The main purpose of this doctoral thesis is to analyze the situation of the Chinese language teaching and learning in Spain, specifically in Barcelona, with all its complexity, and to propose the introduction of specialized vocabulary from the first levels of language teaching, as a response to the new needs of the students. This is a research born from the practical experience in teaching Chinese in Barcelona at various institutions. In the first place, we construct an adequate theoretical framework that links the didactics and the study of the lexicon, specifically, the specialized lexicon based on the ecological model of human development and the ecolinguistics. Secondly, we have established a series of different methodological strategies for the studies: surveys for the analysis of needs; bibliographic reviews for the analysis of teaching systems; case studies for the analysis of the use of the lexical units, and lexical analysis for the description of the formation of lexical units in Chinese. Finally, we have proposed some principals, criteria for the selection and introduction of specialized lexical units in the class.

Full textThis thesis aims at identifying and analyzing eventive phraseological units from Brazilian Army as well as describing its syntactic-semantic properties. The examined linguistic constructions are comprised of simple or complex terms and a verb or deverbal noun and belong to regulations for both the Brazilian Army and Brazilian Armed Forces. It should be noted that these constructions were searched with the software AntConc and they were identified according to the Communicative Theory of Terminology principles, Cabré (1999), which is based on the communicative and linguistic perspective to analyze and organize the items of a specialized speech. For the syntactic-semantic description of our object, we used the lexical functions Mel’čuk, proposed to describe linguistics combinatorial. During the analysis, we concluded that the verbs, deverbal nouns, and terms are fundamental in creating and transmitting military knowledge, which confirms the need to revise the way eventive phraseological units are used in the production of such area materials, such as dictionaries and glossaries. Furthermore, we proved that the standard and complex lexical functions are not sufficient for describing specialized phraseologies, being necessary to use mixed functions, which consist in small definitions. The current research provides contributions for the Lexical Studies since it analyzes and describes the syntactic and semantic aspects of the eventive phraseological units, which are considered to be complex lexical units. Besides, this research provides support for Terminology studies because it refers to combinations that belong to a specialized language: the one from Brazilian Army.

Full textBased on Contrastive Linguistics, this work aims at showing in detail how, in the Grammar Manual I, there are sentences that convey ideological and political contents typical of the governmental system in Cuba, legitimated by the pedagogical discourse inside the school, like the Cuban State Ideological Apparatus. We will contrast lexical units which, from our point of view, presented other meanings in relation to their equivalents in the standard variety of the Spanish language, in order to verify the degree of similarity and difference between them. Although the vocabulary or word combinations we analyzed belonged to the Spanish language, we believed that they were not totally transparent to other speakers of the language who had not been through the same process(es) as the users of the Cuban variety or had not had access to certain information. Having this hypothesis as reference, we proposed the following questions: 1) to what extent specific vocabulary or word combinations of the Spanish variety spoken in Cuba were transparent for native speakers and Spanish learners who do not use or do not know the Cuban variety? 2) what could be done in order to enable better understanding of the meaning of messages that specific utterances and terms used in the Cuban Spanish variety bear in them, which were connected with ideological values of the Cuban governmental system? 3) to what extent the communist ideas coming from Marxism and adapted to the Cuban reality appeared in the sentences of the Grammar Manual selected as material for analysis? This work intends to be a source of consultation for researchers in the lexical area, as well as an aid for teachers of Spanish as a foreign language, when they need to present to their learners the different Spanish varieties. Besides, it intends to design a consultation material for those interested in knowing the socio-cultural and political peculiarities of Cuba.

The main objective is contrasting study of the lexicon of three constitutional texts of the history of Spain: the liberal Constitution of 1812, the Republican Constitution of 1931 and the current Constitution of 1978. Research is organised around two theoretical-methodological axes: the lexicometric analysis of the three constitutional texts and the semantic analysis of the lexical units to observe the diachronic change they may suffer. The textual description of the Constitutions are also included, their consideration as a specific genre within the legal discourse, and the correlation of lexicometric data with legal and historical studies. We are interested in the evolution, the variation, the appearance, the disappearance or the modification of the meaning of a thematic selection of frequent lexical units of the constitutional texts. It is therefore a quantitative and qualitative study, diachronic and comparative; a combination of variables that make it particularly innovative in the lexicometric field.

Full textThis dissertation has two main objectives: (a) to do a study about the variation in complex terminological unities (CTUs) of the Law lexicon, and (b) to analyze to what extent the terminographic register of these lexical units in two electronic juridical vocabularies is in conformity with the contexts of use of those units, in this case, different judgments of the Court of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (TJRS). The study has, among its theoretical assumptions, the postulates of socioterminology and variation theory, developed by Faulstich (2001), which seek to analyze the diversity of terminological uses and discourses. This paper thus falls under the terminology and terminography fields and, because of its analytical and reflective character, the metaterminography field.

The lexical unities analysis was initiated with the reading of texts from media, from where the nominal unities (nouns and adjectives) were picked out, considering the context in which they were inserted. These unities were analyzed according to the meaning relation that they keep among themselves (synonymy, polysemy, homonymy, hyponymy). The meaning relations and the identification of significant traces in the context show intentionality in the option of one word in detriment of possible others, at the enunciation moment.

The main aim of this work is investigate Portuguese phonological units in contact with the Guajajára (Tupi-Guarani), native language of the Cachoeira village indigenous community, with the purpose of contributing to the description of the phraseological units that are spoken in Portuguese by non-native speakers Native speakers of that language. In addition to this general objective, in our research we present other more specific ones: a) To initiate the constitution of a database of Portuguese spoken as a second language; B) Identify phraseological units in Portuguese in the guajajára language; C) To carry out a survey, in phraseological dictionaries and in works on Portuguese speaking words, with the purpose of verifying the dictionalization of the phraseological units collected in the indigenous speech; D) To contribute to the cultural preservation and documentation of the use of Portuguese phraseological units, in the speaking of the guajajáras. To do so, we perform three stages of field research. The research site was the city of Barra do Corda (MA), in the Cana Brava indigenous land, with Indians living in the village Cachoeira. Data were collected locally, through the collection of personal oral narratives, obtained from a sample of 10 informants. The work is justified by the lack of scientific research on Portuguese phraseological units in contact with the indigenous language and the importance of investigating the phraseologies present in the lexicon of Portuguese as a second language. We call ourselves a theoretical-methodological support in Labov (2008); Tarallo (2001) and Calvet (2002); Biderman (2001); Vilela (1979); Rodrigues (1986); Montoro del Arco (2006), Corpas Pastor (1996) and Salah Mejri (2012). With the realization of the research, we believe that we have achieved the objectives we have proposed and will contribute to the description of Portuguese spoken in indigenous areas.

This dissertation studies the specificity of specialized lexical meanings, based on an analysis of the behaviour of relational nouns; it offers an integral explanation of specialized and non-specialized semantics and a modellization of a unified lexical entry. Thus, it combines the communicative model of terminology with polysemic models of generation of lexical meaning.
This work starts by presenting a critical review of linguistic and terminological approaches to the semantic properties of scientific lexicon. Then it procedes to analize the properties of specialized lexical meaning, the factors that influence semantic generation and its mechanism, based on the behaviour of madre in text corpora. It also provides criteria for the formal recognition of specialized semantic information which can help develop different kinds of applications. Finally, the dissertation puts forward a generalization of the specialized semantics of relational nouns and a representation of a dynamic entry, which contemplates components of linguistic and extralinguistic knowledge interacting in the generation of lexical meaning.
