Abstract:
The portfolio has three parts: a systematic literature review, an empirical study and a set of Appendixes. Part one A systematic literature review, reviewing the empirical literature relating to staff attitudes towards patients with a personality disorder in an inpatient setting. It aims to present the current understanding of staff attitudes and the components which attribute to this. Part two An empirical paper which explores the experiences of nursing staff working in a secure personality disorder unit using qualitative methods. Nursing staff both qualified and unqualified attended semi-structured interviews with the main researcher. These interviews were analyse using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The data was analysed and the emerging themes are presented and discussed at length, drawing upon existing literature to discuss the implications. The studies methodological limitations are also discussed and potential areas requiring for future research are identified. Part three The Appendices which support the work in the first two parts and includes a reflective account of the research process.

Abstract:
This research evaluates the relationship between various individual differences constructs and performance on a past behavior interview (PBI)-one of the most popular forms of personnel selection interviews used today-within a sample of business unit leader level incumbents and applicants from organizations across the United States. Correlation analysis is conducted on the relationship between overall performance on a PBI and four work-related constructs: Experience, Motivation, Personality, and Cognitive Ability. The existing literature on PBIs and the four independent variables is critically reviewed. As limited research has been conducted on the influence of Experience and Motivation on PBI performance, this study makes unique contributions to the literature regarding impact of these two constructs. The major hypotheses stated that Experience and Motivation would yield significant, positive correlations with PBI performance while Personality and Cognitive Ability would not be significantly correlated with PBIs. Results partially supported the hypotheses-Experience, Motivation, and Personality were significantly related to overall PBI score, while Cognitive Ability was not. Implications for the findings as well as suggestions for future research are discussed.

Abstract:
Narratives give direction, purpose and meaning to people's lives and are a key component in the development of personality. In forensic psychology, violent offending is most often presented as a set of enduring dispositional traits. It is argued, however, that an analysis of narratives may also offer useful insights into what sustains offending and what might lead to change. This review examines the literature on adult offender narratives and their function within correctional cultures and society. It suggests that practitioners may wish to consider incorporating features of what an offender is trying to achieve through their narratives into existing programmes of rehabilitation to ensure future gains are sustained. The implications of this are discussed. This study investigates the personal accounts of patients in a UK Dangerous and Severe Personality Disorder (DSPD) Unit who are engaging in treatment to help them manage their violent / offending behaviour. Ten participants were interviewed and their interviews were analysed using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Four master themes surfaced: "A dog eat dog world" shows how violence became a legitimate response to early, abusive environments; "No-one really saw that side of me" explores how alterative ways of behaviour were deterred and difficult to relinquish; "Finding a voice" describes participants' experiences of change and what they see as important components of it; and 'Fears for the future' considers the difficulties that still lie ahead. As the DSPD pilot ends, how these experiences might help augment existing clinical treatment programmes are discussed.

Abstract:
This paper is a result of a study that aimed to investigate the extent to which failures in the constitution of the self can interfere with the way a child uses the resources of her own mind and verify how this may affect the child\'s relationships with herself, with others and with school demands; to establish relationships between emotional maturity and learning difficulties. Therefore, concepts regarding the constitution of the self and the workings of the mind were sought out from Winnicotts theory. Furthermore, a clinical case regarding the care of a child who had school problems was presented to exemplify the theoretical discussions undertaken by this paper. Reports of conversations conducted with the child\'s parents and two of her teachers and analysis of reports from the school she attended were added to this study. The constitution of the self was understood as a gradual process, which may or may not occur, supported by the innate propensity to integration and the good environmental adaptation. A discussion regarding the importance of the environment in sustaining the achievements from the maturation related to the integration of instinctuality, personal destructiveness, the capacity to feel guilt and to seek to make amends was developed in order to relate them to the constitution of the self and the use of the mind. It became evident that environmental failures that impair the instinctuality can induce to the generation of a pathological false self and interfere with the use of a persons intellectual functions, what may lead to learning difficulties. In this context, the impossibility of learning is related to some type of mental illness, to an emotional immaturity as a result of failures in the maturation process. In the case of the child presented in this study, as in other similar cases, learning problems are resulting from flaws in the constitution of the self. Children who are not able to integrate the instinctuality as their own may come to fear the contact with their destructive impulses and find it difficult to play spontaneously, to establish relationships with other children their own age and also to learn. The analytic work enables the beginning of the integration of personal destructiveness and set in motion the maturation process, making the child able to establish relationships in a spontaneous and personal way with the demands of life and to feel free to enjoy the experiences she goes through and learn from them

All the process with reference to the UES between 2002 and 2011 was investigated, since the project to its institutionalization. More specifically, we analyzed the relation among psycho and legal forces that undertake battles in a field of struggle. For this purpose, we use documentary research, mainly the legal processes of the young admitted to the UES and administrative process, constituted by the judiciary. This administrative process monitors and encourages the creation of some treatment for young infractors with mental health demands, arising in the configuration of this experimental unit. The analysis, guided by Foucault and Castel´s works, sought to identify the possibility of producing ASPD and UES. Psycho and justice utterances were systematized by a strategy for compulsory admission a CONTINUUM ADMISSION supported by the argument of dangerousness and social defense. The psycho-legal tactics of the protective measure of psycho treatment under restraint and civil interdiction combined with compulsory psychiatric hospitalization controls the admission circuit on behalf of social protection and guaranteeing the right to health. In questioning the materialization of the UES with the detention of offending young and trial psi-law continuum, we put focus in the analysis of the psycho-legal tactics for the regulation of juvenile crime by the biopolitics and its social control strategies through the pathological path. In this analysis, we understand the control that UES operates, showing two lines of argument: the line of social danger and the line of investiment in treatment. The network of knowledge-power in the political management of juvenile crime in Brazil is updated, set up a legal-political paradigm as a solution to an apparent new demand. From the assessment of human profiles, the control strategy of the deviant operates a risk management policy of the not teachable as the prevention of recurrence of the dangerous individual. In risk management, crime is a risk not eradicable. The UES highlights power relations that dialogue with the design field as a political model, forged in the logic of exception. Understanding the ASPD as incurable and untreatable , the management of juvenile crime isolates the perilous individual through modern and efficient technologies by the argument of the social order. The way UES deals with the ASPD is linked to the model of exile for purification of the socius. UES simulates an unlikely treatment process that lasts for four years and six young individuals continue to suffer ineffective trials

Abstract:
A team of graduate students from Brigham Young University under the supervision of the main author, Dr. Henrichsen, collaborated on creating a book as well as a website, Basic Training and Resources for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (BTR-TESOL). The entire project consists of ten main sections with nearly fifty units addressing topics that novice teachers should know before teaching English to non-native speakers. The BTR-TESOL project answers the need for material for untrained novice teachers that will help them to be better prepared in a very minimalistic way to face the challenges and responsibilities that teaching of English as a second language (ESL) brings. This master's project describes the creation of two units of section three, "Fundamental Teaching Skills", titled "Developing a Successful Teaching Personality" and "Managing Classes of English Language Learners." The first unit, "Developing a Successful Teaching Personality", educates novice teachers about the importance of nine major characteristics of a good teaching personality that were compiled by the author of this unit after extensive research of teachers' and students' attitudes. Moreover, the unit explains how each characteristic contributes to the overall challenge of being a successful teacher. In the second unit, "Managing Classes of English Language Learners", novice teachers are introduced to basic classroom management issues, possible reasons behind students' behavior, and tips on how to solve common classroom management issues. Both units include a short introduction to the content, an opening scenario, a video segment related to the theme of each unit as well as reflection questions, objectives, explanatory text, and a section that directs readers to places they can go to learn more about the subject.

Abstract:
In Law, the firm is the result of a complex amalgam of legal concepts (employment contract, legal personality, collective representation of workers, etc.). The systematic ordering of these ones is needed to perceive the coherence of the legal organization of that one. Guidelines emerge. Employment contract is the meeting of two parties whose interests are antagonists. But the release of the labor force of the employee, part of his person , and the sustainability of the contract require them to cooperate. This trend is reinforced by some mechanisms non implied by the nature of the employment contract. Are shared the control of the company (which involves the collective representation of workers) and of its benefits. Employees then become nearly considered as the stockholders are. The legal structure of the firm , however, is not fixed by dogma. Competing ideologies are shaping it. Some focus on purposes. The company is alternately used as a means for employment and for the will of the enterpreneur. Others focus on methods. Lawyers and economists try to organize the firm scientifically

Abstract:
Although many theorists have speculated that chronic pain may be linked to some sort of central neuropsychological integration deficit, a review of the current literature reveals no empirical support for this theory. This study attempts to assess the severity, if any, of neuropsychological deficits in chronic pain subjects by using a neuropsychological screen developed at the University of North Texas. Also, presented are studies of correlations between the UNT Neuropsych-screen and the MMPI. the Dallas Pain Questionnaire (DPQ), the Dallas Pain Drawing CDPD), and time since injury in order to assess any possible relationships. The subjects in this study consist of 100 volunteers. Of these subjects, 74 were patients of the Spinal and Chronic Pain Center at Medical Arts Hospital in Dallas, Texas and represented the clinical population. The remaining 26 subjects were staff volunteers from the hospital . The results of the study indicate significant differences between chronic pain subjects and non-pain subjects across many areas of neuropsychological functioning, as well as other significant correlations among many of the variables. The implications of this study are elaborated upon, in the discussion section, in detail along with limitations and future research directions.

Abstract:
Since the beginning of the Modern Era, the federal formula has been advocated worldwide as the adequate institutional tool to deal with politic and social diversity. It appears as a suitable model for the constitution of a compound legal order. As a political doctrine, federalism raises the question of collective membership in rather divergent terms compared to the classical identity models. Federalism offers an open and inclusive vision of identity phenomenons and guides towards a balanced institutional framework guaranteeing the coexistence of complementary identities. From its start, the European construction derogates with the core principles of federalism, constituting nevertheless a new experience of a compound community endowed with a strong political and identity integration potential. The parallel and comprehensive analysis of the Europe phenomenon in its most remarkable historical manifestations and the ethic and moral basis of the federal system reveals a strong homology between the idea of Europe and the federative model, as well as the rigidities of contemporary forma mentis restraining the process for the constitution of an actual European federal order

Abstract:
Territorial titles and statuses occupy a central place in international law because of the territoriality of this legal order. The emergence of the Middle East States presents historical and legal specificities which are largely the sources of current territorial problems. Indeed, in the region under study, the application of Protectorate and Mandate regimes had a significant impact on the States territorial titles. Under these territorial regimes, unlike outright colonization, a separate international personality remained, in principle, for the entity under domination. Such an intermediate situation has often led to questions about the applicable rules of international law. The study considers precisely this issue: what effects have had the regimes of Protectorate and Mandate on the establishment or modification of territorial titles? The objective of thestudy is to contribute to highlight the origin of territorial titles in the Middle East, in order to better understand and analyze the current territorial problems in the region

Abstract:
UES constitutes a tool used to recompose the framework of the company. UES permits to consider thatseveral legally distinct entities constitute, in fact, a unique company. The recognition of an UESfacilitates the application of norms determined by the judge or the legislator, and especially normsrelated to collective representation. The evolution of its use has shaped its perimeter in a framework forthe exercise of the employees’ collective rights. However, if the UES corresponds in the search of thecompany in labor law, its regime stays at the state of "built case law" developed for useful purposes. Itleaves a feeling of unfinished. The consequences of the UES recognition cannot reach the individualworking relations. The employees remain contractually bound to their respective employers. Theobservation of a unique direction power between the legal entities doesn't permit to consider UES asbeing the unique employer of the set of the employees, nor even that its members are as much coemployers. The absence of moral personality of this type of grouping represents incontestably a limit inthe construction of its legal regime. The applicable solutions in a group of companies can also beapplicable in the UES. However, they only represent alternatives limited to the assignment of the moralpersonality. However, in the setting of the theory of the reality of the moral person, it appears that UEScould be considered like such. The recognition of the moral personality would have the effect of makingjointly responsible its members towards the employment of the employees who contribute to thedeployment of the economic activity in this perimeter

Abstract:
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Witwatersrand , in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master in the branch of Psychiatry
The aim of this report was to establish the profile of all the patients with borderline personality disorder admitted to the Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Assessment Unit at the Helen Joseph Hospital over the course of one year. A retrospective record review was conducted to investigate the prevalence, demographics, reasons for admission, treatment and length of stay of the group of patients that was selected based on discharge diagnosis and DSM-IV-TR criteria, that were admitted throughout the course of 2010. The follow-up plan upon discharge was also reviewed. Statistical data analysis revealed findings mainly in keeping with international norms. The length of stay of patients with borderline personality disorder exceeded the average length of stay of all the patients in the ward in 2010, which illustrates that these patients are above-average users of resources. Patients with borderline personality disorder were shown in the review to be extremely inconsistent with regards to scheduled follow up plans, however significantly used emergency services at the hospital. Implementation of targeted prevention and early intervention strategies, based on systematised programs such as dialectical behavioural therapy and mentalisation-based therapy, may be useful in addressing this. This report supports further research into the utilisation of services available for patients with borderline personality disorder in the wider context of both psychiatric and psychological interventions in Southern Gauteng.

Abstract:
This study is a retrospective, descriptive study that involved a review of 85 patient files from the Psychotherapy Unit (Ward 4&5) at Tara Hospital, admitted between 01st January to 31st December 2012. The Psychotherapy Unit services patients with personality disorders, together with other comorbid disorders; and provides pharmacological and psychotherapeutic management to such individuals. The study described and analysed demographics, personality traits and disorders, details of substance misuse, taking into account gender and comorbid axis 1 pathology. Options for referral to various substance use treatment facilities were considered, and presence of substance testing was also noted. The majority of patients included in the study were predominantly young, single, unemployed and female. The most common axis II diagnosis was borderline personality disorder. 81% of the individuals included in the study had a comorbid axis 1 psychiatric pathology. Seventy-three percent of the study sample had a substance use disorder, with 33.9% meeting the criteria for substance dependence. There were significant differences observed between types of substances used and frequency, especially with regard to the different personality disorders. Also there was significant gender variability observed between the different personality disorder subtypes. This study highlights the high frequency of comorbidity between individuals with personality disorders and substance use disorders, and other axis 1 pathology in general. It necessitates the need to conduct further research in this group, and consider the possibility of opening a dual diagnosis unit on site, to provide adequate treatment to such a vulnerable subgroup.
LG2018

103
The competition in the electronics technology industry in Taiwan becomes more and more intense in recent years. The news of the outgoing employees and paying poaching spread at any time. It shows apparently that the employee's autonomy have become increasing. Also, the high paying cannot remain the employee's loyalty. If a company wants to retain a talent, they must pay more attention on the job satisfaction of their internal staff. Those engineers who have professional knowledge and skills are more important. They own higher technology and it is difficult to train a professional engineer. Once an engineer decreases his job satisfaction, he will decrease his job involvement. It will hurt the enterprise itself if he resigns. Therefore, the company can enhance its human quality and core competitiveness if there are more engineers who have professional knowledge and high job satisfaction. The purposes of this study are as following. First, it explores whether there are differences of the job satisfaction among the different personal background of the power supply engineers. Second, it explores whether there are differences of the job satisfaction among the different personality traits of the power supply engineers. Third, it explores whether there are differences of the job satisfaction among the job characteristics of the power supply engineers. Fourth, it explores the job satisfaction of the power supply engineers effects on the job involvement. This study used questionnaires to the quantify research. Diebels, Kathryn Jean. "Psychological and Interpersonal Implications of Believing that Everything is One: Identity, Personality, Values, and Worldviews." Diss., 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10161/12295.

Full text
Abstract:

For thousands of years, people from a variety of philosophical, religious, spiritual, and scientific perspectives have believed in the fundamental unity of all that exists, and this belief appears to be increasingly prevalent in Western cultures. The present research was the first investigation of the psychological and interpersonal implications of believing in oneness. Self-report measures were developed to assess three distinct variants of the belief in oneness – belief in the fundamental oneness of everything, of all living things, and of humanity – and studies examined how believing in oneness is associated with people’s self-views, attitudes, personality, emotions, and behavior. Using both correlational and experimental approaches, the findings supported the hypothesis that believing in oneness is associated with feeling greater connection and concern for people, nonhuman animals, and the environment, and in being particularly concerned for people and things beyond one’s immediate circle of friends and family. The belief is also associated with experiences in which everything is perceived to be one, and with certain spiritual and esoteric beliefs. Although the three variations of belief in oneness were highly correlated and related to other constructs similarly, they showed evidence of explaining unique variance in conceptually relevant variables. Belief in the oneness of humanity, but not belief in the oneness of living things, uniquely explained variance in prosociality, empathic concern, and compassion for others. In contrast, belief in the oneness of living things, but not belief in oneness of humanity, uniquely explained variance in beliefs and concerns regarding the well-being of nonhuman animals and the environment. The belief in oneness is a meaningful existential belief that is endorsed to varying degrees by a nontrivial portion of the population and that has numerous implications for people’s personal well-being and interactions with people, animals, and the natural world.

Dissertation

Moore, Linda E. "The relationship between organizational climate, personality and performance of nursing staff and patient outcomes on long-term care units." 1997. https://scholarworks.umass.edu/dissertations/AAI9809374.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to present a different perspective from which to evaluate two patient outcomes--infection and pressure ulcer. Past research has looked at the relationship of various medical treatments and/or nursing interventions to these outcomes. This descriptive exploratory study uses a cross-sectional design to investigate the variables being studied. In this study personality type and the performance of nursing staff and the organizational climate on long term care wards is examined in relationship to patient outcomes (infection and pressure ulcer rates). A questionnaire was completed by two hundred and seventy-six nursing employees who worked on 25 long term care wards at three medical centers. The Myers Briggs Type Inventory was used to measure personality. The Ward Environment Scale was used to measure organizational climate. Of the sixteen possible personality types, four types occurred with the greatest frequency. Collectively, these four types accounted for 60% of the staff participating in this study. Of the four bipolar personality dimensions, only extroversion/introversion had a significant effect on patient outcomes. Two of the organizational climate subscales were significantly related to patient outcomes--peer cohesion and task orientation. Six organizational climate dimensions were significantly related to performance ratings. Several organizational climate dimensions were also related to personality. Surprisingly, although both personality and organization climate related to performance and patient outcomes, no significant correlations were identified between staff performance ratings and patient outcomes. This raises several questions about the relationship between staff performance and patient outcomes for future studies. This study supports the belief that organizational climate influences the work site and is a factor worthy of management's attention. Implications for nursing management and nursing are discussed, Several recommendations for future research are offered including longitudinal studies to identify the effects of organizational climate and personality on and patient outcomes over time. The use of personality types to enhance team building and communications, and reduce turnover rates among nurses is also discussed.

107
This study hopes to understand the performance of the relevant personnel of the manufacturing unit of the Armament Bureau, and establish a research structure based on three characteristics: personality traits, organizational commitment, and job performance. Firstly, the factor analysis method is used to extract the potential factors implied by the three aspects of personality traits, organizational commitment, and job performance. Relevant analysis is used to explore the relevance of the three aspects of personality traits, organizational commitment, and job performance. Further use regression analysis to explore the degree of influence of self-change personality traits and organizational commitments on job performance. The summary of the research results is summarized as follows: 1. The "personality trait" facet extracted four key factors through factor analysis. The factor load is higher than 0.5, showing good construct validity and cumulative explanatory variable of 56.2%, showing that the factor model has good explanatory power. 2. The "Organizational Commitment" facet extracted three key factors through factor analysis. The factor load is higher than 0.6, showing that the construct validity is good, and the cumulative explanatory variable is 69.9%, indicating that the factor model has good explanatory power. 3. The "work performance" facet extracted three key factors through factor analysis. The factor load is higher than 0.6, showing that the construct validity is good, and the cumulative explanatory variable is 64.7%, indicating that the factor model has a good explanatory ability. 4. From the relevant analysis results, it is known that there are significant positive correlations between the three aspects of personality characteristics, organizational commitment and job performance. 5. "Personality traits" have a significant positive impact on "work performance". 6. “Organizational Commitment” has a significant positive impact on “Work Performance”. 7. "Personality traits" and "organizational commitments" have a significant positive impact on "work performance".

Abstract:
107
In recent years, all-volunteer military has been as the principal recruitment strategy in Taiwan’s military. The basic-level military unit majorly derives its manpower from volunteers rather than conscription (or mandatory) service. Meanwhile, the success of the cultivation of military talent is always based on the quality of the voluntary manpower. However, the Ministry of National Defense is facing difficulties when manpower recruitment due to the sub-replacement fertility, higher competition from employment market and heavy workload of basic-level military unit. Undermanned circumstances appear and lead to being unable to pass the experience on daily operations and even core working technologies to the next generation. Therefore, It is urgently needed to investigate how to fulfill the requirements of excellent military combat capabilities and competitive long-term manpower. This study aims to providing an investigation on the interaction and association of military manpower’s personality and its adaptation to troop life. This study is based on 350 volunteer soldiers and has compiled "basic population data scale", "personality quality scale", by questionnaire survey and quantitative research methods— narrative statistical analysis, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's product-moment correlation analysis and regression analysis and etc, to conduct data analysis. The results of the study show that the volunteers of the national army in the Kaohsiung area are as follows: (1) The respondents have a high sense of conformity with the personality traits of the study and the adaptation of the troops. (2) The basic data of the population has a significant effect on personality traits. Impact; the basic data of the population also has a significant positive impact on the effectiveness of the force adaptation. (3) Personality traits and military adaptation have only a significant impact on their mutual effectiveness. These findings can provide a basis for policy makers at all levels of the Ministry of National Defense to increase the willingness of volunteers to stay in the camp.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis focuses on the appropriate and effective use of film and serial adaptations of topics falling into the period of communist totalitarianism in Czechoslovakia (that is between 1948 and 1989, with emphasis on the period 1948-1969). The thesis is divided into four chapters, whereas the main part, which is didactic, is described in the third and fourth chapter. The first chapter describes the basic historical context of the communist government in Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1989. Cyster, Sharon. "A comparative study of the trust audit results of three business units of a South African company." Diss., 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/1780.

Full text
Abstract:
The general objective of this research was to do a comparative study of the Trust Audit results - obtained during 2000 - of three Business Units of a South African Company in order to determine whether there are any significant differences between them regarding the ”Big Five” personality dimensions and the ”Managerial Practices” dimensions. Trust has been found to be an essential ingredient in all organisations, providing the impetus for employers to gain a better understanding of the building blocks of organisational trust and to restore eroded trust. The intensity of any trust relationship will depend on certain facilitators of trustworthiness which may facilitate or impede the flow of trust. Research studies indicate that organisations with high levels of trust will be more successful, adaptive, and innovative than organisations with low levels of trust or pervasive mistrust. Positive results were indicated for all Business Units regarding the personality aspects. The most positive ”Big Five” dimensions were conscientiousness, extraversion and agreeableness while the lowest dimension was resourcefulness. Overall results regarding managerial practices indicated that not enough information sharing took place and that this had a negative effect within the work environment. The credibility dimension, being lower than the others, indicated that better credibility of persons that are reported to, could improve trust and optimal functioning within the working environment. Team management, work support and trust relationship were viewed positively by all Business Units. One of the main conclusions of this research was that managers/leaders have a pivotal role to play in creating high-trust organisations and engendering trusting relationships.
Industrial and Organisational Psychology
M.Comm.
