Twenty-four hourly urinary growth hormone excretion (24-h uGH) has been quantified using a combination of ultrafiltration and conventional immunoradiometric assay. Twenty-four hourly uGH was measured in 20 normal adults and in 42 patients with acromegaly (9 untreated, 28 treated but with above-normal IGF-I levels, and 5 treated and cured). The means and ranges were as follows: 3.7 (1–9) ng/24 h for normals and 160(40–540), 66(2–380) and 5.2 (4–8) ng/24 h for the three groups of acromegalic patients, respectively. Ten patients with pituitary adenomas without acromegaly had 24-h uGH within the normal range. Twenty-four hourly uGH therefore gives a clear differentiation between controls and untreated patients. Log-transformed values for subjects with acromegaly showed significant correlations between 24-h uGH and levels of IGF-I (r=0.63, p<0.01), fasting plasma GH (r=0.92, p<0.001) and plasma GH after glucose loading (r=0.85, p<0.001). Twenty-four hourly uGH was also determined in three acromegalic patients before and during SMS 201–995 therapy. Twenty-four hourly uGH reflected the corresponding changes in mean levels for hourly sampling over 12 h of plasma GH and IGF-I and in clinical signs after 3–6 months of therapy. The results of this study indicate that 24-h uGH is an accurate indicator of GH secretion in acromegalic patients and could therefore be used both in diagnosis and in monitoring the progress of therapy in these patients.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the chemical, physical and nutritional composition and sensory acceptability of different sweet potato cultivars to classify the best genotypes for human consumption. We evaluated ten genotypes extracted from the Germplasm bank of Midwest State University, Brazil. The cultivars were evaluated regarding their sensory acceptability and chemical (reducing sugar; nonreducing sugar; total sugar; pH; total soluble solids; titratable acidity; total soluble solids/titratable acidity ratio; and instrumental colour) and nutritional composition (moisture; ash; protein; lipid; carbohydrate; energy value; total carotenoid; and ascorbic acid). Greater scores (p < 0.05) for overall acceptance were obtained for the white pulp genotypes Amorano, Júlia, UGA 45, and UGA 49. There was a statistical difference (p < 0.05) in the chemical and nutritional composition of sweet potatoes, except for the pH values. Generally, tuber have a light colour (values of L* greater than 50) with a yellow shade (b*) and green subshade (negative a* values). The exception was noticed in the UGA 34 genotype, which presented a higher red shade (positive a* value) and a yellow subshade. The cultivars more indicated for human consumption were the UGA 34 (favorable nutritional profile), UGA 45 (better acceptability and favorable chemical and nutritional composition), and Amorano (better acceptability and favorable chemical composition). On the other hand, the UGA 29 genotype may be characterized as the less appropriated for consumption. That, due to its less acceptance from the consumers and an inferior chemical and nutritional characterization. We conclude that the Brazilian sweet potato cultivars more indicated for human consumption are the UGA 34, UGA 45 and Amorano, considering that present more favorable chemical, nutritional and sensory acceptability characteristics. The UGA 29 genotype may be characterized as less recommended for consumption.

Urban green infrastructure (UGI) can be used as a sustainable stormwater management approach. UGI can bring numerous ecological benefits to cities, including increased urban resilience, increased availability of water resources, and optimization of habitats. This paper used empirical research methods to describe an Internet of things (IoT)-based UGI monitoring and control system for stormwater management (MCSSWM). Using a Xuzhou-based practical project in China as a case study, we introduce the construction process, method, and monitoring results of the system. The results showed that the MCSSWM could be beneficial for UGI ecological performance evaluation and management.

Complete emergency measures are one of the important guarantees for effective emergency response. An evaluation method based on User-Generated Content (UGC) data is proposed to assess the completeness of emergency measures. To implement this method, UGC data comprising emergency needs from the users and emergency plans comprising emergency measures for specific emergency were firstly collected using a crawler program. A feature template was then established to identify relationships between different features, and a Conditional Random Field (CRF) model was used to extract emergency measures from the emergency plan and emergency needs from UGC data. The Siamese network was applied thereafter to compute the similarity between the emergency measures and emergency needs. The missing emergency measures were obtained based on the similarities, and a quantitative method to calculate the completeness was defined. Finally, using province A as a case study, the emergency measure completeness was evaluated and the emergency measures that need to be strengthened and improved were identified.

The presence of user generated content (UGC) on online platforms of hotel room booking operators is changing the way consumers book a hotel room. After a critical evaluation of the technology acceptance models (TAM), the authors discuss the variables that will be employed to predict the effective use of online hotel room bookings by Portuguese travellers. The empirical investigation consists of a linear regression model that was built in order to analyse the data obtained from an online survey of 624 customers of the website Booking.com. The results showed that attitude towards UGC and the perceived ease to use of UGC are important determinants on the buyer's decision-making process of booking a hotel room. This result shows the relevance of UGC (ratings and reviews) for online booking operators, as UGC could influence the booking of a particular hotel room. Further, the result also brings important implications for hotel managers that pay less attention to the feedback of the customers.

The impact of an urban growth boundary (UGB) on land development in Knox County, TN is estimated via two-stage probit and neural-network models. The insignificance of UGB variable in the two-stage probit model and more visible development patterns in the western part of Knoxville and the neighboring town of Farragut during the post-UGB period in both models suggest that the UGB has not curtailed urban sprawl. Although the network model is found to be a viable alternative to more conventional discrete choice approach for improving the predictability of land development, it is at the cost of evaluating marginal effects.

PurposeThis paper employs new methods to evaluate the availability of multistate series–parallel systems, in which a number of similar components are available in each subsystem.Design/methodology/approachIn this paper, polynomial distribution function (PDF) is combined with universal generating function (UGF) and recursive algorithm (RA) methods to evaluate the availability of multistate series–parallel systems. To achieve this goal, the PDF is initially used to determine the performance rates and the probabilities corresponding to the performance states of the similar components in a subsystem. The obtained results are used to evaluate the system availability via the UGF and RA methods.FindingsIt is shown that the combined UGF and PDF (UGF-PDF) and also the combined RA and PDF (RA-PDF) methods require less computational time than did the UGF and RA methods, respectively.Originality/valueIn the UGF and RA methods, there is no difference in system availability evaluation time when considering similar or different components in each subsystem. But the proposed methods in this article do not have this restrictions; therefore, these methods can be used to evaluate system availability in optimal redundancy allocation problems. As a result, using these methods reduces the optimization time of those problems.

Object Patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) are at high risk for severe stress-related upper gastrointestinal (UGI) bleeding, which is predictive of higher mortality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of omeprazole and cimetidine compared with a placebo in the prevention and management of stress-related UGI bleeding in patients with ICH. Methods In a single-center, randomized, placebo-controlled study, 184 surgically treated patients with CT-proven ICH within 72 hours of ictus and negative results for gastric occult blood testing were included. Of these patients, 165 who were qualified upon further evaluation were randomized into 3 groups: 58 patients received 40 mg intravenous omeprazole every 12 hours, 54 patients received 300 mg intravenous cimetidine every 6 hours, and 53 patients received a placebo. Patients whose gastric occult blood tests were positive at admission (n = 70) and during/after the prophylaxis procedure (n = 48) were treated with high-dose omeprazole at 80 mg bolus plus 8 mg/hr infusion for 3 days, followed by 40 mg intravenous omeprazole every 12 hours for 7 days. Results Of the 165 assessable patients, stress-related UGI bleeding occurred in 9 (15.5%) in the omeprazole group compared with 15 patients (27.8%) in the cimetidine group and 24 patients (45.3%) in the placebo group (p = 0.003). The occurrence of UGI bleeding was significantly related to death (p = 0.022). Nosocomial pneumonia occurred in 14 patients (24.1%) receiving omeprazole, 12 (22.2%) receiving cimetidine, and 8 (15.1%) receiving placebo (p > 0.05). In patients with UGI bleeding in which high-dose omeprazole was initiated, UGI bleeding arrested within the first 3 days in 103 patients (87.3%). Conclusions Omeprazole significantly reduced the morbidity of stress-related UGI bleeding in patients with ICH due to its effective prophylactic effect without increasing the risk of nosocomial pneumonia, but it did not reduce the 1-month mortality or ICU stay. Further evaluation of high-dose omeprazole as the drug of choice for patients presenting with UGI bleeding is warranted. Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is common surgery performed for gall stone diseases and the gold standard procedure nowadays. But it is sometimes challenging to distinguish whether pain abdomen is due to gallstones or other UGI (upper gastro-intestinal) pathologies. Present study was conducted to rule out UGI pathologies in the patients undergoing cholecystectomy by performing UGI endoscopy as routine for effective management of the cases. The aims and objectives were to study the role of preoperative UGI endoscopy as an investigative modality to rule out UGI disorders in patients with gall stone disease.Methods: The study population consisted of 100 patients admitted for the management of gall stone diseases in KIMS hospital Bengaluru between January 2018 to July 2019. UGI endoscopy was done in all the patients routinely and to look for significant pathologies and patients with upper GI pathologies were adequately treated and later laparoscopic cholecystectomy was done. Postoperative events of pain abdomen were assessed on POD (postoperative day) 7, 14, 30, 60 days.Results: Out of the 100 patients in the study 55 patients (55%) had UGI pathologies on endoscopy and 30 patients (54.5%) are positive for H. pylori, 29 patients (52%) had persistent pain abdomen on POD 60 with p value of 0.001 which is statistically significant and 19 patients (34%) had persistent pain abdomen on POD 30 with p value <0.001 which is statistically significant.Conclusions: Beside its cost effectiveness, UGI endoscopy may potentially help in reducing the incidence of postoperative persistence of symptoms. UGI endoscopy has a vital role in the initial evaluation and investigation of patients with symptomatic gall stones.

This study carries out an evaluation of the recent high-degree combined global gravity-field models (EGM2008, EIGEN-6C4, GECO and SGG-UGM-1) over Kenya. The evaluation is conducted using observed geoid undulations (18 data points, mainly in Nairobi area) and free-air gravity anomalies (8,690 data points, covering the whole country). All the four models are applied at full spherical harmonic degree expansion. The standard deviations of the differences between observed and GGMs implied geoid undulations at 18 GPS/levelling points over Nairobi area are ±11.62, ±11.48, ±12.51 and ±11.75 cm for EGM2008, EIGEN-6C4, GECO and SGG-UGM-1, respectively. On the other hand, standard deviations of the differences between observed and GGMs implied free-air gravity anomalies at 8,690 data points over Kenya are ±10.11, ±10.03, ±10.19 and ±10.00 mGal for EGM2008, EIGEN-6C4, GECO and SGG-UGM-1, respectively. These results indicate that the recent high-degree global gravity-field models generally perform at the same level over Kenya. However, EIGEN6C4 performs slightly better than EGM2008, GECO and SGG-UGM-1, considering the independent check provided by GPS/levelling data (admittedly over a small area). These results further indicate a good prospect for the development of a precise gravimetric geoid model over Kenya using EIGEN-6C4 by integrating local terrestrial gravity data in a removecompute-restore scheme.

Policy monitoring and evaluation are important elements of the policy cycle, this help to initiate policy-makers to assess the proper implementation and adjust it as appropriate. This paper aims to evaluate the existing policy, strategies, and institutional arrangement on the development of urban green infrastructure in the three study areas; namely Hawassa, Wolayita Sodo, and Bodity town. Analyzing policy documents, key informant interview, and questionnaire survey were used to collect the required data. Descriptive statistics and policy analysis were also used to analyze the collected data from different sources. The study revealed that different strategies and standards were developed by the federal government, but it is not practically exercised at the regional and local level. The majority of government officials and experts agreed that existing policies and strategies related to UGI is not properly implemented. On the other hand, lack of policy and strategies are the major limitation in the development and management of UGI. Almost majority of the respondents confirmed that weak institutional arrangement has contributed to the poor implementation of UGI development. Lack of attention and awareness, the weak institutional arrangement is the main responsible factors for the absence of proper policy and poor implementation of strategies concerning UGI. Thus, actions needed for all the development of proper policies and strategies to improve UGI development.

Introduction: Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGE) allows physicians to directly schedule endoscopic procedures for their patients without prior consultation. Evaluation of appropriateness of endoscopic procedures is associated with costs and benefits.
Objectives: To assess the appropriateness of the use of UGE in an open-access setting in Bangladesh.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional multicenter study was conducted among 300 patients referred for UGE at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Suhrawardi Medical College and Hospital from January 2016 to June 2016. The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) guidelines was used to assess the appropriateness of referral. The participants were selected by purposive nonprobability sampling and a pre-tested questionnaire was used for data collection.
Results: Out of 300 respondents 62.3% was male. History of smoking was more in male and taking NSAIDs were more in the female. In UGE 46.7% revealed normal findings but majority 53.3% had some pathology. About 86% cases, UGE was found appropriate according to ASGE guideline and majority appropriate cases 37.3% were referred by internal medicine specialist. Appropriateness of referral among different physicians was not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Appropriateness of referral for UGE performed in tertiary care level hospitals in an open-access setting like Bangladesh was satisfactory.

In a digital world, journalists increasingly integrate user-generated content (UGC) in their coverage. Journalists use coping strategies to dispel the audience’s supposed concerns about the reliability of this new type of sources and to maintain the audience’s confidence in such coverage. Transparency, in particular, is often considered as a means to preserve journalism from accusations of being biased and untrustworthy. We focus on the audience’s perception and evaluation of two transparency strategies: transparency about the origin of UGC and transparency about verification attempts. Based on semi-structured interviews with German users (N = 26), this study analyzes recipients’ perceptions of transparency strategies journalists use when integrating UGC. Most of the respondents rarely perceive transparency about source origin or verification in their everyday media use. Even when noticed, transparency efforts barely seem to increase journalistic trustworthiness.

Purpose User-generated content (UGC), e.g. YouTube videos on social media, is all around us. These UGCs are primarily demonstrational and/or informational in their execution format. However, viewers could easily misclassify the UGCs and that may be detrimental to the focal product in the UGC. This study aims to investigate this phenomenon. Design/methodology/approach The study uses an online survey (N = 459). The respondents were randomly exposed to one of the two UGCs – informational or demonstrational – and then responded to questions measuring their attribution and their purchase intention towards the focal product in the UGC. Findings Results indicate that about 20% of the respondents misclassified the type of UGC. Further, UGC characteristics such as vicarious experience, transparency and connectedness significantly enhance purchase intention, especially for demonstrational videos; demonstrational UGC, when correctly perceived yield the most favorable results; and misclassification does suppress these relationships. Research limitations/implications This study contributes to the theory and practice by linking the viewer evaluation of UGC on various evaluative dimensions (i.e. vicarious experience, connectedness, transparency and perceived risk), purchase intention towards the focal product in the UGC and correct or incorrect classification of the UGC format (demonstrational or informational). This study adds to the knowledge base about UGC by highlighting some of the pitfalls when viewers misclassify the UGC format and emphasizes the importance of a match between the content of the UGC and the perceptions and expectations associated with the medium on which it is uploaded. Like any other research, this study too has its limitations. It has only looked at a few possible variables that would predict the purchase intention in the context of the complex and rich phenomenon of UGC. Future studies should look at other sources of misclassification. Practical implications Given the ubiquitous nature of social media and their role in consumer decision-making, the findings of this study have serious practical implications. The results of the study highlight steps to be taken by both creators and marketers to improve effectiveness of UGCs. Social implications While this study does not focus on the social aspects of UGCs, it is not difficult to imagine the phenomenon of UGC misclassification, either as a mistake or deliberately induced and its social implications. Fake news seems to be not uncommon. Originality/value Even though the impact of consumer-to-consumer information exchange and UGC on consumers’ brand attitude and purchase intention is well recognized, there is limited research on this topic. Further, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to explicitly examine the concept of misclassification and corresponding issues in the context of UGCs.

Acute upper gastrointestinal (UGI) bleeding is one of the most frequent presentations to a surgical emergency. Most of them respond to initial resuscitation, and a definite diagnosis is established as soon as possible, thereby helping the clinician in management. We present the diagnostic challenges that we faced with a 70-year-old man who presented with UGI bleed. He initially responded to resuscitation, but later deteriorated and became haemodynamically unstable. The source of the UGI bleed on evaluation was found to be pseudoaneurysm of the gastroduodenal artery (PsGDA) and treated successfully by coil embolisation. The cause of the PsGDA was diverticulum arising from the first part of duodenum with changes of diverticulitis. Diverticulum originating from the first part of the duodenum is seldom reported. Moreover, diverticulitis involving this part and causing PsGDA has not been reported so far.

Abstract The clinical syndrome of acute upper gastrointestinal graft-versus-host disease (UGI aGvHD) is historically seen in 13% of MRD transplants and in 31% of recipients developing acute GvHD (aGvHD). UGI aGvHD is classified as a Grade II manifestation in the modified consensus criteria and often treated with systemic immunosuppressive therapy. We undertook a review of the CIBMTR database to assess prognostic implications of and outcomes after UGI aGvHD both in isolation and when present with other manifestations of aGvHD. Methods: 8567 adult recipients of myeloablative allogeneic HSCTs receiving T-cell replete PBSC or bone marrow grafts from siblings, well- or partially-matched unrelated donors for AML, ALL, CML or MDS between 2000 and 2012 were analyzed. The primary outcome was survival; secondary outcomes were DFS, TRM, relapse, and cGvHD. Isolated UGI aGvHD: we performed individual pairwise comparisons between recipients with isolated UGI (iUGI) aGvHD and those with no aGvHD, Grade I, Grade II or Grades III/IV aGvHD without UGI symptoms. UGI aGvHD in Addition to Other aGvHD Manifestations: we performed pairwise comparisons between recipients with aGvHD of the same grade, with and without UGI involvement. Recipients with Grade II aGvHD were reclassified for analysis based on non-UGI manifestations. Diagnoses of UGI aGvHD did not require biopsy confirmation. Analyzed covariates included age, race, KPS score, malignancy, disease stage, time from diagnosis to transplant, graft source, HLA-matching, sex match, CMV status, GvHD prophylaxis, and year of transplant. Analyses were adjusted for effect of transplant center on outcomes. Given the number of comparisons, a p value <0.01 determined significance. Recipients without aGvHD included those experiencing early death; Kaplan-Meier and incidence curves were analyzed from time of aGvHD onset. Results: 251 centers contributed. Median age of recipients was 42 years (range, 18-72). 49% of recipients received stem cells from HLA-matched siblings, 38% from well-matched and 13% from partially-matched unrelated donors. 20% of donor/recipient pairs were female->male. 71% received PBSCs. Isolated UGI aGvHD: 229 individuals had iUGI aGvHD. MRD recipients with iUGI aGvHD had the same prognoses for OS, DFS, TRM, relapse and chronic GvHD as recipients with Grades 0, I or II aGvHD without UGI symptoms in pairwise comparisons. URD recipients with iUGI aGvHD had decreased TRM and trended towards improved OS and DFS compared to recipients with Grade II aGvHD without UGI involvement (HR 2.70, p=0.0021; HR 1.59, p=0.0166; HR 1.52, p=0.0294; Table, Figure 1). Outcomes of URD recipients with iUGI aGvHD were similar to those with Grades 0 or I aGvHD in pairwise comparisons. UGI aGvHD in Addition to Other aGvHD Manifestations: UGI involvement added no significant prognostic information to analyzed outcomes when present in addition to Grades I or II aGvHD of skin or hepatic/lower GI origin (Figure 2). If UGI symptoms were removed from grading, 229 recipients would be reclassified as No aGvHD; 196 recipients would be reclassified as Grade I. The percentage of recipients with Grades 0/I GvHD would increase from 55.7% to 60.1%. Conclusions: The presence of isolated UGI aGvHD imparted limited prognostic information after MRD or URD transplantation in terms of OS, DFS, TRM, relapse or chronic GvHD when compared to recipients without aGvHD or those with Grade I or II manifestations other than UGI. Defining isolated UGI aGvHD as a Grade II entity is not supported by this analysis. The presence of UGI aGvHD in addition to other Grade I or Grade II manifestations within a given recipient likewise had minimal prognostic impact on clinical outcomes after MRD or URD HSCT. Inclusion of UGI symptoms in the current aGvHD grading schema warrants re-evaluation in light of the results of this analysis. Figure 1. Objective: Upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGB) is one of the most important and serious cause of emergency admission in childhood. The aim of the study was to evaluate the etiological factors and the treatment approaches in patients with UGB. Methods: In this retrospective study, children with UGB admitted to emergency clinics of Istanbul Health Sciences University Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Research and Training Hospital, Istanbul Bakirkoy Sadi Konuk Research and Training Hospital and Diyarbakir Children’s Hospital were evaluated between January 2014 and August 2017. Results: Of the 198 children, 14.6% had non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) history, and 12.6% had chronic liver disease. We detected esophagitis, esophagus varices and peptic ulcer with upper gastrointestinal endoscopic evaluation (47%, 11.1%, 18.1%, respectively). Helicobacter pylori was found in 61.6% of patients. Endoscopic therapeutic procedures (band ligation therapy, sclerotherapy, and adrenaline injection) were appied in 11.1% of patients. Eighty-four (42.4%) patients were hospitalized, and erythrocyte transfusion (ET) was ordered in 29 (14.6%) patients. Conclusion: Approximately in 20% of the pediatric patients, the source of gastrointestinal bleeding is the upper gastrointestinal system. The cause of UGB varies with age. Appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic approaches are very important for management and to reduce mortality.

Background: Cholecystectomy does not offer all symptomatic relief in most of the patients because of an overlap in the symptomology of biliary and gasroduodenal pathologies. Thus, we aimed at evaluating the efficacy of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGE) in all patients with upper abdominal pain irrespective of ultrasound findings or symptoms.Methods: This prospective study was carried out from November 2015 – August 2017. Patients above 18 years, with ultrasonographically proven diagnosis of cholelithiasis, undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy by a single surgeon were studied. UGE was referred to all patients before surgery. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze pathological UGE findings and corresponding 95% confidence levels (CI) was calculated.Results: A total of 117 patients were included in this study with a mean age of 43.6±13.8 years. Majority of the patients were women (59.8%) and most of them presented atypical biliary colic symptoms (n=64, 54.7%). UGE of patients with biliary colic symptoms showed that 65.8% of patients had normal endoscopy findings when compared to 34.2% of patients had positive endoscopy findings. Significantly higher proportion patients with positive UGE findings presented atypical biliary (70%, n=28) when compared to typical biliary colic patients with positive findings (30%, n=12; p<0.05). Among patients being positive for UGE detected lesions, gastritis (~18%), followed by duodenal ulcer (10%) and reflux esophagitis (5%) were the common upper GI problems observed.Conclusions: Pre-elective and routine use of UGE before laparoscopic cholecystectomy helps in reducing persistence of symptoms and in treatment management.

Recently, research on sprawl was increasing due to its impacts on the economy, society, and environment. Several studies have focused on the application of containment strategies to curb urban sprawl. Urban growth boundaries (UGBs) were among the containment policies adopted to tackle the issue of sprawling cities. This paper set out to undertake an analysis of the factors influencing the performance of the UGB of Riyadh City. A qualitative data analysis using NVivo12 software was adopted. To collect the required data of UGB, semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine experts involved in urban management, Riyadh city development, and other planning agencies. If the application of UGB policy in the western countries has managed to restrain more or less city sprawl, its replication to the case of Riyadh seems to have had some adverse impacts. That is, instead of controlling urban sprawl, it has stimulated it. The reasons may lie in the deficiency of monitoring and evaluation of urban studies, free provision of infrastructure, and lack of coordination between different city planning agencies. Understanding the factors affecting the UGB efficiencywill assist policymakers and urban planners in reducing the spread of scattered and leapfrog residential development, lowering the cost of service supply and promoting infill development

In dentistry, the assessment of periodontal biotype is considered one of the most important parameters with which to plan treatment, and craniofacial morphology might affect it. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between facial typology and gingival biotype in patients by means of two-dimensional and three-dimensional evaluations of facial typology. This study included 121 participants searching for orthodontic treatment (43 M, 78 F; 20.4 ± 10.4). Gingival biotype was evaluated based on the transparency of the periodontal probe through the gingival margin of the mid-buccal sulcus for both upper (UGB) and lower (LGB) anterior teeth. SellionNasion^GonionGnation (SN^GoGn) and CondylionGonionMenton (CoGoMe^) angles were measured on two-dimensional cephalograms. Three-dimensional face scans were acquired by means of a three-dimensional facial scanner (3dMD system) and successively analyzed to assess the facial typology using the ratio between lower facial height (SNMe) and total facial height (NMe). A chi-squared test and regression analysis were used to evaluate the associations between gingival biotype and facial morphology (p < 0.05). The chi-squared test showed that there was no statistically significant association between facial typology and gingival biotype (UGB p = 0.83; LGB p = 0.75). The logistic regression showed an association between SNMe/NMe and the UGB (p = 0.036), and SNMe/NMe and LGB (p = 0.049). The decreased ratio of SNMe/NMe might be a protective factor for a thin gingival biotype.

Abstract. Assessment of soil quality is one of the key parameters for evaluation of environmental contamination in the mining ecosystem. To investigate the effect of coal mining on soil quality, opencast and underground mining sites were selected in the Raniganj Coafield area, India. The physical, chemical, biological parameters, heavy metals, and PAHs contents of the soils were evaluated. Soil dehydrogenase (+79%) and fluorescein (+32%) activities were significantly higher in underground mine (UGM) soil, whereas peroxidase activity (+57%) was higher in opencast mine (OCM) soil. Content of As, Be, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, and Pb was significantly higher in OCM soil, whereas, Cd was higher in UGM. In general, the PAHs contents were higher in UGM soils probably due to the natural coal burning in these sites. The observed values for the above properties were converted into a unit less score (0–1.00) and the scores were integrated into environmental soil quality index (ESQI). In the unscreened index (ESQI-1) all the soil parameters were included and the results showed that the quality of the soil was better for UGM (0.539) than the OCM (0.511) soils. Principal component analysis was employed to derive ESQI-2 and accordingly, total PAHs, loss on ignition, bulk density, Be, Co, Cr, Ni, Pb, and microbial quotient (respiration: microbial biomass ratio) were found to be the most critical properties. The ESQI-2 was also higher for soils near UGM (+10.1%). The proposed ESQI may be employed to monitor soil quality changes due to anthropogenic interventions.

The proposed reactions have been coupled of four classes of compounds including 3-phenoxybenzaldehyde, various aromatic amines, TMS-N3 and tertiary butylisocyanide, which is known as Ugi-azide four-component reactions (UA-4CRs). It generated a diverse class of 1,5-disubstituted tetrazoles which are an important drug-like scaffold known for their ability to mimic the carcinogenic conformers used in medicinal chemistry. This work presents a concise, novel, general strategy to access a surplus of new heterocyclic scaffolds through the Ugi-azide reaction. Frequency in anticancer drug design can be partly attributed to their being extremely common in nature and there are multiple metabolic pathways and cellular processes within cancer pathology that can be susceptible to heterocycles-based drugs. The anticancer screening of derived molecules were carried out using one dose response study using NCI-60 cell-lines and found most active in breast cancer cell-lines

Abstract Acute and Chronic GVHD are major complications of alloHSCT. GI GVHD can be difficult to diagnose especially early in its course or if involving the small intestine (SI). WCE is a new, noninvasive technology that allows for complete SI evaluation. The capsule transit can be measured and location tracked to determine GI hyper- or hypomotility states. We describe WCE in the diagnosis and management of GI disorders following alloHSCT. From 8/06 to 07/07, 11 alloHSCT pts with GI symptoms underwent WCE to assist in diagnosis, assess therapy response or to evaluate other GI pathology in pts with established GI acute or chronic GVHD. Pt symptoms included nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and hematochezia. Concomitant studies included stool bacterial, fungal and viral cultures and C. difficile toxin assay, as well as EBV and CMV testing. Upper GI (esophagus, stomach and duodenum) and Lower GI (colon and terminal ileum) endoscopy (UGE, LGE) were performed and biopsies taken when clinically indicated. Each capsule records for 8 hours. Visual grading of the GI track was determined on a 5 point scale and labeled as Endoscopic GI Grading (EGG) (Neumann et al GI Endoscopy2007): Grade 0, normal; Grade 1, loss of vascular marking and/or mild focal erythema; Grade 2, moderate edema and/or erythema; Grade 3, edema, erythema, erosions and/or bleeding; Grade 4, ulceration, exudates and bleeding. Pts underwent WCE at a median day 77 post HSCT (range 18–593) (See Table 1). Five pts had significant gastroparesis (gastric capsule passage ≥ 2 hours), 2 of whom (pts 1, 6) had capsule stomach retention for > 8 hours. The capsule was placed in the duodenum by EGD in pt 1 with capsule passage. The cecum was not visualized in 3 pts (pts 4, 10, 11) due to delayed SI transit. WCE findings usually correlated with UGE/LGE findings but SI lesions visualized by WCE were more severe than those seen on UGE/LGE (pts 1, 5, 8, 9, 11). Repeat WCE in pt 11 demonstrated resolving lesions confirming therapy efficacy. No pt had side effects attributable to WCE and the capsule was recovered in all pts. WCE is a useful tool to diagnose and assess GI acute and chronic GVHD especially involving the SI. It is well tolerated and less invasive than UGE/LGE, making serial examinations feasible. The demonstration of delayed gastric emptying led to the use of upper GI motility agents (metoclopramide) for therapy. GI GVHD has been considered a hypermotility disorder. This study demonstrates that colonic hypermotility can occur with gastric hypomotility and that symptomatic therapy must be specific for upper and lower GI tract pathology. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between electronic journal downloads and citations and whether online electronic resource usage can be adopted as an alternative to citation for evaluation of scholarly discourse. Design/methodology/approach A consolidated 16 publishers’ COUNTER usage data of UGC-Infonet members was collected from INFLIBNET Centre. The usage was meticulously filtered from UGC-subscribed journals and institutional subscriptions. The quantitative data were analysed to establish the relationship between download, impact factor (IF) and price. Multiple regression analysis was used to assess the influence of price and IF on usage and to predict the usage when they are known and the threshold for significance was set at p < 0.05. Findings There exists a relationship between IF and downloads of journals in UGC-Infonet. Journal IF and price significantly influence usage, where journal IF plays an important role in the intensity of the use. Also, the top 25 hottest downloaded papers were journals with IF; hence, no journal without IF featured in the top 25 most downloaded journals in the consortia. The relationship between the top 25 IF journals in the consortia and download is strong (r = 0.368537). Originality/value The only account that reports on the relationship between journal IFs and downloads for UGC-Infonet consortia. Also, the influence of usage behaviour with respect to citation and price of a journal.

While few research studies have explored real content generated by hotel guests in social media, business analytics techniques are still not widely seen in the literature and how such techniques can be deployed to benefit hoteliers has not been fully explored. Thus, this study aims to explore the significant factors that affect hotel guest satisfaction via UGC and business analytics and also to showcase the use of business analytics tools for both the hospitality industry and the academic world. Design/methodology/approach This study uses big data and business analytics techniques. Big data and business analytics enable hoteliers to develop effective and efficient strategies improving products and services for guest satisfaction. Therefore, this study analyzes 200,431 hotel reviews on Tripadvisor.com through business analytics to explore and assess the significant factors affecting guest satisfaction. Findings The findings show that service, room and value evaluations are the top-three factors affecting overall guests’ satisfaction. While brand type and negative emotions are negatively associated with guests’ satisfaction, all other factors considered were positively associated with guests’ satisfaction. Originality/value The current study serves as a great starting point to further explore the relationship between specific evaluation factors and guests’ overall satisfaction by analyzing user-generated online reviews through business analytics so as to assist hoteliers to resolve performance-related problems by analyzing service gaps that exist in these influential factors.

BackgroundThe relationship between delayed gastric emptying and upper GI symptoms (UGI Sx) is controversial.ObjectiveTo assess association between gastric emptying and UGI Sx, independent of treatment.DesignWe performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature from 2007 to 2017, review of references and additional papers identified by content expert. We included studies evaluating the association between gastric emptying and nausea, vomiting, early satiety/postprandial fullness, abdominal pain and bloating. Covariate analyses included optimal gastric emptying test method, gastric emptying type (breath test or scintigraphy) and patient category. Meta-regression compared the differences based on type of gastric emptying tests.ResultsSystematic review included 92 gastric emptying studies (26 breath test, 62 scintigraphy, 1 ultrasound and 3 wireless motility capsule); 25 of these studies provided quantitative data for meta-analysis (15 scintigraphy studies enrolling 4056 participants and 10 breath test studies enrolling 2231 participants). Meta-regression demonstrated a significant difference between optimal and suboptimal gastric emptying test methods when comparing delayed gastric emptying with nausea and vomiting. On evaluating studies using optimal gastric emptying test methodology, there were significant associations between gastric emptying and nausea (OR 1.6, 95% CI 1.4 to 1.8), vomiting (OR 2.0, 95% CI 1.6 to 2.7), abdominal pain (OR 1.5, 95% CI 1.0 to 2.2) and early satiety/fullness (OR 1.8, 95% CI 1.2 to 2.6) for patients with UGI Sx; gastric emptying and early satiety/fullness in patients with diabetes; gastric emptying and nausea in patients with gastroparesis.ConclusionsThe systematic review and meta-analysis supports an association between optimally measured delayed gastric emptying and UGI Sx.

Trichoderma spp. is a fungus widely used to control soil-borne pathogens, such as Rhizoctonia solani which is plant pathogenic fungi in widely host range, especially on rice. This research aimed to evaluate the ability of Trichoderma asperellum isolate UGM-LHAF against R. solani causing sheath blight disease of rice in vitro condition. Trichoderma sp. used in this research was obtained from The Biological Laboratory of Pakem, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and Rhizoctonia sp. was obtained through isolation of diseased rice obtained from rice fields in Yogyakarta. The two isolates were characterized base on morphology and molecular identification based on ITS rDNA. The pathogenicity test of Rhizoctonia sp. was evaluated by adding four sclerotia of Rhizoctonia sp. near rice roots at 6 days after sowing. The in vitro test used dual culture and antifungal activity (0%, 10%, 25%, 50% culture filtrate of Trichoderma sp.) with three replicates of each treatment. Two isolates were identified as T. asperellum and R. solani. Sheath blight symptoms appeared after 12 days inoculation. In the in vitro test, T. asperellum isolate UGM-LHAF was able to inhibit the mycelial growth of R. solani (64.23% on dual culture and 68.5% on antifungal activity). This study suggests that T. asperellum isolate UGM-LHAF able to inhibit the growth of R. solani and can be a further potential candidate as a biocontrol agent against R. solani causing sheath blight disease of rice.

Except the two types of state, complete failure and perfect functioning, some intermediate states also existed between those two states. This characteristic enables multistate system (MSS) whose components are often of more than two states. Moreover, because of dependence between components, common cause failure (CCF) enhances the failure risk of components during the operating period of MSS. A protection mechanism needs to be adopted because of the importance of certain components. For a MSS with CCF and protection mechanism, its reliability can be evaluated by a proposed approach. Certain components not only can cause failure at one state, but also can cause failure to other components because of the CCF. Under the impact of one type of CCF, those components can constitute a specific group that can overlap with certain components. Universal generating function (UGF) is adopted to incorporate the CCF and protection mechanism of a component. Consequently, reliability indices of a MSS can be evaluated by the proposed approach based on UGF. Examples and comparisons illustrate and validate this method. This method can also help engineers prioritize elements that require protection mechanism under various resource limitations.

From the stages of the location and access stage, it is very good with 3.38. From the stages of the use of information, quite well with the value of 2.88. From the synthesis stage, it is quite good with a value of 3.21. From the evaluation stage, it is good with 3.20. Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) is the most common GI emergency observed with mortality of 6-10% overall. The authors aimed to assess the pharmacotherapy of upper gastrointestinal bleeding along with its drug utility and their performance. A total of 120 patients were enrolled meeting the criteria and observed that the main cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding was found to be esophageal varices followed by duodenal ulcers.The major contributing factor for UGI bleed was alcohol and smoking. The study revealed that males are predominantly being affected with UGI bleed; probable reasons may be habitual behaviour of the patients. Majority of the population who are affected were associated with comorbidities like hypertension, cirrhosis, jaundice, hepatitis, ulcers and diabetes mellitus. Portal hypertension was the major complication seen among the study population, followed by Jaundice and Ascites.The most common cause of portal hypertension is cirrhosis of liver. As an initial evaluation modality of all our UGI bleed patients were done with UGI endoscopy for both therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. The most commonly prescribed drugs were anti-secretory agents [pantoprazole], mucosal protectants [sucralfate], vasoactive agents [terlipressin], antibiotics [rifampicin, ceftriaxone, metronidazole]. It is observed in the study with high dose of alcohol consumption results into serious complications and increasing mortality and morbidity. In the modern era of medical management, it would be better to deal with rational drug prescription in association with clinical pharmacologist suggestions during medical rounds by clinician.

Abstract. Assessment of soil quality is one of the key parameters for evaluation of environmental contamination in the mining ecosystem. To investigate the effect of coal mining on soil quality, opencast and underground mining sites were selected in the Raniganj coalfield area, India. The physical, chemical, and biological parameters of the soils, and trace metals and PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) in the soils were evaluated. Soil dehydrogenase (+79 %) and fluorescein (+32 %) activities were significantly higher in underground mine (UGM) soil, whereas peroxidase activity (+57 %) was higher in opencast mine (OCM) soil. Content of As, Be, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, and Pb was significantly higher in OCM soil, whereas Cd was higher in UGM. In general, the PAHs contents were higher in UGM soils, probably due to the natural coal burning at these sites. The observed values for the above properties were converted into a unitless score (0–1.00) and the scores were integrated into an environmental soil quality index (ESQI). In the unscreened index (ESQI-1) all the soil parameters were included and the results showed that the quality of the soil was better for UGM (0.539) than the OCM (0.511) soils. Principal component analysis was employed to derive ESQI-2 and accordingly, total PAHs, loss on ignition, bulk density, Be, Co, Cr, Ni, Pb, and microbial quotient (respiration: microbial biomass ratio) were found to be the most critical properties. The ESQI-2 was also higher for soils near UGM (+10.1 %). The observed indicators and the ESQI results revealed that soil quality assessment for these coal mining soils is largely depended on soil PAHs and potentially toxic trace metals. The proposed ESQI may be further refined by incorporating specific parameters related to human exposure risks and exposure pathways.

Present study was done to evaluate Learning memory effect of Unmad Gaja Kesari Rasa II a herbo-mineral compound. Cook’s and widely model was used to evaluate learning memory activity. Total 30 wistar rats were classified into 5 groups each containing 6 rats. Human dose was extrapolated with extrapolating factor 0.018 and drug dose was given to control I and II, standard, test x and 2x group, after that learning and Relearning trails were given and avoidance, escape and no response was observed. It has been established that UGK II (Rasa Kamdhenu i.e.; R.K Unmad Chikitsa/9-12) has effective role in learning and memory activity.

The optimal use of libraries is through user education, because through this program users get a series of knowledge about information sources. One way to find out the success of a program is to do an assessment. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of user education that has been implemented in the Library of the Faculty of Engineering UGM. CIPP Model (Context, Input, Process & Product) used for evalution with a qualitative approach. Research subjects were members of the UGM Faculty of Engineering who had attended user education programs and library management team. Data collection is done with documentation, interviews, and observations. The results showed (1) the Context evaluation was good, there was a match between the program with the vision and mission of the institution, (2) Evaluation of inputs was good, supporting facilities and facilities were adequate, (3) Process evaluation was sufficient, the implementation schedule needed to be improved, ( 4) Evaluation of the product is good, there is a certificate as a sign of following the activity by achieving the competency that has been set. The factors that support the implementation of the program are competency of human resources, communication, adequate facilities and infrastructure, and good cooperation with stakeholders. The factors that hinder the program are the schedule of activities that are not yet routine, those responsible for the program cannot be delegated to other people, there is no analysis of student needs, and there is no written policy on this program. The recommendation of this research is that it is necessary to improve several inhibiting factors so that the implementation of user education activities can run smoothly in accordance with the stated goals.

The accurate and effective reliability prediction of light emitting diode (LED) drivers has emerged as a key issue in LED applications. However, previous studies have mainly focused on the reliability of electrolytic capacitors or other single components while ignoring circuit topology. In this study, universal generating function (UGF) and physics of failure (PoF) are integrated to predict the reliability of LED drivers. Utilizing PoF, lifetime data for each component are obtained. A system reliability model with multi-phase is established, and system reliability can be predicted using UGF. Illustrated by a two-channel LED driver, the beneficial effects of capacitors and MOSFETs for the reliability of LED drivers is verified. This study (i) provides a universal numerical approach to predict the lifetime of LED drivers considering circuit topology, (ii) enhances the modelling and reliability evaluation of circuits, and (iii) bridges the gap between component and circuit system levels.

Contemporary evaluations of urban growth management (UGM) strategies often take the shape of quantitative measurements of land values and housing prices. In this paper, we argue that it is of key importance that these evaluations also analyse the policy formulation and implementation phases of growth management strategies. It is in these phases that the institutions and discourses are (trans)formed in which UGM strategies are embedded. This will enable us to better understand the conditions for growth management policies’ success or failure. We illustrate this point empirically with the case of demarcating urban areas in the region of Flanders, Belgium. Using the Policy Arrangement Approach, the institutional dynamics and discursive meanings in this growth instrument’s formulation and implementation phase are unravelled. More specifically, we explain how the Flemish strategic spatial planning vision of restraining sprawl was transformed into one of accommodating growth in the demarcation of the Antwerp Metropolitan Area, epitomised by two different meanings of the phrase “safeguarding the future.” In conclusion, we argue that, in Antwerp, the demarcation never solidified into a stable policy arrangement, rendering it largely ineffective. We end by formulating three recommendations to contribute to future attempts at managing urban growth in Flanders.

The short and chemoselective reaction sequence allows generating diverse (pseudo) dimeric peptoids. A combinatorial version allows the one-pot preparation of, e.g., six-compound-libraries of homo- and heterodimers verified by ESI-MS and HPLC. In a preliminary evaluation, some compounds display moderate activity against the Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis.

Facing the need to control urban sprawl, many Chinese cities are exploring the use of development-limiting boundaries, such as urban growth boundary (UGB) and urban development boundary (UDB), as required by the central government. Through a key word search of several databases including Web of Science and China National Knowledge Infrastructure, we identified and reviewed hundreds of articles published in academic or professional journals. Our review shows that policy processes discussed in the literature have emphasized the technical aspect with analytical sophistication. We identified three types of approach to UGB and UDB in the literature: the growth-driven, the constraint-oriented, and the hybrid. While urban theories and modeling techniques that originated from Western countries have greatly influenced the analytical process underlying some of these approaches, the UGB/UDB policy debate and explorations were also responsive to China’s unique urban and policy conditions. Despite the rich empirical content in the literature, very little research has been grounded in a scientific understanding of China’s urban development. Issues such as intergovernmental coordination, policy enforcement, and evaluation were also inadequately addressed in the existing literature. The literature’s newness may have been a major factor for these limitations. Our critique of the current literature may inspire new areas of research to generate knowledge that can inform China’s continuous policy efforts to combat urban sprawl.

Background: Cholelithiasis is the most common disease state involving the gallbladder and the biliary tree. Once the USG is reported as cholelithiasis, the patient is usually taken up for cholecystectomy. The patients with cholelithiasis usually present with upper gastro intestinal (UGI) symptoms which may also be attributed to other UGI pathologies. This study focuses on evaluating upper GI endoscopy as an investigative modality to diagnose other associated upper GI pathologies in patients with USG proven gallstones presenting with dyspeptic symptoms.Methods: An observational study was undertaken over a span of 2 years, from June 2016 to May 2018. All the patients who presented with complaints of upper GI symptoms were subjected to undergo USG abdomen. The patients with positive USG findings for cholelithiasis were included and further evaluated by upper GI endoscopy.Results: Out of 100 subjects evaluated during the study period, 58 were females and 42 males. The most common presenting symptom was heartburn (69%), followed by dyspepsia (58%), belching (56%) and nausea/vomiting (53%). Out of 100 patients 44 patients presented with biliary colic and nausea/vomiting (14%). 44 of the subjects were found to have normal mucosal study. Remaining 66% of the subjects had positive endoscopic findings. The most common endoscopic finding was gastro-esophageal-reflux-disease (GERD) (31%).Conclusions: In this study it was found that 66% of the subjects had co-existing UGI pathologies. It is advisable to get UGI endoscopy routinely for patients being planned for cholecystectomy pre-operatively.
