Full textThe research about unidentified flying objects has started in the late 1940s in France. All this is the doing of those who are commonly known in French as the soucoupistes (the researchers in this field). Currently with this mainly individual initiative, the army also has made their own enquiries. Their interest for the question has proved consistent since the 1940s although the details about their implication and their action have been uneasy to know. As for them, the soucoupistes (or French ufologists) have joined together and the first major private groups have come out in the 1950s to become widespread in the late 1960s. Nonetheless, the decade of the 1970s was the golden age of ufology research in France : there were hundreds of organizations and thousands of ufologists. A real reasearch network came out. This network has revolved both around groups of people and individuals, who publish in specialized reviews, and they try to connect to a booming public scientific ufology. The latter, which is under the aegis of the CNES, is known as GEPAN. The department has been often renamed but still exists today. It is based on the army, mainly on the police force, but also on some administrations which provide them with information about UFO. French ufology, which has been in decline since the 1980s, is characterized by the coexistence of a private research network and a public one. Except for a few occasions, both of them have hardly collaborated and this situation explains why ufologists haven’t found many results

______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This dissertation is the result of an ethnographical study of a Brazilian UFOlogists collective. The ethnography follows their processes of knowledge construction, the relation between the researchers and the extraterrestrials and the activism towards the disclosure of UFO documents possessed by the State. The main topics of this work are the way UFOlogists build their knowledge in relation to a certain image of Science, their elaborations on secrecy and the problem of disinformation. It claims that what defines Ufology, as a specific set of relations, is the fact that in order to persist, its objet, its main theme, must remain invisible. This work discusses the problem of "belief", the processes of evidence construction undertaken by the Brazilian UFOlogists and the ways they present their data.

This dissertation aims to present and analyze how traditionally Christian/Catholic contents are re-articulated within interpretations and New Age practices. The study seeks to understand the joints and tensions between New Age and Christianity, starting from the thought of Trigueirinho Netto, author of dozens of books on spirituality and esotericism, with content ranging from life on other planets to reinterpretations of Christ's crucifixion. Trigueirinho is the founder of a rural alternative community, the Comunidade Figueira, and the founder of the Ordem Graça Misericórdia, created in conjunction with friars and nuns seers at the request of Our Lady. In addition to the alternative community, urban groups of followers accompanying lectures of leaders and apparitions of Mary through the internet. Thus, the dissertation is based on the analysis of Trigueirinho cosmology, the Ordem Graça Misericórdia, by two ethnographies: the first, on the urban group of followers, and the second, on-line, on Mary's appearance celebration.

Full textUnidentified flying object, UFO, since its origins this phenomenon remained enigmatic and elusive. This study proposes to study people, saucers, or "ufologists" to use their own terminology, and the discipline they created to try to unravel this mystery. The ufology was built around the UFO object to try to illuminate it in many ways. So there is not a single ufology, but many, divided between different generations : the first, born after the Second World War, convinced of the materiality of UFOs ; the second, from 1977, who sees in this object the manifestation of human psychology ; the third, from the beginning of the 90s, convinced that the UFO hides the darkest designs of occult governments ; and the fourth, after the 2000s, for which the UFO is above all a media product. These four generations still live today, and feed on each other. Many ufologists devote their entire lives to UFOs, marked by an observation, an idea or a fear. They feed, along with their quest for truth, a real inter-generational war where each statement is recovered and diverted to the advantage of the camp that brandishes it.This study provides an overview

Full textIn this thesis, we wonder how countercultural movement found new places of expression through the increased accessibility of audiovisual, thanks to "free radio" fight. Specifically, we want to know why and how society and the French media have enabled the establishment of an alternative media like Radio Ici et Maintenant (RIM) and how this radio has found a viable business model to spread its ideology. We shall see that the existence and persistence of RIM is due to the combination of two factors: firstly the reduction in the cost of entry into the radio broadcasting through the development and struggle of "free radio" that gave birth to associative radios (with their specific legal and economic model) and also the decrease in the cost of entering the religious market with the development of the French New Age counterculture issue of the American counterculture, itself the result of religious thoughts Western alternatives (related to the esoteric, the mediumship) and Eastern religions (Hinduism and Buddhism). Thus, the specific legal and economic model of associative radios allowed to live and persist "radiolibriste" and New Age ideology within RIM. But add that this model would not have been possible if it had not been worn by volunteer facilitators, invited activists and active listeners which we analyze the sociological profile. The scientific interest of this subject is the fact that it is mainly to study RIM which is an old "free radio". She was one of the most important radio stations in the movement. It is the oldest Parisian private local radio station. Today, it is a community radio (category A). This category corresponds to a large number of radio stations (about 600), but these are little studied. Finally, this is a New Age radio and one of the only French audiovisual media New Age. Crossing history and sociology of religion, media, communication, politics, science, this thesis is based on a constant listening, on numerous interviews and informal discussions on the study of different archives (paper, audio, digital) and numerous ethnographic observations. We give in the first part scientific tools to analyze this phenomenon. We will then see in which historical, radio, economic, social, legal and political context RIM appeared and continues to exist today. Finally, we focus on the proposed radio model and the actors of this radio
