This weight is the weaning weight and averages between 300-600 pounds. The calf is then typically shipped to a feedlot, where it is fed a high corn ration which increases the weight of animal quickly and cost effectively to reach a sufficient slaughter weight. In 1997, the United States set a national goal to reduce the fatal accident rate for aviation by 80% within ten years based on the recommendations by the Presidential Commission on Aviation Safety and Security. Achieving this goal will require the combined efforts of government, industry, and academia in the areas of technology research and development, implementation, and operations. To respond to the national goal, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has developed a program that will focus resources over a five year period on performing research and developing technologi

Renewed interest in waste-to-energy (WTE) has spurred a number of plans for facility expansions, retrofits and in several cases, new facilities. Complex federal and state regulations governing stationary air pollution sources challenge projects to develop and implement a compliance strategy that meets current and emerging regulatory requirements and which consists of commercially available and technically feasible control technologies, while managing the financial viability of the project. Past experience in the WTE industry is indicative of current challenges, and the deliberate development o

Harmful and toxic algal blooms (HABs) are a well-established and severe threat to human health, economies, and marine and freshwater ecosystems on all coasts of the United States and its inland waters. HABs can comprise microalgae, cyanobacteria, and macroalgae (seaweeds). Their impacts, intensity, and geographic range have increased over past decades due to both human-induced and natural changes. In this report, HABs refers to both marine algal and freshwater cyanobacterial events. This Harmful Algal Research and Response: A National Environmental Science Strategy (HARRNESS) 2024-2034 plan bu

Rural hospital closings in the United States continue to be a major concern for rural development stakeholders. Numerous studies have shown that the primary cause of rural hospital closures is severe financial stress. The Federal Government, through various agencies, administers multiple programs that provide financial support for rural hospitals. The Community Facilities (CF) Program administered by USDA Rural Development is one of the major Federal programs that provides financial assistance to rural hospitals. Denali National Park and Preserve (DENA) in central Alaska is one of the most geologically and paleontologically diverse parks in the national park system. Fossils found at DENA help to untangle the convoluted bedrock history, record a Late Cretaceous ecosystem, and show changes in life here over several hundred million years. We have prepared a paleontological resources management plan (PRMP) to successfully administer these non-renewable resources in accordance with law and policy.
