Abstract: This work deals with the ontological status of Freud's Unconscious within his proposal of mind, viewing this as an Unconscious' reflex. Our starting-point was John Searle's criticism in The rediscovery of the mind to the idea of a mental Unconscious, and Freud's analogy between consciousness and perception. In order to develop a reflection from Freud's point of view on the problems pointed out by Searle, our object of analysis are the mental topic theories such as The Project (1895), taking it also as a topic, The Interpretation of Dreams (1900) and The Ego and the Id (1923). We will also take into account other Freud's texts having relevant concepts related to the theme as well as those of psychoanalysis scholars. We understand that Freud proposes an ontological status for Unconscious with organic bases taking into account the psychic, viewing the two poles of this relationship, mind and body, as non excludent or of a non reductionist way

Full textThe aim of this paper is to present the study of the laughter in Tutam?ia, by Jo?o Guimar?es Rosa, throughtout the four forewords and ten novels selected from the author s literary work. It is based on the psychoanalytical theory of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan about the laughter (and delight in the humorous nuances) and the unconscious mind. By taking the laughter as the point of exploitation and understanding, the narration can be understood from an esthetical pattern established on the variety of orallity retained by the narrator and the cordel pamphlets (known as string literature ) and its bypassing on the classical literature and the popular literature revealing its own logical linguistic and conception apart from the official one. It is taken a comparative conception of life in the Fran?ois Rabelais characters and some characters from Tutam?ia having Melim-Meloso as a paradigm showing how one s life can be happy in spite of all adversities by using laughter as the antidote potion against human being s misery and pain to achieve sense of freedom and pleasure

Erico Veríssimo, who wrote O tempo e o vento, interrupted the cycle of his masterpiece to write and publish Noite (1954), a novella. The work is placed in a city at night, where all the degradations become possible. Therefore, the city and the night are rather important in the novella mentioned because, through the unity of both, the pilgrimage of a man who lost his memory takes place. This study aims at investigating the functionality of the hostile place that the city at night represents compared to the undergrounds of the protagonist’s mind, which does not recognize where the city leads him to. Owing to this fact, he needs to make an internal route towards himself to get close to his own identity. To carry out this study, we rely on symbolic hermeneutics, Gilbert Durand’s theory of the imaginary, mythology and psychology. In addition, we also use texts associated to the narrative as a category and writers who discuss the city as a subject. The novella on focus can be seen as a descent into the city pictured as a hell, a path followed by the man without memory. By doing so, such man comes across an urban “fauna” which is depicted as degraded and deformed. However, there is a harmonica player dressed “in white” who, through his joyful music, brings the hope of a new day and the return of light, which are symbolic represented by the return of memory and normality. In the novella, the landscapes mirror the characters’ internal lives, and this process triggers feelings and memories in them. This process brings about the protagonist’s traumas which were repressed in his childhood and are placed in his unconscious mind. Such traumas need to be purged and overcome, so that the protagonist can achieve a new life.
