Abstract:
Cyanoacrylate has been used in medicine and dentistry for many years. It has been used as a postextraction dressing and retrograde filling material in endodontic surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxic effects of Histoacryl and other two homologue ethyl cyanoacrylates, Super Bonder and Ultrabond, on cultured fibroblasts, using the Trypan blue dye exclusion assay. The cyanoacrylates were applied to round glass coverslips, which were placed in contact with NIH 3T3 cells. After 0, 6, 12 and 24 h (short-term assay; viability) and 1, 3, 5 and 7 days (long-term assay; survival), the cells were examined under phase light microscopy and counted. The data were compared by the Kruskal-Wallis test. In the short-term experiments, only the cultures of the Ultrabond group (GIV) presented significant smaller percentages of cell viability than the cultures of the other groups (GI: control; GII: Super Bonder; GIII: Histoacryl). Although the cultures of the Super Bonder group (GII) presented smaller percentages of cell viability than cultures of the other groups (GI, GIII, GIV) at the long-term assay, this group was the only experimental group presenting a continuous and progressive cell growth. Our results have shown an in vitro biocompatibility of Histoacryl and ethyl cyanoacrylate homologues. These cyanoacrylates could therefore be of importance for endodontic purposes.

Abstract:
Effective 3D stacking of DRAM devices can offer many benefits; improved performance, increased component density and greater surface area utilization. To enable the new generations of processors to reach their performance potential many manufacturers have developed more efficient interface formats that enable greater memory bandwidth. This revolution in performance driven electronic systems continues to challenge the IC packaging industry. The challenge is clear. To ensure that the memory functions are able to support the increased signal speed, product developers will need to explore more innovative 3D package assembly techniques and process refinement methodologies. The methodology selected for package assembly, however, must consider process complexity, the costs associated with each process, overall package assembly yield and, from the users perspective, end product reliability. For some applications companies have had limited success in stacking die elements directly onto an interposer substrate using wire-bond processes. High performance DRAM die, however, is especially difficult to stack. This is due to the center positioned wire-bond sites. This factor has complicated the DRAM die stacking process and because of the excessively long wire-bond interface, functional signal speed is significantly degraded. Stacking individually packaged DRAM (package-on-package) has had considerable success but the package outline dimension and package height can be excessive. In this paper the authors will introduce a very innovative and very thin 3D package developed specifically for center-bond pad DRAM die. The package assembly methodology promises to remain economical because it requires no special die level process steps and it can utilize the existing package assembly infrastructure. Additionally, data compiled during extensive performance and reliability modeling will be presented along with the results from actual physical qualification testing.

Abstract:
Abstract A gas chromatographic method was developed for the analysis of 11 triazine herbicides in natural waters. Triazine residues were extracted from water by methylene chloride and cleaned up on a 10% deactivated Florisil column, using 3% methanol in benzene as eluant. Extracts were quantitated, in 2 separate runs, on an Ultrabond 20M and a 3% OV-1 column connected to a nitrogen-phosphorus detector. These extracts could also be analyzed on a 30 m DB-1 capillary column in a single run. This method has been validated at 10, 1, and 0.1 u.g/L by using fortified distilled water and Lake Ontario water, and was also validated at 1.0 μg/L with 2 other natural water samples. Recoveries of the 11 triazines at all levels of fortification were between 87 and 108%, except simetone and simetryne were about 80% recovered in a few cases. Detection limit for all 11 triazines in this method is 0.025 μg/L.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Downsized, highly boosted, gasoline direct injection engines are becoming the preferred gasoline engine technology to ensure that increasingly stringent fuel economy and emissions legislation are met. The Ultraboost project engine is a 2.0-L in-line four-cylinder prototype engine, designed to have the same performance as a 5.0-L V8 naturally aspirated engine but with reduced fuel consumption. It is important to examine particle number emissions from such extremely highly boosted engines to ensure that they are capable of meeting current and future emissions legislation. The effect of such high boosting on particle number emissions is reported in this article for a variety of operating points and engine operating parameters. The effect of engine load, air–fuel ratio, fuel injection pressure, fuel injection timing, ignition timing, inlet air temperature, exhaust gas recirculation level, and exhaust back pressure has been investigated. It is shown that particle number emissions increase with increase in cooled, external exhaust gas recirculation and engine load, and decrease with increase in fuel injection pressure and inlet air temperature. Particle number emissions are shown to fall with increased exhaust back pressure, a key parameter for highly boosted engines. The effects of these parameters on the particle size distributions from the engine have also been evaluated. Significant changes to the particle size spectrum emitted from the engine are seen depending on the engine operating point. Operating points with a bias towards very small particle sizes were noted.

Abstract:
In recent years, owing to the improvements in technologies and the rapid changes in market demands, the life-cycle of consumer electronic products has been shortened and new products are being released constantly. With rising environmental awareness, product value, and cost are not the only factors defining consumer value; the impact of the product to the environment has become another new factor to affect consumers purchase decisions. A key concept to transform unsustainable to sustainable development is eco-efficiency, a concept that uses less energy and resource to make a product, producing less waste and pollution. However, there has been very little discussion on how beneficial these environmentally friendly products actually are to the consumer. In view of this, the present study proposes a set of methods for consumer value and ecological benefit evaluation from the perspective of consumers. A model for determining the most suitable time to make a purchase is developed with the inclusion of the time factor, and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is used to find the suggested order of purchase at different times on the model. Finally, factors such as different groups of consumers and different types of products are considered in investigating the most appropriate time to make a purchase under different circumstances. This study focused on notebook computers, which are having high variety and easily get obsolete. As for the investigation of different consumer groups, this study found that there is a relatively good product selection order of Ultrabooks for price-conscious and environmentally conscious consumer groups. Business Notebooks are the most suitable option for general consumer groups. Being able to know optimal time to purchase and to evaluate the product ecological benefit would be beneficial to both consumers and the environment nowadays.

Abstract:
The recent explosion of thin notebooks and tablets has challenged the IC packaging industry to come up with new solutions of DRAM integration onto motherboard. Beyond traditional SO-DIMMs, innovative memory solutions should perform well at high speed (1600 MT/s) with much reduced footprint and z-height, while leveraging current manufacturing infrastructure for lower cost and also enabling simpler and cheaper motherboard design. To accomplish all the goals stated above for high-performance on-board memory applications, we showed a new DIMM-in-a-Package (DIAP) technology. This 22.5×17.5×1.2mm quad-die face-down (QFD) part has four standard center bond DDR3L dies (each ×16) face-down, which are wire-bonded to the bottom layer of the 407-ball BGA package. This judiciously designed package places data nets at the peripheral and command/control/address nets in the middle of the BGA. As such, motherboard design and layout were substantially simplified to allow the use of low-cost non-HDI Type 3 board for signal integrity performance comparable to expensive HDI boards. The QFD™ ball assignment could accommodate future memory density expansion and different memory type (e.g. LPDDR3, DDR4). It also enables dual-rank operations in each channel when double-sided assembly is used. We successfully demonstrated in production build that 1GB ×64 DDR3L QFD with data rate of 1600 MT/s can be achieved on a Type 3 motherboard for the Intel Haswell mobile platform in dual-channel dual-rank operation. A balanced-T Command/Address topology between the processor and the memory was implemented in a DELL XPS 12 Ultrabook. Channel simulations including chip, package and board were performed. We also conducted cross-talk analysis up to 9 aggressors to take into account the timing impact from the dense routing inside QFD. Layout optimization techniques for best signal integrity, such as trace length matching and stub length minimization, were discussed in detail and applied to both package and motherboard design. Lastly, we also presented and discussed DIAPs currently under study with different memory bus topologies for even higher data rate up to 2400 MT/s using the same QFD technology. Our results and analysis demonstrated DIAP using wirebond-based QFD technology as a viable candidate for the compact, low-cost, high-performance on-board memory solution. We have identified several key aspects of DIAP architecture design and physical layout that are strongly impacting the SI of QFD parts at rate >1600 MT/s and that could be optimized for DDR4 operations. QFD DIAP can become an attractive low-cost, high-performance option for many OEMs and ODMs in various mobile, personal and network computing platforms.
