthetisiert, deren Biozidität und Biostatik mit dem Kontakttest nach Rönnpagel, dem ISO846-Test und Abbautests bestimmt wurde. Zwei Polymere – Poly-DMMAAPS (BT2) und Poly-[MSA-Styren-Sulfobetain] (BT5) – erwiesen sich als ausreichend biozid und biostatisch. Schichten dieser Polymere wurden auf Interdigitalstrukturen aufgezogen, anschließend wurden die Kennlinien dieser Proben aufgenommen. Die Messwerte zeigen für beide Polymere gute Konstanz und eine hohe Reproduzierbarkeit. BT2-Proben sind zwischen 20% und 80% r.F. besonders empfindlich und zeigen über einen Monat keine Langzeitdrift. Vernetzte Proben zeigen bis 50°C keinen temperaturbedingten Abfall der Feuchteempfindlichkeit. Der Einsatz vernetzter BT5-Schichten als kapazitiver Feuchtesensor ist bis etwa 70°C möglich, die Schichten sind selbst nach Lagerung im Hochvakuum und mehrfacher Betauung stabil. Damit liegen zwei funktionsfähige Prototypen von Feuchtesensoren vor, für die die meisten Kennwerte denen von vergleichbaren kommerziellen Feuchtesensoren entsprechen. Gleichzeitig zeichnen sie sich aber durch eine sehr niedrige Ansprechzeit bzw. eine ausreichende Lebensdauer unter biotischen Bedingungen aus.<br>The topic of this work is the phenomenological investigation of the humidity sensitivity of the electrical properties of thin polymer films. These investigations also act as preparatory work for the development of prototypes of two polymer thin film humidity sensors, which by the choice of the humidity sensitive materials stand out by one special property each compared with commercial mass products. The aim of the development work for the first prototype was the construction of a fast humidity sensor, which can rapidly detect sudden and erratic humidity changes in the surrounding atmosphere. Thin films of poly-DADMAC were prepared on interdigitated structures that allow for undisturbed contact between the sensitive layer and the surrounding humid atmosphere. Measured variables were the ac resistance and capacity of the films. The humidity characteristics of the films show good stability and high reproducibility. Under the influence of humidity the resistance of the films changes by 3 to 5 orders of magnitude, depending on the film thickness, and is suitable to measure the humidity in the entire humidity range. The hysteresis of the films is lower than 2.5% r.h., the reproducibility better than 1% r.h. The response time of the layers can be determined to 1 to 10 seconds, depending on their thickness. The thin films, specifically, show very short response times. The aim for the second humidity sensor was the development of a prototype, where the sensitive film is biostatic and biocide, so that it can be used to measure the humidity in biotic environments. Five polysulfobetaines were synthesized and their biocidity and biostatics were tested with the contact test according to Rönnpagel, the ISO846 test and degradation tests. Two of the polymers - poly-DMMAAPS (BT2) and poly-[MSA-styrene-sulfobetaine] (BT5) - showed sufficient biocidity and biostatics. Films of these polymers were prepared on interdigitated structures, then their humidity characteristics were recorded. The measured values show good stability and high reproducibility for both polymers. Samples of BT2 are highly sensitive between 20% and 80% r.h. and show no long-term drift after one month. Cross-linked samples show no decrease of the humidity sensitivity in temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius. Cross-linked films of BT5 can be used as a capacitive humidity sensor up to 70 degrees Celsius, and the samples are stable even after storage in high vacuum and multiple dew cycles. These two functional prototypes of humidity sensors show characteristic data comparable to those of commercial sensors. However, they stand out, respectively, with a very short response time and a sufficient life time in biotic environments.

Ken Loach has been playing an important role for the British cinema for more than five decades now. His work has gained international regocnition and recieved various prestigious awards. Some of his films were even quite successful at the box office, nevertheless many people have still not heard of him. That is regrettable, because Loach is without doubt one of the best in his field. This paper is meant to show what distinguishes his films from the work of other directors and explains why his films are of such great value. Loach's career can be broadly divided into three stages, which will be specified in the first chapter of the paper. Afterwards three examples were chosen to illustrate Loach's working methods and the results of these. The films Kes (1969), Riff-Raff (1991) and My Name Is Joe (1998) are dealt with in separate chapters in chronological order, in this way the development of Loach's career can be reproduced. First the contents and backgrounds of the particular films will be briefly explained, followed by the analysis of important aspects of Loach's work based on the examples.<br>Ken Loach ist seit mehr als fünf Jahrzehnten ein wichtiger Teil der britischen Filmszene. Längst hat seine Arbeit auch international Anerkennung gefunden und wurde mit vielen renommierten Auszeichnungen bedacht. Einige seiner Filme liefen sogar an den Kinokassen recht erfolgreich, trotzdem ist er für viele Menschen noch immer kein Begriff. Das ist sehr bedauerlich, denn Loach gehört zweifelsohne zu den ganz Großen in seinem Fach. Diese Arbeit soll aufzeigen, worin seine Filme sich von den Werken anderer Regisseure unterscheiden und warum sie so wertvoll sind. Loachs Werdegang lässt sich grob in drei Phasen unterteilen, welche im ersten Teil der Arbeit näher beschrieben werden. Anschließend wurden drei Beispiele ausgewählt, mit deren Hilfe Loachs Arbeitsweise und die dadurch erzielte Wirkung veranschaulicht werden. Den Filmen Kes (1969),Riff-Raff (1991) und My Name Is Joe (1998) ist in chronologischer Reihenfolge jeweils ein Kapitel gewidmet, um auf diese Weise auch eine Entwicklung in Loachs Laufbahn nachvollziehen zu können. Die Inhalte und die Hintergründe der einzelnen Filme werden zunächst kurz erläutert, um dann anschließend auf wichtige Aspekte von Loachs Schaffen anhand der Beispiele einzugehen.

When azobenzene-modified photosensitive polymer films are irradiated with light interference patterns, topographic variations in the film develop that follow the electric field vector distribution resulting in the formation of surface relief grating (SRG). The exact correspondence of the electric field vector orientation in interference pattern in relation to the presence of local topographic minima or maxima of SRG is in general difficult to determine. In my thesis, we have established a systematic procedure to accomplish the correlation between different interference patterns and the topography of SRG. For this, we devise a new setup combining an atomic force microscope and a two-beam interferometer (IIAFM). With this set-up, it is possible to track the topography change in-situ, while at the same time changing polarization and phase of the impinging interference pattern. To validate our results, we have compared two photosensitive materials named in short as PAZO and trimer. This is the first time that an absolute correspondence between the local distribution of electric field vectors of interference pattern and the local topography of the relief grating could be established exhaustively. In addition, using our IIAFM we found that for a certain polarization combination of two orthogonally polarized interfering beams namely SP (↕, ↔) interference pattern, the topography forms SRG with only half the period of the interference patterns. Exploiting this phenomenon we are able to fabricate surface relief structures below diffraction limit with characteristic features measuring only 140 nm, by using far field optics with a wavelength of 491 nm. We have also probed for the stresses induced during the polymer mass transport by placing an ultra-thin gold film on top (5–30 nm). During irradiation, the metal film not only deforms along with the SRG formation, but ruptures in regular and complex manner. The morphology of the cracks differs strongly depending on the electric field distribution in the interference pattern even when the magnitude and the kinetic of the strain are kept constant. This implies a complex local distribution of the opto-mechanical stress along the topography grating. The neutron reflectivity measurements of the metal/polymer interface indicate the penetration of metal layer within the polymer resulting in the formation of bonding layer that confirms the transduction of light induced stresses in the polymer layer to a metal film.<br>Azobenzolhaltige Polymere gehören zu einer Klasse funktionaler Materialien, bei denen durch ein äußeres Strahlungsfeld eine starke mechanische Reaktion ausgelöst werden kann. Durch die Bindung an das Polymerrückgrat können die Azobenzole, die unter UV-Belichtung eine Photoisomerisierung ausführen, was zum Teil drastische Effekte zur Folge hat. Unter Belichtung mit Intensitätsmustern, d.h. mit räumlich variierender Verteilung der Polarisation oder der Intensität des einfallenden Lichts verändert sich die Topographie der azobenzolhaltigen Filme, was zur Bildung von Oberflächengittern (engl. Surface Relief Gratings, SRG) führt. In dieser Arbeit wurde eine neue Methode vorgeschlagen, bei der das Verhalten elastischer/morphologischer Eigenschaften unter verschiedenen Belichtungsbedingungen, d.h. mit unterschiedlicher Verteilung der Polarisation und der Intensität in situ lokal als Funktion der Position entlang der SRG aufgenommen werden kann. Außerdem wurde hier vorgeschlagen, opto-mechanische Spannungen, die innerhalb der photosensitiven Polymerfilme während der Belichtung entstehen, mit Hilfe dünner aufgebrachter metallischen Schichten abzubilden und zu analysieren.

This thesis discusses the impact of the counterculture on Australian cinema in the late 20thcentury through the work of the Sydney Underground Film group, Ubu. This group, active between 1965 -1970, was a significant part of an underground counter culture, to which many young Australians subscribed. As a group, Ubu was more than a rat bag assemblage of University students. It was an antipodean aspect of an ongoing artistic and political movement that began with the European avant-garde at the beginning of the 20th century and that radically transformed artistic conventions in theatre, painting, literature, photography and film. Three purposes underpin this thesis: firstly to track the art historical links between a European avant-garde heritage and Ubu. Experimental film is a genre that is informed by cross art form interrelations between theatre, painting, literature, photography and film and the major modernist aesthetic philosophies of the last century. Ubu's revolutionary aesthetic approaches included political resistance and the involvement of audiences in the production of art. Their creative wellspring drew from: Alfred Jarry, Dadaism, Surrealism, Futurism, Fluxus, Conceptual and Pop art. This cross fertilization between the arts is critical to understanding not only the Australian experimental movement but the history of contemporary image making. The second purpose is to fill a current void of research about early Australian Experimental film. This is a significant gap given it was a national movement with many international connections. The counterculture movement also contains many major figures in Australian art history. These individuals played their parts in the Sydney Push, Oz magazine and the activities of the Yellow House and have since become important multi arts practitioners and commentators. Thirdly, the thesis attempts to evaluate Ubu's political and social agenda for the democratization of film appreciation through their objectives of: production, exhibition, distribution and debate of experimental film both nationally and internationally. Ultimately the group would succeed in these objectives and in winning the war on repressive censorship laws. Their influence has informed the practice of many of Australia's current film heavy weights. Two key films have been selected for analysis, It Droppeth as the Gentle Rain (1963) and Newsfront (1978). The first looks forward to Ubu's contemporary practices and political agenda while the second demonstrates their longer term influences on mainstream cinema.

It was found that both the crystallinity and thermoelectric transport properties are highly affected by the chemical nonstoichiometry. The microstructure and chemical composition analysis was conducted with X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectrometer, and the thermoelectric properties were assessed by measurements of Seebeck coefficient, electrical resistivity and Hall coefficient. The thermoelectric (TE) Sb2Te3 thin films were deposited on glass and Si substrates using unbalanced magnetron sputtering (UBMS) technique. The influence of bias voltage on the chemical composition, surface morphology, crystallinity and thermoelectric properties of the films were investigated. The ionization of both sputtering sources was significantly enhanced by the closed field unbalanced magnetron configuration to allow improved crystallization and thin film microstructure. Results showed that obvious crystallinity of Sb2Te3 with dense texture was observed when substrate bias was applied. All of the synthesized crystalline Sb2Te3 films were deposited at room temperature. The Sb content of Sb2Te3 films exhibited linear dependence at fixed Te target power. Stoichiometric Sb2Te3 film could be obtained by Sb target power manipulation. The X-ray diffraction showed the result of Sb2Te3 (015) preferential orientation due to substrate bias with the sputtering III magnetron configuration. The optimized Seebeck coefficient and power factor were 249.0 μV/K and 14.3×10-5 W/K2-m, respectively with -100V substrate bias application

The power of the bismuth and telluride targets was controlled separately to maintain the film stoichiometry. The influence of bias voltage on the chemical composition, surface morphology, crystallinity and thermoelectric properties of the films were investigated. The ionization of both metallic species was significantly enhanced by the closed field unbalanced magnetron (CFUBM) configuration to allow improved crystallization and thin film microstructure. Surface morphology and microstructure of bismuth telluride films was observed with the FESEM. Results show that obvious crystallinity of Bi2Te3 with dense texture was observed when substrate bias was applied. In this study, synthesized crystalline Bi2Te3 films on low deposition temperature (<100oC) without annealing were investigated. The Te content of Bi2Te3 films shows linear dependence on the Te target power. Stoichiometric Bi2Te3 film could be obtained by controlling of the Te cathode power. Thermoelectric properties were disclosed by measurement of the seebeck coefficient, resistivity and carrier mobility. The bias voltage of substrates and sputtering magnetron configuration were found to be very effective in improving the thermoelectric properties of Bi2Te3 thin films in this research. Maximum seebeck coefficient and power factor were obtained at pulsed DC bias applied and CFUBM. (about -129μV/K and 3.0x10-4 W/K2-m respectively).

碩士<br>國立清華大學<br>工程與系統科學系<br>92<br>Nanocrystalline TiN thin films were successfully deposited on Si (100) and D2 steel substrates using unbalanced magnetron sputtering (UBMS) system. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of film thickness and Ti interlayer thickness on the composition, structures, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of TiN film. The results showed that (111) was the dominant preferred orientation in the TiN films. The effects of the film thickness were only slightly varied on the N/Ti ratio, roughness, and grain size. The packing factor was almost constant with film thickness and the thinnest specimen reached a quite high packing factor of 0.8. Nanoindentation data, ranging from 22~29 GPa, indicated that hardness of the films was not related to the film texture and film thickness. The residual stresses of all TiN films were compressive, and mostly decreased with increasing film thickness in TiN/D2 specimens. Interfacial shear stress induced from the residual stress was increased with film thickness, whereas the residual stress was not necessarily increased with film thickness. In the bi-layer TiN/Ti coating, there was a critical Ti interlayer thickness (120~150nm) to effectively reduce the thermal stress and residual stress in the TiN coating. The results of potentiodynamic polarization scan in both 5% NaCl and 0.5M H2SO4 + 0.05M KSCN solutions indicated that packing factor was more effective than film thickness to the corrosion resistance for the coating. Furthermore, increasing film thickness or adding a Ti interlayer could effectively protect the substrate from the corrosive medium, if the packing factor was sufficiently high.

Cada vez mais há uma grande necessidade de Comunicação, que esta esteja estruturada e planificada. As Universidades não fogem a este facto e cada vez mais se preocupam com vários aspectos comunicacionais. A UBI não foge à regra e estas preocupações são deixadas ao cuidado do Gabinete de Relações Públicas, que se dedica a promover e potenciar a imagem da Instituição juntos dos seus diferentes públicos, inserindo as suas acções num mundo global e comunicante. Contudo, o curso de cinema sentia uma forte necessidade de divulgar melhor os seus filmes. São filmes realizados pelos alunos de 1º e 2º ciclo, que, apresentam um excelente percurso, muitas vezes em concursos de renome, que potencializam a imagem do curso, Universidade e do trabalho que aqui é realizado. O presente relatório resulta de um estágio de três meses junto do curso de Cinema. É apresentado uma descrição das actividades desenvolvidas e delineado um plano de comunicação adequado à entidade acolhedora. A partir de uma análise da importância estratégica do planeamento da comunicação em Relações Públicas é apresentado um plano de comunicação que possibilite a projecção de uma imagem positiva e coerente do curso de cinema da UBI.<br>There is an increasingly need for communicatios, and it must be structured and planned. Universities are no exception to this fact and the concerns around the aspects of communication are growing. UBI is not diferente and his Office of Public Relations is in charge of promoting and enhancing the image of the institution to their diferente audiences, inserting their actions in a global and communicative world. However, the Cinema degree had a strong need to better publicize their movies. These movies are made by the students of 1st and 2nd cycle, have shown na excelente route, often in renown competitions, which enhance the image of the degree, university and work done there. This report stems from a three month internship with the Cinema degree. A description of the activities is presented and an appropriate communication plan is designed to the host entity. From a strategic point of analysis of the communication planning in Public Relations, a communication plan that allows the projection of a positive and coherent image of the Cinema degree of UBI is presented.
