Waste activated sludge (WAS) is more difficult to digest than primary sludge due to rate limiting cell hydrolysis. High-power ultrasound can effectively disintegrate the bacterial cells and thus enhance the subsequent digestion. This research examines the effectiveness of ultrasound pretreatment on WAS disintegration at different specific energy inputs, ultrasonic densities and total solids (TS) contents. The results show that the cut diameter (d50) for WAS with 2% TS content declined nearly 6.5-fold at an ultrasonic density of 0.67 W/ml. For higher TS contents of 4 and 6%, higher densities of

High concentration of VFA leaded to a increase in biogas production

Microplastic (MP) particle dispersions used in many recent publications covering adsorption or toxicological studies are not characterized very well. The size distribution of polydisperse dispersions is highly dependent on the agglomeration processes and influences experimental outcomes. Therefore, pre-treatment is a prerequisite for reproducibility. In this study, manual/automated shaking and ultrasonic treatment as different mechanical dispersion techniques were applied for the dispersion of cryomilled polystyrene (PS). Particle numbers and size distribution of dispersions were analyzed by a

Purpose: This study examined the clinical significance of N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide level as a cardiac marker in Japanese hemodialysis patients. Methods: This was a multicenter cross-sectional study involving 1428 Japanese hemodialysis patients. Ultrasonic cardiography data at post-hemodialysis were obtained from 395 patients. We examined whether serum N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide levels were associated with cardiac parameters and assessed cut-off values and investigated factors associated with a reduced ratio of N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide levels pre- a

Nagari Sikucua, Kampung Dalam Subdistrict, Padang Pariaman produces nearly 800 tons of fragrant areca nut every year which is sent to Jambi to meet export needs. Areca nut contains tannins, substances that have many benefits, some of which are anti-inflammatory, corrosion inhibitors, antioxidants. This study aims to obtain tannins in areca nut extract through a kinetic maceration process with pre-treatment with ultrasonic irradiation wave. The dried areca nut was ground and sieved with various sizes of 20, 40 and 70 mesh and then extracted with ethanol as solvent. The concentration of ethanol

The paper presents X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope analyses, and durometer measurements used to investigate the structural properties and phase composition of nitride layers of type 20Kh13 mild steel. A method of nitriding by low-pressure arc discharge was applied along with the combined surface treatment including ultrasonic finishing and nitriding. It was shown that within the close-to-critical temperature range starting from 200oС, the nitride layers was formed on the surface of type 20Kh13 mild steel. The effects of ultrasonic deep rolling (UDR) on the fatigue behavior of pre-corroded 7A52 aluminum alloys were investigated. By means of X-Ray diffraction stress measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), residual stress and fractograph of 7A52 aluminum alloys with and without UDR treatment were analyzed. The results indicated that the UDR produced compressive residual stresses with depth approaching 1mm. UDR treatment can extend the fatigue life of the pre-corroded 7A52 specimens to a large extent, depending on the level of corrosion and UDR parameter. For the slightly corrode speci
