Kata ukhuwah sering digandengkan dengan kata islamiyah, sehingga memunculkan istilah ukhuwah islamiyah. Masyarakat muslim mengenal istilah Ukhuwah Islamiyyah. Selama ini ada kesan bahwa istilah tersebut bermakna “persaudaraan yang dijalin oleh sesama Muslim”, atau dengan kata lain, “persaudaraan antar sesama Muslim”, sehingga kata “Islamiyyah” dijadikan pelaku ukhuwah itu.
