Abstract:
Fungal communities in the rhizoplane (RP) and rhizosphere (RS) of geographically isolated C. takesimana habitats in different environments such as oceanic (Seodo, the Dokdo Islands), coastline (Sadong, Ulleungdo Island), and inland (Taeha, Ulleungdo Island) regions were analyzed by MiSeq sequencing. In total, 1279 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were obtained and they were further classified into 185 genera belonging to five phyla. The total number of fungal taxa in the RP samples was lower than those in the RS samples in all the sampled locations, providing an indication of the existence o

Abstract:
Ulleungdo harbours a unique ecosystem owing to its isolation from the mainland alongside its maritime climate. The island, formed via volcanic activity, is the largest island in the East Sea of Korea and retains a primeval forest. The ecosystems are being destroyed owing to increasing human activity on the island. Therefore, through the investigation of the insect fauna of Ulleungdo, we tried to provide information that can be the basis for understanding the island ecology of Ulleungdo. This survey was conducted four times between April and October in 2020 at Seonginbong. The findings of the su

In Ulleungdo Island, it can be confirmed that there was an umbrella soup in ancient times through the article on the conquest of Isabu in 512. However, there is no archaeological evidence yet to prove Usanguk. Archaeological data identified in the earliest period of Ulleungdo Island are tombs.
We organized the current status of tombs mainly with Hoenghyeol-style stone chamber as the main body of burial, and approached why such tombs emerged, and what was the background of Silla's conquest of Usanguk. First of all, tombs built on Ulleungdo Island can be divided into three stages, and the

Dokdo, an island toward the East Coast of South Korea, comprises 89 small islands. Dokdo is a volcanic island created by a volcanic eruption that promoted the formation of Ulleungdo (located in the East sea), which is ~87.525 km away from Dokdo. Dokdo is an important island because of geopolitics; however, because of certain investigation barriers such as weather and time constraints, the awareness of its insect fauna is less compared to that of Ulleungdo. Dokdo's insect fauna was obtained as 10 orders, 74 families, and 165 species until 2017; subsequently, from 2018 to 2019, 23 unrecorded spe

Due to the damages caused by Japan's underwater fishing industry, the fishing grounds of Jeju Island were devastated. Starting from 1895, Jeju Haenyeo (women divers) began migrating to locations such as Busan and Ulsan for fishing. During the period of Japanese colonial rule, their fishing activities extended to regions including China, Japan, and other areas. After Korea's liberation, the Haenyeo continued their fishing endeavors around Ulleungdo and Dokdo, with those fishing around Dokdo contributing to strengthening effective control over the island. It is necessary to examine the fishing p

Ulleungdo and Dokdo, located in the East Sea, are volcanic islands with high ecological value due to their unique biodiversity. Although research on the insect fauna on these two Islands has been conducted from the early 19th century to recent times, limitations exist due to several issues, including misidentifications and historical errors. This study addresses these issues by conducting a comprehensive insect survey from 2020 to 2023, re-identifying misidentified specimens and compiling references to create an updated and accurate checklist of insect species for Ulleungdo and Dokdo. The check
