I compared the interrelationships among traits affecting interspecific variation in the growth of seedlings of 22 hardwood tree species subjected to chronic intermittent drought. Leaf traits were the most responsive to contrasting water regimes; canopy architecture, hydraulic conductivity and leaf phenology were less affected. Relative growth rate (RGR) under drought, however, was most closely related to variation in canopy duration: species in leaf longer had greater RGR. Secondarily, maintaining higher stomatal conductance (g) under drought further enhanced RGR. Higher g is associated with a

The extent to which natural selection shapes diversity within populations is a key question for population genetics. Thus, there is considerable interest in quantifying the strength of selection. In this thesis a full likelihood approach for inference about selection at a single site within an otherwise neutral fully-linked sequence of sites is developed. Integral to many of the ideas introduced in this thesis is the reversibility of the diffusion process, and some past approaches to this concept are reviewed. Moreover, it issuspected that the subjects might receive ahintfrom the plane image. Therefore, the experiment of this study adoptsboth

Abstract:
Efficient use of irrigation and nutrients are becoming increasingly important in commercial orchards in the Hawkesbury area. Proper irrigation scheduling practices can help in the better use of irrigation water and reduce environmental impacts. Field experiments were conducted during February 1999 to June 2000 to understand soil-water use, and to evaluate farmer’s irrigation practice under an alley cropping system consisting of turf and stone fruits. The study was carried out at Atlas Farm, 3.5 km from the University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury campus. The experimental site is a floodplain o
