Trojánková, Olga. "Archeozoologická analýza unětické kultury: aplikace alternativních technik." Master's thesis, 2014. http://www.nusl.cz/ntk/nusl-337630.

Abstract:
This work summarizes results of a comprehensive analyses of the archaeozoological material on the settlement in Vlíněves dating to the Unetice culture (the early Bronze Age, Central Bohemia). The total of 5325 bones and teeth has been analysed within this analysis, 903 of them was determined and used for further analyses. The taxonomic structure of the material with a clear prevalence of domestic mammals was assessed, the proportion of other groups was low (7 species of wild animals). The application of stable isotopes and dental microwear analyses of faunal assemblage, first used in Bohemia in the context of the Bronze Age period, has specified the nature of a dietary base livestock as grassland habitats, and has ruled out a significant ratio of C4 plants and an application of forest pasture. The combined use of domestic animals with an increase emphasis on so-called secondary products (milk and wool) prove a bimodality in kill-off patterns of sheep and goats, height at withers of sheep, which corresponds to the breeds of sheep extended during the bronze age period and to the high mortality profile of cattle. The proposed results of our work are important in this context because they suggest these facts for the early Bronze Age already. In accordance with circumstances at other sits of Unetice...

Abstract:
Theses is focused on analysis of early bronze age burial sites excavated during the rescue excavation caused by highway construction around the town of Kolín. Two burial sites in a range of 70 and 13 burials were examined. Information from both of these burial sites were analyzed on the basis of fieldwork research from years 2008-2009. The larger burial site was ascribed to late Únětice Culture by material finds, the smaller burial site was recognized as early Únětice Culture. Burial rite had a same standard characteristic as in other Únětice regions. Local differences in burial rite dwelled in a specific finds, which are not common in an eastern part of Middle Bohemia (amber, animal blade bone). Secondary burial disturbances was traced in all kind of burials of men, women and children. The reason why was secondary burial disturbance not connected to only one group of burials, but to all of them is not clear. Types of ceramic shapes support connection with Moravian region. Thanks to new knowledge about Únětice culture in the eastern part of Middle Bohemia, we can observe, that settlement concentration was in late Únětice culture same as in other Únětice regions. Key words: early bronze age, Únětice Culture, burial sites, burial rite, Kolín region, burial disturbance

Abstract:
An increase in the diversity of Early Bronze Age (EBA) burial practices is well documented in central and southern Moravia between 2200-1500 BC. Apart from scarce cremations and pithoi burials, two more frequent parallel burial types appear. One is the standard burials in cemeteries, the other burials in settlement pits, the latter considered a deviation until recently. Thanks to recent excavations and new quantification procedures, however, abundance of settlement burials as well as uniformity and predictability of body deposition and grave equipment in pit burials has been shown. My intention is to show the existence of two parallel burial rites on the basis of bioarchaeological and archaeological evidence. I focus on the reconstruction of health and social status of individuals buried in settlement pits and graves. I observe the amount of demographic variability, diseases and trauma within each group. I suppose the distribution of diseases according to age, sex and archaeological record will be similar within each of the groups. As a result, we may speak about two equivalent burial practices. If deviations are encountered within settlement pits, however, we should speak about deviations or burials determined for a minority and homogeneous segment of population. Skeletons originate in two...
