Abstract:
We review our recent results on dark matter from Starobinsky supergravity. In this context, a natural candidate for cold dark matter is the gravitino. On the other hand, assuming the supersymmetry broken at scales much higher than the electroweak scale, gravitinos are superheavy particles. In this case, they may be non-thermally produced during inflation, in turn originated by the scalaron field with Starobinsky’s potential. Assuming gravitinos as Lightest Supersymmetric Particles (LSSP), the non-thermal production naturally accounts for the right amount of cold dark matter. Metastability of t

We obtain three- and four-dimensional conformal field theories with less than maximal supersymmetry by using their supergravity duals. These supergravity theories are type II on AdS5×CP2, IIA on AdS4×CP3, IIB on AdS5×S5/Zk and D=11 supergravity on AdS4×S7/Zk. They are obtained from the spherically compactified ten- and 11-dimensional theories by either Hopf reduction or by winding the U(1) fiber over the base.

In this work we have constructed the most general action for a set of complex homogeneous scalar supermultiplets interacting with the scale factor in the supersymmetric FRW model. It is shown that the local conformal time supersymmetry leads to a scalar field potential defined in terms of the Kähler potential and superpotential in the same combination as in supergravity (or effective superstring) theories. This scalar field potential depends on an arbitrary parameter α which is not fixed by conformal time supersymmetry and induces the spontaneous breaking of supersymmetry in supergravity theor

We review the structure of ultraviolet divergence cancellations in supersymmetric field theories. We discuss the various nonrenormalization theorems of superspace perturbation theory, both for extended and for simple supersymmetry. These theorems and the background field method are applied to super Yang-Mills theories in four and higher dimensions, to supergravity theories and to two-dimensional supersymmetric nonlinear σ-models.

Abdus Salam was a true master of 20th Century Theoretical Physics. Not only was he a pioneer of the Standard Model (for which he shared the Nobel Prize with S. Glashow and S. Weinberg), but he also (co)authored many other outstanding contributions to the field of Fundamental Interactions and their unification. In particular, he was a major contributor to the development of supersymmetric theories, where he also coined the word “Supersymmetry” (replacing the earlier “Supergauges” drawn from String Theory). He also introduced the basic concept of “Superspace” and the notion of “Goldstone Fermion

We present a simple mechanism to eliminate cosmological constants both in supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric theories. This mechanism is based on the Hodge (Poincaré) duality between a 0-form and D-form field strengths in D-dimensional spacetime. The new key ingredient is the introduction of an extra Chern–Simons term into the D-form field strength H dual to the 0-form field strength. Our formulation can also be made consistent with supersymmetry. Typical applications to four-dimensional N = 1 supergravity and to ten-dimensional type IIA supergravity are given. Starting from the formulation of induced (1, 0) supergravity in 1 + 1 dimensions we consider the effects of perturbing the theory with relevant operators that preserve rotational, translational and supersymmetry whilst breaking scale invariance. In particular we calculate the correlation functions <Ja(x)Jb(y)> of graded SL (2R) currents Ja(x) in the presence of such perturbations from which we define central charge functions K. These functions are shown to be monotonic and are the analogue of Zamolodchikovs C-function as defined in usual conformal field theories.

Abstract:
Covariant quantization of Fermi-Bose supersymmetric gauge theories is formulated within an enlarged superspace (xµ, θα, ξm) with manifest ξ-supertranslation (=extended BRST) and Sp(2) invariance. In Wess-Zumino gauges, the correct ghost and auxiliary field structure emerges by counting arguments for the (N=1) super-Yang-Mills, conformal and Einstein supergravity cases. The super-Yang-Mills case is analyzed in detail for both supercovariant and Wess-Zumino gauge-fixing, with particular emphasis on the Sp(2) assignments of the ghost superfields.

We revisit the integration of fields in 𝒩 = 1 Supergravity with the requirement that the effective theory has a reliable two-derivative supersymmetric description. In particular, we study, in a supersymmetric manifest way, the situation where the fields that are mapped out have masses comparable to the Supersymmetry breaking scale and masses of the remaining fields. We find that as long as one stands in regions of the field configuration space where the analytic continuation to superspace of the F-flatness conditions be reliable equations of motion for the fields that are being mapped out, and

In a previous paper,10 supersymmetric p-brane solutions involving one dilatonic scalar field in maximal supergravity theories were classified. Although these solutions involve a number of participating field strengths, they are all equal and thus they carry equal electric or magnetic charges. In this paper, we generalize all these solutions to multiscalar solutions in which the charges become independent free parameters. The mass per unit p volume is equal to the sum of these Page charges. We find that for generic values of the Page charges, they preserve the same fraction of the supersymmetry

Abstract:
This thesis is concerned with the Schrödinger representation of quantum field theory. We describe techniques for solving the Schrödinger equation which supplement the standard techniques of field theory. Our aim is to develop these to the point where they can readily be used to address problems of current interest. To this end, we study realistic models such as gauge theories coupled to dynamical fermions. For maximal generality we consider particles of all physical spins, in various dimensions, and eventually, curved spacetimes. We begin by considering Gaussian fields, and proceed to a detail
