State governments are now the principal source of immigrant legislation in the US. Existing research presents contradictory findings concerning the sources of pro- and anti-immigration state legislation. However, research has not adequately accounted for the multidimensional nature of immigrant legislation and the fact that many variables hypothesized to affect state legislation encompass both within-state, time-varying effects and time-invariant, cross-sectional effects. Measurement and research design strategies to address these problems are applied to a dataset of state immigrant legislatio

Human trafficking is the modern day form of slavery. Despite the fact that thousands of people are trafficked into the United Sates each year, the majority of U.S. citizens are not aware of the nature and extent of this problem. In 2000, the U.S. government passed the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (VTVPA) to combat this grave human rights abuse. This federal legislation takes a comprehensive approach to addressing the problem of human trafficking in the United States by acknowledging that effective prosecution cannot occur without safeguards and benefits for trafficking vi

In both the United States and Spain, Latino migrants are disproportionately exposed to crime victimization. Among them, those with irregular status are scared to report crime to the police out of the fear of deportation. This theoretical paper reviews the motivational factors of design protection legislation on knockoff manufacturing in the United States. Since at least the early 20th Century, U.S. apparel designers have requested design protection legislation. In fact, more than 90 attempts have been made to gain legal recognition and protection for original apparel designs through the U.S. legislative system since 1914. In France, however, from the time of Charles Frederick Worth, rules existed concerning what qualified as couture design, and over the following years, design protection in Europe evolved to c

The Note further concludes that any action by Congress should incorporate the principles of federalism by resisting the temptatio
