A small-size gasification unit is improved through process optimization to simulate industrial United Gas Improvement Company gasification. It finds that the reaction temperature has important impacts on semicoke catalyzed methane gas mixture. The addition of water vapor can enhance the catalytic activity of reforming, which is due to the fact that addition of water vapor not only removes carbon deposit produced in the reforming and gasification reaction processes, but also participates in gasification reaction with semicoke to generate some active oxygen-containing functional groups. The active oxygen-containing functional groups provide active sites for carbon dioxide reforming of methane, promoting the reforming reaction. It also finds that the addition of different proportions of methane-rich gas can yield synthesis gas with different H2/CO ratio. The kinetics study shows that the semicoke can reduce the activation energy of the reforming reaction and promote the occurrence of the reforming reaction. The kinetics model of methane reforming under the conditions of steam gasification over semicoke is as follows:k-=5.02×103·pCH40.71·pH20.26·exp(−74200/RT).

The main directions of improvement of the gas production complex management and the role of individual factors affecting the efficiency of its activities are determined. Taking into account that the oil and gas complex is a system of enterprises and organizations for various functional purposes, united to meet the needs of consumers in provision of natural gas, on the example of improving the organizational structure and management system of NK «YUKOS», all stages of its transformation into a world–class oil company are considered. Recommendations on the use of positive experience in Ukraine are provided. It is shown what achievements of NK «YUKOS» have already been taken into account in the reform of the management system of JSC «Ukrgasvydobuvannya», – in particular, today it is conditionally represented by three large sectors: upstream, midstream and downstream. The upstream sector includes the search for potential underground or underwater natural gas fields, drilling of exploration wells, drilling and operation of the wells extracting unprocessed natural «wet» gas; the midstream sector provides transportation (pipelines, railways, barges, oil trucks or regular trucks), storage and wholesale of gas, while networks of natural gas pipelines aggregate gas from natural gas purification stations and deliver it to consumers – local utilities; the downstream sector usually refers to the processing and purification of natural gas, crude oil, as well as the sale and distribution of products derived from natural gas and crude oil. Distribution by sector in gas production allows to classify fixed assets in accordance with the above–mentioned sectors: drilling rigs, offshore drilling platforms, well repair machines, software for geological exploration and geophysical research – upstream; well plumes, inter–industrial gas pipelines, condensate pipelines, oil pipelines, booster compressor stations, equipment for the complex gas preparation – midstream; gas processing and oil refineries, petrol stations – downstream. Much attention is paid to the development of the intellectual potential of the gas production complex, as it ensures both the successful development of production and the formation of effective management of the company.

Purpose This paper aims to assess the ways through which the concept of health, safety and environment (HSE) is perceived by workers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) oil and gas industry. The study focused on different aspects of the HSE culture and how employees with and without leadership responsibilities differed in their conceptualization of HSE culture. Design/methodology/approach Semi-structured interviews were conducted for 30 staff of the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in the UAE. The interviewees were purposively selected which included both those in leadership and non-leadership roles. Findings The findings revealed that the interviewees viewed HSE culture as a descriptive term, a causal phenomenon, a systemic approach or a legal requirement/obligation. Interviewees in the production and maintenance units mentioned safety most often. Employees and managers exhibited negligible differences in their usage of the HSE culture concept. Managers predominantly featured in the narratives as important drivers of HSE culture. Physical conditions, behavior and procedures, management, competence and collaboration emerged as important components of a sound HSE culture. Originality/value To enable better communication and subsequent improvement of the HSE culture, an analogical HSE culture “vehicle” was developed in the study. The vehicle is a novel illustration based on the key roles of managers and employees, as well as the main components of a sound HSE culture.

Biomass integrated gasification-gas turbine (BIG-GT) technology offers the opportunity for efficient and environmentally sound power generation from biomass fuels. Since biomass is “carbon-neutral” it can be used in power generation equipment without contributing to the “greenhouse effect” if it is grown sustainably. The Brazilian BIG-GT initiative is one of a number of initiatives world-wide aimed at demonstrating, and thereby establishing, biomass as an energy resource for power production. The goal of the Brazilian BIG-GT project is to confirm the commercial viability of producing electricity from wood through the use of biomass-fueled integrated gasification combined-cycle (BIG-GT) technology. To fulfil this goal a 32 MWe eucalyptus-fueled demonstration power plant will be built in Brazil on the basis of a design made by TPS Termiska Processer AB (TPS). The first two phases of the project, which included experimental and engineering studies and the basic engineering of the plant, were completed in 1997. The next phase of the project, the construction and commissioning of the plant, is the recipient of a U.S. $35 million grant from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in addition to financing from the World Bank (WB). The plant will be built in Bahia, north-eastern Brazil. The customer of the plant is a consortium, SER—Sistemas de Energia Renova´vel, comprising of CHESF (Companhia Hidro Ele´trica do Sa˜o Francisco), a federally owned electricity generation and distribution company, Electrobras (Centrais Ele´tricas Brasileiras), a holding company comprising of the main Brazilian companies from the electric generation and distribution sector, and Shell Brasil. Start-up of the plant is scheduled for the year 2000. The plant will be based on a TPS designed atmospheric-pressure gasification/gas cleaning process. The product gas will be fired in a modified GE LM 2500 gas turbine. The gasification and gas cleaning process is based on the use of a circulating fluidized bed gasifier, secondary stage catalytic tar cracker and conventional cold filter and wet scrubbing technology. The feedstock to the plant will be mainly eucalyptus wood from a dedicated plantation which is harvested on a three-year cycle. This paper describes the background of the project leading up to the technology selection, the technology that will be employed in the plant and the outline of the economics of this “first-of-a-kind” plant. The progress made in establishing the organization and the formal framework (e.g., securing the electricity and fuel contracts) are also reported. Future projections of likely technological improvements and cost reductions, and their effect on the overall economics of an Nth plant, are presented.

The proper management of the operations is fundamental to the companies' results, and, particularly, the continuous improvement in production processes is extremely important to raise the level of efficiency. The present study aimed to simulate the process of welding of a component called heat exchanger that makes up a gas water heater. Then, this simulation has the objective of optimizing the production process. The data collected were obtained from a company located in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo. The results of the simulation model point to opportunities for improvement, mainly in the direction of reducing work shifts.

The most serious sources of the air pollution are the studied company compressor stations of the transit system equipped with the number of gas turbine. [1] Pipeline parts have smaller degree of importance and gas boiler and emergency resources of thermal and electric energy have minimum influence. These sources emit into atmosphere mainly nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, paraffine with the exception of the methane and unburned rest of the fuel. In comparison with these emissions are emissions of sulfur dioxide and the solid contaminations substances minimal, insignificant. Along with reduction of transit performance deploys the company in recent time significantly more energy effective power units for transit of natural gas. These drive units are mainly gas turbines burning part of transported natural gas. [2] Russian natural gas is used as a fuel which in comparison with the others kinds of fuels contains only little amount of sulfur and contain almost no As, Na and heavy metals. The main parts of combustions are CO2, CO, NOx which are products of burning and N2, O2, untouched atmosphere elements. CO and NOx are considered to be harmful substances.

This article has a simple research question: what determines the risks of oil producing companies listed in Australia and the United States, and are there any differences between their risk attitudes? A literature review is used to develop an integrated theory of company risk that is validated using a hand-collected database covering active oil and gas production companies in Australia and the United States. Risk in both countries proved to be a function of company risk propensity and risk management, which each had a small number of deep-seated drivers spread across company structure, governance and performance. These common risk-related features between companies in geographically remote countries point to the complexity of achieving portfolio diversification.

The purpose of this paper is to improve a new part for the natural gas sector using Quality Function Deployment (QFD) technique. QFD methodology was chosen for the product improvement process at IGDAS (Istanbul natural gas distribution company), the biggest natural gas distribution firm in Turkey. Experts from engineers were selected to determine customer expectations. Application of QFD to pipe strangling equipment is described step by step. The results show that when developing a new product or improving a product both customer expectations and product requirements are evaluated at the same time pleasing both parties for a successful result.

Purpose: In order to achieve excellence, outsourced maintenance contractors in Oil&Gas sector play a key role due to the important impact of their task on security, availability and energy consumption. This paper presents the process followed in order to implement a Supplier Development Program in a refinery using Company Maturity Model (CoMM) and the results obtained in three cases validating the method to obtain a strategic improvement project medium term grid.Design/methodology/approach: The methodology followed consists of constructing a CoMM capturing the knowledge existing in the refinery and applying it with three supplier improvement teams. Findings and conclusions have arised through an observation of the three processes and extracting common conclusions.Findings: The resulting CoMM has been used for self-assessment by three suppliers and has demonstrated its potential to define a medium-term improvement project road map validated by the customer. Furthermore, during the design and application processes, the contribution of CoMMs to the SECI process of knowledge management has been observed.Practical implications: The use of CoMMs in a service contractor context can be applied in other sectors. It contributes to alignment of targets between the supplier and customer companies and to knowledge sharing inside both firms.Originality/value: Maturity models in many transversal fields (CMMI, EFQM, BPMM, PEMM, etc.) have been thoroughly studied in the literature. Less effort has been made analysing the case of using maturity models constructed and implemented by a company for its specific purposes. In this paper, the process followed by a company to establish a Supplier Development Process using CoMMs is described.

Measuring supply chain performance is an important business success factor in today's competitive environment and continuous improvement culture. Several models have been developed for this purpose, however, such models lack standardized language and are not well known in the developing countries. Supply Chain Council (SCC) developed Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model. This paper presents a case-based action-research for a step-by-step implementation of SCOR model. The case company belongs to oil and gas sector in a developing country. As-Is model was developed and analyzed for gaps. Reasons were identified using company documents and semi-structured interviews. To-Be model was then developed along with recommendations keeping into account the challenges faced by companies operating in emerging markets. The step-by-step SCOR implementation was found to be effective. It is further found that adapting the SCOR model for developing countries is a time-intensive effort and adapting the best practices can be a better option.

The purpose of this research focused on integration and alignment of maintenance and logistics functions in a large ERP system in an oil and gas company to demonstrate how cross-functional integration can improve operations. A design science approach has been used based on a case study of a large oil and gas company. The study found that limited cross-functional integration involving the logistics function exists. Proposed process redesign involves activities include improved storage and picking strategies, information exchange, notification of fully received components at the warehouse and an improved shipping strategy. These improvement strategies have been tested through random questionnaires and most respondents support the improvements. This study shows that business process improvement facilitated by cross-functional process integration should realise substantial financial benefits. We have shown that warehouse operation strategies do have an impact on the work order performance through the on-time delivery of its components. In addition, regular communication and utilisation of the available information can also improve the scheduling of work order execution. These benefits are not limited to the company in question but the results show that if companies in general give more attention to cross-functional integration, substantial benefits are possible. The focus of this study is uncommon as it is the integration of logistics and maintenance functions within an organisation. We show substantial process improvements are possible. It therefore provides another opportunity for business process improvement experts to better align various systems and processes.

This article draws on a qualitative case study comparing two U.K. primary health care schemes which were entered into as part of the Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) policy. LIFT takes the form of a social infrastructure Public Private Partnership (PPP) where public procurers and private suppliers work together in active long-term partnering agreements to deliver local primary health care facilities. The organizational structure is that of a joint venture company which is jointly owned by public and private partners, with the expectation that by having both the public and private sector represented on the company board partnership working between the two sectors is enhanced. The two schemes studied delivered contrasting results. One scheme showed how the private sector dominated the board, making partnership working difficult to achieve in the context of directors following their fiduciary role to maximize profits for shareholders. However, the findings from the second scheme showed that partnership working and LIFT success may be dependent on trust, general business ethos, and key personalities working together. Policy makers should therefore pay attention to not only the organizational structures, but also how the private sector controls and governance are exercised to benefit all stakeholders.

PT X is a one of government company who has focus in midstream sector and downstream of gas industry in Indonesia has a role in gas trading, transportation, process and distribution. PT. X managing the gas transmission infrastructure in West and East Java, South and North Sumatra, Aceh and East Kalimantan. PT. X has mission to increase environmental performance through environmental friendly production process and reliable brand image. To accomplish their mission, these companies use ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System and environmental company rating program (PROPER) as tools for environment performance evaluation but for measurement of the environmental performance, but PT X does not have the key of environment performance indicators (KEPI). Then, the result of KEPI identification used to design of the environmental performance system, which using methods for measurement such as Integrated Environment Performance Measurement System (IEPMS), Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Objective matrix (OMAX). Based on this research, there are 70 KEPI consisting of 51 KEPI quantitative and 19 KEPI qualitative. Total value of environment performance in PT. X is 5.86, which is categorized into yellow color which means the company needs intensive controlling and evaluating to increase the company environment performance.

In the world of continuous change and volatility, benefits and results of investments made by companies into research and development (R&D) projects have to be transparent for management of a company in order to make timely and appropriate investment decisions. The paper discusses prospects of post-implementation review of R&D projects, process complications the company faced and its interaction with key related processes of the technology strategy: diffusion among affiliated companies, education and commercialization. Any technology project strives to deliver both technological and economic benefits to a company. While technological success is usually the focus of a project manager, the economical results are overseen by the management of a company and used as a source for action. An overview of best industrial practices is given, later compared to the approach employed by the upstream division of Gazprom Neft company. The latter presents general process and key principles, including process initiation triggers, stages and KPIs used for the monitoring. The importance of technology diffusion is discussed, specifically the impact of technology readiness level on the success of a project is considered as well as necessity to develop “fail fast” culture in the company in order to have higher success ratio. Interconnection between the diffusion of a technology and the amount of intellectual property created by the technology is studied. The need for alignment to the company’s strategies by the project teams is revealed as well as continuous education methods are presented. The conclusion contains results and ways for improvement of the postimplementation review process in the company.

It is noted that the use of foreign experience and achievements in the design of domestic machines is one of the effective tools to accelerate the development of agricultural technologies and equipment. The directions of combine harvester improvement and innovations in their designs are given. It was revealed that the most powerful engines (maximum power of 581 kW) are installed on the combine harvesters “Ideal 10” (Fendt company) and “Lexion 8900 Terra Trac” (Claas company). It is shown that the engine power of the most high-performance combine harvesters reached 581 kW. According to the toxicity of exhaust gases, they meet modern requirements. It is found that the technology of selective catalytic reduction SCR is increasingly used in the designs of combine harvesters. They allow to reduce the emissions of toxic substances into the environment by 2-3 times and reduce fuel costs by 40%, as well as the use of natural gas as fuel. It is revealed that the efficiency of using combine harvesters is increased by improving the engines, threshing devices, separation, cleaning, thresher loading and process control systems, working bodies of headers and cutters.

The changing environment in an organization is forcing the organization to find a plan of integrated management framework and adequate performance measurement. Failure to plan basically means planning failure for the business. Finding the critical factors of quality management practices (QMP), themediating roles of the contextual factors of world-class performance in operations (i.e., world-class company practices or WCC, operational excellence practices or OE, company nonfinancial performance or CNFP), and the company financial performance would enable the company to facilitate the sustainability of TQM implementation model.This empirical study aims to assess how TQM—a holistic management philosophy initially developed by W. Edward Deming, which integrates improvement strategy, management practices, and organizational performance—is specifically implemented in the oil and gas companies operating in Indonesia. Relevant literature on the TQM, the world-class performance in operations (world-class company and operational performance), the company performance (financial and non-financial performances), and the amendments of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia concerning the oil and gas industry, and related research on how the oil and gas industry in Indonesia develops sustainable competitive advantage and sustainable development programs are reviewed in details in our study. The findings from data analysis provide evidence that there is a strong positive relationship between the critical factors of quality management practices and the company financial performance mediated by the three mediating variables, i.e., world-class company practices, operational excellence practices, and company non-financial performance.

A comprehensive wind tunnel test program was conducted to evaluate control of Hot Gas Ingestion (HGI) on a 9.2 percent scale model of the McDonnell Aircraft Company model 279-3C advanced Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing (STOVL) configuration. The test was conducted in the NASA-Lewis Research Center 9 ft by 15 ft Low Speed Wind Tunnel during the summer of 1987. Initial tests defined baseline HGI levels as determined by engine face temperature rise and temperature distortion. Subsequent testing was conducted to evaluate HGI control parametrically using Lift Improvement Devices (LIDs), forward nozzle splay angle, a combination of LIDs and forward nozzle splay angle, and main inlet blocking. The results from this test program demonstrate that HGI can be effectively controlled and that HGI is not a barrier to STOVL aircraft development.

The Company needed to recruit overseas because the skills required were not available in Australia.During 1983 a review of the recruitment and settlement of these personnel and their families was undertaken. The objectives of this review were to:improve the Company performance in the recruitment, induction and settlement of overseas recruits and their families;increase the likely "length of stay" in Australia of overseas recruits and their families;to address specific problems faced by recruits and their families in settlement in Australia.In depth interviews were conducted with twenty-one of the twenty-six recruits and their families using a structured interview format.The analysis of the interviews results revealed that:on average it took longer for those recruited in the United Kingdom to obtain immigration "approvals" and to physically relocate than those recruited in Canada;families with previous experience in relocating adapted and coped better with the physical move and resettlement than families without previous experience.The detailed results showed further that:While there was sufficient information provided about the job and department, there was dissatisfaction with the lack of detailed information about aspects of living in Australia, particularly: taxation; housing; bank mortgage arrangements; cost of living data and medical insurance.There were gaps in the expectations that many- recruits and their families had about living in Australia, such as climate, lifestyle and housing. This was attributed to an "oversell" through glossy brochures and "word pictures".The attention given to staff and their families on arrival was seen as a positive introduction to Australia and CSR's Oil and Gas Division.The provision of initial temporary accommodation in a single apartment complex for all overseas recruits and families in Adelaide assisted greatly in the induction and settlement process. It provided a high level of support especially for wives with young children. The "welcome waggon" group together with the assistance provided by the wives of senior executives were also positive influences in the settlement process.The most positive features seen in the move to Australia were career and lifestyle opportunities. On the other hand loss of disposable income was seen as a significant negative.From the results and analysis a detailed set of recommendations and actions were developed to improve company performance in recruitment and settlement. These recommendations were implementated prior to the 1984 recruiting mission to Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.The preliminary results from the 1984 recruiting mission have resulted in:a reduction in recruiting lead time;quicker and more informed decision making by candidates and their families in accepting job offers;more professional preparation of both the recruiting teams and the company's agents overseas.

Abstract This paper deals with the environmental aspects of combustor modification on Nuovo Pignone gas turbines. The mentioned company is engaged in the transport of natural gas to the Slovak Republic and further to other European markets. Legislation considering emissions is getting stricter every year. Original Nuovo Pignone gas turbines would not be able to meet the required emission limits for NOx and COr determined by legislation. Therefore, the company decided to modify seven gas turbines. Due to this reason, the combustion sections had to be replaced with a dry low emission system. These modifications were aimed at improvement of impacts of temperature on the emissions of NOx, since the NOx emissions are defined as thermal (there is an increase in emissions with the increase in temperature). Emissions were monitored continuously by an emission monitoring system (these data are continuously sent to the Office of Environment) and manually by a HORIBA PG-250 analyser. Gas delivery point is located in the flue pipeline, and data was processed by means of PC after reaching this point. The results lead us to conclusion that modification was an efficient and good solution in terms of economy, because this solution reduced emissions (from 300 mg·m−3 to 50 mg·m−3) and contributed to meeting of the stricter emission limits (from 370 mg·m−3 to 100 mg·m−3). Monitoring of the impacts of growing performance of equipment on emissions represents a possibility for further development of science in this field.

The article presents the analysis of the strategy one of the leading enterprises of
the "United metallurgical company" – the Foundry Rolling Complex using the typologies
proposed by A. Chandler, M. Porter, Miles and Snow, V. Gerchikov. It is established that the
need of the development strategy of the company was initially linked to the need for the owner
and a hired Manager to agree on what areas should be developed to take into account the
interests of both. The article identified: the long-term goal LPK, short term goals, ongoing
courses and allocation of resources.
From the point of view of competitive strategies A. Chandler, it was found that at present
forestry uses "positive" strategy aimed at active consolidation of its position in the market and to
enter new niches. According to the typology of M. Porter the company is gradually moving to
the use of the differentiation strategy – the possibility of competition due to the uniqueness of a
product with broad market coverage. According to the typology of miles and snow's the
company follows a strategy of analysis, while achieving operational excellence and developing
new products. The predominant component of the LPK, determining one of the six basic
missions proposed by V. Gerchikov, is to focus on the area, which somewhat restricts the ability
of the company to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Strategy analysis, performed using several typologies, has led to the conclusion that the
company needs to actively develop new products. Is present on the same market of oil and gas
pipes should look for new niches to supply steel builders, automakers, etc. To the base
component orientation on site, you need to add the orientation to the case or result, without
which successful competition will be impossible. The article also noted that to achieve long-term
goals of forestry should stick to any one strategy.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a case study of a large catering company in the United Arab Emirates, which measured and improved its food safety culture as part of the Culture Excellence Program. It is the sixth article in a theme issue of Worldwide Hospitality and Tourism Themes, discussing the importance of measuring food safety and quality culture. Design/methodology/approach A longitudinal case study was used, including an online anonymous survey taken by a representative number of employees and supporting in-depth semi-structured interviews. Findings The company received a high score in year one of the research, and the reasons for this are discussed. Taking their best practices further with the use of the survey data, they then saw quantitative improvement in year two. This demonstrates elements of best practice in food safety management and how measuring culture within a business can facilitate continual improvement. Originality/value The paper demonstrates how and why a large-scale catering company has measured and improved their food safety culture, with practical examples. It will be of value to food safety and quality practitioners, trainers, auditors and other stakeholders involved in the food industry.

In the early 1920s, British West Indians in Banes, Cuba, built one of the world’s most successful branches of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) in the heart of the world-famous United Fruit Company’s sugar-export enclave in Cuba. This article explores the day-to-day function of the UNIA in Banes in order to investigate closely the relationship between British West Indian migration and Garveysim and, in particular, between Garvey’s movement and powerful employers of mobile West Indian labor. It finds that the movement achieved great success in Banes (and in other company towns) by meeting the very specific needs of its members as black workers laboring in sites of U.S. hegemony. Crucially, the UNIA survived, and even thrived, in a company town by taking a pragmatic approach to its dealings with the company.

Within this problem, automation and implementation of integrated approaches to production optimization, prevention and control of difficulties, effective asset development management both on operative and long-term levels are considered. At present, a complex and effective tool in resolving the problem is an integrated model, i.e. a model of a well production process (oil, gas, water), including all production chain elements in the form of consequential component models. An integrated simulation is effectively used in operational activities of LUKOIL-PERM LLC and is an optimal tool to solve multidisciplinary tasks in field development and technology of oil and gas production, transportation and processing (using software by Petroleum Experts company). Experience of implementing the integrated simulations suggests a synergetic effect related to a need in developing associated aspects manifesting themselves by improvement of skills of the specialists, improvement of input data quality and increase of input data volume, improvement of separate component quality during their integration. A set of actions developed and substantiated using the integrated simulations and their separate components resulted in obtaining some additional oil production over 21.9 thou. t.

This applied research of evaluation using qualitative approach aimed to evaluate the input and process of the corporate social responsibility program in vocational internship conducted by an oil and gas manufacturing company in Indonesia. The results of this revealed some inputs that were the source of program success and processes that determined the quality of the program. Aspects of input generally met the ideal criteria such as competent program staff, participant characteristic reflecting program objectives, flexible and synchronized curriculum, adequate facility, and available procedure. Aspects of the process complied with regulations and procedures as well. Both aspects resulted the achievement of outcome that exceeded expectation such as competence improvement, cost saving, awards and provide information to be replicated by other institutions.

X is one of the chemical industry companies whose main production is urea fertilizer. One of the supporting processes of the production process is the Gas Turbine Generator (GTG) in the utility unit. In supporting the production process, GTG often experiences problems that directly hinder the production process. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Gas Turbine Generators by using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method. The results of the analysis show that the Turbine Gas Generator effectiveness level is 68.39% which indicates that the value of production effectiveness is considered reasonable, but shows there is a large space for improvement.

Productivity measurement has an important role in evaluating and establishing the next strategy in increasing productivity levels. This study aims to determine the level of productivity of a refined sugar company and provide suggestions for improvements to increase the level of productivity. This research uses the Objective Matrix (OMAX) method with five ratio indicators, namely yield achievement, actual production achievement criteria, boiler natural gas consumption criteria, electricity consumption criteria, and employee absenteeism criteria. This study uses company data for 2018 in accordance with company recommendations. The results showed that for one year, the productivity values and performance index differed each month. The performance index with the highest point was in February, which reached 426.3% and in May, which reached 306%. Based on the traffic light system, ratio 1 has six minimum performance periods, ratio 2 has eight minimum performance periods, ratio 3 has four minimum performance periods, ratio 4 has four minimum work periods, and ratio 5 has five minimum work periods. Improvement steps that can be done to improve the actual achievement of production are the provision of regular training to enhance skills and cooperation between operators, improvement of maintenance management systems, development of air circulation, and supplier evaluation. The OMAX method can identify performances that have below standard production, and recommendations for improvement can be prioritized on the ratio that experiences the most substandard performance.

Company management of power plant is difficult to make decision for continuous improvement, requires Performance Measurement Tools (PMT) to determine the performance of a GEG power plant. PMT developed using Key Performance Indicator (KPI) that was defined through Forum Group Discussion (FGD) with different field of expertise in company and based on references and the weighting of KPI criterion that was developed by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). This study was a case study at leading medium energy company in Indonesia. PMT is a tool to calculate Performance Score (PS) from the calculation of actual data, contracts and KPI (Power Output/PO, Heat Rate/HR, Operation Ratio/OR, Capacity Factor/CF) weights. If there is a gap in the PS then it can indicate penalty from customer especially PO and HR. Case study was conducted on three power plants that have different capacity and number of engines. The sum of the PS from the KPI will get a Total Performance Score (TPS). The highest TPS value will get a Performance Benchmark (PB) for each power plant.

We complement recent pedagogical literature on strategic cost management (Blocher 2009) by applying a five-stage information value chain to our case setting. Students must consider both the financial and strategic factors to make a unified decision about whether an industrial gases joint venture should expand operations into Guatemala. Students are asked to perform thorough financial analysis using advanced spreadsheet modeling techniques to support their decision. Equally important, they are required to research the socio-political-economic factors, and to assess the joint venture's competitive and strategic landscape. The primary deliverable is a written recommendation, in the form of a business case, which is submitted to the Vice President of the U.S. joint venture partner. This component addresses concerns raised in recent literature (Matherly and Burney 2009) about the lack of emphasis in current accounting curricula on developing students' writing competencies in a relevant context.

This research proposes an inspection policy aiming to improve the application of C2F6 in semiconductor manufacturing. For the gas product C2F6, total inspection is commonly employed by the producers before it is sent to downstream manufacturers. The study develops a Bayesian rectifying inspection sampling model with the objective of minimizing expected total cost from the producers standpoint. The factors that influence the total cost include gas product quality, inspection cost, sampling information, product failure cost, inspection accuracy, and decision on the remaining units. Influence diagram is used to represent the problem and derive the total objective function. The application of the model is presented via a real world company using the last four years of data. The proposed inspection policy yields an average of 15% cost savings using a cost reduction estimation method based on hyper-geometric distribution.

AbstractTo perform their business operations, telecommunication companies need to consume energy. This paper aims to analyze and compare the energy consumption and their greenhouse gas emissions for there of the biggest telecommunication companies: Vodafone, Orange and Telekom. Although the scientific literature proposed some analysis on the environmental measures that the telecommunication companies have to take, there is a shortage of researchers focused on GRI reporting data and the pairwise comparison method. The authors compared these telecommunication companies’ emissions under the following criteria: energy consumption (GRI 302-1), scope 1 (GRI 305-1), scope 2 (GRI 305-2) and scope 3 (GRI 305-3) greenhouse gas emissions, reduction of emissions (GRI 305-5), using the pairwise comparison method. To reduce their emissions, companies developed a sustainability strategy. This paper will further emphasize what are the plans to reduce emissions for the company which, following the analysis, pollutes the most. To provide an overview of the future of the company which, by the analysis, pollutes the most, the authors have identified and analyzed what are the main actions that the company should take to reduce their impact on the environment. To do so, the authors firstly analyze the causes of the pollution produced by the telecommunication company using Ishikawa diagram. Then, it identifies what are the main organizational processes that can be improved using APQC standardization, to show that the improvement can be made if the organization adjusts their organizational processes. This paper is an enhancement to the studies form the field because it provides a comparative analysis on three of the most competitive telecommunication companies in the world, uses GRI criteria and pairwise comparison method and gives an overview on the next steps for the telecommunication company to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

AbstractThis article analyzes the ways in which Esso Standard Italiana, the Italian affiliate of Standard Oil (New Jersey), and the state-owned firm Azienda Generale Italiana Petroli (Italian General Oil Company, Agip), redefined the job of gas station attendants in post-war Italy. It argues that, drawing on US scientific management and marketing, the two companies advanced a new understanding of masculinity and class. They promoted the idea that gas station attendants should distance themselves from the forms of male working-class identity that were associated with mechanical work and combine technical expertise with the ability to market products by relying on appearance. It shows how during the 1960s Agip exported such Americanized business practices to the developing world, by organizing a series of training courses for gas station attendants from North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. This article looks in turn at how attendants challenged the two companies' efforts to standardize and rationalize their services by joining trade associations and organizing strikes, in the name of their rights as shopkeepers and small businessmen.

With improvement in thermal efficiency, increases in unit size, and the building of record breaking combined-cycle electric power plants fueled by cheap natural gas, nonaviation production zoomed to a euphoric high of $25.8 billion in 2001. The US Department of Energy announced last year the award of $130 million for 10 new projects to integrate hydrogen-burning gas turbines and turbine subsystems into integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) central power stations. Modifying a simple-cycle gas turbine to include heat exchangers can improve its thermal efficiency significantly (as much as 20 percent). Advanced regenerative and intercooled regenerative gas turbines for marine application have recently been the subject of numerous studies, most of which have shown that lower fuel consumption can be achieved by adding heat exchangers to existing simple-cycle gas turbines. Additional improvements in thermal efficiency are available by increasing the efficiency of the turbomachinery itself, particularly that of the gas turbine’s air compressor. Studies by Caterpillar Tractor Company and Solar Turbines Incorporated on a recuperated, variable-geometry gas turbine indicate an additional 8 to 10 percent improvement in thermal efficiency is possible when an improved higher efficiency compressor is included in the gas turbine modification. During these studies a novel compressor, the Axi-Fuge, was devised. This paper discusses the Axi-Fuge concept, its origin, design criteria and approach, and some test results.

The main purpose of this research was to develop a model regarding strategic service management in order to improve the performance of projects related to the oil and gas industry. To this end, this study was conducted in two steps. Firstly, the main practices of SSM were defined by a systematic review and completed by experts’ interviews, and the data onto the expected and perceived about each practice were collected by using a questionnaire answered by the managers and direct experts of the Fars Gas Company, Iran, and its contractors in a five-year period. Finally, the SSM model was determined in a focus group. All participants were selected judgmentally and purposefully based on theoretical saturation. The findings show that the employer expects the contractor to improve the communication skills and the grooming and professional appearance of its staff and that they spend enough time processing the employer requests. As a result, the SSM model was developed based on four strategic cornerstones, including managerial attitude improvement, managing communications, improving business processes, and strengthening internal controls.

While the importance of Corporate Sociable Responsibility (CSR) has been widely acknowledged, research on how to guide a company in evaluating and improving its CSR performance is relatively under-explored. This paper adopts the predominant framework from the United Nations (UN) and proposes a refined CSR model by using a hybrid multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach. The proposed approach is expected to mitigate the potential information asymmetry issue that might deteriorate the CSR performance of a company. To illustrate the hybrid approach, this study analyzes the CSR performance of four publicly listed information technology (IT) manufacturing companies with the participation of senior domain experts, by using the proposed approach. The CSR performance ranking results are consistent by using various experiments, which is similar to the annual CSR contest held by a prominent organization from Taiwan in 2019. In addition, we illustrate how to apply this refined model to gain managerial insights and pursue sustainable CSR improvement with a priority.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyse the difficulties encountered in the implementation of a voice picking system at a large multinational company of the tractor industrial segment, outlining a comparison related to the main critical factors concerning the system implementation at a Brazilian and a USA plant. Design/methodology/approach – The methodology utilised was qualitative and exploratory conducted through case studies in the two plants of the multinational company. The main data were collected through interviews with key managers directly involved in the project of voice picking system implementation. Findings – The results indicate that the picking processes in the two plants were similar, since both were designed for the production line and conducted using bar-code readers and paper lists. Nevertheless, the internal warehousing process in the USA was more mature and computerised, whereas the Brazilian process still had opportunity for improvement, such as, the visual storage process, where the operator was responsible for locating an empty position. Research limitations/implications – Since this research is an exploratory case study, its results cannot be generalised. Practical implications – The paper provides relevant practical information and experiences to managers interested in implementing voice picking systems, as well as interested in improving the accuracy and productivity of logistics processes within warehouses. Originality/value – The voice picking systems are more widespread in the USA than in Brazil, and therefore, companies around the world can use this studied case to better understand about the voice picking systems implementation process in both emerging and mature marketplaces.

The article presents and analyzes data from a case study in customer-initiated software product development. We have observed and participated in system development activities in a commercial software house (company) over a period of two years. The company produces project-planning tools for the oil and gas industry, and relies on interaction with customers for further development of its products. Our main research question is how customers and professional developers engage in mutual development mediated by shared software tools (products and support systems). We have used interviews with developers and customers as our main source of data, and identified the activities (from use to development) where customers have contributed to development. We analyze our findings in terms of co-configuration, meta-design and modding to name and compare the various stages of development (adaptation, generalization, improvement request, specialization, and tailoring).

The ability to develop a work environment climate supporting technological innovation does not occur suddenly or unexpectedly. The objectives of this paper is to assess the technological innovation climate in one of the largest oil and gas company in the world, to compare the results with published standards, and to suggest recommendations to improve the innovation climate in the company. The study used the situational outlook questionnaire to assess nine key dimensions of innovation climate. The results showed that the extent to which each of the nine dimensions is applied were: debate (70%); idea support (67%); challenge/involvement (67%); trust and openness (59%); freedom (57%); idea time (56%); playfulness/humor (52%); risk taking (50%) and conflict (46%). These results were compared with published norms and the results revealed that the company is categorized as innovative in debate, idea time, idea support and trust; categorized as average in challenge and risk taking; and as stagnated in freedom, playfulness and conflict. The comparison using the t-test confirmed the results. Recommendations and details of the actions required for improvement were outlined.

The article deals with the problem of adaptation of the Russian oil and gas company (Novatek, Russia) to the rapidly changing external environment, the avalanche of data from competitors, and the need to filter important information for business development and the prosperity of the industry as a whole. The approach is based on the system of integrated software monitoring of key business processes at the enterprise developed by the authors—from the formation of the idea of a new product to its implementation to paying customers. The scientific novelty lies in the use of an optimization model that allows for minimizing the maximum losses of the investor at all levels of decision-making, from the distribution of capital between companies, to the optimization of internal reserves to increase the competitiveness of the company. The toolkit is a minimax model that allows you to redistribute the shares of investor influence at the portfolio level, and then within the business processes of each company selected by investors, in order to achieve the optimal solution in accordance with the selected estimated indicators. Application of the well-known portfolio investment models of Markowitz, Tobin, Sharp, etc. is not possible due to the lack of necessary data on the basis of which the probabilistic parameters involved in the model are estimated. Even if we get them, it is necessary to take into account the level of correlation influence of the technological process in the composition of each subsystem, which is unacceptable for the data used, as it leads to a strong increase in errors. Using minimax and a systematic approach allows you to minimize such errors by choosing a balanced concentration of distributed assets for both the investor and the buyer. To this end, a three-way analysis of the company’s development was carried out and a technology for comprehensive improvement of the company’s activities was developed in the following areas: the company’s rating in the industry, financial condition, and interaction with counterparties using merchandising technologies. Tools for optimal image zoning at the Novatek site using the minimax approximation criterion have been developed. The technology provides a procedure for creating a comfortable mode of image perception based on high-tech visualization of merchandising, zoning of the screen area, and a mathematical approach that allows you to develop a calculation algorithm.

Therefore, in order to identify good practices that promote the improvement of processes for the implementation of knowledge management in the area of transport hydrocarbon, this exploratory study it perform on ECOPETROL, Colombia's largest oil company. Due to its size, it belongs to 40 largest oil and gas companies in the world´s group and recognize as one of the four major in Latin American. The study target the workshops developed within the Operations and Maintenance teams using the methodology of the Knowledge Assurance Guide. The results show positive impacts identifying best practices that support process improvement in the tactical, strategic and operational levels.

The suggestions system is a part of total quality management to create individual and group spirit of partnership between staff and increase efficiency in the organization. Also, diagnosis and improvement process is one of the steps of the chain in the processes of suggestions system. In this study, an approach has been proposed to evaluate efficiency of organizations in performing suggestions system with these aims: (1) Reviewing all the elements in the successful implementation of the suggestions system and (2) providing an effective scientific approach to evaluate the organizations on implementing this system considering the uncertainty in the data. Methodology used in this study included the following techniques: (1) Factor analyzing to clarify the internal correlation between significant criteria and detect the major criteria and (2) using robust data envelopment analysis (RDEA) model to evaluate efficiency of organizations in performing suggestions system. The method is based on 3 inputs and 17 outputs in which some outputs are uncertain scores in form of intervals with uncertain bounds. This model has been solved for different Γs, and a value of weights and rankings for each Decision Making Unit (DMU) has been saved by using the obtained values. In the following a simulation has been used to compute the conformity of the rankings from the RDEA model with reality. Doing so shows that the maximum conformity occurs Γ = 6. Therefore, we can conclude that specific values of Γ can maximize conformity and thus more authentic final rankings for the DMUs in this interval of Γ may be expected.

The economical and reasonable technical measures, which is through selecting rational parameters and combustion process, could decrease the formation of NOx in fuel combustion phase. According to the national bureau of statistics data released, the national NOx emissions will reach 29.14 million ~ 42.96 million t in 2030,what is more ,China will surpass the United States to be the world's largest NOx emissions country. Environmental pollution has become one of the main factors restricting the development of economy in China [1].
